I used to frequent Cafe Truva at the shore a number of years ago and was looking forward to visiting their Lady Lawson street branch on a visit to town. What a disappointment! The ‘panini spice’ that I used to love was a delicious mix of spiced chicken, mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes served with a lovely Turkish-salad meze. Unfortunately there must be profit margins to protect here and the quality of product has been compromised beyond all recognition...bland strips of processed chicken, one piece of sun dried tomato all cooked without seemingly much care. The side salad used to be a real treat served with feta cheese, stuffed vine leaves, tzatziki and cous cous, instead you are now served some chopped lettuce, tomato and cucumber with no dressing.....distressing stuff. I hope they are reading and take these comments into consideration, will not return in a hurry which is a crying shame.

This is a touristy place on a busy street – the Royal Mile – and the food was a bit better than adequate given that this is a tourist spot. My wife had the falafel and hummus with eggplant and some salad. The only thing not up to par on her plate was the falafel – the hummus and eggplant were quite good. I had a chicken kebab that was not a kebab – it was three pieces of lightly grilled chicken that was not great but hit the spot. The pita was fresh, the couscous was well prepared. Service was fast and excellent. The meal was reasonably priced. You could do a lot worse in a tourist spot.

After six hours of sightseeing including the Edinburgh Castle, I stopped at this Cafe at a small and quiet street to have a late lunch. The Cafe is pretty spacious, the environment is very relax. Some customers were having coffee and chatting; some were working on their computer. The restaurant did not seem have a lot staff, a gentle man worked behind the counter as well as as a server. I ordered some tea and their Jacket Potato with Tuna & Corn as well as a bowl of their Bean. The food was delicious.

All the offerings sounded really nice. The place did not look very busy but apparently it was. It has an inner room as well as the room we were. As we had not much time to have a lunch we graciously ignored the fact that the server guy barked at us to sit down. We ordered and got a slightly stodgy burek covered in copious amount of cheese. It was ok, but would not repeat this experience.

We originally thought this place was closed for good when we arrived (conveniently around the corner of our hotel), but it was only closed for a few days around the Christmas holidays. We were pleasantly surprised to see it open the other day, so we popped in for breakfast. My husband ordered a Turkish breakfast, my kids ordered a "simple" breakfast --eggs, bacon, toast, and I ordered a Full breakfast. All were delicious and the staff very accommodating. Great value for what you get!

I visited Cafe Truva for breakfast with my friend the morning after a particularly drunken night out. We came to this place from a perspective of pure convenience as it was so close to our hotel. The place was clean and the staff friendly however they weren't particularly attentive and we were left for a long while before they came to take our order. Then the food came before the drinks which wasn't ideal either. The food was good and the staff were happy to make changes to the described meals to suit our preferences which was very helpful. The meal was good value for money. Overall there are much nicer places to eat breakfast in Edinburgh however at this time, this cafe met our needs; I wouldn't rush to return!

The interior of this unique restaurant is atmospheric and provides a range of different places to sit. The menu is varied enough to make it difficult to decide what to choose; surely a good sign and an inducement to return. Their salads are tasty and their wide selection of cakes and sweets is extremely tempting. A good place to go with a small group. Only one issue; they have a machine for grinding ice which makes a hellish noise whenever it is used.

The staff is rude and unhelpful, even know there is no queue. In addition the food is very average and their "truva moussaka" is absolutely awful : bechamel is industrial (or bad) and aubergines are hard to find. Opted for a family breakfast here on the first day of our stay. Interesting little place, very unassuming from the outside but quite bohemian internally with lots of eastern influences and art - the ceiling lanterns are amazing. Its definitely cafe fayre rather than restaurant food, but no worse for it. Decent, basic menu in pleasant surroundings with happy and friendly staff.Service was slow, but the orders were correctly executed and the food good, hot and tasty. My fried eggs were a little overdone, but a relatively minor criticism of a generally good experience. Worth a try if you're looking for something simple and filling.

Affordable drinks and food, very good quality for the price. The staff were polite and helpful and the atmosphere was quiet but warm. We would definitely return and would recommend the cafe to others - there was a large, comfortable-looking seating area adjacent to the counter area. We got to Lady Lawson St by getting half-lost (I see now that there's another, original Truva cafe on the Royal Mile) but it's only a minute from the Edinburgh Castle car park, to give an idea of location. Thanks very much to the staff for a lovely dinner.

One of a number of Café Truva's in Edinburgh.Had good expectations based on experience of other branches but this was poor. Reasonably priced but glum staff and service, no atmosphere, and barely toasted scones infused with the taste and smell of cooking grease, obviously toasted on a greasy grill. Not good. There are literally scores of cafes in Edinburgh where it's easy to get a flat white and a double espresso. This cafe is not one of them.Seriously this was the second worst coffee I have ever had; i think the beans were stale and they were definitely under-roasted. I took the flat white back, minus the mouthful that was all I could face, and when I had politely stated my case, expected some sort of acknowledgement, even if an apology was not forthcoming.Nothing. Just a statement of the price for 2 coffees. Not even a "please". There are several cafes downhill towards the Grassmarket, another round the corner, and some more along Bread Street. Go to any one of these, but do not patronise Cafe Truva. They do not deserve your custom.

My wife and I visited this week and looking through their menu there seemed to be a real mixture of burgers, Scottish breakfast and regular UK cafe fair as well as a few Mediterranean style dishes, so we thought we'd play it safe with something we thought they'd do well and we ordered a Turkish Coffee with Turkish delight, but were left with a bit of a bitter taste in our mouths, literally. We were show to our seats by a pleasant young lady and after a few attempts to get the attention of an unshaven and scruffy looking waiter we had to go to the counter to order ourselves. Our coffees arrived a few minutes later and we really didn't feel we got our moneys worth from what we received. It was about £3.50 each for the coffees which were very small (the amount was enough for two small espressos) but each coffee was vastly different in taste. My coffee was erring on the side of acceptable, there were a few particles of coffee in each mouthful which was to be expected but my wife's so full of powder that it really was undrinkable. We tried to get the attention of a waiter again to explain but again no luck. On the plus side though the one small square of Turkish delight we got with it was tasty. When we went to pay we were going to pass the coffee feedback when asked "how was everything for you?" but instead we were just told how much it was.Once was enough.

Lovely little restaurant in the heart if the city where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch for my Birthday. The food was delicious although I found the portions a little on the small side and there wasn't the usual offering of a complimentary basket of bread you get in most French restaurants. I appreciate that the price of everything has sky rocketed recently so I think this may be why. I had the Roquefort soufflé when was so tasty, although the salad was a little sparse and I finished it in what felt like seconds and had to wait a while for my partner to finish his goats cheese salad. I had the cod with squid stuffed courgette for my main course which was absolutely delicious, although quite a small portion again. My partner had the pheasant which he enjoyed. We didn't opt for dessert but had brandy and coffee which came with a lovely little cake on the side. The staff and who I think must have been the owner were absolutely lovely. Would definitely recommend as the food was delicious, only marking it down as I was still a little hungry after my main course. The bottle of Viognier we ordered was very good and reasonable at £30.
