Simply stunning Sunday lunch here today. We met with a small group of friends foe a pre Christmas get to gether. We all had the Sunday lunch with a variety of meats. All meats were perfectly cooked and the huge Yorkshire puddings were amazing Vegetables were fresh, hot and plentiful. There was a generous supply of gravy too. All on all a fantastic meal for an extremely reasonable price. We usually have Sunday lunch at home but will be returning here in the near future. Bar and serving staff were attentive and there was a good selection of both wines and real ales.

Ordered 2 Sunday roast dinners for delivery. What an absolute disappointment. Broccoli was most definitely not cooked. Even the fork couldn’t pierce the floret. The beef, was stringy and full of fat. The cauliflower cheese would most definitely have been ok, if they had remembered to add the cheese. The Yorkshire pudding, was burnt on top, but full of thick stodgy uncooked mix, underneath. The final part of my Anchor Inn journey, was the fact that the whole meal cost £34.88. Not a huge amount to most, but a huge amount to me. So much for my monthly treat. Wont be spending another penny at this establishment.

First time here after 50 years living in nearby towns. A warm and dry Saturday, essential for choosing this place. Large carpark, though noisy kids' fun park next door. But many food offerings at reasonable prices, and decent choices of beers. Waitress service was polite, knowledgeable and efficient. Food was excellent and plenty of it. Approx £20 each including a beer. Waitress was surprised that we left a tip, tho it was well deserved. Getting out of the carpark can be tricky with limited vision to the left.

Stopped off on our canal trip as we had enjoyed a lovely meal here last year. This year was a big disappointment, it was a Saturday and after browsing the menu my wife was pleased to see a liver and onion dish on the menu, on ordering I was told we haven't got any liver, quick decision had to be made and the wife changed to the anchor burger she had enjoyed so much the last visit. When the food came the burger and chips were at best luke warm, the waitress came asked if everything was OK, we said no, she replied I'll let them know, on eating what she could of the meal we went to pay the bill and this time told the woman who appeared to be in charge, and again got the reply I'll let them know before turning back to what seemed to be her main interest chatting with the regulars, I think a course on customer service for this lady would definately improve the place.

Sad to say this is a British pub minus any atmosphere. Huge beer garden and outdoor sitting area alongside the canal. Music so loud it destroyed the quality of the singers plus attempts at conversation. Sad that drinks all served in plastic.

Nice dining room, friendly welcome. However we had literally sat down and picked up the menu when we were asked if we were ready to order…explained we were still waiting for one of our party and we hadn’t read the menu yet. Ordered a gin and tonic, it arrived with no ice or lemon…had to ask for ice and clearly there was none behind the bar because it took a while to arrive. The missing member of our party arrived, sat down and we were immediately asked if we were ready to order, asked for another few minutes. The food was fine, nice and hit and freshly cooked although the gravy that came with the pies contained unidentifiable chunks of meat, plain gravy would be better. Couldn’t have dessert because the kitchen was closed. There is a huge garden with tables in uniform rows out the back, plus a massive marquee that seems to be used for weddings. I suspect loud and noisy ones. Garden not very appealing. So, food fine but some staff training is needed, especially on the gin and tonic!

If you want a quiet canalside pub you'll have to look elsewhere. Music blaring out across 'beer garden' (which was so full of tables in rows that it resembled a school dining hall) and audible 200 yards away. No idea what the food or beer was like as we left rapidly. Interestingly the place was almost empty (admittedly late Wednesday afternoon) so perhaps others agree.

