The coffee ☕️ is excellent here, and the staff service is outstanding. However, the queue at peak times plus the waiting time let this cafe down. Creating 2 permanent queues, having 2 tills permanently staffed along with 2 drinks stations permanently staffed would perhaps help.

Cafe team at Mark and Spencer is an absolute shambles, I’ve seen a tall blonde woman making comments nasty ones about her colleagues I think her name is Sarah. It’s an absolute disgrace to the “team”

Coffee and scone Wednesday March 13 time 8.30 parliament street york Coffee was fine .Had to wait 10 mins for a fresh scone to be brought upstairs . No problem in the wait ,scone not fresh dry old .says on big sign in store fresh baked each day in store ,came in a pack of 4 in cellophane . I won’t be coming for a scone again ,very poor ,advertisement not accurate

We were visiting Marks & Spencers, so thought we would have a lunch time snack. We both chose a Pesto, cheese & tomato toasties. We got our drinks, but then waited 45 minutes for the Toasties. When they came they were still in their paper packing, there was no salad garnish, not even a knife & folk! By that time we had finished our hot drinks. It was our first & LAST visit. It was difficult to get a clean table, we felt it was more like a cattle market & very expensive for what we got

If you want a decent coffee then go to one of the coffee chains on site. Staff need training in making hot non dairy drinks. Barely warm so asked for new ones that were hot. Eventually got them replaced and were now warm but the person that brought them felt the need to lecture/mansplain that non dairy drinks can’t be made hot! Starbucks, Costa, Caffè Nero but to name a few are all capable of making hot non dairy drinks and even capable of making them extra hot! More training in how to make the coffees they offer rather than putting people on that don’t really know how to make anything other than just coffee.Coffee was spilling all over the sides. Really not good and wouldn’t return or recommend.

Popped here while shopping for a rest and lunch. There was a queue, but this moved quickly and we were soon seated with our food and drinks. Got a nice window table in the corner and we're soon enjoying pur food. My friend opted for a salad while I opted for the seasonal toastie. All washed down with a cup of tea. Good value for money, good food and friendly staff. Only let down were that tables were not cleared and cleaned quickly enough. But putting this down to how busy it was for a Tuesday in the Christmas season!

Called for coffee lunch time, wrong. Long que’s no tables cleaned only two staff taking payment and making drinks and they keep wandering off. Customers waiting long times for food. I appreciate present lack of staff but this is very poor for such a major company. I am sure some staff from other departments could be diverted to ease the congestion or close it down.

Long queue. Inefficient. Tills poorly staffed. Food poor. Ciabattas filled with dry chicken or fish fingers, looked like they had been kept warm for the lunch time rush. Plastic sachets which were difficult to open. Won’t be eating here again.

¡Desde hace algunos años, un viaje semanal al café de Vangard York para tomar el té de la tarde es imprescindible para nosotros! . . . así que cuando llamamos hoy, todo estaba a distancia y el personal trabaja muy duro para asegurarse de que se lleve a cabo con precisión. . . . ¡Teníamos sándwiches y crema coagulada y mermelada de bollos frescos! . . . el bollo todavía estaba un poco caliente y tan delicioso que no podíamos dejar de sonreír. . . . ¡Las mesas se limpian constantemente y wendy, que siempre tiene una sonrisa y pregunta cómo estamos siempre! ¡Eso es un servicio al cliente genuino para ti! . . . ¡Gracias por otra gran experiencia! . . . Tuve unas semanas ocupadas, así que estaba ansioso por nuestro viaje a m & s para tomar el té de la tarde. . . Sue y yo nos dirigíamos al café cuando nos detuvimos con sus opciones. Nos cuidaron muy bien y encontramos los mejores marcos de gafas, ¡también pedí gafas de sol! Celebramos con el té de la tarde, no me decepcionó. . . El personal siempre sonríe incluso cuando está tan ocupado, pero eso es porque es el mejor té de la tarde, a un precio excelente. . . He visto otros comentarios aquí que no me parecen verdaderos. Hemos estado viniendo aquí durante 3 años de forma regular y nunca he tenido nada de qué quejarse. Excelente personal, excelente servicio, excelente ambiente. . . así que me gustaría felicitar al personal, ya que son la columna vertebral de la cafetería y nos gustaría que todos lo supieran. ! ! ?? I don’t know why I come here. The teacups are never clean and always stained and often chipped. One time I had the scrambled eggs with smoke salmon and they were so dry. Everything comes in to microwave is what I was told. They should do better it’s not that hard!

