Minster Fish Bar is situated in the town, on a street with limited parking, but just around the corner—less than 100 metres away—is a large pay and display car park, so no problem there. The shop was spotlessly clean and tidy, and the staff were very happy, smiling and polite, helping customers feel welcome, as we did. The large haddock was something very special. Fresh, thick, and cooked to perfection in a light, crispy batter. The mushy peas, although a little liquid, were sweet and delicious. The curry sauce was also a treat—thick, with a nice kick, but not overly spicy. The battered sausage was one of the best I'd had: a nice thin beef dripping batter on a quality, meaty sausage. The potato pattie was delicious, containing nice little potato chunks, and the herbs added a subtle flavour. The cheese on the cheesy chips was lightly matured and not overly salty, and there was plenty of it, and the plump chips. A good serving of beef dripping-cooked scraps finished the meal off perfectly. My dad took me to fish union the other day for some dinner and it was lovely!! To start with, the restaurant itself is gorgeous and also very well laid out. The staff are all extremely polite, friendly and professional. I had ordered the chilli tiger prawns and my dad ordered the burrata with nduja and both were amazing and super flavourful. I had also ordered the salmon and scallops for my main with a portion of ‘our chips’ and they were both extremely nice!! I would definitely recommend this place, 10/10 :)

What a disappointing meal. We were in town from London for the day, and spent a lot of time researching where we should have lunch. We decided to go here and I truly urge you NOT to do the same. I ordered half a lobster and it was boiled to death. It was chewy and flavourless. It hadn't been seasoned either - it was like eating a rubber. My partner got the dressed crab salad which was ok, though the chips were also unseasoned (we had to ask for salt) and the salad seemed to be dressed with Hellman's or similar - for the price we were charged, we would have expected an accompaniment with the lobster, and a dressing that wasn't shop-bought for the salad. We waited quite a while for our order, though the young man serving us was lovely. Only towards the end of our meal were we asked how our food was - at which point my partner mentioned how disappointed I was with the lobster. About 15 minutes later the woman who seemed to be the manager came out to follow up on what we'd said - she was extremely defensive and rude. She kept telling me I should have said something before "eating most of it". Unfortunately, we weren't asked how everything was until very long into our meal, which is really poor etiquette. Additionally, I only ate about half of it, and only out of necessity (we had been walking round all day), but certainly hadn't eaten most. She seemed to be suggesting we were actively trying to scam them out of money - she didn't bother to apologise for our disappointing meal, but instead kept saying "we can't do anything now". The polite thing to do would be to comp the main, or at least the drinks. I have lots of experience working in hospitality and I have never spoken to a customer that way. Again, we didn't even get an apology, we were just met with defensiveness and an accusatory tone. The crab croquettes that we had as a starter were nice, but unfortunately there is nothing else good to say. Total waste of £80 and being spoken to like that completely ruined our trip. I will definitely not be returning.

This is a small local fish shop near Kipling's and The Cracker Barrel. The fish is superb and always well cooked and a very generous size. The standard portion of chips is enough for two people and certainly way too much for me. I always order a small portion. There are all the other things you'd expect on offer, sausage, scampi, peas, curry sauce etc etc.

😅 we literally had to press it to get service. It was a tad different, but you know, it didn't really bother us. We had to wait for about 4 minutes, not too shabby, eh? 🕰️ We found ourselves a cosy little spot and got seated 👥. But guess what? We were asked to shift! 😂 Not sure why, but we didn't mind, just moved to another spot. Now here comes the best part. We ordered a couple of their burgers 🍔 and chips 🍟, an absolute classic. And mate, you won't believe the price - just 4 pounds 50! It's a bloody steal if you ask me. I mean, you probably wouldn't find a better deal anywhere else right now. 😮🙌 But then, we also ordered tea ☕ and that's when things went a bit downhill. They charged us 2 pounds 20 for it! I mean, we're talking about a backstreet café here mate, not a posh uptown joint. It's just ridiculous, you shouldn't have to pay more than 1 pound 50 tops for a cuppa there. 😕 We had to wait a bit for the food, roughly around 15 minutes. But once it arrived, I gotta say it was smashing! The food was absolutely delicious. Truth be told, it was outstanding! 😋👍 We really enjoyed it. But like I said, the only bit that was a bit off was the price of the drink. Anyway, just wanted to share this little adventure with you. We'll chat soon, mate! Cheers,
