Grand Cru in Edinburgh, City of

Very poor service. Ordered a vodka and coke, gin and tonic, Jack Daniels and coke. We got served by a sloppy, lazy barman with the curly hair and moustache with shirt open to his belly button ( didn't get his name) He used the same measure for all 3 drinks without rinsing in between. Each measure was well short too. At the prices they charge I would expect to have proper measures without having my vodka flavoured with gin and JD remnants. We won't be back.

This place is practically deserted compared to some other places around here, and it deserves to be chock full. The food was amazing, the ambience is lovely, and the service was top notch. Give it a go, and you won't regret it. They even had Are You Afraid of the Dark and Tales of the Crypt on the TV for spooky season! They know what's up.

We were served by Sarah and she was amazing. Had the quickest service and a great time. Highly recommend. Raise her wage !!!

Drinks are good, enjoyed them! Found the music a bit eh and it turned into spice boy central later on.

The drinks were so cute and also tasty. Lots of hen do parties and stag parties were here celebrating.

Visiting there for a first time with my cousin. Had a lovely Halloumi Skewers and Churros with cinnamon and chocolate sauce afterwards, it was amazing taste. Beautiful decor and friendly staff.

I was standing outside in smoking area and what I saw from the bouncers was disgusting. Kicking out drunk girls who were clearly under the influence and upset who were getting totally dismissed and shut down. The staff were getting angry and aggressive towards the girl who was upset and crying and left to the street. Anyone who was thinking about going should rethink.

DJ refused to take requests and music was questionable. Cheap tequila shots if interested

We only nipped in for some drinks and with a name like "Grand Cru". We were expecting a level up!. It was the other way to be honest. The wine list is poor. We didn't have any food, so I can't comment. I'm not sure what this place is pretending to be, but for me personally, I'll not rush back.

Great cocktail bar. Good atmosphere, fantastic personnel and a excellent menu! We had lunch with our daughter and also she really liked the place.

Came with my three friends to visit grand cru for a catch up completely sober at the door. Tried to enter and upon us was a very rude, judgmental security guard who was only half way out the door and told us to leave and try somewhere else in which I asked “oh I assume it’s to busy” he just repeatedly said to leave and go somewhere else with no further explanation, very bad standard from a high end reputable city centre bar. Not impressed. Also phoned to complain and was told I would receive a call back 5 minutes later, number has not been returned, very disappointed. Wouldn’t recommend.

I've been coming to gran cru for a number of years but feel it's lost its charm a little bit. Although the re furbished bar area I'd lovely. The toilets really let the place down. We had cocktails one of my friends really enjoyed hers but myself and my other friend had a rasp fizz drink. It didn't taste good at all. First time I've not enjoyed my visit. We will return but would love the finesse to continue to the toilets

Shocking service !!!! Coming from Edinburgh I frequent Grand Cru on numerous occasions and have also given my recommendation to others to visit. My experience what I entailed on Saturday January 19th was appalling ! Shocked and disappointed is not even fitting for what I experienced . I took along some friends and as always I have the Grand CRU Zombie drink - very expensive approx £15 each , to have a young girl eventually bring them over - when I asked why there was not proper Passion Fruit supplied , they were old and withered to then ask why this was not lit , I think the young girl could not understand my Edinburgh mother tongue so I therefore attended the bar to a young f chap standing talking to a further 3 young female staff - when asked he said he was the manager name called Callum ? I explained my situation he advised the zombies do not get lit nowadays Said I had never heard this before , a young female returned to our table removed the OKD zombies that had not been touched and replaced with the old , withered passion fruit but LIT?? No apology , empathy but £40 bill for 2 beers & 2 Zombies ….. never again Will be awaiting feedback from professional Experienced staff on my feedback direct !!!!