Visité York M&S cafe arriba hoy - experiencia muy decepcionante - pedimos x 2 tostadas muy caras a las 4. 50 cada uno y x 2 tazas de té que solo se calentaron al alto precio de 13El servicio consistía en dos empleados miserables hasta que no hubo conversación o interacción con los clientes, de hecho era vergonzoso para M&S, las tazas de té tuvieron que cambiarse dos veces debido a las manchas de té y los cubiertos estaban sucios y las mesas muy sucias. Tuve que limpiar nuestra mesa nuevamente. no los estándares que esperaría de un M&S, de hecho, una visita muy decepcionanteM&S está cayendo, o tienes a los empleados desencadenantes, es cuestionable

My friends and I often come to the Vangard cafe in york for afternoon tea... You will not find a better fruit scone any where... Janice and all her staff are always so pleasant and helpful... this was my mums favourite place to come before she passed away... On what would have been her 91st birthday we went to celebrate in the cafe and the staff set the table with a cloth and served us our tea in tribute to their regular favourite old lady who they would all pop over to say hello and ask how she was... mum felt special and that pleased me so we continue to come most weeks and Janice and her staff, who work so hard because it's so popular, always have a smile and ask how we are... That is what I call, excellent customer service!!! Toni Guildford

Tried both the breakfast bun and the full breakfast, both were excellent and freshly made. Much better than some other establishments.

A Saturday lunchtime. We had to wait almost 20 minutes just to get served. The one cooked item was baked potato. It took another 25 minutes to appear. Not very nice and with the minimum of topping which made it overpriced. We won't go again.

Cafe’s located on top floor of the store and has a large seating area which feels light and airy. Hot food is ordered at the till area and table served (you’re given a location device which docks on your table to assist servers).

Nunca estamos decepcionados con el servicio, y el costo es la mitad del precio de cualquier otro lugar en el que he estado. ! ! . El personal es cálido y amable, constantemente limpiando mesas y preguntando si todo está bien. En comparación con m & s en Harrogate, no pueden ser golpeados, como descubrimos esta semana. . . No nos importa esperar 5 minutos para sentarnos, pero fue de 15 a 20 minutos en Harrogate, el servicio fue deficiente, la disposición de los asientos dejó mucho que desear, casi uno encima del otro y un ambiente totalmente diferente. ! ! I visited here for a pot of tea and a cheese scone. First floor cafe, so you can look out of the window at the surroundings. Actually I was impressed.

we called last week and my wife fancied a gf bacon butty but the staff told us they could not do one ,it seems they could sell us a breakfast with a gluten free roll but they could not do a gf bacon sandwhich will not be returning any time soon m+s have gone down in my estimation

My friends and I continue to visit m&s; vangard cafe!!! After the passing of my mother whom I came with the last few years. It's so lovely of the staff there to come over to say hello, as they knew mum well and ask how I'm doing!!! We enjoyed many an afternoon tea and can say the service, attention to detail and warmth for the very busy staff, is second to none. I will be a lifetime visitor and that's down to Janice and her team, and the best afternoon tea in York... Toni Guildford...

Called in whilst shopping with my wife and granddaughter and have to say we were pleased with what was on offer. Prices were reasonable and despite being busy they have a good order system which electronically pinpoints your table making delivery of your order very easy. Food choices were good and similarly there was a good choice of beverages in sizes of your choice. Decaf coffee was very good.

