Doesn’t matter what you think of the policies of the owning brewery as this is an unusual, old, special pub. Yes it can get stupidly ‘rammed’ in good weather but at other times it’s a treat to visit.

The Roman Bath Pub is a great city centre pub that always a joy to drop into. This is a really interesting looking pub,interior is superb,an island style serving bar,great decor and furnishings,tv's to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options,the most distinctive feature of the pub is the great artwork around the walls depicting scenes of Roman life alluding to the Roman museum in the basement ,it's a proper chill out pub. We were here on a Monday evening,pub was busy,we ordered John Smiths Brewery bitter ,served in pristine condition,we just kicked back and took in the great pub we were in. I enjoy a good bitter,a much underrated beer style but when served iced gold as in this pub it's a totally refreshing brew. We both really enjoyed our visit here ,only stayed for one each before we moved on. The Roman Bath Pub is easy to locate on St Sampsons Square. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday,open from 11am. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

We met up here as it was convenient for the walk into central York. Staff friendly enough but my coffee was the poorest I have ever purchased. It didn't even smell like coffee and cost £2.50 . I really prefer not to give a review like this to a small business but as a minimum. My partner had tea (also £2.50) and this was also undrinkable. We drank about a half cup each and left the rest. Unfortunately cannot recommend to anyone. Really shocking for York.

While looking for a cleared table, most of the tables still had used plates and cups on them but there was only 2 staff on but not that busy, one lady was serving and the other one was clearing the tables, she then used the same sweeping brush on the table that she had been using on the floor, she never sprayed or wiped the table! After serving they both sat down at a table talking I’m assuming having a break, while there were still dirty uncleared tables.

Pedí cafés, luego descubrí que el inodoro estaba bloqueado y que el inodoro para discapacitados estaba siendo ocupado por alguien que no sonaba muy bien. Reporté a ambos al personal, que asintió y sonrió.
