The best breakfast I've had in years. Quality is phenomenal, especially the square sausage! Egg cooked to perfection and we both left very full and satisfied. If you're passing through Douglas take a break and grab a bite to eat, you'll not regret it!

Always decent food at a decent price! Sure they sometimes have trouble in getting some products in stock but it's not the fault of the cafe, it's the suppliers!

Very disappointed. My family enjoy the food served but there is always shortages. Phoned today to place an order for chicken gujeons. Said they ran out on Saturday but still hadn't replaced them or made sure they were stocked up so they didn't run out. There was also no fish, no chicken nuggets and no macaroni so I was very limited as to what I could order. This has happened on a few occasions. Very disappointed and hesitant about ordering again.

Fantastic little cafe and Takeaway. Friendly staff, nice food. Well priced. Be quick or the soup runs out. They also do lots of fundraising for a brain tumour charity.

Great little cafe, tucked behind the garage in Douglas, great selection, very welcoming, exception value. Typical cafe type of food, exactly as expected. Highly recommended to refuel the car and yourself.

The food is exceptional with more than reasonable pricing - staff are kind, apparocable and welcoming. There are amazing choices of milkshakes, hot and cold drinks, deserts and many more which are a great assett to the cafe. Will definitely be returning!

I came across this place on my way back from Killoch, the place is a little gem, well priced and tasty food. I arrived just before a hoard of school kids arrived (Just in time for me) they well very polite and well manned, I would guess the local school does not have any kitchen. Will return again next time I am in the area.

We were looking for a hot drink and a coffee... saw the sign and popped in. Food and drink were excellent... staff friendly and the prices extremely reasonable. Only issue I had was that the table we were on had been used before we sat down and YES the staff cleared it but the did not clean it. We had to do this. Accepted it's a transport cafe... but there are standards.

While driving north to the Highlands I popped off the M74 to revisit my my home village of Douglas and have a bit of breakfast at the Crossburn Kitchen, which is a tidy cafe just behind the petrol station on Ayr Road. This isn’t a tearoom in the modern, twee style and is completely different from the celebrated Scrib Tree coffee house round the corner. CK is more of the transport cafe/chip shop genre and offers something entirely different. From the good menu of hot meals, snacks, sandwiches etc. I chose the big breakfast which was substantial and pretty good. The square sausage was from the local butcher and was top class. At £5.50 including hot drink, it represents tremendous value, and service was friendly and efficient. Overall my instinct was to give an average rating, but in view of the excellent value and the superb sausage I’ll give it 4 stars.

Thanks to trip advisor found here, which is literally two miles off the main road to the North. Lovely ladies looking after us. Only slight problem we had was pricing, menu said big breakfast on menu with drink as £5.50, that’s what we had. At the till charged £7.00. Which in fairness was still great value. Brilliant breakfast at the end of the day plenty, very good. Will not hesitate to call again.

Excellent no fuss Cafe. Cooked fresh to order and reasonably priced too. Service with a smile from this slightly hidden away venue that can often get missed by travellers on the A70.

A lovely cafe with a reasonably priced menu. Friendly staff who made a fuss over the kids (7 & 4years). Food was really good and nicely presented. Lots of parking right outside. Nice place to fuel up after a walk in the fresh air round the beautiful countryside locally. We'll definitely be back.......

The Gillespie Centre is based in a refurbished former church building in the centre of the town and aside from the café the building is used for many community events. It’s operated by Biggar Kirk and most, if not all of the staff are volunteers. The café hours are limited to the earlier part of the day (10am - 2.30pm or thereabouts) so best to check online. It’s self-serve and a bright and modern setting. When we last dropped in it was very busy and noisy in the main area of the café. I guess a kid’s club or some such event had recently finished and consequently there were lots of adults and children having lunch. The other section which overlooks the High Street was fully occupied so we just had to embrace the noise level. As we had our grandchildren with us at the time it was probably a good distraction for them to be amongst their peers. The menu consists of soup, sandwiches, paninis, etc and there is usually a nice selection of cakes. The kids had a cheese toastie with a salad garnish & coleslaw (£5) and a filled ham roll (£3) along with cartons of apple juice (£1) so it’s not an expensive outing. My wife and I had Brie & Cranberry Paninis (£5.70) which were also served with a salad garnish & coleslaw. We all had a cake to finish off - sponge with icing, plain scone and paradise slice all reasonable priced between £2.20 - £2.50. The food was very good (and inexpensive by today’s standards) and the staff serving were local and very pleasant so it’s easy to recommend. I’m sure it has quiet moments at times.
