Carrigan's Eating House in South Lanarkshire

Was recommended Carrigans by friends and they were right. Need to book, which I did, for a saturday night. Great menu choice, something for everyone. Did not have to wait too long for our food, considering it was so busy. Food was fantastic. Great portion sizes. Staff were great. Definately would go back and would recommend.

Tried the new late lunch 2pm till 6pm. I had the mushroom crusting which was fantastic and the fish and chips. Great portion size £ 3 for a starter and £6.95 for a main course. Great value and great food. Great service.

Warm welcome received, specials explained and orders taken promptly. Food was delicious and portion sizes excellent. We were checked on regularly even though the restaurant was busy. We cannot wait to return.

Portions are generous. Go small if you have a choice and are not too hungry. Food is fresh, staff are helpful and friendly. Restaurant is in a pleasant woodland setting. Highly recommended.😃

Great service arrived early and was taken to our table and the quality of the food was exceptional. The gaps between courses was spot on.

So I’ve been going to Carrigan’s for 20 years and never been disappointed but last night’s experience means I won’t be back. On arrival, no one to greet us at the door for about 5 mins with staff walking past us. After being seated at the table, noticed that the surrounding area was dirty and had food debris all around us. When ordering drinks, the fizzy soft drinks were flat and didn’t taste right. We ordered 3 courses of food: Starters: These were cold and the portion size small compared to years gone by, it then took about 15 mins to clear our table after we had finished eating. Mains: This took over 40 mins to arrive after the table was cleared of starters. When it did eventually arrive, you could tell that 3 of the mains had been reheated as they must have forgotten to make one of the mains and left the other sitting. The chips are no longer made fresh and frozen are used and these were clearly the dregs of the bag as well, because they were greasy, burnt and black, didn’t eat them. They were disgusting. Dessert: Sticky Toffee Pudding was dry and the custard served with it was cold. The Apple Crumble was mainly tasteless and the serving of custard provided was laughable. It was basically the equivalent of 2 tablespoons, wehen poured of apple crumble it didn’t even cover half of it. On top of this, we were only asked if we wanted more drinks once the entire time we were there. When taking the dessert order, there were empty drinks glasses on the table that weren’t cleared and also not asked if we would like more so just left until we had finished the dessert and table cleared. We also observed that when staff were clearing tables, instead of lifting condiments off the tables, they were spraying the cleaner onto the table cover these items in cleaner and then lifting them as they were wiping the table. Surely things like that are just common sense to avoid contamination? I know this sounds like a rant but it’s genuinely the worst dining experience I’ve had in as long as I can remember. We specifically came out of our way to go here as I had family over visiting from abroad and it was also my birthday. An absolute let down. I know you can’t be perfect all the time but Carrigans you have definitely let your standards drop in every way. Cleanliness, food quality and staff, the only thing I would say is that the price point is still very agreeable with it working out around £35 per person for 3 courses and 2 non-alcoholic drinks each.

Poor experience ,waited almost an hour for our main course ,staff were lovely clearly a kitchen issue ,I ordered gammon steak and chips which arrived cold and gammon steak dry and cold ,when waitress came to take plates I she asked was everything ok as she could see plate had hardly been touched …I advised it was cold and tough ..conversation ended there ..we paid the bill and left ,been in Hamilton and Blantyre many times ,no complaints ..sadly wouldn’t return here

Wonderful food, friendly service, great atmosphere. Servers were attentive and friendly, helped with choices. The lamb shank was very moist and tasty - and a large portion! The other meals left everyone satisfied as well. Desserts were also tasty. A great place for any occasion!

Use Carrigans quite often both with family and with work colleagues, and this is the first time we have been disappointed. Had to wait 50 mins to get the kids dinners and a little longer for the adults. There were other tables who came in after us but got their food before us. When the food came it wasn't up to the usable standard. The pizza was undercooked and the pasta with chicken in a tomato sauce was bland. The kids meals were well below par as well. Really disappointed as usually the food is excellent and reasonably quick to the table. The one good thing was they way the staff dealt with the issues, they were apologetic and done their best. Possibly too many people in for the restaurant to handle.

