If I could leave a 0 out of 5 stars I would , Angus served us and he was the rudest individual towards us Irish girls who just wanted a bottle of Prosecco to start our girlie night out , we spilled a drink and politely asked for blue roll to dry off my table and he said no I then said I please could I have some it’s on my clothes and the blue roll was thrown to me . Absolutely disgusting if we hadn’t of already paid we would have left , so disappointed to see this in 2024 . Disgraceful

Despite the fact that I phoned the day before to say a vegan was in the party and they assured me they’d tell the kitchen. When I arrived, all they could offer me was hummus and peppers on bread! They said they were told there was a vegetarian not a vegan coming. The food was tasteless. Also there was noisy construction happening inside the building that we had not been warned about. They did knock 30% off the bill but not good enough and won’t be back.

Lovely meal - food was delicious. Service was excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.

Please do not order baked ciabatta with balsamic vinegar and oil, you will receive a soft white bread roll, no what offered, and poor quality Don't order squid in salt and pepper! served calamari a la Romana calamari rings with thick frozen batter!! Nice drinks and setting for a hotel bar, but absurd to charge £4 for a tiny cup of peanuts and wasabi peas. Pricing could’ve been clearer.

Popped in for some dinner before the theatre, nuce restaurant, food was below average. Only have burgers really and they were below average. Just basic really.

Incredibly disappointing vegetarian pizza considering it was £15, with just onions and tasted like perfume? The other pizza that arrived looked like it was made by a 3 year old and didn’t taste much better. Certainly not what we expected from a Marriott and certainly will not be eating here again. However, service was good and waiters extremely friendly. Huge shame about the food.

Food was OK. But not worth the price Pizza was slightly burnt on the outside bit that wasnt a big deal. Burger had like Air pockets in the middle of the patty and looked like cheap processed meat. Friend didn't eat because of the texture. Rest of food order was fine. And yes... just fine.. Staff friendly but nothing special. Place was dead so wasn't really any atmosphere either. Only had Mains. Also bbq pizza is not a chicken pizza with bbq sauce dribbled on top!!! If we wanted a chicken pizza with bbq dipping sauce we would have asked for this. Bbq pizza is either a bbq base with chicken or tomato base with bbq flavoured chicken.

We had booked to have the Christmas Menu as part of our Work Night Out however the staff refused to serve us Christmas menu insisting we needed to be staying in hotel- no where on meal information or during the booking was this discussed. The bar had the football on creating a really different atmosphere than what the bistro is advertised as. No prosecco on Saturday night, two weeks before Christmas. Will not be back, would not recommend.

Visited the restaurant with some friends. I got the linguini pasta with wild mushrooms. Tasted like nothing unfortunately. The atmosphere wasn't bad but kinda stressed. The waiters were a bit offended when they found out we weren't properly satisfied. In the end the experience was a bit disappointing but not entirely bad.

Really poor service in this bar. Went on Saturday evening and got a table for four no problem. Order Prosecco and waited some time for it to arrive. When it did it was put down on our table and left for us to open! At £37 per bottle the least the staff could do was open it. Nice place, but service would definitely stop me from returning or recommending to others.

We were walking down from the city centre and just decided to drop in (the terrace in front drew us in). Very friendly staff and reasonable prices.

Had multiple meals here. It is convenient if you are staying at Courtyard Marriott. Burger was nothing much. Pizza was very good. Appetizers such as calamari and wings excellent. Tomato soup was gross. It was like drinking strained tomato juice from a can of tomatoes. Service was terrible once, ok the other time.

The best part was the first waiter that sat us and gave us a bit of chat, he was from Dundee and heading back there that evening, compliments to him and apologies we can’t remember his name. The gent who looked like a manager was barely aware of what was going on in a quiet evening - it was just after 5pm. I spent 10 minutes trying to get attention for something as simple as salt for the table and gave up. It’s overpriced for what it is. The food was ok. But by the pricing it should be way better than ok, overall , including service. Apart from the first waiter it lacked horrendously overall. There will be plenty more places nearby that will be all round great so do yourself a favour and look further afield. Finally, they don’t accept cash, which they don’t tell you until it’s time to pay - this is something that should be advised on arrival to avoid embarrassment for some. Won’t be back.

Last evening in Scotland, and we were exhausted! We were looking for something simple, easy, and tasty! The Lantern Room fit the bill, and we were happy with the pizza.

