We had a rather mixed visit here. Lovely setting, clean and welcoming. Top quality food. But the service was mixed which rather affected the pleasure of the visit. First, it is a very small menu. The server did not tell us that some items were not available until after we ordered. The joy of eating out is to chose and anticipate the meal. We like to chose starter and main that will flow well, and choose wine accordingly. So when we were informed after ordering that some items were not available, this was the first hurdle. Then we ordered a French wine, and without any comment, a bottle of Chilean wine was brought. We had to query this. Even worse when a second glass was ordered, it happened again, Chilean was brought again, despite checking with the server whether it really was the wine ordered. (It wasn't) So this had to be queried again. The bill was also incorrect. Whilst everyone was polite, this had the affect of putting us on edge, having to check everything, and left me feeling like a whingy customer. It's a shame for the chefs because the food really was special, and had the server and bar staff been up to that standard it would have been an amazing experience.

Cafe is ok, food and drinks are ok too, but young women who work here need to get it together. We came in a few days ago, it was very quiet and no one was waiting. So imagine our surprise when the three staff just continued chatting and ignored us !! You think that’s bad ? After they eventually took our coffee order, they had the cheek to ask for a tip !!! Unbelievable! ( and don’t say you don’t ask, you push the pay screen at people and say ‘ there’s a question ‘, you look down and it’s asking for a tip, so yeah, you definitely do ) Want a tip ? Then don’t leave customers standing around whilst you s(@g off the boss !!!!

Visited on Mother’s Day with the family, seated in the most beautiful garden you could wish for. Location and scenery is fantastic. We were given menus and the guy came to take order, asked for a san Miguel. ‘We don’t sell that’ was the response, despite it very clearly being on the menu. Cider request was met with similar. Food orders taken also, all without and hint of friendly service or smile. Food arrived after a long wait, we even got up to speak to maitre d at some point as it’d been 45 mins or so for 4 sandwiches. Their only response other than to argue about how long it had been was ‘didn’t the waiter explain there is a 30 minute wait for fresh food? I’ll let him know about that for you’ One of the dishes was a steak ciabatta. It arrived cold, and unappetising. The cheese hadn’t even begun to melt, and the 6 small slivers of steak had been out of the heat for quite some time clearly. Asked to return this and 5 minutes later was bought out again… still cold!! Also missing the onions… called waiter over and asked whether it was meant to be served cold perhaps? He confirmed it wasn’t, so I asked him to remove it and not replace it which he did apologetically. The only person with any customer service in him. The prawn sandwhich was absolutely hilarious too… each slice was over 1.5 inches thick in some corners meaning the sarnie was at least 3 inches high in places… did give us a proper good laugh though. Had to get up to ask for the bill as no one approached our table after that, despite empty glasses etc. Bill was verbal until I requested to see a copy, which was via a small hand held device. I’ve never ever eaten in a restaurant before and been told the bill total and expected to pay it without seeing the breakdown. All in all, bad service, strange cold atmosphere, two poor dishes…. Its the most beauitful location you could ask for. What a shame, should be outstanding!

Where do I start... Our usual breakfast/brunch cafe was fully booked, so thought we would try The Fountain. Ordered two breakfasts and two teas. The breakfast priced at £10.90 was so overpriced for what you got - bacon just a sliver, toast the smallest I have seen, one hash brown (usually get two), baked beans were cold - the only thing on the plate which was excellent was the sausage. The final straw was two teas priced at £2.90 each which was a very large pot of hot water, two tea bags and this made the tea so weak we left it. Great staff, very polite, very clean, but what a disgrace for a breakfast. It seems that if you go in there for a cake and a drink, then it is acceptable, but in my opinion, if I am spending £28 on breakfast and tea, I don't want to come out feeling hungry. Shall NOT be going back and avoid if you want hot food - so overpriced for what you get.

Visited this cafe for a light brunch, I ordered the smashed avocado on sourdough toast with poached eggs. What I was actually served was poached eggs on sliced white bread toast with a smear of guacamole. I would suggest in the future if certain items from the menu are not available it would be better to inform the customer rather than substitute with much inferior ingredients and hoping that this goes unnoticed.

First time here since last summer (didn’t think a lot of it then either!). Thought it may have improved because under new management, but sadly it seems to be worse. All hot drinks were luke warm and a toasted tea cake was stone cold. Shame really as in lovely location.
