Starbucks in York

The dirtiest I have ever been in please avoid ok for take away staff mostly don’t care except for Trayvon people where cleaning up themselves

Rude staff member who basically threw our drinks at us as she couldn’t reach the table top that well due to being ‘proportionately challenged’. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks even though it wasn’t busy. To top it all off our two drinks were covered in cream on the outside of the cups and when we asked for a napkin (the holder was empty) we were told that they don’t have any. Unusual to have this experience in a Starbucks but we will definitely be going to the Costa across the road next time.

I needed to leave my bike outside where the outdoor seating is, so downloaded their app and ordered on it, popped my head through the door and the barista guy very kindly said don’t worry - I’ll bring yours out to you, stay where you are. I really appreciate stuff like that, thank you.

Biggest rip off going £5.70 for a small glass filled with ice and supposedly coconut flavour .brother got Mango .no taste at all .and such slow service.shall never be back

Absolutely ridiculously slow service today! Nobody here and yet the staff couldn't keep up! 30mins and still no sign of my drink!!

Excellent coffee but not busy and tables not cleared. Also toilet paper in disabled toilet in accessible to anyone let alone a disabled person.

Stopped here to grab some lunch for my family on a busy Saturday. Service was okay and lady that served us was friendly. However whilst waiting for our sandwiches and coffees to be heated/made I noticed she was coughing and sputtering all over the place. She eventually went around the corner and had a huge coughing session. I was concerned at the time that our food would be infected as she had no mask. Six days on my daughter and myself have an awful cold. We are always very careful with hygiene so I strongly suspect this was the source. Sick people should not be preparing food!

Terrible service Waiting 20 minutes and completely ignored while others who came in and ordered after us were served; and when we asked why we waiting so long we were given a dirty look and fobbed off. Wanted to use toilets but they were out of order, no sign on the outside door or inside and when asked was told to use the toilets in the cinema across the road. The cinema said they were sick of Starbucks sending people over without asking and that the toilets were for their patrons only. One star only for the coffee Would not recommend

Needed to go to the toilets,I’m giving 2 stars as the locks worked and they were there.However they really weren’t clean,they were absolutely filthy and there was a huge leak.They need to get their act together by cleaning the toilets immediately.I would recommend you avoid these toilets and go somewhere else

Toilets utterly disgusting and flooded, unwiped tables, litter. The place was a very unpleasant experience won’t be coming back

Absolutely diabolical. 4 members of staff. One serving, the others too busy doing absolutely nothing. I have never experienced a Starbucks like it. The answer to improving this is to shut it down!

Stopped in here for a quick coffee and lunch on Sunday but service very slow. Thus us only my view but staff seemed more interested in sorting their own lunch out and let the queue go out the door. Customers were coming in the door and either turning round at the lengths of the queue or it was taking forever to get served Very poor service but male member of staff trying his best but with little help

I really hate writing negatives about a place, but I found this coffee house to be terrible. Apart from poor the quality tea. I can only describe it as grubby with dirty surroundings and incleared tables. The service was good, but they appeared to be overworked and understaffed. I had reason to use the toilets and found them to be unchecked with no toilet rolls or hand cleansers.

Cafe was run down and filthy. No atmosphere at all. The toilets were disgusting. The accessible toilet was out of order.

Nipped in for a coffee was a queue in the waiting area so expected a bit of wait but was quite a while which is a shame because it’s always nice coffee.

I ordered & paid for 2 coffees to take away. Unfortunately, it was only after paying that I noticed the queue of people who were also waiting to collect coffee. There were only 2 members of staff, one taking orders and one making them up. We had to stand for about 20 mins to collect our order. The first assistant didn't make us aware of the wait and the second made no apology. There were people waiting everywhere & none of the tables were being cleared during this time. It wasn't the assistants' fault, they were understaffed. A shambles!

Very poor for a Starbucks. We went to Starbucks thinking it would be the standard Starbucks experience where you know what you're getting . As soon as we had paid we realised we had made a mistake in coming because it didn't feel like a nice atmosphere. I still thought it would be ok "because it's Starbucks". It took forever to get two drinks even though it wasn't busy. The seating felt dirty, not comfortable and uncared for. The tables were dirty. I then sent to the toilet. There's only one, but it was dirty, dated, had no toilet paper and just felt like ah awful experience. I'm normally very laid back and see the good side of things, but I just wish we hadn't gone. We were hoping to relax for a while from shopping and watch the world go by, but we couldn't wait to leave. Very, very disappointing.

