Decent place to stay, our room wasn't one used in the pics but it was still decent enough, the shower was pretty rubbish mind, would stay again no issues.

Actually hate to complain but I came here today with some friends and the waiter spilt 5 drinks on me !! Totally understand accidents happen and was super polite to the guy but the service after wasn’t good enough. The guy came bag for towels for the floor, nothing for me (and I was SOAKED), - had to ask for napkins etc whilst the drinks pooled in my dress, there was no proper apology or money off the drinks/ another drink offer and none of the other waiters acknowledged this or checked in just came and asked if we wanted to buy more drinks! It was that much beer spilt that I’ll need to pay for my shoes to be cleaned etc and had to spend my whole day & night around York smelling of beer and trying to dry off !!! Unfortunately this was our first stop on a long day ☹️

The service was fine from a young man, he told me there was a 45 mins wait which was acceptable for me. Now to the food - it wasn’t good - the toasted ciabatta wasn’t toasted or it was cold. The chicken was overwhelmed with the taste of pesto, mixed with very slimy mozzarella. The chips felt like they’d been cooked and left to go cold. Overall - poor food avoid!

Beautiful bar. Busy summer Saturday so was slightly crazy but the wonderful Ben looked after us. He was a superstar dealing with a little niggle but hands down sooo helpful. All staff were amazing dealing with everyone who had been day drinking. Well done guys x

I've had Yorkshire fish and chips before, so I wasn't expecting them to be so greasy. The batter was light, the fish a little bland, the chips were good, but they could've spent an extra ten minutes draining off the oil. We sat at an outside table and enjoyed a perfect day, so we can't complain like we want to.

After sending emails which they had never answered to cancel my booking(one month in advance), because unfortunately I've got sick and I needed a surgery. So, I decided to give a call and the receptionist wasn't really helpful telling me that I could cancel it through the website(which is not true).. I couldn't,so I gave up because of my condition due I was already in pain, I couldn't even think about that. I've lost money and time, thank you so much for your help!!

Great location and lovely friendly staff but Sammi was a stand out. I was surprised that she wasn't head waitress or manager as she was helping other staff & smoothing service every time we were there (stayed 2 nights & multiple meals) highly recommend

The service is terrible and slow, no professional manner at all. The food and drink are awful and I have asked to toast the sandwich but are told that the food has to be served cold. It ruins my day and mood at York. I would never come to York for visit again.

Slow disinterested service. Sign said there was a meal offer, which didn't apply outside. Requested refund after an hour of waiting, was told then it would be 3 minutes. 10 minutes later still no food, a forgotten order. 2 other places close by which I would suggest must be better than this place

Service terrible, long wait times for attention from arriving to leaving. Asked 3 times for table to be cleansed of previous customers ketchup. Lunch finally arrived and placed on still dirty table! After some waiting and food going cold staff eventually came and smeared the ketchup with dry blue roll 🤣 When challenged about tables not cleaned between customers as Covid is still around and should be wiped better perhaps even disinfected, he replied “we always disinfect between customers”. When asked how the disinfecting missed such a blob of ketchup he glowered, spun quickly away and marched off!! Presumably to report us to Basil Fawlty…. Get a grip Waterside management, good times won’t last forever with this poor customer service and more important good hygiene. Which makes me wonder if front of house not kept clean how is the inside😱….

Booked a double room for a last minute York trip, traveling as 2 adults. Overall the location in late Spring and Summer would be amazing as it's literally right on the river plus theres a pub with outdoor seating just a stumble away. The staff checking us in that evening were friendly and helpful, but having to come in through the pub was an slightly uncomfortable experience. There were intoxiated men asking us questions like how long we were staying, etc. While it may seem "harmless" we did choose to enter and exit only through the non pub entrance for the remainder of our stay. Pros: Room was clean and welcoming. Kettle, plenty of towels, etc. While smaller, the room had a lovely view of the River. The seperate entrance was nice to come and go without having to go through the pub. Cons: There was not a spare blanket in the room, so by the time we returned for the night the desk was closed. So ask for extra blankets/towels at check in if you think you will need it. Be aware that while the river location is lovely in theory theres 2 main things that may ruin the experience: major flooding and the fact that super early (before 8am) there will be people rowing on the river. So if you're a light sleeper the callig will wake you as it did me. Be advised this is not an easily accesible stay. The stairs are very steep and winding. Overall solid option if you're booking last minute and need a clean room.

