From first contact a few weeks before, through to our celebration meal, the Queen's Head exceeded all expectations and truly delivered on their strap line of "nothing is too much trouble". Though we ourselves no longer live locally we needed to find a venue in the area for a celebration dinner for some 25 family and friends, aged from 6 to 76-ish. From the outset the team, headed by Manuela front of house and Sno in the kitchen, were very responsive and flexible to our need for an exclusive dining area for a complete Saturday evening - unique amongst all the other venues we contacted. Having first enjoyed Thai food here some 35 years ago it was great to return and be able to let all our guests make their own advance choices from the extensive menu. The food was served freshly cooked and exquisitely presented on the plate. All of our guests were very complimentary about the ambiance of the upstairs dining area and the quality and quantity of the food. Thank you QH for a very enjoyable celebration dinner.

Awful only word i can describe, service was appalling , had to prompt the team for the wine we ordered , starter severed but no plates, starter was severed but mains arrived at same time , Restaurant organisation and management was appalling. , food was like it was from Tesco or Sainsbury chiller counter . Manager did try to put things right and apologised and wine was taken off the bill but unfortunately i think is a lost cause , Will never go back . Such a shame because is a beautiful pub , nice courtyard and nice upstairs space ,

A shame! A lovely pub with some fantastic food! However severely let down with its prices of drinks… My partner ordered a weak lager-shandy (perhaps quarter of a pint) that turned out to be just as expensive as a full pint, and I had lemonade that was still overpriced but more reasonable. I questioned why they are charging the price of a full pint given the cost of a lemonade and a dribble of Amstel doesn’t match and I was told “that’s just the price”. I do like this pub but have found that recently their service has become abrupt, it has lost its friendly feeling and they are being greedy with the pricing. We ended up going to the George and Dragon and had the same drinks, at a much fairer price.

Its had a bit of a revamp, dont let that put you off, it's still fantastic 😄 We always have the dumplings for our son, their squid, and their Prawn toast - all delicious. Usually, I have a Penang, but went Special fried rice this time, and wasn't disappointed. Hubby always has a red curry with duck, amd sticky rice (proper sticky rice, in a little bamboo pot), and boy almost always has sweet and sour. They are always delicious, and always generous portions. Which you can wash down with a freshly pulled London Pride! Win-win!

There is confusion and unfairness in getting a table for Quiz Night. We are told there is no need to book a table and in fact the website doesn't allow Thursday night bookings. It's a first come, first served basis. However, this is NOT the case. Many tables are reserved. We arrived at 6.30 and sat with our drinks at a 'free' table. A few minutes later a staff member placed a reserved tile on our table, meaning that we had to vacate it by 7.30. We went to other tables only to find these were also reserved. The staff were totally unconcerned that we, regular quizzers were now leaving to go to another pub. The management needs to get it's act together. It's either booking or it's not. After being treated like that we shan't be going back in a hurry.

The pub was really busy (rugby World Cup final!) but the food came out in very good time and it was all good. We shared a mixed starter, which was yummy and not greasy as they can be sometimes. Our son had the Pad Thai for main, which he loved and wolfed down, and my husband and I shared a duck curry and a special fried rice, both of which we really enjoyed. We loved the atmosphere, but even though we ordered all of our food at the same time, all of our dishes arrived separately. In my case, my order arrived 20 mins after everyone elses, and I was served the wrong dish. I had ordered a Thai Red Curry with chicken, but was given a vegetarian dish. The dish itself was delicious, but it doesn't take away from the lack of attention to customer service. I am really not sure what was wrong with the old colours, but a nice smell of paint ;-) However, my issue is that the 2-course lunch menu is £22.00 + No Green Curry with prawns. I opted for a Yellow Curry, but full of cheap potatoes and a bit of chicken. I could have asked for a Prawn version, but that was another £5.00. Ah, the Queen's Head. Our lovely local that we used to go to most weeks for lunch. Their old Lunch Express (two courses for about £12) was great, with a good selection of mains. Now they've been renovated and under new management, gone is the Lunch Express to be replaced by a 2 (or 3) course limited lunchtime menu. Red, Green and Yellow curries with a choice of chicken, beef or prawn, has now been reduced to yellow chicken, and red beef. There's still a few other favourites, and no doubt the chef is the same. Portions did seem a little smaller for the mains, but the biggest difference is the price; £22 a head! Doubt we'll be going back again for lunch at that price. Staff pleasant and friendly as usual though.

This has been mine and my family's favourite pub for a good few years now and it has never been anything short of excellent. From the attentive and friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you, the decor reminding you of the pub's history and the fantastic Thai cuisine which (in my opinion) cannot be surpassed by any other restaurant. I had the Pad Thai which was cooked to perfection; as someone who doesn't eat most meat I was delighted to see a large variety of vegetarian options available. There is evidently a lot of care put into each individual meal and each of my friends agreed they were perfect regarding both presentation and flavour. The manager took fantastic care of us all and pulled out all the stops to ensure we had a wonderful time; it is evident he is passionate about the place and has a key interest in ensuring the satisfaction of his customers! Overall, if you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere with fantastic food and wonderful staff, I'd highly reccommend this place.

