Diner in the bistro as part of ‘Restaurant Week’. Great service and a popular selection of dishes on the menu. It’s been sone time since we last visited and wow, what a transformation. Lovely decor and lounge to relax in. Planning a return visit for the Sunday lunch as recommended by our friends.

Something seems to have gone wrong. We have greatly enjoyed staying here before and dropping in for occasional lunches. We liked the good food and wine, and the exceptionally good service. The premises looked immaculate and smelt fresh. Back today, looking forward to a pleasant impromptu late lunch at about 1:30pm. People were eating but there were plenty of spare tables. We waited to be seated in the restaurant … and waited… and waited. After a while my wife reported to the hotel receptionists that there were similarities to the Marie Celeste. They said that someone would come. A few minutes later a barmaid arrived at the bar. We explained that we had been hoping for a lunch table but that there were no restaurant staff. She went to find them. But several minutes later she still had not returned. So we left. By that stage we had realised that things had changed at the Hotel du Vin. It no longer looks immaculate. We let the receptionists know that we had intended to have lunch, but had decided to leave. They didn’t seem bothered. This place used to have excellent management. It needs to get it back again.

We had pre booked 4 weeks in advance for a birthday dinner in the Bistro and asked for a candle on a slice of cake and provided the name of the person. On arrival, we asked the bartender for the cocktail menu only to receive a couple of photocopies with some pages printed upside down. Cocktails were unremarkable and Negronis poorly made. I also checked in to the bistro, reminding them of the birthday occasion, previous candle request etc. The restaurant was quiet, so it should have been easy to provide good service Good creative menu and decent wine list When we ordered a bottle of champagne, the waiter, who had been previously told of the occasion, made no reference to it at all. Service throughout was “basic”. At desert, NO recognition of the occasion. When challenged, the response was “we didn’t have a candle”, even though the request was 4 weeks old You can certainly do better in Harrogate as, with drinks it’s at least £60-70 per person

Ok, but I would expect more for the price, hence the 2*. Food nice, but lacking the extra touch, especially on service - when we arrived basically ignored for 15 minutes and then asked quite abruptly what food we wanted to order ( no offer of drinks etc). Asked for G and TS which were very slow in arriving and then came 2 minutes before the starter. Not asked if we wanted any wine, and didn't bother asking myself as thought it would probably arrive with dessert! Blood from steak on the table left when clearing up, had to wipe it down myself. Bins overflowing in toilets. Building and food were lovely but overall experience felt cold and transactional. Possibly they are suffering from lack of staff due to furlough, but expected better from hotel du vin, think they are just relying on their name.

I had been given a voucher for the Hotel du Vin chain and decided to use it as a dinner treat with my daughters. The Harrogate branch had tables free. The staff were fantastic, our waitress was incredibly friendly and advised us when she thought that the sides were too big so perhaps we could share. There was no cocktail menu but she said 'tell me what you like and I'll get the barman to make it up for you' so we had specially designed cocktails. They were in no rush and kept assuring us we had the table for the night so we could just stay and chat if we liked.

Surprised that on this occasion the room wasn’t the best. Always stay here and will continue to do so however I’m leaving this review so it can be improved upon. We stayed in one of the basement rooms, nice but hadn’t been cleaned, hairpin on the floor, hairs in the bath and on the toilet. Couldn’t put the bath soap in the bath as it doesn’t reach. Overall dirty feel to the room if I’m honest and had a strange odour to the room and toilet. Fridge was warm so I declined tea in the morning as the milk inside fridge was warm. Apart from it not being clean and warm fridge, it was a lovely room. Not sure if the hole in the toilet skirting board is for a mouse but it needs repairing. Carpet does look like it needs a good wash. Coffee machine would be good like the other rooms.

Another lovely stay in Harrogate especially over these difficult times made all the better by the fantastic staff at Hotel du Vin. Tristan couldn’t of been more helpful when we booked in and Maxime was the perfect bar manager. We booked to stay at the Hotel du Vin following recommendations. Sadly when we entered the room there was a very strong and unpleasant smell of disinfectant. Upon walking into the bathroom it was dirty and had clearly not been cleaned properly. The smell of disinfectant was dealt with by the reception manager arranging for the room to be sprayed with air freshener. When we retired to bed after a very pleasant dinner we found that one of the beside lamps did not work and the television set kept cutting out. Given the price we paid for the room the quality fell a long way short. The room was shabby, and is in need of complete redecoration to bring it to the standard required. Having said that the staff were all good and the food both for dinner and breakfast was excellent.

