Fantastic food, great selection of drinks and the people working there are brilliant! Great conversation, the best sense of humour Good options of little games to play while there, and there are darts too if that your thing! I don't know if it was because it was a group booking or if there's a separate menu to cater events, but the food was bland and undercooked. The dessert was nice, though. Service was very slow and seemed a bit unorganised (the performance was delayed as they were waiting for the food to be served but that did not happen as scheduled, and 2 staff members on 3 different occasions said they'd come back to take drink orders, and refill the bar snacks, but never did). The inside of the pub itself was nice and spacious, and clean, too.

When Black Horse reopened after the lockdown, we attempted to show our support a few times, but at that time, we only had options for beer and pizza. It's lovely to learn that they finally have proper food, so we went back for a Saturday dinner. The food was great, and the service was friendly and warm. It was our first time dining in the pub (in our previous experiences, we sat in the garden so our dog could wander in their spacious garden). It was spacious and comfy. The food there is proper pub food. No, it's not 'insanely' good, but we also didn't find ourselves disappointed with the food either. We gave it five stars because the pub provides proper food, great beer, and a wonderful dining environment with great service. All the elements that promise a great, relaxing dining experience are checked. We would recommend it, and we'll definitely come back to show our support. PS. The food menu is different from what they have on their website.

We stayed overnight in our camper in May 2024. Lovely genuine welcome, great beer and fabulous food and big car parks. We were not hurried off in the morning, and we had a peaceful night. The main road is close, but it didn't bother us as there is a field and a big hedge to shield the traffic noise. Lovely walk into the village. We felt so welcomed, we called on the way back from Colchester to Gloucester and stayed again. Small fee to stay or eat in the pub. By the way they do fabulous pizzas!!!

Booked for Sunday Lunch despite only one other table of guests we were kept waiting for at least 40 mins, we were told they were only serving roast dinners and yet they could only give three of us a Yorkshire pudding because they had run out. The three guests received theirs which were burnt black whilst the other guest didn't have one but we were offered extra potatoes to compensate. The potatoes were obviously frozen bland ready made, a teaspoon of stuffing on the side , and a few peas and carrots completed the serving . No apple sauce or crackling with the pork, all in all in all very poor quality of food, extremely disappointing. Would have explained our disappointment but no member of staff returned to our table during service to ask if we were happy with our meals sadly we left - we will not be returning . Poor food ,Poor service , very disappointing for what appeared to be a pretty local pub in a lovely setting which could have been and should have been great

Took my family for a Sunday roast here for the first time. Service was good, though the food was underwhelming. A couple of us wanted to order the veggie roast, but we were informed there was only one portion available…and we were the first lunch diners there, so good luck to anyone else that wanted a vegetarian roast that day (which is the only meal they offer on a Sunday). I had to choose the lamb roast, though this was refunded which was nice. As for desserts, a couple of us ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding and when they came out, one of them literally had half the amount than the other, which we questioned. They did rectify this problem, but it’s the sort of thing that should be picked up in the kitchen before the orders are sent out to the tables. It’s just the lack of attention to detail and the average food that means we probably won’t be returning for a Sunday roast.

Be wary about going in here a group. We gave 2 weeks notice that there would be 8-10 of us for a Sunday lunch and the food took an exceptionally long time to come (1.5 hrs after we ordered) - we were only informed at the end that there was only one chef. Arguably the best pub in Great Missenden and certainly my favourite. So pleased to see it open and running again after it was so sadly left empty for a while. They are back to doing what the Black Horse in Great Missenden does best: events, live music, hot air balloons and great food in a beautiful pub, surrounded by countryside - The perfect location for Sunday lunch with a pint followed by a walk up the hill across the fields, to see the surrounding view. We luckily stopped by the same day they had their new chef starting and I must say, the food was all of it perfectly cooked. Best roast dinner I can remember having since a Christmas at sime point 😂. Thank you chef! I have genuinely been going on about it all day. Long live the Black Horse!

Dismal failure to offer Sunday Lunch. Sign on the road offering Bar be Que 1 till 4 on Sundays. On ordering at bar, to staff who seem to prefer to clean coolers rather than take orders. No Bar Be Que. but we have everything’s else other than Chucky chips. Ok well have Sunday Roast. No Sunday Roasts. We do have both full and lunch menus on today. We order. Ten minutes later. Sorry we only have a Limited choice of our main menu. In the space of 10 mins gone from feast to famine. To hot and bothered to leave so settle for limited, poorly cooked and expensive compared with our northern pockets. Not a place I would recommend to go or want to go again. Booked here for a Sunday roast. It did not disappoint. The staff were attentive and friendly. We were recommended the lamb which we both ordered. It was tasty and very tender. It came with yorkshire pudding and plenty of vegetables and roast potatoes and we ordered an extra portion of cauliflower cheese which was absolutely delicious! The gravy was full of flavour and clearly had been made using the lamb stock. I would have preferred the gravy in a separate little jug but that's a personal thing. All in all a great meal. Unfortunately the menu had changed that day it was a very limited choice we had squid to start which was lovely and beautifully cooked, I had a burger with the extra cost of s.potato fries it was nice but nothing special fries were cooked nicely, partner had curry they unfortunately didn't have the poppadoms that went with it again was nice enough, but was a little underwhelmed. They kind of forgot us at the end so didn't bother with a pudding or have any idea what was on offer. It's a lovely pub and the lad who served us was a pleasant host not sure if we'd rush back given how lucky we are with restaurants and pubs in the area