Lively atmosphere. Spent an evening here after a Christmas meal out with about 12 work colleagues. We had the upstairs area with the large table all to ourselves. Service was a bit lagging, but it was busy and during the Christmas party season. Music was too loud for polite conversation, but the atmosphere was vibrant. Drinks are the usual Edinburgh prices which can be a bit of a sharp intake of breath when you're not expecting them. Probably a good watering hole to take refuge in for a quick drink as you're on your way to the real party.

First time here for lunch and drinks with friends . Absolutely beautiful place , so clean, staff were friendly and attentive and food was stunning . Not too over priced for the centre location .

My order was served twice wrong and the waitress was rude.

La ragazza che ci ha servito è stata molto carina con noi e il servizio è stato veloce (anche se siamo arrivati molto presto). Il locale è bello e ben curato, il cibo ci è piaciuto ed è variegato. Prezzi onesti. Complessivamente consigliato.

AVOID! Rude, obnoxious, demeaning doorman. Okay so maybe I'm no longer one of the young beautiful people! Tried to enter on a busy Saturday night - with friends from London - for drinks and food. Doorman stood in the way and said way in was through the neighbouring Italian restaurant. I am insulted at this ludicrous, nasty behaviour. Did he find it funny? Does the think he's a clever wee boy? The worst customer experience, ever. You should treat locals well, you need our business when the tourists have gone...

We had an awful experience here when we went to get drinks with friends on our weekend trip to Edinburgh. When we sat down I walked up to the bar to simply ask if we should order there or if they had table service (we had just come from a bar that welcomed us enthusiastically as we entered and told us we could order at the bar or they would come around for table service). The bartenders gave me a funny look and one told me very rudely, "This is a bar, you have to come to us". I should have taken that as a sign to bail, but we went ahead and ordered and were disgusted with the drinks. The cocktails were weak and overly sweet, I have never had an old-fashioned taste so much like straight orange juice. I will also say that there were a lot of people with empty glasses in front of them so the bartenders were definitely doing themselves a disservice by not providing table service. Anyways, I do not recommend Grand Cru, especially when there's so many amazing places nearby! Also, in response to the owner, we were there 23 June around 10:30/11:00pm.

We visited this bar for a drink before dinner. It was quite empty early on a Monday night. It is bar service and we enjoyed two glasses of Prosecco for £10.90.

Was there last week with friends. The service is great as is the atmosphere. Got their Nachos which were fantastic. The let down was the toilets, the smell is disgusting and there was toilet paper all over the place as buckets were overflowing. The toilets are filthy so I doubt I will go back.

There was hair in our food, we didn't get a discount of the bill or nothing. Staff did apologise when they took the food, but other than that they didn't seam to care "as there was nothing wrong with other items we ordered".

Food was excellent and good value. Wait staff were pleasant. Music would be better if the volume was lower.

We had a fabulous time. We met some locals who introduced us to an espresso/alcohol shot, no idea what was in it, but dang it was good!!! I'm not a fan of the gin & tonics I've had at home (california usa), BUT since I was in gin country (lol) I decided to try one... OMG it was amazing, one of the best drinks I've ever had!! It was made with a pink/red grapefruit

Have been here before for a nice lunch. Went here last night for dinner and it was quiet to begin with but got busier and noisier. Service was not very responsive and empty glasses and plates were not cleared away when they should have been. Food and drinks were fine and provided reasonable value for money but it wasn't a memorable experience and we wouldn't rush back.

Thoroughly enjoyed the visit, we all sat by the window enjoying the warmth of the late afternoon sun, all drinks perfect, good service, great ambience, very good background music, what's not to like, and very fair pricing for centre of town.

Nice place, music got a bit too loud on Friday night and we had to shout to make ourselves heard. It's not a night club so no need for deafening music. This would make me reconsider booking again (for after 9pm) which is a shame as I like the bar.

