I was really disappointed with my experience here. The guy serving dropped food on a visibly dirty counter, then picked it up and served it to customers—completely unacceptable, especially given the premium prices. For a place that markets itself as “divine cakes to die for,” most of the offerings are overrated and overpriced. Additionally, the lack of gluten options for those of us who actually enjoy gluten is frustrating. While I understand catering to dietary restrictions, the gluten-free selection feels like a compromise rather than a treat. If you’re going to charge top dollar, the quality should match. Wouldn’t rush back.

Great pub, friendly locals, good memories , fair choice of beer and wines, really should get to visit more often, don't sell tayto crisps though 😉

A proper 'local'. Father and son team, and they, and the staff, are always welcoming. As a local, I appreciate their good choice of well prepared ales. Good food and very sunny garden. Occasional bands, weekly folk club and now running a new open-mic on the last Tuesday of the month. Do visit, very near the Cathedral.

Lovely little village pub. This time only went for drinks with a large party. Staff are polite, respectful and welcoming!

One of the best vegan breakfasts I've had recently (and I eat breakfast out most Saturdays). Was a tad expensive for what it was, but I did have extras.

Encontré este pequeño lugar por accidente después de un paseo de perros, pero no me decepcionó. Solo tenía café, así que no puedo comentar sobre la comida, pero era encantador. Acogedor y peculiar, el personal era amable y nos atendieron rápidamente. Admite perros, que es una ventaja. Volveré a visitarte.

Awful. Youngish barmaid was especially rude and seemed to just make up how much things were... didn't give me a total, just took my £10 note and never returned. When I asked for my change she just made a hand gesture and said it was a tenner - for a strongbow and soft drink, get better value in central London. Positive - dog friendly, close to seafront and arcades. Outside seating is preferable to inside. Would recommend getting a softdrink from the chap in the seafood van rather than brave the bar.

Food awesome and cheap. Seriously cheap. Seems like it's been in the family for years. 1970s prices! Update 2025 visit, walk in and they say haven't seen you in a while. As good as ever.

Fantastic place, and loved the ambience & fish & chips

Visited Bertram’s today with my friend for a light lunch. We both had tea and the most delicious Polish apple cake and custard. The garden centre is lovely but I’d visit again just for the pie!

Tried to get a drink here at 9.25pm on a Sunday night to be told they are closed despite there being people in the pub.

Lovely pub, nice staff, great roast. Great garden and well kept.

Stopped by during a visit to Brighton on 23/03/2025 - pastries, coffee, and staff were 10/10. Great place 😊

We stayed here just one night whilst visiting Windsor. It’s a lovely quirky old pub with lots of character and very friendly staff. There is a free car park behind the pub for guests and the breakfast was amazing.