Since my last review I can honestly say there has been a decline in the standard of the establishment and the cleaness there is only one toilet now avaible for use of Men women disabled and baby changing ! Used cups are left on the tables leaving the customers to clean and dispose of ! The ice machine was still broken so no oced drinks orders were wrong and queues were left waiting for there drinks and food with one or the other arriving before the other ! Again people were complaining over the general standard of cleaness and leaving rather than sitting down as they originally had planned ! I did feel sorry for the staff who were left to take the brunt of the customers complaints but seemed unable to do anything about the situation again no clean cups only takeaway cardboard containers were in use ! Poor standard from a firm like Starbucks whose only saving grace was the coffee ! As you can see cups building up on dirty tables and around the serving area

Service very slow, toilets were awful, only 1 available, no toilet seat and our 12 year old grandson said “the toilet is disgusting, worse I’ve ever used”. Won’t be returning.

Visited here nothing special regarding the coffee, service was OK. The toilets are disgusting, told staff who asked me if they needed attention, I replied they need a jet wash on them ....

A nice building inside, but the service was so slow Average Coffee which is quite expensive. Toilets were awful, dirty and smelly. Central to city area

Lovely quick service, the staff are always friendly and chatty. Only thing I would change is more comfy seats as they’re always taken, apart from that no complaints, Keep up the good work guys.

It took the 2 staff members behind the counter a couple of minutes to notice I was waiting to be served. I asked for a large peach iced tea and it honestly took about 5 minutes to make this 1 drink. The staff didn’t seem very well organised or knew what they were doing. My wife used the toilets which were very dirty and showed little evidence of being cleaned. The drink was nice though

Visited here on the 30th December. My daughter and I visited the toilet which was out of order so we had to use the disabled toilet. It was filthy, the flush was broken and the soap dispenser was hanging from the wall-disgusting! We ordered two paninis which were inedible-runny, greasy cheese with a small piece of ham. I didn’t take them back as the queue was very lengthy and our hot drinks would have got cold so we left them on the table. We will not return here!

Clear you own table and take a filthy chair next to a dirty wall… Prepare to hold onto your bladder for the duration because the toilets are out of order and enjoy your coffee! Magnifique

What a lovely location and a lovely building but Starbucks need to get their act together. The place is dirty throughout. Absolutely no atmosphere at all. Looked around for somewhere cozy to sit being a cold boxing Day. Decided to take away. Used the toilets and felt like I needed a shower afterwords. It was first thing in the morning too.We won't return.

How do Starbucks get away with the disgusting cleanliness of this place. Who is in charge and why are they not sorting it? We managed to find a table which had the last customers dirty crockery on and which was still on the table when I had queued for a good ten minutes and returned with our food and drinks. I moved it on to another table which also hadn’t been cleared. Visited the toilet before leaving. One out of order so quite a queue for the only one that was working. It was extremely dirty and the toilet roll holder broken. Will not visit here ever again.

Service, coffee and breakfast were fine. The cleanliness of everywhere was disappointing. Floors, tables appeared neglected. What let the place down particularly was the state of the wc. This was grubby. The toilet was clean enough but the floor and general cleanliness of the room was dreadful. We were there at 9 in the morning and it had clearly not been cleaned. Won't be visiting again.

Stopped here for some coffees and cakes before we set off around York, service wasa bit slow but everything else was fine.

Absolutely filthy. Flies everywhere, tables full of the last persons crap, the tables that were empty were not wiped down. The sofas were sticky and greasy. The floor was covered in spillages and rubbish. Toilets filthy. Overall just a disgusting establishment that desperately needs an overhaul of staff and a refurb. It’s a really lovely building that is just being wasted. Staff all stood chatting behind the till and have no customer service skills. I felt like I needed disinfecting after leaving and felt disgusted that I had brought my newborn in there too as just wanted a relaxing coffee. Never again.