It is unfortunate that I feel the need to write this review because seven out of the nine in our party enjoyed their meals. However, when we were asked for our order I had the unfortunate experience of asking for 8oz Rump steak 'without any trimmings' I empathised this three times to the waitress 'I just want the steak and chips without any garnish whatsoever'. My daughter also then made a joke of this to the waitress again saying 'please believe me he does not want any garnish, whatsoever'. You guessed it, when the meals arrived my meal came with Steak covered in pepper and a clove of Garlick on it and two onion rings thrown in. I said I'm sorry but that is not what I asked for and explained again that I did not want any garnish whatsoever. I just like 'plain food'. The waitress took my plate away and returned with the same Steak and chips with the clove of Garlick and the onion rings taken away. Again I said I was sorry but you could still see the peppers and smell the Garlick on the steak so no I will not accept this. Believe me I was polite to the waitress because I was not sure if the message was not being passed on to the chief or the chief was just being unprofessional. The waitress finally brought me my steak and chips and said that had been completely replaced. However, I noticed that the waitress was also holding the plate with two tea cloths being used as oven mitts. Fortunately, a good friend of mind who used to be a chief had told me years ago that if someone was complaining they would put the plate on the hot plate and then pass it to the customer to burn off their finger prints. Luckily because I was aware of this procedure I just put the plate down really quickly so it did not burn me too badly. Now for my review of the meal that was put in front of me. I tried cutting into the steak and found that it was just 'fat' running all the way through it and some of it was actually blue where it had not even been cooked. It was totally uneatable, and as the rest of our group had by now finished their meals I gave up trying to eat in this restaurant. I gave the steak and chips back to the waitress and explained that the meal I had been given was disgusting and gave it her back saying that we would not be paying for this. Later the Manager did come over to us and said 'I understand that there was a problem with one of your meals, I'm sorry about that and we will deduct that from the bill'. Considering I had not had a meal I did not think there was anything else she could do because, as I had said we would not be paying for what was a disgraceful meal. The Garlick also ruined my grandson's meal. He loves Garlick bread and yet he said that what he had been given was too much, even for him. I may be alone here but I like and expect to get plain food when I ask for it. Unfortunately, I have found that Chiefs all over the place do not have enough faith in their cooking to give you plain food. Instead they have to put something else on the plate. Salad or something like that even if you have strenuously asked for your meal to be plain, but having Garlick on your plate has to be the worse thing possible. As a plain eater, more importantly a customer I should be able to get what I ask for! It has to be easier for the chief to do this, but 'No' it appeared to much trouble. I have now learnt that my Son-in-Law has contacted the Anchor Inn and spoken to the Manageress and explained how disappointed we had been with the experience which had actually put a damper on what was his wife's and my daughter's 40th birthday. Unfortunately, the reply he got was 'we always put Garlick on our food, even though this is not mentioned on the menu or by the waitress taking the order! Sorry but there is nothing we can do now, was the reply. So if you like Garlick by all means go to the Anchor Inn in Nuneaton. However, if you don't I would personally advise you not to bother.

45 minute wait for Sunday dinner followed by further 5 minutes for the vegetables. What little Beef you had was full of sinew. The Gammon faired considerably worse with half of it being fat. Kitchen seemed more concerned with supplying Just eat and Deliveroo customers (they probably got their dinners a darn site quicker than we did). Shame as last time we went (a Saturday evening) dinner was quite enjoyable. Try it at your own risk.

It's not dark like it was, the bar has been rejigged and has more space. We had planned on a main and desert course, but that didn't happen. After the main course we were absolutely stuffed. On top of all this the staff were really friendly and helpful. My youngest son loves to dive into the vegetable serving that comes with the meals and there’s plenty to go around. Very hot and fresh. Trinity, Sophie and Vicki interacted with my young kids and treated them just like they would an adult. I had the specials dessert of “chish & fips” and would be comfortable only eating that for the rest of my life, such a light and airy cheesecake! Chef Steph does an amazing job with the dessert creations. Thanks team for a wonderfully welcoming visit <3

After reviewing good comments on Tripadvisor we went for Sunday lunch, and the manager was extremely polite and accommodating on arrival and served drinks promptly, of which the Guinness was a really good standard. We ordered 3 starters and 4 Sunday roast lunches, and 1 Burger meal. The starters arrived within 25 mins and although presented well, they all appeared to be “warm” rather than hot, and the prawns did not taste right, but we did not want to make an issue about a starter. Then we waited an hour for our main meals to come out, and I asked about the delay, being told that one of the other customers had a food allergy, so the preparation of this specific meal had caused all of the other customers to be delayed. The meals finally arrived another 10mins later. Again, the presentation was very good and they looked delicious, with the food stacked in a tower format, with a Yorkshire placed as a crown on the top. Unfortunately, the Yorkshire was stone cold and hard, and we had requested that one of the Sunday Roasts excluded the cauliflower cheese, but this had not been noted, so we told the waitress that we needed A roast without cauliflower cheese and I also mentioned that ALL the Yorkshire’s were cold. She politely apologised and took the one roast away. She came back with a new roast dinner excluding cauliflower but no replacement Yorkshire’s, but everyone was so hungry from the 70min wait that they had already started eating. I poured hot gravy over my meal, and although the meat (beef and turkey) were of good quality, it was quite difficult to cut the beef due to the knives provided. However all of the vegetables were cold, the roast potatoes were overcooked and hard, but still cold. We all ate the meat but left most of the vegetables. The double burger was overdone, to the point it was grey and hard, in addition to also being cold. At no point did anyone return to check if we were happy, although we had initially stated it was cold to the young waitress, when she politely said “I’m really sorry about that” When we asked for the bill, the young waitress Asked “was everything alright with your meals” seeing that every plate was half full .... I said it was not good and asked to speak to the manager. The manager came over promptly, but as I explained that all of the food was cold, she asked if we had been asked by the waitress, and when I told her that the young waitress had apologised but nothing was done, the manager asked me to describe which waitress it was, then turned and walked away to find her whilst I was in mid sentence. She then appeared 5 mins later, but returned to the bar, and was clearly annoyed by the way she was speaking to the bartender, as she was operating the till. I waited a further 5 minutes, still with no eye contact from her, so I approached the bar asking if she had forgotten about me? She said she was trying to knock off “a few drinks” but that’s all she would offer, as we had eaten most of the meat. I expressed that this was not satisfactory as we had only eaten 30% max and the 70min delay, which she then reiterated the customer with the allergy causing the delay and that she would be strongly disciplining the waitress for not responding adequately to when we highlighted the meals were cold. I felt this was unprofessional to blame a young inexperienced waitress, and when I advised I would be leaving negative feedback on Tripadvisor she said”well I hope you leave good comments about my service”. I reluctantly paid the bill, with several soft drinks deducted and left. I can honestly state that I will NEVER return to the pub again, which is a real shame as it looked lovely and clean with the makeover, but the poor standard of cold food and embarrassing situation of the manageress blaming staff, then refusing any refund is too distressing, to the point I rely duty bound to advise anyone else intending to visit.