Popped here for a drink while shopping in store. A small wait in the queue while our drinks were made was made pleasant while chatting to the serving staff. Coffee was good and strong and matched any highstreet chain. Plenty of customers already there and plenty more queuing to get served. Nice cafe with lots of light, with everyone wanting a window seat.

It was with sadness that I took a visit to the vanguard cafe this month. I had to deliver the news that my mother had passed away... The staff at vangard had been so kind to my 90 year old mother every time we visit the cafe. They were personaly upset by my sad news... this makes my trips to the cafe so special to have our usual afternoon tea!!! Theyre so hard working yet always had time to get mum a cushion because of arthritis on her spine, and make sure she was comfortable.. I will continue my visits every week with friends to keep mums memory of her very much loved visits!!! A big thanks for donating the cushion they'd bought mum for her visits!!! Just the best staff ever...with affection Toni...xxx

My Americano coffee was good as was the service, Unfortunately, the overall café experience left much to be desired. My table, along with many others, needed urgent cleaning. The chairs were filthy due to previous customers leaving much of their food on them. Why some people leave such a disgusting mess, I just do not know. I had to wipe both the table and a couple of the chairs before being able to sit down in relative comfort. I hope this is a one off, but somehow, I very much doubt it.

I would appreciate it if you could not put cheese in all your toastie.I am allergic to cheese.You gave me a voucher to use on a toastie,I asked if there was an alternative ,but was told no as the till wouldn't let it go through !!!!!

Great lunch some of the dishes were not available so was disappointed but had a wonderful salad and its was really good value for money

My wife and I often use the cafe in M&S; at the Vanguard Center Monks Cross with a large degree of satisfaction. However,. I have commented previously that when it is busy the system they have of serving drinks and food leaves a lot to be desired, as it is by no means a speedy service in the way it is operated.

So our last trip to the cafe at Vangard york till the new year... afternoon tea really good with seasonal new sandwiches, superb scones, that good we went to the food store to by more... wishing all the lovely helpfull staff a very happy Christmas...

The only downside is that this Café is very popular, so queuing to order and pay can take some time. However, my Cheese Scones and Orange Hot Chocolate were worth the wait. Comfortable seating, and Car Parking (though time limited) is free.

We love going to Vangarde Park and one of the reasons is having afternoon tea here. One cannot beat it for the price and the quality.The choice offered is really good and we have had other meals, which like other M&S; cafes are excellent. I see from other reviews that customers complain of queues. All I can say is that the food and drink is worth waiting for and customers have the choice of going elsewhere, paying more and not being as satisfied.

We were shopping in Marks and Spencer's today and decided to have coffee and cake in the cafe. The queues were quite long and not helped by the cashier serving slowly and inefficiently. Also no one seemed to be clearing the tables! I had to move debris from our table and it wasn't wiped before we started eating because there were no staff on the floor at this point. Quite a number of other tables had dirty dishes strewn over them. Prior to leaving a 'supervisor' seemed to be taking things in hand and started to move the empty dishes through the system. At this point three staff members had arrived in the corner and were tackling a huge pile that had built up. Not terribly professional and not what you want to look at as a customer.

I take my mother most weeks to vangard cafe. The staff are always so helpfully and Wendy always gets mum a fusion to sit on as she severe arthritis on her spine. Wonderful cheery staff make our visit perfect. Mum will be celebrating her 90th birthday there next week... so we would like to thanks all staff for making our day so lovely...Thankyou Toni and Valerie...

The staff who work here are so lovely helpful and hardworking but the queues are horrendous as there just isn’t enough of them ..... I waited 15 minutes this afternoon at 15.15 for two coffees and two scones but the supervisor announced that there would be a 20 minute wait for any hot food including toasted tea cakes. I was also under the impression that there was a deal on drinks and scones which should be £3.50 but this didn’t come up on my till receipt and I had lost the will to live by this time ..... signage of deals is poor and I couldn’t find this on line ..... sorry M&S; but this is not an isolated problem ..... you have such a good facility here which really needs some improvements

Whenever in the store we always pop into the cafe for tea and an iced and spiced fruit bun. Excellent!! Staff are pleasant and helpful. There is a good selection of cakes and scones. Can't fault.

