We stopped here for lunch while on a Hike in the area. We were a big group (approx 20) and they were amongst the few pubs happy to have us. As it was a nice sunny day we sat outside, and as per the pictures, it's a pleasing sight, with the pond, the bridge and loads of character. The pub on the inside too is full of character. Staff are a happy bunch too. Food was served with no issues and came out really quickly, which was perfect as we were all starving. Finally, coming to the food - this is where I'd mark them down. It's not the greatest food and is simply quite un-loved! Mine was fish with some steamed veggies, which were quite overdone, and not much in terms of flavour. Others who had veggie burgers were also underwhelmed with their dishes. So if anything, would be nice to have food that also leaves a smile on the customers face. It is value for money, but I'd rather pay for nice food.

Nice pub in a village setting. Nice garden by a stream. Friendly staff. Food was fine but was let down by portion control. My two friends and I had cold ham and beef ploughman lunches at £11 an £12 each. Tiny teeny portions. We all left hungry, and that’s not the way ploughman’s should be. I can’t recommend the ploughman lunches.

The most kindest people. We where let down on a B&B and stumbled upon this place. The reception we received was unbelievable. Although it’s no longer a B&B they took pity on us and offered us their old room. Not only that but one of the ladies dropped us off to our family party in the next town. Later that night when we returned we had a drink with the lovely chap who owned the place whilst listening to the acoustic band who where also fabulous. I can’t express how overwhelmed I was at the incredible hospitality of The Red Lion. What a wonderful place run by wonderful people. Thank you so very much xx

I really wish google would let me do 6 stars instead of 5. Soon as we pulled up outside, two what i assume to be locals where out the front having their drink and with out missing a beat, turned to us and said hi guys and i like that, you don’t get that in any pub in wycombe. We then walked in and you definitely get the proper quintessential British country pub vibe. All the little trinkets and things round the place really add to the vibe. The drink selection was good and varied. I went for a pint of Stella. It was a very good pint of Stella too. You could really tell how clean the lines are because of how good it tasted. We then sat in the garden for a little while. Like on the inside, there is so many cool things in the garden, from classic bikes, steam engines and olden time equestrian things. Theres a huge pond with some of the biggest fish i think i have ever seen in a pond. Even a really cool duck. We headed inside and ordered 2 roast beef dinners. Where do i even start with how good the food was. Portion size spot on, meat cooked perfectly, veg cooked well and the roast potatoes, i cant even tell you how good those where. To top it off, its great value for money. The chocolate cake i had for desert tasted fresh, presented well and didn’t feel dry like most pub cakes are. The staff where very helpful and all ways greeted with a smile every time you go to the bar. The locals seem very friendly too, even learned about shire horses. The whole experience made me want to leave high wycombe and move to the village. I only have two bad points to which i cant really say they are bad points. I wanted guinness but it wasn’t on. My guess is that its popular in there and just ran out of barrels. (These things happen) wasn’t that much of an issue like i say as they have a good range of lagers. The second point that my Stella wasn’t in a Stella glass, it was in a camden hells glass but thats a better beer either way and the hells glasses look nicer too. All in all: Venue: 10/10 Staff: 10/10 Food: 10/10 Star rating: if google would let me, 6 stars I cant wait to go back again

My wife and I visited here for Sunday Lunch (15/1/22) and it was quite busy in the bar, with lots of local walkers stopping for a drink or more. The pub is old England quaint in style, with a small, but interesting bar and some good real beers. Staffed by overseas people, but very friendly and accommodating. Menu has a good, if quite English standard variety and is very reasonably priced, compared to other similar pubs in the South Bucks area - where we live, so we know. My wife had the roast topside of beef and I had the shoulder of lamb roast, and they were very good value and tasty. Decent meat, properly cooked and generous portions of vegetables, served on hot plates - a touch often forgotten and so 9/10. Bread & Butter pudding with custard for desert was also good and so 8/10. The seating areas inside are OK and quite cosy, but the inner rooms and the toilets really need some good money spent, refreshing the main rooms via a gentle redecoration, which would lift the place and make it even more appealing and eventful. It would be good to get the other main room fire working too, for cold days and evenings.