Went here twice on a recent trip to York with the family. On both occassions, it was very busy but staff were friendly and helpful. The coffee was what you'd expect from a Starbucks - so no complaints. The atmosphere is really gorgeous, there is an amazing ceiling and historic architecture - this isn't your 'typical Starbucks' setting. Can't comment on the toilets but overall a Lovely Setting & Great Coffee

Dirty store, slow service, staff with attitude,no cutlery, toilets our of order. Never again will use in this store. Staff don't care because of location there will always be more visitors to replace the unhappy ones

Currently self isolating due to covid so ordered 2 drinks via uber eats, it took 2.5 hours to come even though the premises is 5 minutes from my house. Seemed like the frappachino had been sat there for an hour, it was no longer icey and the cream that was supposed to be on top resembled a pile of sick. Honestly embarrassing that someone who worked there would let that go to a customer. Proper thought that getting a starbies would cure a bit of covid isolation depression, but actually it's just made it worse. 10/10 would never go again. Thank god uber eats recognised this appalling tripe and refunded us for the order.

Slow to be served, staff didn't listen and kept asking questions which had already been answered. Cleaners month off! Toilets were filthy, the whole place needs a deep clean! Urgh

I was having the worst possible morning, however that changed when barista Ella offered me the best Almond Chai Latte I’ve had in a while. She was super friendly and demonstrated care and attentiveness, despite the plastic screen that deterred us from communicating efficiently. She proved to resolve my issue when I had trouble paying with my card. Wonderful customer service from her and her colleague, who was also as bubbly and friendly.

Well presented and clean. Good signage and clear walkways. The manager very friendly and full of information. A credit.

Great coffee had here and thoroughly enjoyed. The price was reasonable. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

Good SD practice in place here, food and drink is fairly standard for Starbucks and service is with a smile and politeness.

Twenty minute wait for Americano for no apparent reason. Four servers - one making coffee at snail’s pace, the rest chatting and yawning. Unbelievable.

Called in for a coffee today. Given a warm friendly welcome by the young lady who served me. Social distancing was observed and well managed. Coffee was just perfect ( first one since lockdown )

Por lo general, nunca hago una reseña de estas grandes corporaciones porque no creo que las personas visiten Starbucks según las reseñas. Pero solo por si acaso. . . . Vale la pena visitar esta sucursal, no por el café y el personal amable (o que tiene), sino porque tiene el techo más hermoso de cualquier cafetería de la ciudad, quizás del país. Ven y velo por ti mismo. ¡Disfrutar!

Recogí un par de cafés de aquí el 4/7/2020, no pude quejarme de las medidas de distanciamiento social, círculos en el piso donde pararse y sistema unidireccional, encantadoras señoritas amables y felices en el mostrador, buenos consejos sobre el tipos de bebidas para elegir e incluso nos dijeron dónde estaban los baños más cercanos, definitivamente los usaré nuevamente?

Popped in as Harley any queue. Very quick service and loved the coffee. Well done keep up the good work post lockdown.

Took ages to get served and longer to wait for drinks. Staff didn't seen bothered. Plenty ofntother places in York so best avoided!

One of the poorer starbucks, staff with a dont care attitude but 1000's of new customers walking past the door every day so it doesnt matter regarding service or cleanliness with the toilets particularly grim.

Visited store on the 2nd January with our grand children, friendly helpful staff processed our order through quickly and drinks were spot on. Will be returning. Toilets could do with a refresh but it didn’t spoil our visit!!

Very disappointing! Love Starbucks usually.The tables were covered in dirty mugs and papers.Our order was placed and we were told the drinks would have to be in take away cups as there weren’t any normal mugs(they were all on the tables waiting to be collected and washed).The drinks eventually were made.I cleared a full table and we sat for our drinks.My hot chocolate was just warm(once again disappointing).The toilets at this establishment are in no uncertain terms,disgusting.They are dinghy and dirty.Come on Starbucks...get your act together with this establishment.This is not what is expected and I certainly couldn’t recommend a visit here.