They dont accept cash .this is unfriendly for customers who only have this type of payment .i felt embarressed uncomfortable . Rejected to say the least .just left took my cash where it was welcome .

Poor afternoon tea. No scones, one sandwich cut in half rather than a selection of different sandwiches. Cakes were rock hard. Not worth the money

It’s hotel food, so not sure what I was expecting. But the pizza definitely wasn’t made fresh. Pick somewhere else for sure.

The burgers are fantastic and good portions. The staff we met were really friendly and had a good selection of drinks.

First of all we walked in 20 min late and explained to man at front that we got caught in traffic to which we got a lecture from him even though there was plenty of spare tables. The man with bald head and pierced nose was rude unhelpful and cheeky so we just got up and left and will never be back

We stayed in the hotel and used the restaurant, the menu seems promising but the delivery and temperature of the food was probably unsafe in kitchen practice and the food inedible. My pal dealth with the issue at time with chicken burger order sent her food back and got a refund. Even the chips smelt of old fat that hadn't been changed regularly!! The wine list, bar staff and waiting staff were friendly, professional and hard working during our visit, they also agreed the food was awful, there must be some issues with the kitchen staff that needs addressing, perhaps ???!!!

The worst dining experience ever, a total disgrace to hospitality. Do yourself a favour and avoid, save your time, money and effort and chose somewhere else to dine. Waiting staff rude & obnoxious. Food cold and sent back. Sanitising stations empty and masks worn by staff around their chins. Sarcasm is the response of choice for staff dealing with bad food. We dine out often and always before the theatre - keen to support businesses in the aftermath of the pandemic! It’s so sad to see somewhere that used to be so good, be so terrible!! What a poor representation to hospitality!! AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!

Terrible food. Never ever have i had such a terrible burger, fries and food experience. Burger was overcooked, burnt, no taste at all, found a piece of bone in it. Ordered skin on fries got normal ones, half of them were refried at least a few times. Wouldn’t set my foot in that place again!

Turned up later on in the evening, but still within hours to order food. No warm welcome... we had to go to the main desk. The manager on duty (by the looks of things) told us we couldnt sit outside, sat us down quite rudely and told us to hurry up as the kitchen was closing. Ordered 2 club haigman with ice and 2 calamari. Whisky came without ice and only received 1 calmari... for £5 there was 4 tiny pieces of squid served in a small bowl with some leaves. Nice squid to be fair, but not a good deal. The indoor venue was strange, almost like hanging around at a wedding reception. In their credit, there seems to be some pleasant staff working there as well, who were attentive to us.

Disappointed with tonight, booked weeks ago and they couldn't find our reservation and I was quite embarrassed as it was a belated birthday surprise for a friend. Eventually we got our table, we ordered a bottle of prosecco and went to order a second bottle only to be told they had run out! This review is for the breakfast and it is during covid-era so maybe this isn’t their norm. But the food was just ok. Breakfast booked with the hotel. It’s half a buffet with little bits and bobs like croissants, toast, cappuccino machine, etc... and the plate was brought to us after we ordered from a list of typical full English breakfast items (the only things you can order) Nothing is wrong with it, except the potato scones which are kind of stale tasting and soaked through with oil. As I cut them, oil kind of oozes out. But the croissants are good, the sausage is yummy. And the service, though limited, was courteous and helpful.

A really good value lunchtime Prix Fixe menu and the food was delicious

Very disappointed with our afternoon tea! We arrived at our booked time 2pm and were shown to a table at the back of the restaurant area, the front area was unoccupied. Almost as soon as we sat down there was a large clattering, the area for dirty pots was next to our table. When I asked if it was going to be noisy all afternoon I was told no, there is nobody but you in. There were very few people in the restaurant but there seemed to be Lots of staff but nobody in charge. At no point were we asked if everything was satisfactory. Tea pots of hot water were brought along with tea infusers, we asked for lemon which duly arrived as wedges rather than slices...difficult to drink Earl Grey tea with a wedge of lemon in your cup. The tea cooled very quickly and we eventually asked for some hot water which was brought in a tea pot. 10 mins later what appeared to be afternoon tea for two appeared, two lots of everything, we were three. We asked for our third serving which eventually arrived after about 15 mins but initially were told the original serving was for three. The sandwiches were not as described, we had two cold, toasted cheese and ham sandwiches and cold salmon and cucumber...no cheese and tomato, no smoked salmon and no ham and Dijon. The cakes were as described with two additional egg cups filled with what we were told was rice pudding and another unknown contents (the member of staff I asked (Twice) did not know). The scones were stale, the cream and jam insufficient but there were about ten small pats of butter. When we were offered more tea we were duly served a teapot of hot water and a teabag. All in all a very disappointing afternoon, we were not looked after and the food served was not as described in the menu and stale and of poor quality. No member of staff cleared used cups and teapots until the very end when there were ten teapots on the table. All in all a totally unsatisfactory experience, made worse as this was meant to be a treat for an elderly relative whom we see once a year.

