A truly fabulous evening with amazing food and paired with wonderful non alcoholic drinks prepared by the team from food in the kitchen garden. A real highlight. Adam and his team desire all the accolades they receive. Can’t wait to return.

An amazing evening at Fifty Two. The food is beyond delicious. Then there is the kitchen garden (the 52 raised beds - an experience in itself walking round with a 52 gin and tonic in hand in the sun), the delightful staff, the "shipping containers" which house the restaurant which are so incredibly stylish, the magical friendly atmosphere etc etc - go while you can before it becomes too popular to get a table! This was our second visit, to be repeated again soon.

Having had delicious food twice before at Horto, my friend and I had no hesitation requesting this time on our spa break. What a mistake and very disappointing that this was a birthday treat. The menu was explained but my pescatarian friend was immediately disappointed that the only fish main course of monkfish was unavailable. So we did our best with an odd menu. We both had the crab balls which were odd, soft and underwhelming. Her broccoli tempura was massive, all stuck together with greasy batter and dressed with an oily topping, it was truly awful. My pork belly was ok but far too much peanut butter on the plate which was off putting and sickly. My friend’s flatbread was completely over covered with pesto and soft cheese, must have been a tub full, green soggy and unpleasant .The trifle was lovely but couldn’t finish due to . When they took away the starter when asked we say the broccoli tempura wasn’t good but weren’t asked anything when they took away our hardly touched next course. We love our food, love cooking and eating out and not at all fussy, but this was dreadful. We mentioned at checkout and they took off the service charge but appalled that was all. We had a £98 allowance and hardly ate a thing. This experience would put me off coming back to my favourite spa as an overnight guest. What’s happened and what a shame.

By far the best dining experience I’ve had for many a year - granted I’m a fan of Maccy D’s. The staff set a smiley, attentive tone from the outset and the interior was refreshing and spotlessly clean with a relaxed atmosphere. The food was the star of the show, however, and maybe even outshone our amazing morning at the spa. Recommend the tasty Pork Belly, delicious monk fish skewers and the meringue dessert. Well done team and to those attending in the near future - enjoy!

Food was disappointing considering the positive reviews. We both ordered the chicken schnitzel for lunch which rather than individual crispy pieces, was basically a sliced up piece of breaded chicken. The flavour was okay but we both found the salsa Verde on top revolting. Honestly it tasted like grass, not the pleasant, herby flavour we were expecting. Other elements were okay but not amazing. We ordered fries with truffle mayo, which was totally overpowering. Puddings were so so. The service was excellent apart from the waitress spoke so quietly she was difficult to understand. All in all it was really not worth what we paid for it.

We’ve stayed at Rudding Park many times on the dinner bed & breakfast option & have always had an excellent experience at Horto ever since eating here when it was situated up at the golf club. We were informed that Horto is no longer fine dining (hopefully only a seasonal thing?!) but the food was frankly poor and a huge step down from our previous visits. Even looking through recent photos on Trip makes you realise how much the food has dropped off. Service - as always - was impeccable in Horto and throughout the hotel but we genuinely wouldn’t stay at Rudding again if the only option was the DB&B. Such a shame as RP has always been a special place to visit…

We’re staying at Rudding Park as residents and had lunch here on arrival before using the spa. It was a lovely and relaxing atmosphere inside and we were greeted by Agnes who was really friendly and professional in greeting us, seating us, taking our coats and explaining the menu. The lunch food was also delicious, the croquettes and flatbread were our favourites from the small plates. Seasonal ingredients and making use of preserving them is lovely to see.

The food is just fabulous! We had the tasting menu, which is six courses plus an amuse bouche, palate cleanser and petit fours. And I won't bore anyone by describing it all, just say that it was all very well thought out and executed. The only down side is the wine list is quite limited, which was a little disappointing but didn't limit our enjoyment. Service was nicely relaxed and while being quietly confident. Loved it!