We stayed for one night, choosing this hotel in Harrogate after having to cancel New York due to the current climate and Coronavirus. You can imagine the sombre mood. It was a special Birthday celebration too. Whilst the room was a nice one, the window view faced a brick wall; no view. This made the room dark with very limited daylight. This was supposed to be a superior room which we paid extra for, so we would’ve expected a better view. The decor was dated, dirty nets and chipped wood and paintwork. However on the upside we throughly enjoyed our evening meal in the Bistro. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Steve made our experience thoroughly enjoyable and entertained us with his wit and great, positive attitude; just what we needed. A great asset to the hotel and he made our stay memorable, in a good way!! We’d return just to meet Steve again!!

Next time I went to the bar, again no one was serving, so I went into the dining room to ask for service. The ladies toilets needed cleaning and refurbishing. It all looked very sad and maybe a smile from reception wouldn’t go amiss!

We have stayed at Hotel du Vin in Harrogate a number of times over the years and have always seen it as a real treat. This time the service was fine and the food was great but parts of the hotel are starting to look very tired and grubby - something we haven’t experienced previously. In addition, we put a ‘do not disturb’ on our door only to have the cleaning staff park their trolley right outside our room so we could hear every word of the conversation that was carried out at high volume inches away- hardly conducive to a relaxing lie-in! Hotel du Vin is an expensive option so we were rather disappointed with our experience on this occasion.

Absolutely excellent breakfast with a lot of choices to cater for all tastes. Guests ranging from 6 years to mid sixties were happily dining. A few hiccups with 'who ordered what and poached instead of scrambled' but that's to be expected on a table of almost fifteen people. We came here for Afternoon Tea in late December. Service was really disappointing. The waitress seemed clueless (we knew the prices of the menu better than she did) and she was not very friendly, slow on top of that. There was a second, younger, female, like a restaurant manager, she was really slow, paid zero attention what was going on and generally came across as very unfriendly. We came here a few weeks earlier just for drinks and that same manager, always dressed in black pretty much, was the same slow and paid zero attention. This place used to be fantastic service-wise. The Afternoon Tea was disappointing. The tea pots looked old and could do with cleaning/updating. No separate water came with the tea.The cheese on the sandwiches was old and tasteless, some of the bread was stale. The cakes weren't that great either. It took really long to receive the bill. Overall very disappointing, compared to what it used to be.

January is really tricky to have a birthday! Everyone is all parted out but a night at Du vin certainly made a difference. Harrogate was busy when we arrived, gorgeous sunny weather but very cold. You walk through a great big green door and you feel like you are entering a large country house. It was warm, cosy and very calm. We found our room along a narrow corridor and were tempted to enjoy the warm cosy room but we had plans to meet friends before dinner. Dinner was superb , very sophisticated dining room and the service was great. Great nights sleep in an enormous bed then a tasty breakfast before we headed home. Thank hotel du vin . Stayed here twice before & it was ok. This time was a different story. First impressions always count , and the young lady in reception ( long dark hair) was so rude ! I asked for a parking space and it was like she was doing me a favour. Anyway, parking space obtained, we checked in. The lift & corridor on the 2nd floor we’re falling to bits , the cleaning cupboard was fully visible and was not a good look ! The room was nice and the bed comfy, but the net curtain was hanging off , there was mould on the sash window , the ceiling lights , 1 bedside light and the light in the bathroom over the mirror didn’t work. I could go on. Anyway, we complained, the room should have cost £230.00 and it certainly wasn’t worth that. We did get a discount, but the lady next to me checking out was also complaining. Seems like there’s a theme going on here. Sorry but we’ll try somewhere else next time.

Last week, the final week of September, we had occasion to visit one of the places we'd been to before, several times, but we (a party of three ... all previous diners there) were disappointed on this occasion ... to say the least. Set up as a fairly upmarket operation, the Hotel du Vin is part of a select nationwide chain aiming for the discerning client. Well, they need to pull their socks up. We approached the barman there who told us to sit outside and we would be served. A young lady with a platted pony tail was alerted (by one of us) to our needs after a fairly long wait and seemed very offhand in her manner when she served our drinks ... and was positively snooty when we requested an extra tonic mixer and (politely asked-for) perhaps, crisps or some nuts. She did bring both eventually ... but gave us a very frosty if wordless reception thereupon. Strange ... how, on being treated as though we were unwelcome by hopefully the one bad apple from the barrel, one begins to look for other things less like the usual service before enjoyed there ... but we noted that our tonic bottle was half empty, as though it had been opened carelessly or in a temper, perhaps, the first and had overflowed a good bit more than a smidge. And looking around us in the outside seating area, that very warm day, there were discarded fag-ends and litter that needed tidying up a bit ... and watching the staff, watching us, of course ... this was not happening. Lack of supervision, we agreed ... paid our bill, drank up, and left for better things, without complaint. Thought it all worth a mention, though, but we vote with our feet.

