Excellent across the board. We got there just as they were closing the kitchen and they still squeezed us in. The Sunday roast was great. The drinks selection was good. The staff were friendly with a good atmosphere. They even had a section with little cakes at the bar.

I really want to love this place, but I don’t. Ive been several times over the years and every time, I’ve been met with disinterested/rude staff and an expensive menu. The latest visit was probably the worst for feeling unappreciated and ‘out of place’. The staff were more interested in sharing tales from their social life than answering our requests, tricky ones like ‘can I have a menu to look at please’. The menu/specials always sound lovely but often are tasteless and expensive. It’s always busy, but I think that’s because of the gorgeous building, interesting history and, Let’s be honest, it’s the most modern indie offer in Knaresborough which is mostly pubs or the more standard ‘cafe’ experience. It’s just so disappointing that it never lives up to its appearance, I’ve brought friends and family in the past and have always felt embarrassed, but I have now learnt my lesson. I think perhaps it really isn’t family friendly, maybe if you’re a couple, the team might be more attentive? Either way, I really want to love this place but I can’t even bring myself to like it at all. I’ll be taking my family and my dosh to marigolds or carriages. At least they are independents that can muster up a smile as part of the service. And to the owners at six poor folk - just try a bit harder, it’s not a pleasant feeling to be ignored and ushered out of the place.

Rather than a cafe lunch, we had spotted here on a walk around the town, tucked away in the corner. We popped in and booked a table for the early afteroon and we were glad that we did. It was very popular for food and drinks, and we were seated upstairs in a quieter area. Good selction of food aand reasonably priced too!

Visited for lunch on a Saturday, with high hopes due to the good reviews. It's a cute, cosy space with lovely furniture. The staff were all really nice & welcoming. Sadly the food was nothing more than fine. The club sandwich was dry & unseasoned, the steak sandwich had barely a whiff of the advertised chimmichurri & the side salad was just wet leaves, chucked on the plate with no dressing. The child's portion of sausage & chips was smaller than many places. Given that it suggests it serves children under 12, my 7 year old was left eating from our plates too. Whilst it might be an OK spot for a drink, I certainly wouldn't return for the food.

Came for Sunday Lunch and firstly put in the tightest of corners behind a family already eating and had to disturb them during their meal. We then both ordered the beef and the portion size was poor for the meat only one slice each and tried to fill half the plate with cabbage, the roast potatoes weren’t fully cooked and beef was far too chewy, finally when asking for the bill they just forgot about us and we waited another 20 minutes then just went to the bar and paid no apologies either. The two main things the food and service were just not good enough sadly and does not represent the prices they charge.

My wife and I live in Knaresborough. Six Poor Folk is our favourite bar/eatery. Popped in today for a light lunch and a drink. As always we received a warm welcome from the team behind the bar. We placed our order, found a table, and within 15 minutes we were enjoying one of their menu staples, the sharing meat platter, which was fantastic. The whole experience of eating here, or just enjoying a morning coffee, is very pleasant. I can recommend Six Poor Folk to locals and visitors alike.

A last minute visit for a bite to eat whilst in Knaresborough. The staff were very friendly and we were given a table quickly. Opted for the Sunday lunch Beef sandwich with gravy and roasties twice, and my wife had the Sunday lunch. Served really quickly but my beef was only just warm, the roasties were ok but I’m not sure if they were frozen ones or not. The gravy needed some ooof! The Sunday dinner was just ok. Nice but could have been better. Ever so slightly overpriced in my opinion to be honest. If I could give 3 and a half stars I definitely would. I may try again in the future but maybe order a different meal. It hit the spot.

Incredibly disappointing - do not eat here This is a really disappointing, seeing as myself and my family were looking forward to going to the restaurant. It was booked under someone else name in my family. Firstly, when the booking was made a few weeks back, we had originally booked for six people for outside but we then changed our minds quickly and changed the table location on the same day to inside on the ground floor. When it came time for our booking, they hadn't changed it and they kept it as outside. This was very disappointing and reflects badly on whoever was in charge of changing and adding the booking. My girlfriend is heavily pregnant (8 months) and had to sit upstairs and found it really hard to walk up the stairs to get to the table. There was no apology from the staff. There is also no consideration for non-smokers as the tables outside (that take up the bulk of the tables at the restaurant) allow for smoking. We ordered starters to share (bread, continental meats and cheese) and while the portions were quite big, the quality was poor. The meat tasted store-brought and 'sweaty'. This part of the order was not the main issue but it did highlight the lack of quality and presentation of the food. When the mains arrived, my beef burger was very grisly and tasted strange and I left half of it. My girlfriend's chicken burger was worse; veins were in the chicken and it made my girlfriend anxious on whether the meat was actually cooked right. I don't understand how you can serve that quality of meat and be happy for it to leave the kitchen. The waitress tried to make amends but she could only do 10% off the order. I appreciate the gesture but 10% feels quite somewhat low for the gross quality of food. I genuinely do not recommend this restaurant and it goes to show that you can't always trust the other positive reviews.