We visited Rudding hotel over the bank holiday weekend. We enjoyed a spa day and the visit was of a very high standard but the stand out was our meal at Horto. We enjoy a tasting menu including wine pairing and have visited many Michelin Star establishments. We asked if pairing was available but unfortunately not. However Callum offered to provide us with some suggestions. We left our drinks choices in his hands and didn’t regret it for one minute. He explained each glass and why it worked well with the course. The pairing stood up to most Michelin restaurant we have visited. Callum was personable, friendly and professional. He is a real asset. The restaurant wasn’t as busy as we expected it to be but had a great atmosphere and service was timely and always with a smile. The food exceeded expectations and I hope the restaurant and chef get the recognition they deserve. We can’t wait to visit again.

Went for an overnight stay with my best friend. Dined at Horto. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel more than welcome. We indulged in the 6 course tasting menu that turned out to be 10 courses and WOW! Trout totally boneless and so much flavour, beef that melted in your mouth, lobster tried as an extra to gain feedback as a new addition to the menu OMG! Crab doughnuts never tasted anything like it. Lemon palette cleanser and 2 amazing desserts. If you are looking for something special and have money to spend, totally worth every penny, then give Horto a try. And to top it all off two of the chefs found time to come out and say hello and introduce themselves, such a nice touch! Thankyou Adam and team

Visited for both lunch and dinner during the same visit. Lunch menu is very overpriced for what it is. They have a captive market so feel they can charge what they want but £20 for a bowl of Tom Yum soup, a Salmon salad, or a Lentil Dahl is far too much. Similarly, £14 for a simple cocktail and £12 for a piece of cake seem over the top. The food itself was ok, but I've eaten much better and at a better price at both Rockcliffe Hall and Seaham Hall spas. Evening menu is much better though not as good as when I last visited in Feb 2020. We both had the tasting menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. The price has gone up over 50% since Feb 2020 and is now above some Michelin starred restaurants I've eaten in (Hrishi in the Lake District for instance). For some reason they've also stopped the wine pairing. Overall I'd give the evening menu 4* and the lunch menu 2*.

Booked Horto with a spa and supper evening and we was not dissappointed. The menu was great for vegans and the food was absolutely delicious! The staff were so attentive and made sure we always had what we needed. I appreciate this is a fine dining restaurant but the portion sizes were ridiculously small! We ordered lamb saddle which consisted of one tiny portion that was no bigger than the nail bed of my big thumb and some tiny accompaniments. On reflection I wonder if they have made some kind of mistake but not sure. I have been to other fine dining restaurants before the portion sizes were small but not to the extreme of the ridiculously small sizes as this restaurant. We were provided with bread for the appetiser and a garlic pastry alongside it. Following a small pudding we were given some petit fours, a box of sweets. I think they try and fill you with the cheaper food and cut back on the meat which is obviously more expensive. It is overly priced for the quantity of meat. I will not visit this restaurant again. I was allocated to this restaurant as part of a spa overnight package with no consultation as to what it entailed. I think the Clocktower was full so we were placed here.

All the little extras are as beautiful & tasty as the rest of the meal. The staff were warm & welcoming and very knowledgable. Each dish was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The menu descriptions seriously undersell what is on offer. I had the pescatarian menu & my favourite dishes were the chalk stream trout and the taste of the garden - a heavenly tart full of lemony delight. I also had a gorgeous little beetroot canapé which was tiny & tasted lovely. My husband loved the cauliflower tart which was a work of art as well as being delicious. I cannot rate Horto higher than the five stars given but I would gladly give it ten stars. We had the pleasure of eating there on their first night of opening since COVID restrictions were lifted. From the professional welcome received from the Restuarant Manager Rory to being the last table to leave we were overwhelmed with the level of service from the whole team and the standard of the food. The menu description does not do the food justice. Their angle is to avoid the norm of Starters, Mains and Puddings and go for a selection of small plates seasonally lead with fresh ingredients from their own kitchen garden. It's suggested that you chose 4 plates per person but as there was a total of 9 on the menu we decided to go for one of each to share per couple. Each dish seemed to surpass the last one, the flavours and textures were fantastic. The Chawanmushi (smoked eel, peas and wasabi) I would have never chosen in a million years but turned out to be the best thing I have ever tasted in my life! Thank you to Rory and the team for making our experience so memorable. We will be back!!

