Nasty. Everything was soaked in oil and trying too hard to be different. I now know why I haven’t eaten smoked haddock in batter before, because it doesn’t work and never will. The lemon chunks (in the burger) didn’t help either, a very confused kettle of fish.

Arrived just before closing time on the 21st, all of the staff were so lovely, especially the younger girl, didn’t catch her name, who was cleaning up who was so so lovely and friendly even when we came in late. Didn’t get any food due to the time but would be back simply on how lovely the staff and girl were!!

We got moved twice from our table - the second time “physically” by the thugs who massacred as “security”. Won’t ever be back!

Great food but not convinced the chips are value for money

Came to Edinburgh on a 2-day stint to get a taste of the city. Seen this coffee place as one of the recommended and went in eager to taste. Upon entering, it was an unwelcoming atmosphere. In the brief interaction with one of the guys, he was extremely rude and embarrassed my friend in front of other patrons. We were tourists and visiting a number of places to get a sense of Edinburgh in general, incl. all the different recommended bakeries/coffee shops etc. We were not aware of the 'ONLY SPEND IN OUR SHOP, EAT FROM OUR SHOP' policy they had in place, and so took a snack from a local bakery that we seen recommended. Had we known that he was going to inhospitably call it out infront of everyone and make us feel unwelcome, we would never have went in. From a tourist point, its restrictive and detracts from the overall experience of exploring the area's culinary offerings - maybe the guys should keep this in mind for future given that Edinburgh is a city full of tourists? I should also mention that I initially was going to buy a snack from their cafe, as my friend had their own but I had none, however there was only one non-fresh looking croissant left on display? So we were not even aware they even did snacks. We then sat in uncomfortable silence for the duration, quickly drank the coffee, waited to pay (at least 7minutes) a hefty sum for a tiny coffee. Definitely dont recommend for tourists and will not be back

Disclaimer: This review is going to be different! Christmas of 1991, my family spent the holidays in Scotland. On Christmas Eve, everything in Edinburgh was closed. We walked the streets looking for dinner. Topkapi doors were unlocked, so we walked in. The gentleman greeted us and apologized that they were closed. Then told us to wait and have a seat. A little while passed and he started bringing bowls of beef, chicken and lamb. I can’t remember what sides he brought because the meat was exquisite, some of the best I’ve ever had. I can’t recall all of the laughter and sharing with the gentleman, or his name. But, when everyone had their fill and thankful that he took care of us on Christmas Eve, he refused to let us pay for any of it. Recently, while sitting with my mother while my father is in ICU at the hospital, we reminisced about those travels and the memory created by that gentleman at Topkapi in Edinburgh. If their food is still half as incredible now as it was then, you must visit them! I will take my children one day.

Teníamos un plato de compartir y tarta de queso. La comida estaba caliente, bien presentado y delicioso. Todo el personal era amable y servicial. Donde estaba sentado era perfecto para ser cómo se ejecuta el servicio. ¡Qué excelente equipo! Estaban tan organizados y trabajaban constantemente a toda velocidad. El joven de la parrilla... ¡qué trabajador con ese calor! Fue bueno ver al gerente involucrarse también. Todo el mundo parecía como si se estuvieran apoyando mutuamente, encantado de ver. Mi única crítica fue que el baño de señoras no era el mejor, necesitaba una toallita y el cubículo no se cerraba. Quizás verificaciones más regulares en momentos ocupados podrían resolver eso. Gracias, tuvimos una comida encantadora y perfecto comienzo de nuestra noche.

¡Qué concepto tan fabuloso! Fritas en conos pequeños, medianos y ‘enormes’ con salsas increíbles. Solo venden fritas - simple! Un bocado rápido en la carrera y se adaptó a la factura perfectamente!

Worst experience I've ever had getting take-out food. Despite repeating my order for a donner wrap back to me twice, they put in some kind of disgusting slop. I'm still sick that I bit into it and may have swallowed some at my accommodation. When I unwrapped and looked there was nothing even slightly like donner meat. Once bitten, twice shy as they say, I will never trust this place again. They could hide any nastiness in a wrap and sell it to you. I wish someone had warned me! I strongly suggest that readers of this comment go elsewhere for actual food. I can only suppose that the good reviews for this place on this site are in relation to food sold by the previous owners.

If I could leave a 0 out of 5 stars I would , Angus served us and he was the rudest individual towards us Irish girls who just wanted a bottle of Prosecco to start our girlie night out , we spilled a drink and politely asked for blue roll to dry off my table and he said no I then said I please could I have some it’s on my clothes and the blue roll was thrown to me . Absolutely disgusting if we hadn’t of already paid we would have left , so disappointed to see this in 2024 . Disgraceful

Couldn't fault our dinner with friends at Ducks. Friendly service, lovely atmosphere and incredible food. In particular I have to shout out the desert which featured a sea buckthorn sorbet - genius! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.