We’ve visited many times and the food, service and atmosphere are always excellent. It’s so refreshing to find a real pub run by a real dedicated independent publican that cares. Such places are getting harder and harder to find. Well done!

We visited for a drink with family and friends whilst out walking with our dog ovwr christmas. The garden was FULL of dog poo! We had to dodge it walking through the garden and then there was even dog poo on the seats of the benches! There were saw blades and screwdrivers on the benches and a mountain of fag ends even though there’s a massive sign saying ‘no smoking inside the marque’.Then to top our visit off I had a bag of pork scratchings with my drink and they were out of date. Another member of our party had some crips and they were also out of date.Safe to say we won’t be returning as it’s a health hazard!! Disgusting and a shame as we used to walk here regularly in the summer.

We had the added bonus of seeing lots of dogs as there had been a dog walk so there were lots and lots!!! of dogs of all shapes and sizes in the large garden area. If mans best friend is not for you, it might be worth checking how often they hold the doggy days.We sat inside. Food was lovely and the waitress was welcoming however there was a long wait for our meals and there were n't that many people ordering full meals as we were.We still had a lovely time in a lovely setting

Visited the anchor inn last night with Mrs, lovely setting quite small but cute. Staff were very good and welcoming. Now to the problem 1.5 Hrs wait time for food. Chicken wings would not feed a scabby cat. The silence of the lambs pie promised so much and delivered an over cooked rock hard pastry with dry lamb and no gravy. Chips were lovely but had to give it up as a bad meal. Staff refunded the meal. Positive was my Mrs steamed pollock, very nice. New chef not quite with it.Will return due to staff and location.

We visited The Anchor Inn recently whilst on a narrowboat holiday in the area. We weren't initially planning on visiting The Anchor but delays meant we moored right by the back gate. On arrival, there didn't appear to be anyone eating and only a few friendly locals at the bar... This left us a little unsure whether to order food or not.... We bit the bullet and did. We hadn't have needed to worry! The food was great value, well cooked with large portions! The sharing starter is particularly good value and large! Drinks prices are reasonable and a good night had by all...would definitely recommend!

I have driven past this place on the way to work for the past six years but never been in until I met up there about a month ago with a relative who was visiting from NZ and took advantage of the inn's motorhome parking facility. Realising that it is about 3 miles from home via a leisurely walk along the canal I returned with my wife today for lunch. Oh, my, were we glad we did! The Boatman's Lunch, served on a wooden plate that looks like Stonehenge, was huge and tasty with a thrilling selection of dressings and relish and my blue cheese and mushroom gnocchi was just spectacular. As noted previously, don't go here for a swift bite in your lunch hour, but if you have the time and the patience to wait for some truly delicious freshly prepared food whilst enjoying some good quality and reasonably priced drinks there's nothing locally to beat it.

Me and my partner went to the Anchor with two of our friends for a couple of beers and a meal, very good beer very friendly helpful staff all of our food was presented very nicely all be it not that hot,(shame) but we enjoyed it,they have made a big effort to make the menu different to most other pubs which is good to see,and we would have loved to of gone back to try other meals on the menu, But and a BIG but we won't go there again after the owner decided to let his two large dogs out into the eating area we were sat in and they both proceeded to urinate up a chair next to our table and when we told them he just looked at the dog pee and shrugged his shoulders and walked of,and did nothing about cleaning where they had weeed.

We were extremely impressed as hadn't been here since last summer, however the staff were very attentive, especially the barman. He paid particular attention to our little girl giving her paper & crayons to occupy her, while we waited for our food. Food portions were a good size & the Sunday roast was amazing with plenty of veggies. Liked the pub as it wasn't too crowded & we felt relaxed and not rushed.