Not great... staying at the hotel and wanted a quick(ish) meal!!! Waited 20mins for wine and every table around me has had to complain about something. it's cold sitting next to the door as there isn't an internal door stopping the cold from coming in. The 'grill special' isn't available anymore but still on the menu! Do not waste your time and money here!! I won't be returning, even if I stay at the hotel again!

Don’t bother going here. We went for dinner before going to the theatre and we were very lucky we only had one course! 1hr and 15 mins to get a main meal is ridiculous. Every table complained while we were there (not a great sign!) - wrong orders, cold food, slow service etc. The staff were very polite and friendly but unfortunately it just wasn’t enough. Plenty of other restaurants in the area to choose from.

Came here for a pre paid show meal. They sat us directly opposite the door in front of a massive draft. Straight away we had to move the table or the only option was to put our coats on. It took them 20 minutes to bring out pre ordered starter to the table in which time no one had been to ask for our drinks order. I went to the bar three times to order drinks for the table before we got our correctly ordered drinks. The starter was fine, the main course was a different story. Cold Christmas dinner is never acceptable. Humans created a microwave for a reason. Every part of the dinner was cold apart from the gravy which I can only assume was added to warm the meal up. Some of the sausages were wrapped in bacon, some were not. The pudding was also barely warm. When we asked to speak to the manager, he sent one of the waitresses over with a business card and the excuse of he was too busy to see us but please phone the person on the card when we got home. We said that was unacceptable and asked again to speak to the manager. About 10 minutes later, I went upto the bar to speak to him. He ignored me for as long as possible, even asking if I was ok and before I could answer him he started serving another customer. I informed the poor waitress from earlier that we were leaving which prompted the manager to speak to me. He made the excuse that he was busy and had been unable to come to our table. I told him my complaint and informed him that if he had had the decency to come to our table none of what I had said would have been as public as it was and that it was completely unacceptable that he sent one of his employees to do his dirty work. This is not the service or quality I would expect from a Marriott hotel restaurant. We have been here before and both service and quality were fantastic. I would not be recommending this restaurant to anybody.

First time here, clean fresh decor. Friendly staff albeit only 2 on a Thursday night. Very close to the playhouses so ideal for pre and post show drinks.

Ordered two Camembert cheese starters which was nice fish and chips and a rump steak cheese starters arrived then informed no fish so ordered rump steak waiter didn’t ask how we wanted the steaks so told him medium when the steaks arrived they where rare mine was half grizzle and couldn’t chew it I told waiter he said he’d replace it and do a new one in the mean time My partner had finished her meal and mine just arrived half way through the meal the waiter asked if we wanted a sweet as kitchen is closing ordered a cheese platter no butter was served with the biscuits which was very dry

Delicious moules frites!! Was very impressed by the food and such quick service. Highly recommend coming here! Will return soon.

Dropped by for an evening meal as staying in Edinburgh. Ordered the camenbert which was not great. Followed by two medium steak and chips which arrived rare with no vegetables. There was no salt and pepper on our table and we were not offered any sauces. We had to send a steak back as it was full of griztle and bloody. By the time the replacement arrived I had eaten mine and waiting. Ordered the cheese board that came without butter and the small pieces of cheese were ends and covered in wax.waiters were most unhelpful, didn't even ask if we wanted a drink during our meal. Ruined a perfectly nice evening and wished we'd gone to the Wetherspoons next door instead. But just assumed it would be a quality experience. Never again

We visited using a voucher in busy fringe fuelled August and what a deal! Only three were able to attend and as we had a voucher for four the helpful staff suggested we have an extra starter and dessert to use up the difference. Really friendly service, large portions - not fine dining but a great meal. We sat outside and although busy the traffic wasn’t overwhelming. Would definitely go back.