Busy Saturday and what a gem of a place. Walked around the town looking at a few places for a drink and some food. Nearly didn't choose this place but glad we did. Sat in the sunshine outside in the garden area which is beautiful. The garden is a sun trap so a blessing if you like the heat. Food was spot on. The breakfast muffin was delicious and the prawn sandwich was just as good. Now the only issue that happened was the manager forgot to put our food order through, so after about half hour waiting we asked the question but they sorted it out with with no problem, waitress was kind and clearly working hard. The manager came over and apologised and got us a free round of drinks, so I was happy with that. Clearly the place was busy and they were all working hard to keep the place flowing. I would recommend to anyone.

Visited this welcoming, centrally placed bistro twice on a recent visit - once for mid afternoon “Tapas” and then for mid morning coffee. Really friendly and attentive staff though the morning coffee service was slow for some (not me) as clearly a relatively new team member being trained up. Lovely furnishings and atmosphere and very fairly priced for the location and quality of fare. My only criticism is that the tapas menu is really geared for two or more people with the serving platters. My olives and my humus were ok and plentiful but the latter was served with warmed bread not pitta and I think “bar snacks” summed them up rather than tapas. Why not have a platter geared for solo visitors? Good choice of wines by the glass and appreciated the choice to have a 125ml version. I’ll definitely return.

Been in a few times for beers and drinks. Great selection of house and guest ales and decent cocktails. Though expensive. Bar service was good. Saturday night food was a disaster, tried to order starters and mains and told as kitchen was busy everything would come out at once. This made no sense to us but when we questioned it was reiterated. Because we didn’t want a table full of food and to have our mains go cold whilst eating starters we changed the order to burgers only. They were pretty terrible, as others have said the bread was over toasted to the point of being hard and all 4 of us found the burger was underdone to the point of still being mushy mince. Our waitress was clearly new to the trade so hey ho but I also suspect that whoever was in the kitchen or managing the pass was new/not very good.

Fantastic cafe, bar and restaurant! Beer and drinks selection is fantastic, top 3 in Knaresborough for sure as as a pub/bar this is 5/5. As a cafe, fantastic coffee and lunch menu/cakes so 5/5 for that too! As a restaurant it's good although the for me the menu isn't quite as good in the evenings. But it's still one of the best places in Knaresborough and I'd recommend it to anyone. For lunch it's fantastic and probably the best in Knaresborough.

Six Poor Folk, so glad we stumbled across this lovely place! We did not have a reservation but the staff found us a table for two and advised we could eat but was we ok with live music, to which we thought we had struck gold but it was nice of them to ask as it's not for everyone! The staff were all really lovely and attentive, and we ordered from the tapas small plate style food which did not take long to come but was all piping hot and fresh. The Burrata was my favourite and my wife loved the prawn curry. I enjoyed the selection of beer and my wife had a few cocktails. The musician was fantastic, he had a beautiful voice and he sang all songs that we loved from bands we enjoy. It really made the night for us. It was a real shame that there was a very loud man that spoilt it for people, he was shouting over the musician. We would have stayed all night and had more drinks if it was not for him. No fault of the staff at all I might add just a shame for such a great night. Overall we had four drinks, olives and focaccia, the prawn curry, the lamb kofta and burrata and it came to a total of £85 (with a tip) which we felt was very reasonable. We will 100% be back, and will recommend Six Poor Folk to our clients staying in the area, family and friends.

We went for a spa day and had a dinner included in the Horto restaurant. The menu was limited that night and I asked if the chef could make a burger for me instead which he did and I swear it was amazing. I would definitely have that over 5 guys etc. Everyone at the both, spa and the restaurant went over and beyond and we had a blast. Couldn’t recommend more 🙌

We booked this restaurant over 4 months ago, only to turn up to find that it was closed!!!!! We had over an hours drive to the restaurant, as it had been recommended. The booking was for a special occasion, celebrating a friends birthday. We received notification of the booking from the booking agent the evening before as well as on the morning of the lunch booking, so there was no notification saying that the restaurant was closed. When we arrived there was a printed note on the door saying that there was a problem with the roof so it was going to be closed for a short while. There was no evidence of any building work and the tables were still set up for dining, so it seemed a very strange situation. I telephoned the restaurant and the call was transferred to an answer machine. I have still not received any feedback, which is very rude, All pre-booked diners should have been notified of the closure, as this is the only polite way to explain the situation. I have also checked the restaurant website (as I was planning to Email), and the website domain is no longer available. I can only assume that the restaurant is now permanently closed. Very unprofessional and rude!!

Nice little bar and cafe with a good choice of drinks but limited food choices. Pretty sure the food is reheated from frozen - fine if you can't be bothered to cook for yourself but nothing special. Staff were friendly.
