Food and service is hit or miss. Sometimes it’s very good sometimes it’s very bad

Drinks are served in large cups. Good value for money and their toasted sandwiches are good as well.

Terrible cup of tea. Very weak. No teabag left in cup. Need string teabags so we can brew the tea until we are happy with the strength

This is the oldest pub in Newport, so it seemed rude not to call in for a drink. I had a half pint of a good hand pulled ale. My partner had a pint of stout. It is worth a visit if you’re interested in traditional beer.

Have been before and enjoyed the food. However, this time ordered a cheese panini to end up finding odd bits of ham in it! Not good when vegetarian. Bits were in both parts of panini, seemed to be a cross contamination issue but not good. Would have been worse if this was an allergy. Was a bit disgruntled to have paid over 5 pounds for something I could not eat due to proper food hygiene not being met. This has put me off returning.

Staff very welcoming and pleasant.....only had coffee on this visit but willl return to sample some of the lovely food on offer. Like to support local businesses versus large coffee chains

We were in Newport and decided it would be rude and unnecessary of us not to nip into a Wetherspoons pub and sample the breakfast on offer. It was first thing in the morning after all. We were a tad peckish and looking forward to a good feast. And so we entered The John Wallace Llinton and ordered a couple of their traditional starters to the day. Sausages, hash browns, bacon, toast beans, the usual 'Spoons brekkie arrived in differing stages of heat. Hot sausage and nuclear hash browns accompanied tepid bacon and cold toast. Beans with a medium depth skin on the sauce surface fought for room with a fried egg that had been cooked in the same furnace as the hash browns. So hard, it was dangerous enough to almost blunt the knife. Adequate, nothing more.

I visited their many times, but today I only said to the guy serving me, hello my big gorgeous friend, meaning how tall he is compared to me. I had some young girl from behind the counter, come up to me and say, you can't say big! You might offend people who have worries about their weight! She is young enough to be my daughter! I am fed up of PC snowflake nonsense! My child and I go there frequently, but after today no more! They also have a customer in with a huge alsation that once went for my child, who still goes there and the dog still barks at my child and scares him! Yet nothing I said!