Just returned from an average meal and extremely disgusting service from the staff and owner! As a table of 14 we were disgusted with the way our party was handled, the food when it arrived after waiting nearly 40minutes was average at best- meat was fatty, vegetables were cold and extremely under cooked, and mash was watery and lumpy. This could have been overlooked and we could of just said we had a bad meal and not of returned however the customer service from the staff was little to non and when queried with the owner i can understand why! We never got asked if the meal was okay, and they started clearing our table while some of party was still eating, after us making a comment they never returned so we were sat with half a table of dirty plates. It’s a good job we never wanted dessert as that was not offered either. On paying for the bill we expressed our concerns to a member of staff, who quickly got the owner. The owner was rude, argumentative and showed little empathy. As someone that works in this industry i would never speak/treat customers the way he treated us! He was clearly not bothered and just wanted to sit and eat his own dinner that was sat waiting in the bar for him! As a large table that was bringing a lot of business into his pub, i would be doing everything i could to ensure the customer left happy- this was not the case! We will never return! Good luck to anyone that does!

After reading some of the reviews we decided to try here today and was not disappointed. Food all cooked to order so is probably why some had a wait if they had other order but we didn't have a massive wait and the food was fantastic, even better that's it's not just a typical pub grub on the menu. The duck just melted in the mouth. Service was also great very warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Cant wait to go when we have warm weather for the kids to play in the beer garden. Definitely worth a visit

We found this place walking along the canal. We stopped for lunch and 3 of us had fabulous steaks, whilst our fourth member had a club sandwich. We were so impressed we decided to go back again a week later. This time we were not so impressed. My lasagne came with weird vegetables- curly kale and mange tout. My friend’s pork escalope was tough. The steak was still good, though

Ordered 2 tuna baguettes - 1 white, 1 brown with chips. After 40 minutes, I asked if our food was on its way only to be told they had a very large party so there was a bit of a delay. There was a table of 3 adults and 4 or 5 children outside. Inside were a couple who arrived before us, waiting for food. No evidence of very large party! Another 20 minutes, our tuna baguette arrived - both white, the salad contained the middle hard section of the tomato that had been cut out but left on the plate, coleslaw tasteless, small portion of chips. On serving, the waitress finally apologised for our wait and offered a drink on the house. We had travelled from France, driven up from Portsmouth and were extremely disappointed. If we had been forewarned about the wait, then fair enough but this was not good.

Avoid this cafe for certain bad service shocking staff truly a big miss in my book. Arrived at 9.30 am departed at 10.55am no food and asked for my money back and left. They told me when I ordered there might be a short wait . So as I'm waiting along with 6 other tables one bloke walks in obviously regular sits down gets served straight away then a bit later another walks in served there food straight away while all 6 tables still awaiting food. Basically the chef and the helper are too busy talking and none cooking of food going on. Eventually after 1.5 hours of waiting two other tables walked in now the last one in then got served before us. After sitting in a freezing cold cafe no heating no drinks until 5 minutes before we left I'd had enough.. the coffee was horrid latter had congealed off milk around the cup like it had separated I nearly heaved had to by Victoria and being diabetic made it worse. I approached the counter wasn't rude and asked why have that 5able been served before us as they arrived at least half an hour after us. She replied your order needed hash browns Really my misses then just walked out 1.5 hours was a joke I asked for my money back and left. So we wasted one and a half hours sat there with no drink looking on at the counter seeing them laughing and eating behind the counter it was embarosing they should drastically improve there customer skills as no one will come here . Also at least 3 customer take away ordered goods left and asked for there money back. A 3rd member of staff came on shift and it actually was slower . My advice is if you want to serve food and stop delays try cooking the food or doing two orders instead of one at a time. This cafe is by far the worst service I have ever received in 40 years of cafes all over the country. I will never return and will actively tell all my friends avoid it.

What a great restaurant. Menu has great choices. Food was served quickly and very hot, temperature wise. Fab flavours. I had the vegetable biriyani which was vey tasty and full of vegetables. Generous portion. Cheese nan was light and fluffy. Popadoms were crisp. Service was excellent. Comfortable restaurant with modern decor. This is the second time we have visited this restaurant. Highly recommend.

First time ordering and won’t be back. Sloppy portions. I ordered rice and ended up with half a portion in the plastic tray. Prawns which weren’t exactly cheap arrived cold. I feel that if you order through just eat… it isn’t as carefully prepared as it would be ordering by phone. It’s a no from me.

They discriminate against people for other people's actions even though the people wasn't apart of that the others was doing what they was and the people not involved was just trying to make them leave the pub while they do what they was doing