We booked to eat here the other week and went for Sunday roast last Sunday. We were told no booking was showing but they would find us a table of 3. We ordered our food 3 X roast 2 X lamb 1 X beef , my beef was brought out with no gravy or Yorkshire's the other 2 meals appeared about 10 mins later. My partner asked about my yorkshire and extra roast potatoes to which they replied there is not enough as they had been really busy bit strange as it was only 13.20 and roast dinners were all they were doing. Whilst eating our dinner it came to our attention that a table of 3 plus a baby had not received their dinner yes you guessed it it was served to us. They therefore asked for a refund and left and we apologized profusely that we didn't realise we had consumed their lunch. Needless to say we will not be returning and we even left without ordering a coffee and dessert. I left a message on their Facebook site and it was removed also you are unable to message them ! I wonder why. Avoid

A cosy, warm & welcoming (dog friendly) pub nestled away in the countryside, with plenty of parking & a fire! Good selection of drinks, great food along with vegan (im not a vegan) and amazing stone cooked pizzas! (You should totally offer takeaway btw) There’s a hot air balloon club in the neighbouring field, and we even watched a miniature balloon take off from our window. Toilets immaculate & I loved the thoughtful touch of the sanitary products on the side. Will definitely be back again! Fantastic that the place has reopened after a refit after standing idle. New owners and staff are fantastic . What food they do is excellent. My experience was spoiled by some precious customer who seemed to think she was some sort of influencer complaining about the colourful language from some locals and threatening the Landlord with a bad review. This was at 6pm ,when most Builders are unwinding after work. If Tarquin and Jemima are (in your opinion) old enough to visit a PUBLIC House then its on you for their experience of the adult world. The Landlords and staff are excellent. If a bit of colourful language offends you and little Horatio and Puddleduck take them too Maccy D's.

Mother's day treat turned into 2 hours of poor food & service. Not recommended at all. Arrived at for 5pm booking, served at 7:30pm. When finally served, the food was below average at best & one of the dishes was inedible as all the vegetables were burnt & an aubergine accompaniment was tasteless watery slush. The Caesar salad main was bland, poorly prepared, had oily fried bread croutons & was a minuscule portion...particularly for c. £17 set menu price. We therefore complained. They blamed the delay on the fact they had one other large booking (about 15 people) plus our 5. But if they had been happy to take the bookings you would expect them to plan for set numbers. They blamed the inedible dish (a roast) on the fact that they had a "new chef today who was not used to the ovens". So aside from having their new chef's first day on one of the busiest days of the year, they wern't that familiar with the ovens. Advice alert to management....phone the parties in advance to explain this to allow an informed decision as to whether they wanted to continue with their bookings. I note others have had spookily similar experiences recently. Aside from the food I'd characterise this place as a tatty drinkers pub. So if that's what you want, then fine, but for food the message is avoid…

If you're not someone who goes here at least once a week, don't go. They are set up for regulars only. Great food, quick to serve you a drink and very nice staff. However the table management at Sunday lunchtime is dreadful. After booking long in advance, when we arrived we were told that that we would have to wait a couple minutes before we could get a table. There were about three empty tables but apparently they were booked for someone else (in other words they were prioritizing regulars). We then waiting a full 30 minutes before we were finally seated and informed that the menu was 'the usual Sunday roast'. I'm sure if that's the same pub you've been to for 7 generations then the pub is great. However, they really need to up their game if they ever want new customers.

If it wasn't so sad we'd laugh at the prices. An orange and tonic was more expensive than a Guinness or a San Miguel. The bottles soft drinks really couldn't have been smaller, like 200ml. And people are being encouraged to drink less alcohol. The bar person could have cared less if he served us or not and it seemed he was doing us a big favour even acknowledging our presents. Shall make a point NOT tp bother to stop there again and not take customers.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Lion of Beaconsfield. As soon as we entered, we were warmly greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. The service was excellent and the food was incredible. We loved the ambience of the restaurant and had a thoroughly enjoyable time from start to finish. We will be back!

From first contact a few weeks before, through to our celebration meal, the Queen's Head exceeded all expectations and truly delivered on their strap line of "nothing is too much trouble". Though we ourselves no longer live locally we needed to find a venue in the area for a celebration dinner for some 25 family and friends, aged from 6 to 76-ish. From the outset the team, headed by Manuela front of house and Sno in the kitchen, were very responsive and flexible to our need for an exclusive dining area for a complete Saturday evening - unique amongst all the other venues we contacted. Having first enjoyed Thai food here some 35 years ago it was great to return and be able to let all our guests make their own advance choices from the extensive menu. The food was served freshly cooked and exquisitely presented on the plate. All of our guests were very complimentary about the ambiance of the upstairs dining area and the quality and quantity of the food. Thank you QH for a very enjoyable celebration dinner.