We bought a gift voucher for the Sunday lunch and fizz and were delighted! More food than even the most gluttonous of people could manage; impeccable service; a very multifarious wine list to suit all tastes and, above all, excellent quality food throughout. The ‘market table’ starter buffet is a fabulous idea and was fresh and varied. There is a choice of main courses for those who don’t want a traditional Sunday roast. But we had the chicken and the beef and were highly impressed, especially by the huge Yorkshires and the individual additional gravy boats without having to ask. A small touch, but very much appreciated. We even ended up with a free extra pudding when the waitress made a slight mix-up on one of our pudding order (which was really not a big issue at all). We will return!!

The surroundings and Hotel bar are of a very high standard. We have eaten in the restaurant twice in the evenings and twice for breakfast. The first occasion we found the food and service to be poor. The second occasion was Sunday 5th May 2019 and the food and service was much improved, breakfast the following morning though was very busy and all the excellent touches of individual bottles of fruit juice were replaced by large jugs, fresh fruit cocktails were also slow to be replaced. When we checked out our bill had been wrongly calculated and bar items were included that we had not had, also our breakfast included in the room rate was added again, this was quite quickly rectified when we raised it. We really do think that Hotel du Vin is worth staying with but our overall opinion still remains as 'almost but not quite'. I'm sure that one day everything will be just so, we will visit again to see if that can and has been achieved. The rooms and facilities (superior doubles, first floor front facing) are sumptuous and on our stays spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable! Alan & Kate

Had the set menu a very nice setting if a little quiet on a Sunday evening. Doing the set menu was a good choice. Sicilian wine was out of stock but replaced with an adequate Puglian red, a little more in price but ok , I don't think they realised it was different. All in all quite good value as a set menu, only niggle is the included service charge which I would rather have the option of paying (which I would of as service was good), but overall pretty decent.

As a malt whisky fan, I popped in here as it has links to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and I fancied an unusual Malt to set off my week.

We were really pleased with the varied menu which includes some great French classics, we had booked on a bed and dinner basis, our waitress clearly explained we could either choose from a fixed price menu or from the a la carte with an allowance from our room rate being applied to our bill, we opted for a la carte and had the steak tartare and escargot to start with the whole roast guinea fowl for main, then apple charlotte and creme brûlée for dessert, there is also a good selection of wines fairly priced. Service was attentive and food arrived in a timely fashion, the guinea fowl was superb and none of the food disappointed.

The only thing that decided the rating was the limited choice on the menu.

I Just wanted to to let you know how disappointed and embarrassed about a family meal I had yesterday Sunday 4th November. I'd been to your restaurant a number of time's over the last few years on the Sunday menu and raved to people how lovely it was. On this occasion I felt truly let down and had to apologise to my guest's. To begin with there was hardly any table's in which in the past it was always so busy. The French market was so disappointing with no crab , anchovies bread's, pates , artichokes and which I said it would have. Also myself and guest's mentioned the prawns and fish standing out in a warm restaurant without any ice or refrigeration which I'm quite aware of food and temperature's so I think leaving fish out for 4 hours is very dangours. When our main course the Yorkshire puddings were stone cold in the middle and the gravey was watery and tasteless let alone only luke warm. The kale and carrot's were raw and inedible. The roasts were also cold like they had just been left out and re heated. I'm really not one for complaining and didn't want to cause embassy embarrassment to my guest's as I really wanted to speak with a manager. I really think it's gone downhill since last year and a empty restaurant half say's something. After telling my work colleagues they must go it's going to be quite the opposite. I really need someone to take this on board as at £24.95 per head your going to struggle.

I came here for a training course with 15 other members of my work. The room we used was great. Regular food and drink top ups. The staff were really friendly and the toilets were really clean. Would definitely recommend hotel du vin for business meetings and/or training sessions as there is no disturbance and the rooms are lovely.

Our experience of the “fabulous Friday” at the hotel du vin was nothing short of excellent. The hotel lobby and bar have recently been upgraded and now offers an elegant reception area and a comfortable seating area ideal for pre dinner drinks. Situated very close to the centre of Harrogate, the hotel offers parking directly outside the front of the building and the perfect spot to begin exploring this pretty town.

