Pub next to the railway station. Friendly and helpful staff. Good choice of beers. But the menu is really disappointing. A Korean / Asian just doesn't work for a traditional looking pub selling real ales. We didn't buy lunch and we heard other people saying they were just getting a drink and then going elsewhere. The pub must be losing money by trying to do something 'different'. I didn't come to Yorkshire for a Bao bun. Just stick with good pub food please.

The Black Horse is a beautiful old traditional English pub. You can pop in just for a drink or lunch and dinner. My wife and myself went for lunch. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. I had eyes bigger than my belly and went for the traditional burger, my wife ordered the chicken skewers. Presentation, flavour, and value for money 10/10. Plus the staff fantastic especially Jackie our waitress. Will definitely make this a go to !!!

I booked afternoon tea here as a valentines gift for my wife. To be clear and fair here; I’m not a fan of afternoon tea at all - I think it’s a very expensive meal for what you usually get. But my wife loves it and I wanted to treat her as part of our long weekend in Yorkshire. This hotel is lovely from what we saw, it’s beautifully decorated, it’s very clean, and the staff are friendly, but our meal was very disappointing. We were the only people in the entire dining area which seemed a little odd, but at least we had privacy. Our choices of actual tea were made (English breakfast for me and gingerbread chai for my wife) and these were delicious. But, and it’s a very big But; the food was very disappointing. Salmon sandwiches and chicken sandwiches both a bit underwhelming but palatable, but a tiny croissant filled with a minuscule amount of ham and cheese and a pot of very cold ratatouille with 2 cubes of feta cheese on the top which was revolting and just weird! Then the desserts - some quite nice pastries but the highlight of any afternoon tea should be the scones and they were quite frankly terrible. The fruit scones were both absolutely rock hard on one side so slicing them was a joke because you just couldn’t get your knife past half way through! Definitely not fresh scones (possibly frozen and reheated?) Nobody asked us if we were enjoying our food and it wasn’t until I paid that I was able to point out our disappointment. I was told it would be passed back to the kitchen…. Would we go again? Definitely not for afternoon tea that’s for sure.

Shocking… service slow.. my meal sat on the pass for 10 mins… ordered fish and chips and asked for ketchup.. home made which was fine however we didn’t get asked if we had any allergies.. the ketchup had peanut in it… shocking mistake and training for all needs to be had. Husband had beef sandwich which was ok and the slaw he said was perfect. Ordering system is chaotic … trying to be something it’s not.

Hmm. The setting could potentially be quite promising, with a sea view and a castle framing it on one side. But the ambience was ruined by the sound of over-pumped muzak and the pervading smell of other-people's fish, and nevertheless one was expected to pay a rather high price for the dubious pleasure. If pricy cod disco ain't your thing, this might not be the ideal choice.

Meatballs, fries and garden peas looked lovely, all freshly cooked, unfortunately by the time we got through the checkout the food was only lukewarm warm, they really need to speed up this process, because for the price and the quality it is a really nice experience such a pity it falls apart at the checkout.

The floor in the restaurant is absolutely disgusting! It certainly hasn’t been regularly mopped/cleaned. It is quite literally jet black in patches on the much hidden wooden floor and it is sticky underfoot. If this is the level of cleanliness in the public area what is it like in the kitchen!! Cleanliness should be top priority in any restaurant. Management need to get it sorted. We certainly won’t be returning.

We booked here for post work Friday evening dinner and drinks. The atmosphere is great with good music. The food is delicious. The service however is incompetent. They have absolutely no idea what they're doing. Food arrived 1 hour 45 minutes into our two hour reservation. 5 minutes later the server came over to take payment. At the 2 hour point he started picking up our plates and pointing at the guests who booked the table after us. Such a massive shame. The only upside to the incompetence was that after we left we realised they forgotten to put 2 bottles of wine on the bill. From reading the previous reviews the really have an issue with the floor staff here which is a shame when the design and food are really good.