Soy un gran fanático de Starbucks y he estado en Starbucks en todo Estados Unidos y en gran parte en el Reino Unido, pero este es el peor de todos. No es solo el peor Starbucks. . . ¡es horrible como una cafetería sola! ! ! Aquí hay algunas cosas mal con eso 1) Es asquerosamente sucio 2) Los baños son horribles (incluso caca manchada en el contenedor de PHS) 3) La comida fue horrible! Tiene un sabor horrible. Iv nunca antes había sabido esto en Starbucks. 4) El bollo de canela era sólido como una roca y seco. Lo retiró y no me disculpé. En cambio, me dieron un crujiente de chocolate y no me dieron la diferencia de precio teniendo en cuenta que el pan cuesta más. ! 5) El personal no era amable en lo más mínimo! ! Y parecía no tener idea de lo que estaban haciendo. 6) Estaba bastante ocupado y uno de los miembros del personal estaba ocupando una mesa llena para él, mientras que algunos clientes no tenían asientos.Es una pena en un lugar encantador como York tener un Starbucks tan espantoso. ¡Realmente te has decepcionado! ! !

Llegamos a las 8 de la mañana, al comienzo del día. Los baños apestaban y estaban muy sucios. No hay papel higiénico en el baño unisex, por lo que tuve que usar el deshabilitado. Las puertas hacia y desde los baños también estaban sucias. No volveremos El personal que prepara los alimentos también limpia los baños. Estoy tratando de no pensar en los estándares de higiene que existen alrededor de los alimentos con estos estándares en los inodoros. Cuando hablé con el personal, el joven detrás del mostrador dijo que no todos tienen la suerte de tener un buen trabajo. ¿Qué tiene eso que ver con esto? !

The food and drink we fine as usual but for such a lovely building, the place looked and was dirty and the toilets were filthy! Won’t be going back

The coffee was ok but this has got to be the dirtiest Starbucks we have ever been to and we have been to many.

Our drinks were served in oversplit cups running all down the sides we also ordered a smoothie when we asked Rachel the drink maker for a straw she just picked it out if the rack and threw it at us . She the continued to bang utensils , cups etc around in her station . Will not return to this Starbucks disgraceful service .

The place feels neglected. We changed tables to avoid an old aircon unit on the wall sending arctic waves across the room although the temperature outside was 16 degrees. We asked the staff kindly to stop it and we were told it cannot be stopped !? What about environment and energy saving? No paper in the toilet overall carelesness...

I went to Starbucks today, staff were alright but they gave me friend the wrong drink, forgot her cake pop and they put a massive ice block at the bottom of her drink so she couldn’t get any out due to the ice.

Its a starbucks so you know what you getting, which I like, but wow this place needs a clean !! I know it gets used LOTS being in central york, but in which case starbucks should step up the amount of cleaning done, this photo is my table 5 mins after store opened 705am, so clearly cleaning not being done properly, disappointing.

Called in this beautiful building on way to station as my daughter wanted a Latte, beautiful building but housekeeping didn’t look too good!

The only thing that moved this review from poor to average was the superlative charm and cheeriness of the staff. I find Starbucks' coffee only slightly coffee-ish, but I was desperate to sit down and everywhere else was packed.

Awful place - we had two hot chocolates. Should be rebranded as tepid chocolate. Desultiry service. Filthy toilets that are clearly not checked regularly. Never again

Staff friendly and coffee was lovely. Tables needed clearing and cleaning which didn’t happen the time I was in here. A lot of people seemed to come in just to use the toilet which when I went was in a disgusting state and needed a good clean only one toilet working too

Staff gave my food to someone else. Then asked me if I’d take the bag of food on the dirty counter, that was open, and had been sat there for an unspecified period of time, with lots of people milling around coughing and sneezing. Hot chocolates were luke warm rather than hot. Was then told I was being rude for asking for my order to be remade. I was incredulous rather than rude and as such have complained to Starbucks UK to see whether staff (one person in particular) need retraining. Costa gets my money from now on.

Arrived in here and was emtey but every table had cups on it on rubbish all over the floor. When we asked staff to ckearva table he said " you have to if you want to stay" we left

Wouldn’t go back even if they were giving the coffee away! The tables were full of rubbish and not cleared or cleaned, the floor - full of wrappers with odd bits of food under the tables and was sticky to walk on. I was served a coffee which was in a sticky cup that had lipstick over it!! The staff did replenish me with a new coffee without any fuss - which was the only plus of the whole experience. Never again.....