My partner and I went to The hotel and spa plus a meal at Horto. We opted for the 6 course tasting menu. I can’t fault the staff, they were polite and attentive, we were given a combination of complimentary starters that were also a pleasant surprise. The food overall was of a good standard. Nothing I could fault. The halibut in particular we both felt was delicious. However having been to several other fine dining restaurants all over the country and abroad, the time taken between dishes was exceptionally long. We sat down at 19:30 and finished at 22:45. Never before have we been to a restaurant with a taster menu where service was so slow. Not that we didn’t have anything to talk about, however we are used to a dining experience being a fluid and continued one almost without pauses. This was for both of us a major negative point on the day.

For the last few years this has been the best restaurant in Harrogate by some distance, and we have eaten here a few times a year in this location and it’s golf club location. It has always been fine dining at London prices and West End standard. Sadly last night will be our last time as it simply isn’t at that standard anymore. The service used to be Michelin star attentive with lots of highly trained high quality staff. There are now fewer staff and they seem very focussed on there own non-customer facing tasks. It doesn’t feel like the diner is the centre any more.We rang as we always have in the past, to give dietary requirements which allegedly they noted but obviously didn’t. The many amuse bouches were odd and a low point of the meal. Despite our dietary requirements the first was oysters which by anyone’s standards are very “Marmite” in people’s reactions and so an odd choice. We refused the oyster and eventually they asked if we liked cucumber. The cucumber arrived covered in caviar and seaweed which we scraped off. Again weird thing to have on an amuse bouche and it really didn’t work as a dish. Then another amuse bouche which tasted like really strong chicken fat with more caviar thrown in. All poorly conceived and we would rather have had nothing. The breads were really good, however the butter choice was honey (sickly) and chicken fat (fatty). What is wrong with good quality local butter? We had the a la carte menu rather than the tasting menu. Having the a la carte choice as well is a relatively new thing at Horto and definitely an improvement. Both starters were delicious, the consommé and the scallops. Great presentation and quality. The main course were also delicious and a great standard of food. Halibut and Chicken were both excellent. We then had a cheese course that was ok in quality, and had the rhubarb dessert. I love rhubarb but it was so undercooked it was hard to cut, and it was so sharp as to be pretty unpleasant. We left most of it and it ruined a good dessert wine as there was no sweetness in the dessert. The wine list is quite limited which is disappointing for such a restaurant. The Albariño wine we had was great quality but the list is limited and safe. The bill is now also less but we won’t be back as it isn’t special any more.

Horton restaurant is the flagship dining area for Rudding Park , situated in the excellent spa it doubles as the cafe during the day. It was busy when we arrived at 20:30 and was seated in a seating area near the bar, drinks were ordered whilst we perused the menu. I opted for Scallop with roasted cauliflower, truffle and curry. After quite a wait during which an amuse bouche was served , this was oysters served with English caviar, I have an aversion to caviar as the fish has to be killed to harvest the eggs, I asked the question about this to the waiter who couldn’t answer my question but someone else came and incorrectly told me the eggs are massaged from the fish. After some research I found this to be totally wrong, Exmoor caviar do indeed kill the fish to harvest the eggs. Either the waiting staff have been incorrectly trained or he made it up. I contacted Exmoor caviar who ignored my question but on there website in the Press Box Jay Rayner who visited the farm says exactly that. The starter arrived followed by a description from the waiting staff. The Scallop was just cooked but the cauliflower was cooked in places and raw in others it was dusted with curry powder which to my palette rendered the slice of truffle tasteless. My wife’s Pumpkin Veloute was delicious apparently but very rich and my wife couldn’t finish it all. My mains of lamb with allium and Mayan gold potato was awful, the lamb was “carpaccio “ which is ok but this meat had big tendons running through it, I left it and nobody asked me why. I decided to have the cheeseboard as a dessert, again disappointing the 2 local cheeses were tasteless it was only the Stichelton which saved the day .My wife had the hake which was good. So to sum up I was annoyed about the information about the caviar a big deal was made about it with other diners glancing over there was no need to lie to me. The meal was very second rate , as a restaurant with awards I would have thought that I would have been asked about my main course. We have eaten in Michelin star restaurants and this wasn’t good fine dining

I was staying at Rudding Park on a "Great Yorkshire Break" with my partner. This gives a £42 allowance per person for dinner at either Clocktower or Horto as part of the package. We've eaten at Clocktower several times before, so chose dinner at Horto.