The Lantern is a restaurant located in a Marriott Courtyard so our expectations were low. We were pleasantly surprised. This place was busy on a Saturday night. The room is nothing special. Essentially a rather blandly designed extension of the lobby. The service was efficient if not a bit amateurish. But as for the food, our meal was well prepared and very well priced for a hotel restaurant. I can see why hotel guests and perhaps attendees of the next-door theater would pop in for a bite. The Lantern does a good job.

Me and my boyfriend arrived here at half 11 for some food before our bus to Aberdeen at 1.20. We decided to wait in till 12 for the lunch menu as didn't fancy anything on the breakfast menu. (should of been more than enough time to get food and catch the bus). We put our orders in at bang on 12pm. It got to 12.45 and still no sign of our food so I went and asked the waitress what was going on. She came back to us and said our food had gone to the wrong table... (there was maybe 4 other people in the restaurant? About 2 getting food, possibly?). Starter eventually came out just less than an hour after we ordered it! And then the main came out about 10 minutes later which seems like it had just been reheated in a microwave. I told the waitress we would miss our bus because of this and so she gave us 4 drinks for free... One being a coffee which I never drank as the milk tasted off (I had previously asked them to make me a new one but the new one still tasted off). Anyways, the waitress was really nice and attentive after this but also should of been like that from the start anyway... Not to mention it was a guy that took our orders and brought me my coffee but after this we never seen him at all? Strange. The food was alright but definitely not worth the wait. We are now 50 pounds worse off as had to book another bus and also hang about in the rain for 2 hours. Will not be coming back here unfortunately because the place itself is very nice.

I ate here tonight with my sister before going to the Playhouse - disappointing that the pre-theatre finished at 5. But menu looked good. Went for the sharing platter plus wine for £20 and ordered a main each. Sharing platter was HUGE!! Picture looked small... was tasty though! Mains took over an hour to arrive and were average. Pork chops with no apple sauce - gave the feedback and was told that everyone says that - maybe listen??

Let me start by saying I'm a Marriott loyalist. This has to be one of the worst dinning experiences I've ever had at a Marriott propriety. I flew in from LA extremely tired so I decided to eat at the hotel restaurant. The service was horribly slow and the restaurant wasn't that busy. I ordered the chowder to start and a ribeye as the main. The chowder was bland, no seafood at all, salt and pepper helped. As for the steak... I ordered the $24 ribeye medium. Their first attempt came out and it honestly looked like someone's leftovers. I was afraid if I ate it I would get sick. I sent it back and to my surprise a decent steak appeared in about a 1/3 of the time of the first order. This place is good for a drink but do not eat here. Hotel isn’t that great either. Stay next door at the Glasshouse. Won't be back. Service and food are below average.

We were lured in to this hotel restaurant by the offer of a sharing board and bottle of wine for £20. E chose the fish board - a delicious combo of smoked and poached salmon, whitebait, crab cakes, calamari, muscles and prawns with 2 dips, rocket and bread. Excellent value with a pleasant bottle of Spanish Sauvignon blanc. Added a sticky toffee pudding and a crime brûlée - total bill £31.00. What’s not to like?

Staff are both professional and friendly 👍main course was ok, coq a van would be better skinless and boneless but hey tasty all the same, cheesecake and creme brulee good 👌

I was so excited to get to Edinburgh, and was looking forward to a nice meal after a long day of driving. We are gold star members of the Marriott family and I have to say I've never had an experience as bad as this. We try to be very polite while traveling abroad but the restaurant staff was extremely rude, dismissive, and kept us waiting for over two hours for a simple dinner. This wouldn't be much of an issue but we have two children who were also travel weary. The food and drinks were both overpriced for the amount and quality we received. I'm so sad that this was my first meal in Edinburgh. I suppose it was memorable. We won't be dining here again.

The service was terrible. The waiter would disappear for long periods of time, and was slightly rude when he would finally present himself. The food and cocktails were overpriced, and the food was mediocre at best. We asked for a dessert menu (hoping to end the evening on a good note) and waited 15 minutes before my wife and kids finally gave up and went back to the room. I waited another 10 minutes to get the check, which was incorrect at first. Needless to say there was no gratuity left due to the poor service. We were very disappointed in the Lantern Room, and definitely won’t be eating there again during our stay at the Courtyard in Edinburgh. Unfortunately I would have to say it was the worst dining experience we had during our 12 days in the UK.

