Deep Concerns Over Rude Staff Behaviour and lack of Chips Quality at Frites I am writing this review after numerous disappointing awful demeaning experiences at Frites located at Leith, with the sincere hope that the owner will finally take notice and address these pressing issues. During multiple visits, we have encountered a troubling pattern of behaviour from a specific employee at Frites. This rude individual consistently mixes old and new chips before frying, resulting in oil-soaked, dried-out, and inedible chips. Upon politely requesting that this practice be stopped to maintain the quality of our meal, the employee responded with hostility and disrespect. He dismissed our valid concern by telling us to "pick up our pizza and go," and even went as far as mocking us with funny faces and rude demeaning remarks. He refused to serve my wife and I. This blatant disregard for customer satisfaction and basic decency was appalling, leading us, as regular customers, to stop coming. Despite bringing this matter to the attention of management at another branch and providing video evidence of the employee's unacceptable behaviour, there has been no visible change in either his conduct or the cooking practices. This continued employment of the same staff member reflects a concerning lack of accountability and responsiveness to customer feedback. To the owner: the recurring rude inedible chips incidents involving this employee raise serious doubts about the standards upheld at Frites. Such disrespectful treatment of customers and disregard for chips quality are deeply troubling and do not align with the values we expect from any food establishment. This is not an isolated incident but a persistent pattern of behaviour that significantly impacts the overall food experience. Urgent action is needed to address these issues, including comprehensive staff training and a genuine commitment to prioritising customer satisfaction and food quality. We sincerely hope to see meaningful changes that demonstrate a dedication to both service and cuisine at Frites. Sincerely, [A Disheartened Customer]

Just visited frites today in Edinburgh and not impressed. I ordered the Italian garden frites unfortunately the sauce on it was stone cold seemed like it was straight from the fridge so it was really unpleasant to eat and it made the frites go cold really quickly. Awful I had to put most of it in the bin total waste of money such a shame.

Stopped in here on a Thursday evening so not busy, we were helped immediately and food came up shortly after. I got a small Italian garden and my husband got a small peri peri chicken. They were amazing! Such a huge portion for a small and less than £10. We’ve had some expensive meals in Edinburgh and with this one we actually felt like we got our moneys worth. Would love to come back here and try another flavor! 10/10

i was served the frites straightaway unsure how long they had been lying on the shelf as they were luke warm and full of little fried bits .There is no comparison to the real Belgian Frites which I have bought many times in Amsterdam The mayonnaise is also very runny, unlike good mayonnaise which is thick. Don’t recommend .

A great place and delicious chips and milkshake were really well made. Location is a dump as the entire road is closed due to tramline being constructed and many nearby shops closed down. Would be great if there were tables and chairs to sit.

My wife got a small with pesto mayo yesterday. She enjoyed it. Good value for money. Chips were crispy and soft in the middle. Sauce was nice. There was a puddle of mayo at the bottom. Thankfully, it didn’t ruin the chips and they remained fairly crispy. We did have to wait longer than expected for the chips because there was only 1 member of staff on. She was nice enough. Good location for chips to go. Shame about Leith walk looking very run down at the moment with the tram works going on.

Made a special journey by bike. Waited for the customers in front, then told they shut earlier than advertised because ‘they switch the fryers off 10 mins before closing time’. The staff must just want away early as there was a massive pile of cooked fries behind them and we got there at quarter to 11pm! Won’t go back.

I work just across the road from Frites, so it was only a matter of time before I gave their chips a try. They're consistently tasty, and they give decent portions. It's 70p for additional sauce, and there's plenty to choose from. Definitely give them a try!

As far as a portion of chips go these were great. After the easing of Covid restrictions I was pretty easily sold on anything and as soon as i saw chips been peeled and flogged out of a window and branded as Belgian frites it released some kind of primeval instinct in me that demanded these pieces of fried potato in a cone. Pretty reasonably priced, well presented and tasty.

Really really poor & nothing at all quality frites like we had last year … I chose frites with 3 cheese but the Parmesan was just thrown over the top , they had no Gorgonzola so I opted for Parmesan & also cheddar but it was soo bad & soo unappetising I actually couldn’t eat it AND the frites were undercooked so I went back in & complained & they immediately understood & offered me another portion. As I was completely off any cheese toppings I requested just frites but they were still undercooked … the other chose chicken tikka masala but not good & he never returned them … poor show soo disappointed & highly likely we won’t be back either !

Having enjoyed the original in Belgium, the expectations were accordingly quite high here. Frites markets itself as a Belgian frites specialist, whereby you can put together the composition of its frites with toppings and sauces as you like. But there are also ready-made compositions like "Italian Garden," which I ordered. This is fries with parmesan cheese, sauces and green peas. This was accompanied by an Oreo shake. The small portion of fries was definitely opulent and very reasonably priced. The Oreo shake was really good and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the sauces are not homemade, but justified in relation to the price. A contactless payment was possible without any problems.