Spa was amzing, treatments amazing, the package afternoon tea was terrible. Tiny sandwichs so skinny we could not tell what was in them, the cakes were tastless and old. the scones were lovely. The gluten free version was a joke, chopped up apple and pear for dessert and sorbet! the gluten free bread is the type you saw 5 years ago - thin and dry - get with it Rudding and either make your own or buy the great GF artisan bread now available. complete disappointment and left most of it which considering the big price tag is very annoying and not a 'AA rosette' establishment at all.

We went with Travel Zoo last Saturday to Horto and had a tasting menu. The chef demonstrated how he made each course and what inspired him. The whole evening was very enjoyable and the food delicious. I will be watching for a Michelin star for this very young talented chef! The service was also fantastic.

Me and my wife came for a 1 night spa break with dinner in Horto and cannot rate this hotel highly enough, we really were blown away. The porter came out to the car park to collect our bags and introduced us to Darren on the front desk, who gave us the warmest welcome with his infectious smile. We were explained all the details of the stay then shown to our bedroom in the Follifoot wing. It really is worth paying a little extra for these beautiful contemporary bedrooms with roll top baths and huge comfortable beds. The Spa is just out of this world, even better than the pictures, I didn’t see myself as someone who can loaf around in a dressing gown all day but I did a good job, with so many different things to do. Then came dinner in Horto ... we are still raving about this to all our friends, we had the tasting menu with wine pairing and were looked after by Kirstie who talked us through each course and wine with so much passion, you can see she is someone who really loves what she does. The food is just out of this world even the chef bringing some courses to the table. The chocolate egg had to be the most memorable. Words can’t explain you have to go yourself. You are given the choice of two breakfast options and can choose at leisure, we decided to go back to Horto in our dressing gowns and had the most delicious pancakes. On check out we were even given a bottle of water each for our journey home. Well done Rudding Park we cant wait to return.

Visited here with my husband a couple of weeks ago as part of a spa break. Booked last minute and was given the option of 9pm in Clocktower or 8.30pm in Horto. Decided on Horto so we weren’t eating too late.

At first we were very apprehensive as the Horto doubles as a cafe by day. The staff reassured us during the day so with trepidation we kept our booking. It transforms more to a bistro atmosphere with candles on the table and floor to ceiling curtains

The only downside I can think of for Horto is that it does not have a better location within Rudding Park, as it does feel somewhat hidden away.

Tasting menu that changes with what is available from local supplier and their on site garden. Creative preparations that will make you like eating your vegetables more than you thought you could.

Near faultless dishes on the 6 course tasting menu (plus a few delightful surprise dishes added in) complemented by an excellent wine match.

My husband and I visited Rudding Park for an overnight stay. What a delightful place! Decided to eat in Horto and what a great choice. We chose the 6 course taster menu paired with 3 wines. We were treated to many different and varied tastes. All beautifully presented, carefully explained and many ingredients grown in the hotel garden. My favourites were the beef tartare and the wonderful 'runny egg' dessert! Smoked eel custard came a close third. So artistic-must be seen to be believed. A fabulous birthday treat.

We had the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairing and it was out of this world. There were also surprise offerings of ‘snacks’ which were little bite size morsels in between the actual courses. It was a thoroughly enjoyable special evening (about 3 hours in all). Don’t be fooled by what appears to be a very simple menu ... the complexity of the dishes and the taste is extraordinary. Would highly recommend.

This was our second trip to Horto but the first time in this setting. We were there on a Saturday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. After our last visit this was a highly anticipated visit and I am pleased to say the evening was not a disappointment. The restaurant was busy and there was a lovely atmosphere. We chose the seven course tasting menu and the wine flight to accompany the meal. The food was outstanding, it was beautifully presented and the wine complimented the dishes perfectly. The meal started with the most incredible oyster explosions and just continued to get better and better. It is difficult to pick out a favourite dish because they were all so good but my favourite would probably be the lobster with tomato consume, the flavours complimented each other beautifully and the deep tomato flavours were exquisite. The bread was served with two amazing butters, the taste of crispy chicken skin within the butter was incredible. The final dessert was certainly a show stopper, a perfectly formed white chocolate egg nestled among coconut with a mango centre, this was the perfect finale to the meal. The fantastic food was also matched by equally good service. The maitre d was very welcoming and took the time to talk to guests. The waiter who served our wine was knowledgeable and clearly enjoyed discussing the wine he was serving. We particularly enjoyed a white pinot noir served with the lobster. What I particularly liked about Horto was the fact that the chef serves some of the dishes, giving you a detailed description of what you are about to eat and possibly some of the history behind it. We have dined at a number of Michelin star restaurants in the past and certainly feel the food at Horto is equal to any of them. We will definitely return and are already looking forward to seeing what this incredibly talented young chef will produce next.