Excellent service great food staff very pleasant couldn’t do enough for you and the desert of the day apple pie was delicious would highly recommend it

Have ate here before and enjoyed the food but this by far was the worst dinner we've had in a longtime,My grandson had the Kids Pizza -thin base with very little sauce or cheese to cover it ,very soggy,french fries looked as if they had been on a hot plate for hours, he didn't touch it,I had the curry which I always have was nice although the portion of chips were dry and crisp not fresh cooked chips obviously cheaper oven chips,then husbands Steak Pie,well what can I say worst ever,pastry was not crusty it was thin,soft and soggy almost stretchy to eat, 4 chunks of stew under it first bit was so chewy he didn't try the rest,asked for new potatoes,was given 2 tasteless brown things perched on what looked like a bed of (Smash) powder potatoes with a funny colour,followed by the veg,chunks of turnip like doorstops and the cabbage looked boiled till they had no colour or taste,when we brought it up with the staff they seemed dismissive offered another of something different but on the whole didn't seem bothered,then when clearing our plates away we said our opinion and was told Ill tell the Manager,which never appeared and the 1 main meal was deducted from the bill,This is not good enough in the interest of good customer service we should have been spoken to,as a small business ourselves we pride ourselves in good customer care and attention, There was also a table next to ours and the guy sent his food back as it was frozen and he waited a while to get another while the rest of the family ate theirs,he had to remind the waiter to get another plate as he waited a while for it,it wasnt even busy today a 5 pm. That's my Rant Over, will be a while before we're back there again,

The food arrived within 5 mins of ordering. We both had Scampi and fries. It was cold. The chips were dry and the 6 pieces of scampi were soggy and cold. The salad consisting of a bit of rocket and watercress a spoonful of tasteless coleslaw. So disappointing. The service was the best thing.

Excellence service and lovely food. Went with family that it was their first visit and were impressed with their meal. Will definitely be visiting again as always

Popped in for dinner with our family last night and overall we had a great experience. We were sat in the conservatory which was amazing since the sun was out, view was great. Was served by the tall dark haired waitress, Julie I think. She was so accommodating, pleasant and made our dining experience very enjoyable. Our meal was good however the chips were a little cold. We would return again!

What a great restaurant. The food is legendary, especially the steak pie, and the chips are always cooked to perfection. My daughter always goes for the fish and chips and they never fail to satisfy! Very tidy and clean, especially the toilet facilities, and Jennifer and the cleaning team do a fantastic job .

Here last night with relatives from America. Relative from USA ordered small plate steak pie and could not believe the huge portion. She said it was great. We all had something different and everything was great, The only little niggle was most of the chips were small and hard with only 3 or 4 decent sized. The waitress was great from start to finish and was funny, made us laugh. Food and service great from start to finish. will be back.

Food was Fantastic, shame about the staff. Attended initially by a male team member and it was very clear everything was an effort. Was with my 91 year old mother who wanted a small portion, waiter impatient and clearly didn’t listen. Presented a mountain of food so we asked for it to be downsized and eventually got there. Engaged with three staff in total and all seemed disinterested and unhelpful. Waitress said we could take away left overs but didn’t tell us there would be a 25p charge. Would have been good to be told. Good food but experience ruined by miserable unhelpful staff. Very disappoiinted.

The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The staff and very professional and friendly. Would highly recommend Carrigans.

As usual, another great eting experience served up by the staff at Carrigans. Excellent service and the food again was plentiful and very tasty. Make sure you are hungry before you go…. Would recommend a visit and enjoy the food from a very extensive and varied menu.

Been to Carrigans a few times but first time in EK. Food was average to poor. Chips tasted as if they had been left lying southern fried chicken did not keep breadcrumbs on.. and salad had some rogue peas. Carbonara was really bland. Service, waiting staff were lovely but service was so slow. Waited 30mins for one sharing platter and then another 40 mins for mains and then 25 mins for one dessert. I def won’t return

Excellent and friendly service, food was tasty and plentiful; great value too. Staff were very helpful arranging and accomodating wheel chair access. We'll be back for more.

Love carrigans,, great food and great service...absolutely first class,, I have been here a few times and everytime.the staff are always wonderful

Good food as usual but the service was unusually slow tonight. My main problem is the portion size is way too big. I want to come in for a 3 course meal bit always only have a main. The food waste in this chain of restaurants must be massive. The prices are fine so they could easily reduce the portions and make more money from selling more courses.