What a lovely family run inn. We had such a lovely evening here having walked from Chesham. The pub is a beautiful example of a proper traditional pub. The fire dates back to the 17th century. The landlord was so very generous and let us look at the visitors log book dating back to when his family first took over the inn. 1911! It truly made me feel at home. The comments were beautiful. French visitors during the first world war. I can only imagine they must have been refugees. Soldier exclaiming how wonderful the hosts are and the rest they had. Our food was delicious - squid was so tender - Arbroath smokie was delicious - ham egg and chips (could not beat it) and the pie of the day was like a full roast dinner in a pie (my idea of heaven) There were two of us ... I didn't eat all of that to myself. There was enough food for three thought. Remember we all need to support local run business. Shop local and forget the big player. It's the local that will be pushed out first.

Very disappointed in this place. Travelled 200 miles to visit family then they brought us here. The garden was crap the seating was crap. The pond was dirty and the bridge a bit unsafe if your bad on your feet. The large black dog wondering around wasn’t my cup of tea. Sitting and staring at us and I’m a dog person. But not when he’s wet and pooing every where. Ordered 2 steaks both medium but arrived well done. Thought I just continue as in a family group. Then the side salad brown and slimy. Eat a bit and got a soil taste and the sirloin Steak was full of grizzle. I complained to the manager who came out and agreed it was well done. Offered another and I said no the salad made me feel sick. Father in law wasn’t happy but didn’t want to complain. Menu is ok if you like sausages.. One of the burgers had to be returned as it wasn’t plain like asked for so spoilt it for him as he had to wait while we finished. The toilets were the worse I’ve seen and smelt bad.

2 stars for a quaint pub in beautiful rural setting and lovely staff seems a bit disjointed. Unfortunately, for a group of vegetarians and one vegan this pub offered very little to eat. Not having a single main dish for veggies is pretty poor, even for a 'traditional' pub. We settled on chips, beans and cheese for £9. Very steep for the portion size. I caveat this by saying the staff were very friendly and tried to accommodate. Maybe the owner should take stock....literally.

I didn't complain about the ploughmans, when I asked what does the ham ploughmans come with and the reply was ham I should have guessed this is not the place to come for food! I’ve had a few ploughmans in the past, usually local ham beautifully cut, with crumbly mature cheddar and homemade chutney, with wonderful fresh bread. This was literally a piece of plastic looking tasteless cheese (dunno what it was) with bit of dry lettuce, couple of soft grapes, with chewy bread and a bit of branston pickle for the bargain price of £9. Joke!!!! Then I found a hair on one of the scallops, to be told 'that didnt come from my kitchen' in a shouting manner from the so called chef! And then told 'What more do you want you're getting your money back for that'. Yeah mate but I'm not getting my money back for 2 cheese bits and bread (2 x ploughmans £18) and I'm not being compensated for your atrocious customer service and disgusting experience at your BAD PUB!!

We passed thru and enjoyed an evening meal this week. The whitebait deep fried in breadcrumbs were delicious and we both had the homemade beef burgers which were very tasty. The citra ale was quite superb. The staff were helpful and informative. It's a quirky setting with some humorous touches and the surreal presence of a gently flowing river through the middle of the pub garden. Overall a pleasant couple of hours and well worth a visit if anyone's in the area.

The Red Lion is one of 2 pubs in the picturesque village of Little Missenden. ( Villagers are lucky to have 2 pubs in a small village ). Some people may recognise the Red Lion from its appearances in the " Midsomer Murder " series , albeit under a different name. I like everything about the pub : it retains its old fashioned interior - has not been trendified. There is a large garden out back. A hard surfaced area is divided from a grass area by the river /pond which runs through & is connected by a bridge. Lots of tables , generally well spaced. Also seating to the side & front. Friendly service. Having read previous reviews I note that many people were not happy with the food. I thought the menu was limited & rather reminiscent of pub food 30 -40 years ago. Nothing for vegans. However, as one who has often moaned about the increasing dominance of food in pubs , I don't mind that much. There is enough for anyone who is hungry & I reckon the general ambience outweighs any perceived shortcomings in the food department. The water area is home to assorted ducks & some decent sized trout. Would have liked a wider choice of ales. Reasonable amount of street parking. If you like a traditional English Village pub , I recommend a visit