13 of us met up here for dinner, some from abroad. I can't fault the service but the food was extremely poor value for money, particularly the sea bass which was a wafer thin half of a very small fillet. Lacks any kind of atmosphere.

Arrived here for pre-theatre meal. The restaurant is downstairs with no views. It is obvious that it is the breakfast area too. Staff were good although it took a bit of time for our drinks to arrive. The food was not up to the standard that you would expect for the prices charged. My chocolate fondant was obviously microwaved. Chips not fresh but frozen. All in all a pretty average meal. There are better and cheaper restaurants in the area I would recommend you try them!!

Ordered drinks at bar and because it was a nice day sat outside waited 15mins outside and decided to go back in as it was getting quite cold to then be asked by the waitress what we would like to order to then be told the barman behind the bar had forgot about our order it was only to vodka and sodas he had to make not hard also looked like he couldn’t be bothered and didn’t want to be there would not recommend although decor was nice but nothing special

So went here last night, decorated lovely, spacious, nice place to hang out, choice of everything from coffee to cocktails. First of all can I say whether your having tea or coffee surely the sugar would accompany the service along with a tea spoon to stir with?? Not once but twice the tea spoon was missed, not being picky but it's a basic requirement. Then, the music, I have to say it wasn't generic to say the least and considering the clientele that happened to be in I would consider changi g the loud music dance kind of stuff to something nicer, other than that I would go back, nice place, didn't eat but may do so in the future not sure what the menu was like to be honest.

We had such an amazing time here, our hosts were very warm and welcoming. The food was delicious. We had a mixed groups of pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan and there was an option for everyone!

£14.40 for two bottles of Brew Dog and a very small bottle of Pepsi - ridiculous. How can this be right?

Lovely quiet restful atmosphere - Highly recommend the braised Ox cheeks from the special offer running at the moment - a bottle of wine to share & 2 courses for 2 people from their specials board for only £35 - in total. Great value for money - service was impeccable - all waiters and the waitress we spoke to were knowledgeable and very friendly. Definitely going back for more.

The atmosphere was great, relaxing but chique. We had mussles and seabass which were both delicious, with great presentation! The staff was very friendly and helpful! 10/10 would recommend

An amazing dinner spot, not far from the old town of Edinburgh. Food is sumptuous and the service was professional but friendly. I'm definitely recommending to anyone visiting Edinburgh to have a meal here at least once during their stay.

Reserved a table on Thursday night before a show at the playhouse and arrived punctually. Nobody near the door to greet us which we found odd and were unsure whether to wait or go to the bar, we waited 5 minutes and nobody came so we asked at the bar. We were asked to choose a table in either the private dining room or near the door and we chose the pdr. Lovely building, very comfortable atmosphere, nice clean polished glasses and cutlery. Unfortunately the front of house do not seem trained and are unsure what to do. The waiter who showed us to our table took our drinks order, we received our drinks and then we placed our food order and asked what the mussel sauce is for the moules frites (we also weren't told what the soup of the day was) he left to find out, 5 minutes later another waiter came to take our order, we explained we're trying to find out what the mussel sauce is, The second waiter checked and came back to say it was white wine and cream so we figured mariniere which is great. Then a third waiter came to ask what the problem with the sauce is... we explained to the third waiter that there is no problem we just asked a simple question. We got our smoked salmon and crab chowder shortly after and I would not fault this, perfectly seasoned and nice consistency. After clearing our starters the mains came out sharp, both enjoyed the moules frites and the venison bourguignon, the mash was very comforting and the venison was braised nicely.

Relaxing place to unwind after a day of shopping or theatre. Limited menu, but very tasty offerings. Staff are knowledgeable. Nice dinner !

After our meal out we dropped in here for a bottle of wine. Very reasonable prices for a hotel bar. In an excellent location for both a hotel and bar. Very comfortable seats and excellent service. Would recommend.

When we arrived we were told that their fryer was broken, so no chips, and the sea bass was sold out. My husband was looking forward to his steak and chips but happily settled for buttered potatoes. I went for the haddock (sea bass replacement). My husband ordered his steak done medium and it arrived flattened to a quarter of an inch and more than well done.

Decent bar in the Courtyard by Marriott...Friendly staff and the cocktails are great too...had a rum based one...Piranha!! or something like that lol
