nice inexpensive lunch spot, food was of good quality, and coffee was great, only slight drawback was it was a little cold when we were in today.

The Gillespie Centre is based in a refurbished former church building in the centre of the town and aside from the café the building is used for many community events. It’s operated by Biggar Kirk and most, if not all of the staff are volunteers. The café hours are limited to the earlier part of the day (10am - 2.30pm or thereabouts) so best to check online. It’s self-serve and a bright and modern setting. When we last dropped in it was very busy and noisy in the main area of the café. I guess a kid’s club or some such event had recently finished and consequently there were lots of adults and children having lunch. The other section which overlooks the High Street was fully occupied so we just had to embrace the noise level. As we had our grandchildren with us at the time it was probably a good distraction for them to be amongst their peers. The menu consists of soup, sandwiches, paninis, etc and there is usually a nice selection of cakes. The kids had a cheese toastie with a salad garnish & coleslaw (£5) and a filled ham roll (£3) along with cartons of apple juice (£1) so it’s not an expensive outing. My wife and I had Brie & Cranberry Paninis (£5.70) which were also served with a salad garnish & coleslaw. We all had a cake to finish off - sponge with icing, plain scone and paradise slice all reasonable priced between £2.20 - £2.50. The food was very good (and inexpensive by today’s standards) and the staff serving were local and very pleasant so it’s easy to recommend. I’m sure it has quiet moments at times.

We discovered this cafe today with our wee granddaughter, cosy, friendly atmosphere, staff exceptionally helpful and polite, we felt very welcome. Cakes were fresh and tasty (the coffee cake was the best I’ve ever had). Would recommend

I always book online and well in advance so we get a table in the conservatory area. It was the first time my dining partner had been and the food didn’t disappoint. So much so she is already thinking of returning soon! We ordered a sweet to share, and had to mention to the waitress that we had been waiting a while. She apologised and so did the chef by giving us an extra bowl of ice cream. Can’t complain when the great service makes up for a wee delay. My next girlie catch up lunch is already booked on line.

Not a bad place to get a quick bite to eat, as per another review on here the ordering system is a bit of a pain, when you walk in also there is no clear menu with everything displayed, which means having to grab a menu off the table, the food is good for what you pay for, great desserts I must say and the coffee is brilliant, cash only is a bit of a pain, but I understand with the taxes and fees from banks these small businessess must face, so overall I will be back Thanks

Stayed here with my wife while attending a wedding at nearby Cornhill Castle. The staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was good quality. Street parking was fine when we visited but I imagine it could be difficult when the town is busy with time restrictions in some areas. Staff helpfully provided taxi numbers to Cornhill. I thought it was slightly pricey although we did have a family suite. Good enough for a return visit though.

Awful service. Ordered a rare boxset they had in stock, only for them to wait 3 days before taking it off the shop floor, by which time it had already been sold. Incredibly poor service, definitely would not trust them to actually have in stock what their shop says, save yourself a headache, go elsewhere for everything.

I have attended Carrigans Hamilton for many years. I am however extremely disappointed that my daughter had her hen weekend ruined by the bar manager hurling abuse at my daughter telling her to be quiet !!! When in fact she was not being loud or Boisterous as reported back to myself by other clients within the bar area. I was also told that when a complaint was made it was dealt with by being told there must be a reason no checking to ascertain the facts! I called to speak to the owner and still await a call. So therefore after all these years of acquainting and taking family and friends to Carrigans I will not be back. I would like to say the bar manager should apologise for his behaviour towards the girls however also knowing him very well I won’t hold my breath