A good choice of healthy options on the menu, but for me the taster menus either 3 or 7 courses are to be recommended. If you have a leaning towards wine as a preferred accompaniment with dinner choose the pairing options with each course. We did the 3 course with wine, excellent, and these also come with a couple of small dishes between courses making the whole experience memorable

I wrote on my notes at the time my bill was presented to me 'The king is dead, long live the King'. In hindsight, this was somewhat dismissive of part of the Horto journey and for that, I am sorry. The point I was trying to make was that the promotion of the previous No.2 to Executive Chef or Head Chef (whatever the tittle he holds) was in every way, a great move. Using the blocks put in place by his predecessor, he has somehow managed to elevate the offering to yet higher levels. My last visit to Horto was when they occupied the space above the golf club and it had character in spades. The food was as close to perfection as I thought was possible and the service was outstanding. The 'feel' of that venue was that of a very relaxed, informal type and was great. The (as I will call it) 'New' Horto is sited within the spa area of the Hotel and has a somewhat different feel to it. A very 'chic' décor has been applied with some lovely modern artwork displayed throughout and notable is the space that now exists between tables which allows the busy staff to move effortlessly among the eager diners. Service now is perhaps a little more 'structured' than before, I will refrain from calling it 'formal' because it still has personality. We arrived early for our table. Not a conscious move but our Taxi just arrived a little before its booked time. The pre-service briefing was taking place and, as service began, you could see that this was a meaningful event not just a ' we have a glut of something which we need to push to the diners tonight' kind of speech. Pre-dinner, we ordered drinks, 1x champagne an a Pernod (other similar drinks are available), it seemed to me that the latter was something that was a little rare to them? but, nonetheless, it arrived. I have a suspicion that they may have needed to visit the main hotel bar for this but this I saw as a positive in that it was just 'done', no drama. Being a little 'trad' or as some may say 'old fashioned' the proximity of the Spa to the restaurant meant that during pre-drinks and indeed on a couple of occasions during service, we witnessed a number of robe wearing guests moving around which whilst not bothering us in any way, seemed just a little strange during the meal. I mean, my family may well see me in my dressing gown on a Sunday morning whilst preparing breakfast but it doesn't mean they 'enjoy' it. This did however add to the 'quirkiness' that we love about Horto. I will not attempt to describe the food as I would fail to do it justice, it would be a little like describing Messi as 'quite a good player' and that would never do. We did (for the first time) go with the full wine pairing which, whilst seemingly indulgent, was a great idea. It certainly gave an additional dimension to the experience and it is one that I would recommend. The serving staff were both knowledgeable and informative about all the individual components of the offering and shared, with enthusiasm, details of origin and cooking methods. This was equalled by the service of the wine pairing who's staff later provided us with a list of those that we had enjoyed. Would I normally spend this sort of money on a meal out? Sadly, my status in life means that this is very much 'an event' and because of that, perhaps its more important to me than if I were to eat here every month. That said, if I was to visit a west end show for the evening, I would be in exactly the same cost arena, so perhaps, I will manage to become a slightly more frequent visitor.

Anniversary dinner (to which daughter invited herself) was simply superb. Had the tasting menu and we oldies had the wine flight. Great fun with interesting info about the wine accompanying the food. Amazed at skill displayed by the kitchen with regard to flavour, textures and presentation. I'll never be able to replicate any of it! Which means we'll have to return. Staff are friendly and professional and want the diners to have a great evening.

Nice little bar and cafe with a good choice of drinks but limited food choices. Pretty sure the food is reheated from frozen - fine if you can't be bothered to cook for yourself but nothing special. Staff were friendly.