I had organised a work leaving celebration for 10 people at Grand Cru. We did have a great time , reasonable prices , friendly and happy staff. We had drinks and also food which is where it was a bit of a letdown. Only on the nibbles section where you have haggis bons bons, spring rolls etc. Some of us had the nachos and burgers and they looked & were amazing! but the nibbles unfortunately we did not expect every single portion to have been chucked in the deep fryer , it was all very greasy. it wouldn't stop me coming back hence the 4 stars, but I def would steer clear of the tapas selection.

Cocktails were decent. Bit loud inside if you want to have a chat.

Been in a couple of times now visiting daughter at uni. Staff always friendly and willing to help. Food is great, we normally have the burgers. Atmosphere has been perfect for us at the times we go, not quiet or rowdy. And reasonably priced. Highly recommend this establishment. Well done.

Been in before and had great food, drinks and service. Went in tonight and was served by a brunette girl - no smiles, no nothing, poor service overall. Ordered two cocktails, one of them was great but the other one was the worst mojito I've ever had. Tasted like minty soda water and I couldn't drink it. Would have mentioned something to a staff member if anyone cared enough to make eye contact with me when I tried to get their attention. Ended up leaving with my glass still full as the so called mojito was undrinkable. As said, had great experiences here before but tonight was just a massive dissapointment and a waste of money. Maybe just new, inexperienced staff on? Regardless, wasted almost £9 on a glass of flat soda water and won't feel like going back for a while.

Me and my partner came here for a meal and some drinks last night (Monday 15th November) . We had the tapas style foods and cocktails. Was amazing! Especially the haggis bon bons!! Cocktails were really good and the waitress made us feel so welcomed. Definitely would recommend and would definitely would come again!

This is a great little spot and a great little find will definitely be popping in past for a future visit.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon for a quick bite. No one to greet you so we’ve just sat ourselves down after a 5 minute. Our orders were taken in a rush without any conversation which is ok. Out of the 4 meals ordered 2 were sent back and you could tell the waitress was not impressed, the two meals we’ve kept were just passable. Service was horrendous it’s like they’re doing you a favour by serving you. Toilets were filthy and considering we’re still in the middle of a pandemic some sanitising every so often might help. The only good thing about this place is drinks are relatively cheaper than other places around it, but I’d rather pay a bit extra and to feel welcomed. Would definitely not recommend or go back anytime soon

Visited this bar on a busy Sunday afternoon with my partner. Didnt have a booking but they accommodated us outside on their terrace area. We had a few cocktails which were good along with Duck spring rolls, nachos with beef as a light bite. Food was good. Cocktails were great. Service was fast and friendly. Loved it. Would go back here for sure. Keep up the good work!

Amazing staff (Hazel and co especially)! went in on a Thursday night and had a great atmosphere, reasonable priced drinks and so friendly!! would definitely recommend as the waitresses made us feel safe and comfortable.

Liked it enough to go twice in two days. Great food and friendly staff and service.

We stopped in for a burger and a beer. Ordered a couple of the Grand Cru burgers which were really tasty. Not a huge choice of draught beer but still found one I liked. Staff all seemed to be following all the current guidelines.

This was just a brief stop off for a cheeky drink, simply to fill in the time before our meal at another nearby venue. It looked great when we'd passed by earlier in the day and wanted to see for ourselves. As with most places now they have a track and trace process in place. It is straight forward and hassle free to enable you to go on enjoying yourselves. We had a lovely seat in the window on a gorgeous evening. There was a screen between ourselves and other patrons enjoying a drink to ensure safe social distancing. Pleasant service from staff. The seating is comfy, clean and more importantly the drink was excellent. I'd enjoyed a very flavoursome Long Island ice tea. Reasonably priced and offers available on certain drinks. Well worth a visit.

Grand Cru in Hanover Street – a very warm welcome from the security at the door and then the staff inside, drinks arrived within 5 minutes of our order, the staff were fantastic and the place had a friendly atmosphere! Highly recommend!

Well what can I say..... Table booked, arrived shown to seat. We also had family up town and asked if we could have an additional 2 chairs and told that because of distancing, we couldn’t. I get that. Table opposite us became available, not booked...