Visited yesterday and ordered 2 full breakfasts and a jacket potato with coronation chicken. We were looking forward to these meals and thinking we would have good quality meals with it being M&S; . Well we couldn't have been more disappointed!!!! The breakfast products were of very poor quality very strange poached eggs a bit on the slimy side. For £7.95 would have expected much better. The jacket potato looked as if it had been kept luke warm all day and the few bits of chicken were brown coloured and a bit grisly mostly not nice white pieces. The sauce was ok. On the plus side the staff were very friendly and service was good. But we won't be going again.

Good coffee at sensible prices, not a place for a special occasion but adequate for a refuel stop. High customer turnover but tables kept clean and tidy.

First visit and was suprised at how big it is, looked a bit like a canteen style. Hard plastic chairs but lots of window seating.

Called in here whilst shopping for a quick cuppa and a scone - scones were delicious really soft and full of fruit, lovely with a bit of cream and some mixed berry jam.

The fish and chips sounded delicious, beer batter, I envisaged light crispy batter. It was hot and that’s the only positive! It was flat, thin and not really like batter at all. It was a child sized portion and the peas were served in an egg cup sized container. Extremely poor value for money and far from the quality one would expect from Marks & Spencer.

We have been to this cafe lots of times and been satisfied but I feel compelled to write about today's experience. First of all there were no teacakes (don't they sell them downstairs in the shop?). Then we were REFUSED a pot of extra hot water (as one of us likes our tea weak) so had to take the teapot back (after removing teabags) and ask them to partially empty it and refill it with hot water. The milk container had no lip so spilt everywhere. OK the cafe was quite busy but they should have enough crockery to serve everyone with some extra. I sometimes think M&S; is trading on a reputation which it is doing a fine job of irreparably damaging. I'm being generous with 3/5 to take account of previous, better, experiences.

It was the first time we had been here so decided on a breakfast. The cafe is clean and spacious and Busy. The staff behind the counter where friendly enough, however I think the breakfast is very expensive at £7.95 For what you get, 1 sausage which was bland, 2 anemic n very dry bits of bacon, mushrooms which were tinned, 2 x tomato’s which were ok, 2 eggs which the be fair were cooked lovely and 4 little slices of toast, I had to pay an extra £1.00 for beans which again were tasteless and I had to ask for butter ( surely they would put it on the side) we were told we couldn’t alter the breakfast at all apart from adding the beans for £1.00. Then we had to pay extra for coffee making it over £10.00 per breakfast which quite frank was below average. The only reason I didn’t give it 2 stars was because my husband ordered Hot Chocolate with his and he really enjoyed it. So much so we wanted to buy some from the food court, they however, didn’t have any in stock so a little disapointing. Would I eat here again? No, but if was that way over I may call in for a coffee n hot chocolate. There are far better places to eat for better value for money

Nicely set out, very clean looking with the usual marks and Spencer's food. It can get busy over lunch but usually is ok.

Usual good quality m and s food. Quick bites eaten rather than meal. Good value came with a baby plenty of high chairs

Morning,Friday Sept 8, four coffee machines available ,two working and,two queues of at least twenty four frustrated customers, waiting!.

Called for refreshment while on a shopping trip during a torrential thunderstorm. Wide panoramic views (over the car parks) showed the ferocity of the storm to best advantage. I've never been a fan of Fairtrade coffee but M&S; make a reasonably tasty one and my wife's cappuccino did not take too long to make up (take note Costa! You take forever). The cafe is quite large and this leads to a lack of intimacy that you might find in a small independent coffee shop. The staff seemed very cheerful - always the sign of a happy ship. There are clean, fresh toilet facilities adjacent to the cafe entrance.

This is a fairly new building so bright and airy, fairly wide selection of the usual food on offer, with decent coffee too. Service is quick and efficient. Fills a gap in the market at the site which has a wide selection of restaurants and cafes.