First weekend ever in York and my first outing to a northern Starbucks.

Whole place is dirty, the toilet looks like it's not been cleaned all day. Rubbish on the floor, it's not busy at all and the tables have not been cleared. I'll stick to Costa!

Went for a coffee and some cake and so wished we hadn’t bothered , rude couldn’t careless staff, dirty surroundings , poorly cleaned tables , filthy toilets , will never step in this place again AVOID

Came into this story when I was in York last and the service was very slow. The store was a little bit busy plus there was a queue there was only one staff member on coffee and cold drinks while there was only two staff members on till helping each other when really one of them should off asking people in the queue what there wanted and passing them down but no there didn't there just maded the queue build up.

The building itself is beautiful and has potential to be a gorgeous cafe. Unfortunately, it is absolutely filthy. Sofas are stained and dirty, used cups on every table, thoroughly let down.

Called in for coffee last Saturday- had to go to the toilets - queuing- one toilet unisex - not impressed and one toilet for baby changing - decided to wait for the baby changing toilet - it was disgusting had to hold my breath because if the stench - toilets dark and dingy - would not take my dog in for a pee!!!!

Came here for a coffee before the shops opened on Sunday morning. The staff were friendly and we got our drinks quickly. Beautiful old building. The only downside was there was only 1 toilet and the queue was huge!

Stopped here for a couple of coffees and to shelter from the rain and found this to be a quite large establishment with lots of seating. Service was fast, friendly and efficient and place was clean and tidy. Would definitely go again

The place is full of litter and toilets were not clean. Coffee and tea was as good as ever for Starbucks. But the place needs to be kept tidy and appealing - sorry won't rush back

Popped in for a latte really nice but the cafe was dirty,tables needing clearing. Furniture in need of an uplift not much atmosphere as not a comfortable relaxed place to chat. Will not return....plenty more cafes in york to visit instead of this substandard alternative. Staff were friendly though.

This is now the only Starbucks in York Centre after the closure of Stonegate. It is a very busy place on one of York's busiest shopping streets so it will always have a large throughput. It will need careful managing of hygiene based on its footfall.

Staff are rude and very slow always busy talking to each other Drinks take about a week ... Toilets have been closed for about 2 weeks just not acceptable - no longer a customer due to poor standards and service

Loads od table uncleared toilets where dirty. Stuff almost thew coffin at me go to costa instead this is a shame to starbucks name

We visited this Starbucks mid morning for drinks and a snack. It is located on a corner site and has a small outside area which tends to be taken over by smokers. When we were there it was full of people on their laptops and tablets taking advantage of the free wifi. They however did not have any drinks with them so were taking up seats that others who needed them could use. The tables I noticed were cluttered with dirty cups and plates. Toilet wise..what can I say. Very poor and again not very clean. The surfers need to be moved on once they no longer have drinks and the place needs to be kept clean. There are many coffee houses in York that I will use in the future instead of this Starbucks.

I visited this coffee shop yesterday for the first & last time. The shop was filthy, uncleared tables, sloppy service at the counter. My coffee was all slopped down the side of the cup as it was shoved across to me. The chairs in the little snug at the rear of the shop were very dirty. For a popular high street chain I was very disappointed , clearly the management need a lesson on how things should be run. Will definately not return. The staff had no customer skills whatsoever .

Already disappointed to find that our favourite York Starbucks at Coppergate is now closed we ventured to the one in Coney Street. The building is very grand and our visit should have been enjoyable. Unfortunately the place was filthy and although large, only had 2 toilets one of which was out of order. We were told later by a local person that the 2nd toilet has been OOO for some time. Staff as always were excellent but working under great disadvantages. Surprised that the environmental health dept. are not keeping tabs on it.

What should be a lovely building in the centre of York is shabby and dirty inside. The staff themselves were the usual helpful and friendly types you expect from Starbucks but the interior was not. There was one toilet to be shared between both men and women and it was in a terrible state with a wet floor covered in toilet paper. Not the standard you expect from a Starbucks. I will not be returning.
