A lovely spot in the centre of Biggar where we enjoyed lunch and sweet treats. We visit the Gillespie Centre regularly when holidaying in the area and always get a warm welcome. The food is delicious and the prices are more than reasonable. We'll definitely be back.

The Gillespie Centre is a lovely spot for coffee and refreshments. The location is excellent, right in the centre of Biggar, with parking nearby. The food is good and freshly cooked, prices are reasonable. I can particularly recommend the Scones and cakes which are all homemade. The volunteers who serve in the centre are kind friendly and helpful. I have always been made to feel welcome there.

Decent choice menu - nothing fancy but all looked fresh. Very good value (e.g. soup and sandwich deals, and coffee for £7.50). That's partly due to the volunteers in a community cafe, so it has low overheads. The setting is fine, in an old church converted for community spaces, and tables and seats in the glazed porch enable a lot of watching the world go by (at 20 mph through the village).

We like to eat light when travelling, but it is often difficult to find a place for a light lunch. The Gillespie Centre cafe fits the bill exactly. This was our first try of a "community cafe," which are quite common in Scotland - but it certainly wasn't our last!

Faced with a choice of cafés in Biggar we decided to support the local volunteer run café in its latest incarnation after decades of community involvement. It has been recently and nicely renovated, the food was good standard café fare, the welcome was full of charm, and on Jubilee weekend, they had a collection of Jubilee memorabilia books for sale.

We’ve Been coming here for ten years while holidaying in Mossfennan. Biggar itself is wonderful and this place offer brilliant snacks at very reasonable prices. There is a feeling of community, with a small library of used books for sale and the staff are so friendly.

A local lady pointed us in direction of this Café for a morning coffee, and she told us that it has the best homemade cakes in town. The staff are all so friendly and keen to please. It was one of the best cups of coffee that I have drunk.

Stopped in for a quick lunch which was well worth the visit. We all had soup and a sandwich and honestly the soup was as if you’d granny had made it. Hubby had scotch broth which he practically licked the bowl clean, he said was fantastic. Girls had vegetable soup which tasted as if your best granny was looking after you and made you “get better soon” soup. It was so filling and delicious. Sandwiches were great as well!!! Worth a visit as I could see amazing cakes but full so I might have to call in and support the community by eating cake.

Decided that Biggar was an ideal distance to travel from Edinburgh before stopping for a coffee break. Called in here to the Gillespie Centre and so glad we did. They brought out a fresh batch of home made cheese scones just as we got to the counter and they were so good we got seconds as a take-away.The volunteer staff were very welcoming and freely gave advice on shopping in Biggar - we wanted egg-cups & they suggested the local charity shop. The food was fresh, the coffee hot, the tables spotlessly clean, toilets excellent. You can also look at the paintings for sale on the walls around the cafe. Choice of seating areas - in the main cafe (where we sat) or in the front section with views out onto the street.

After breakfast and a little shopping we still had time to put of before arriving at our Hotel. We spied this place on the Main street and noticed that they had a lovely conservatory attached to the church. The tearoom extends back into the main body of the kirk and can accommodate quite a few people but in little nooks and crannies. Many locals use this place so you know it's good and reasonably priced. We were only in need of a cuppa and some homemade cake. They do light snacks etc. but the selection of homemade cake is excellent. My wife had coffee/walnut and I had paradise cake. We asked for chocolate mint slice and fruit slice to take away. Our pot of tea seemed to pour forever so I managed a piece of the 'Border Tart' as well. I'm not usually so greedy but I just love homemade. The staff were very nice and attentive. We'll be back!

stopped here on my way to Edinburgh along with three other members of my family. What a brilliant find/ as in other reports the food (mostly home made) was of good quality plus the staff serving couldn't have been more helpful. The place itself was spotless and being nearly opposite the main car park plus a pedestrian crossing at the door for crossing the main road things could not be better. So if you are passing through Biggar give it a try.

Just went in for a coffee and a Toasted teacake and found the premises spotless and so bright - it has alcoves and a large glass window so you can see Biggar going by .Staff extremely friendly and enjoyed a wee bit of banter with known clients and had a kind word for returning clients who they knew .This is a Church Cafe situated right in the town centre so unable to miss.Toilets were immaculate as well and has a Invalid Toilet and ramps to get in and out of the premises too so another big plus -a choice of two soups available and lots of sandwiches and light lunches too all at a very reasonable price

En route from Paisley to Newcastle my family and I decided to have something to eat in Biggar and were directed to the Gillespie Centre by a local shopkeeper. The church hall was bright and roomy and had a goodly number of tables which were clean and tidy. There was a good selection of snacks on offer, the counter staff friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our choices of soup and sandwiches. The toilets were modern and well maintained. This is obviously very popular with locals etc and my only criticism is that given the standard of food available the price structure is too low! We cannot recommend the Gillespie Centre too highly. Well done Biggar.

First time dining here and i will be back again hopefully soon. The parking isn't the greatest when their busy. The staff are lovely and it didn't take long for the food. My starter was amazing but my main was astounding. It was such a big portion i had to ask for a doggie bag. It was so easy to book a table. The decor is feels warm and cosy. The place is spotless. Can't wait to go there again. The prices are very reasonable and is big portions.

Did not have to wait too long for our food, considering it was so busy. Food was fantastic. Great portion sizes. Staff were great. Definately would go back and would recommend.