Amazing food amazing portion size amazing value. Absolutely loved our visit here with its warm and welcoming atmosphere and the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Will visit again.

This is an average place and the décor is looking a little tired but for a quick meal out then it is fine but has some negatives. On arrival we stood waiting for some time as no one was on the desk, we were then shown to our comfy table as described by the hostess which had a bench and 2 chairs. I can assure you the bench is far from comfy!! Waitress was over very quickly to take our order and the food was good. Serving though could be a little better as my cutlery was just handed to me and I had to wait about 20 min to get the can of coke I had ordered, I had to ask twice for it to arrive and I had almost finished my starter before I got it so not great. When we had finished then again we had to wait around 20 min before anyone came near us to ask for the bill. As I stated it is fine for a quick meal out but if it is a more special occasion then I would choose somewhere else.

I visited with my daughter to celebrate her birthday. We booked a table and once seated waited 5 or so minutes to give a drinks order. We then ordered a main meal each. I ordered the Caledonian chicken and my daughter a pizza. We waited just shy of 45 minutes for the food. My daughter’s pizza was well cooked. My food was cold. The chicken was hot but the veg was cold and the sauce had no heat at all. The plate also had burnt chips on it when usually this meal comes with mash/new potatoes. I sent it back and the man who took the plate didn’t seem all that fussed or apologetic. I’ve never sent a meal back before so unsure if this is standard? My daughter was almost finished her pizza when my meal came back out. I finished my dinner which was nice, but by then I was so annoyed that we were by that point sat for an hour that it wasn’t the most enjoyable. I ate my dinner and went to pay. We had planned to have a main and dessert each but the service was too slow, my daughter was bored waiting by the time I had finished my dinner and asked if she could just go home to have some cake there instead. The man who took my payment made no apology for the state of the service, didn’t ask us if we enjoyed our meal, don’t even think I got a thanks from him. He’s not doing much positive for then business. For a birthday celebration meal…it sucked. For that reason I won’t be back and I used to come here regularly. Not sure what has happened to the place but from reviews I can see it’s not been a one off. Such a shame.

We were ushered to our table as soon as we arrived and althuogh the retaurant was very busy service was excellent. The menu was very extensive with a good choice and not too pricey. I am gluten free and I had no trouble in selecting suitable dishes. All our food was well prepared and delicious. We will be back!

Fantastic night (as usual). Food is amazing and large portions. The staff are all great, especially Chris who was fantastic with our 2 year old grandson. Nothing was too much trouble for him. Looking forward to going back.

Was ok. Reminded me of a typical chain type restaurant attached to a hotel. Food was ok and we were well looked after by the staff. Felt the price didn’t quite reflect the quality of the food but wasn’t terrible

Very busy but the staff were lovely, I had steak pie and chips, the chips were rock hard as if they had been reheated, I told my server this and he said he would let them know in the kitchen but nothing more was said about the matter, disappointing as I usually love the food

Great fresh food. Staff are great. Our family go on a regular basis as its affordable for most people and has a good selection to suit most tastes.

My review of 3 out of 5 was down to waiting lengthy time for main course, staff shortages were probably the main reason as we had one waiter that served us but didn't seem to concerned when I challenged him on the 15-20 min wait for dessert for children when it was only ice cream from children menu,even when he removed main course dishes he never offered a dessert menu for us ,we had to wait another 10 min for him to appear in area to ask him for dessert menu Meals were good when they arrived,so a decision was made not to leave a tip , been to other Carrigans in area which staff were much more quicker and attentive Poor show Carrigans!!

We love Cardigans!! Consistently good food and always great service. We visited yesterday for an Easter lunch and got the usual amazing food and service. Cannot fault this place and already looking forward to going back.

I went here for lunch with my wife for lunch .we had great service as soon as we walked in the door.food was excellent and really good portion size .Will definitely be returning in the future.

Online booking system very efficient. Staff also efficient and excellent as usual. Food great and generous helpings. Usually a salmon fillet in other restaurants are small but my salmon serving was large and plentiful. Very tasty too. Thoroughly recommend.