We were a party of 8 and we had a very late reservation so we had the place virtually to ourselves. The waiters were Uber-efficient and the food was to die for. The wine menu was also extensive and delicious. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed an excellent brunch today for a group of 10 with an age range of 21 months to 84 years. Fabulous service and tasty food. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. Sorry Betty’s and The Ivy, but you lost out. Your ‘No Booking’ rule and your ‘not so keen on children policy’ forced us to look elsewhere..... and boy are we pleased we did .

The setting was quite nice, with a feel of mainly being in an empty restaurant. The savouries were lovely but the cakes and scones were average and really nothing special. No home made candy floss as advertised which was a disappointment.

To be fair we only stopped off for drinks on the way to a restaurant and went through the empty bar to the pleasant courtyard behind. Some of our party wanted cocktails but initially couldn't find any 'menus'. This really isn't good - they should be freely available on tables or the bar.

Stayed here overnight - booked a superior room which was at the front of the hotel. The room was a fairly good size with ensuite bathroom complete with roll top bath and sizeable walk-in shower. Nothing particularly special but comfortable enough. Note: when the hotel is ready for a refurb, please look at the lighting in room! Its terrible for putting on make up in both daylight and evening plus you need to be 6ft 5 to use the shaving mirror (which I'm not)! Breakfast was included, we just had a continental breakfast which was fine even though cooked breakfasts were included in our room rate. Hotel parking is available directly to the front of the hotel although spaces are limited and the overnight charge is £10. The location is 10/10 and situated right in the middle of Harrogate so is ideal for shopping, restaurants and walks on The Stray. Definitely recommend for the location - apparently the hotel is due a refurb and would agree it is looking rather 'tired'.

This hotel has a decent restaurant and an ok (but not very lively) bar. The rooms are nice, but not air conditioned which was unfortunate given it was 33c outside! The rooms are all named after vineyards, which is a lovey idea, but does make it hard to find your room!

We wanted a really nice place for the weekend. There was nothing terribly wrong with Hotel du Vin. But it is dingy and battered - many years of wear. The staff were helpful, the breakfast was alright but at the very high price we should have been much more satisfied. The room was dingy and no-one had attended to details - for example there was a switch for the bedside light but you had to get out off bed to reach it; that sort of thing.

The wife and I stayed in Harrogate for 2 nights special birthday treat, we didn’t stay at the hotel but we visited for lunch on both days. The first day we arrived mid afternoon we ordered a couple of drinks and decided to sit outside in the little courtyard as the weather was glorious. It took a little while to catch the attention of a waiter who did proceed to take our order, we ordered a bottle of the house rose which was quite nice, the food was of a reasonably high standard well cooked and presented the price was also very reasonable. We had enjoyed the lunch so decided to return the next day, we’ll talk about chalk and cheese. When we arrived there was one table occupied in the courtyard with 5 young ladies looking through menus, we sat at a table and waited 5 to 10 minutes before any member of staff appeared, I had to go over and ask if we could have a bottle of the house rose ( Pinot Grigio) she asked how many glasses I required, 2 please and took my seat. We noticed the ladies at the other table were looking around for service and eventually after 1 of them went inside a waitress arrived and appeared to take an order. After being in the bistro for 20 minutes and still without our drinks I went to find someone a waitress had just entered the courtyard, I advised her we hadn’t received our wine, she returned 5 minutes later to inform us the wine we ordered had just arrived and wasn’t chilled enough, would we like to try another instead, I asked if they were short staffed today, no she said. The table of ladies appeared to leave the bistro without a drink or food they must of give up. We reluctantly agreed on the wine and she took our food order, another 10 minutes passed no food no drink no waitress so we decided enough was enough and left. Come on hotel du Vin, how can you be so inconsistent, on Thursday everything was good the following day it was shocking, you certainly spoilt my wife’s birthday that’s for sure. We regularly visit our local Hotel du Vin in Newcastle and have had several meals at the one in York all really nice and enjoyable so get your act together please Harrogate

My wife and I booked a one night stay for £74 which we thought was excellent value. Frankie, the lady on reception was a delight, friendly, really helpful and passed on some great recommendations for our stay. Our room was really interesting, luxuriously appointed and very comfortable. We did not eat or drink in the hotel but can recommend Betty’s tea shop for breakfast and Orchid restaurant for dinner. The Turkish baths were worth a visit too.