Sunday lunch, ordered the beef and it was inedible when it arrived had a really strange perfumey taste as if the meat had started to go off the staff were very helpful and swapped it for a pork lunch that was also very perfume to the taste and we suspect was also off, don't recommend anyone goes here. And refused a refund, came out and went to Greg's for food with out the poisoning

The room which was number 1 was appalling … it was dirty the curtains were hanging down … bathroom door wouldn’t close properly. Shower either scolded you or froze you . No toilet roll holder …. Nowhere to hang anything up in bathroom … but worst of Al, was that the heating wasn’t working so we were freezing . We told them of the problem and 4 hours later they brought us a tiny little heater 🤣🤣 The toilet seat moved when you sat on it There was a fireplace in the room with a mantle such caught my partners arm every time he tried to get past it as it was so close to the bed . Hairdryer broken Complaints were made of these problems but the staff seemed very unconcerned as they were sat at the bar just chatting with each other. I certainly won’t be booking this accommodation again and would never recommend it to anyone else.

It was in the later hours of the afternoon that I came here, beset by rain and its consort, the flooding of streets. Unconvinced by the cleansing given unto me by the heavens i did dain to use the bathing facility provided herein. Twas folly, but i knew not. For as i tendered the rising temperature of this shower I failed to imagine. I did not contemplate if the temperature would not abate. That it would keep rising, steaming my room into a veritable sauna while rending flesh from bone in its twisted plumb-heart. As i began to rinse and shampoo my locks, worn and straggled from the day's travel, i noticed that this unforseen fate had set upon me. That like the lobotomised frog of the victorian scientist, I too was to be scalded against my immediate recognition. I fumbled with the controls, desperate to bring back the temperature at which I knew peace, but minutes of study did not lend me the needed information to parse this ancient device. It was determined to reach some terrifying zenith (or perhaps nadir!) in which i wanted no part. Stepping from the shower, I realised that i must rinse my hair before i was free of this brimstoney lava spout. Dipping in and out, in fear of burns i attempted to anoint myself in the flames, develop some resistance and leap through fire to be done with the upkeep of my hair. Each lashing was caustic, leaving lasting marks of pain on my temple,. The steam as it rose sweltered the room, fogging each and every surface in a dew with the rancid texture of rough tripe. I was undeterred, desperate to cleanse my hair of the shampoo i had so brazenly lathered upon it before learning of my fate. I swung my head forward into the stream of satan's micturition, and it slapped forward into both my eyes, smudging the blasted shampoo in and causing my pain to multiply as i doubled over - right into the godless fire. Desperate to flee, I pawed for a handhold, but my hands did connect not with any such thing, and slipped wildly through the agony pool which collected around my near-deafeated corpse-in-waiting. I turned 360 degress around and made for the tap, and with some degree of struggling was able to arrest the water flow. It was at this point I decided to wash my hair in the sink instead. 5/5 wonderful amenities and great central location. Shower needs fixing probably.

Stayed in lots of places in York,Deans Court,Malmaison,Hilton etc. This place is an absolute nightmare.Freezing cold as the heating doesn’t work properly. The shower has two settings, freezing or burn your skin off hot!!With the hotel being part of a pub we got back to the pub for a drink before we went to our room. This was Monday evening about 9pm.When we walked in there was a group of lads sat at a table with the young lad in charge.Told us we couldn’t have a drink because the bar was closed(it’s a pub).Music was blaring but I asked him for a heater as it was so cold the night before. He said no problem I’ll fetch you one up to your room.Waited 20 minutes and went back down to find him still sat with hid mates.Oh sorry he said I’ll bring it straight up when he finds one.Eventually did.I asked him if he could turn the nightclub sound system down as we couldn’t hear the television,he said ok.That never happened. To top it all off open drug deals going on outside.Cheap place but please avoid at all costs.

Wow what a disappointment. We were looking forward to our stay here, however the room was a total let down. The room is nice but the hair dryer didn't work and the shower, well let's say you'd be better going outside in the rain to get a wash. The staff are friendly and the location is great. It's expensive for what it is and I would look for a refund if I could be bothered. Checked out at 9.30 as we just couldn't stay there any longer to wait for the bar downstairs to open for breakfast at 10am. Never again

Fantastic place with an old feel to it but in the perfect location possible in my opinion as it's next door to everything, the shambles, dungeon, river, bridge, car parks only a 2 minute walk, food and shops. I recommend this place but don't expect an ultra modern hotel, this is a listed building and feels like an old B&B which is what it should feel like in an old treasure like York. We love staying here and will be booking many more times ahead. Don't rule out this quirky little gem without trying it yourself.

Visited for lunch and were told we had to sit inside as we were using a taste card. Couple of us had the Philly steak baguette served with side salad, onion rings and chips but baguette was quite dry and onion rings were wattery. Bit pricey for some things on the menu.