MORE AT Google

For the last 10 years my partner and I have gone to this pub on and off. It holds special memories as the place we first met and have always gone out of our way to visit, not just for the memories, but the food too. Today was our last visit. I don't know if it has completely changed hands but oh my.... definitely a shadow of it's former self (to be polite). Staff - Massively understaffed - while they were very pleasant, no one came to ask if the food was OK (even after complaining about my dish which takes a lot for me to do), had to wait almost 5 minutes to be served upon entry with only two others at the bar waiting. Then the same again to order food a few minutes later with the staff member struggling to pull a peroni (some issue with the lines somewhere - not their fault but my issue here was the complaint to a regular customer in earshot of everyone else waiting about this). Shift change came after our food was served and my meal had no sauce (stir-fry dish) so I returned it to the bar explaining this. I was given an apology and told my meal would be redone. Fine - not an issue. Only it came out 1 minute later with a minute amount of sauce and was clearly the same dish (I'd broken up my rice which was as it was when i returned the plate). After this - no one came to ask if everything was OK - not good service after a customer has an issue with a meal. Food - plain and basic - we each had the garlic and pepper stir-fry - not a hint of pepper to be found and it was rather herby - not what a Thai should taste like and nothing like we've had before (same dish, same place in the past). Portion sizes were more like a kids size or a small lunch size, and as mentioned - barely any sauce on one, and none on mine at all (image below is AFTER they added sauce). It was very disappointing knowing what previous chef's have delivered both in taste, size and presentation. We used to love this place for food - would always recommend it and took people there who were visiting but not now, could have made better at home. Fryers were broken so all but two of the starters were off leaving only prawn crackers and dim sum. We had crackers and asked for them to come out with the main - they came out first (not a major issue but a little annoying none the less). Had to leave half the rice because it was dry with no sauce to soften it and part of the rice was stuck together and hard like it had been sitting waiting to be served - worrying considering we had our meals within 5 minutes of ordering - not freshly cooked chicken then! I wonder how long it has been sitting waiting for someone to claim it? To say it was hot would be a step too far also! The only reason we ate it was because we had nowhere else to go in the time frame we had available - otherwise we'd have requested money back and gone elsewhere. Atmosphere - challenging - while it was calm and fairly quiet within the vicinity - two tables ordered food while we were eating - (think of the bar as a square with us in a corner), both corners next to us ordered soon after us. Each time their food was ready, we were disturbed (even though we were eating), because the bar staff had added our table number to all three orders (I overheard the young gentleman delivering the food mention this on the second occasion he disturbed us - he apologised and not his fault at all). During this time another man (assume a chef) went around the bar offering a free doughnut for dessert to every table. While I appreciate the gesture, it looked unappealing and yet again, we were disturbed while eating. Finally, we went to leave and waiting 5 to 7 minutes to pay our tab while the single bar staff made drinks and delivered them via table service to the back bar. So in the hour we were there, we spent around 15 minutes at the bar waiting for service (granted there were apologies given but it wasn't exactly busy - the staff had no idea how to multitask or make conversation / set up orders with those waiting - it was very tunnel visioned), food was sent back and then not followed up on and it was average at best. Extremely disappointing when we know what the pub used to be like and in all honesty, we would go elsewhere moving forward - between Chesham and Amersham there are many Thai restaurants and this place has quickly gone from the top to the bottom of the list. Couple that with a ever-shrinking menu from how it was when we first started visiting (when the food was at it's best), I can safely say we will not be returning. I do not complain lightly - I worked MANY years in retail and hospitality, including pubs, bars restaurants (kitchen and FOH) and held supervisor roles too, I appreciate something can have an 'off day' but this was something different - many things were broken / not working, basic service and food and no connection with the customers (even after something was sent back) other than to complain or apologise for the lack of service. Definitely won't be recommending this place again and will go somewhere where both the food and the customer service is a whole lot better.

I went for a pint and an evening meal with an old friend and I hadn't been for at least five years. I had the most delicious chicken and cashew nuts ever. The rice was perfect - I wish I could cook it like that myself - the sauce was tasty, light, and very moreish, and to my surprise and delight, the chicken was fried in batter. I have to go back and have the same again. Soon. The atmosphere at the Queen's Head was always lovely and this visit was no different. We sat and chatted comfortably in the little garden, able to hear each other without any effort, and with sociable company around us. Food was served really fast too.

Appalling service, completely messed up the order, had to wait a long time for the wrong food!

A great little pub especially for the food! The Thai was authentic and delicious and we were there on a Saturday which happened to be a bbq day. The spicy lamb burger is a must try! The chefs and staff are so friendly and lovely. Can’t recommend this pub and the food enough after a long scenic walk in the area.

Visited the Queen's Head after finishing the Chess Valley Walk. Turned out to be top notch pub. Very legit Thai food! And the BBQ burgers were also very delicious, especially the spicy lamb. Would definitely recommend visiting here

Nice decor. Booked a table for 8 and needed to order in advance. Food was nice. Staff were friendly and no real problems. It did feel a little disorganised when we visited, but that didn't effect us at all.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Lion of Beaconsfield. As soon as we entered, we were warmly greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. The service was excellent and the food was incredible. We loved the ambience of the restaurant and had a thoroughly enjoyable time from start to finish. We will be back!

I just had a brilliant meal here! From the moment I walked in, the team greeted me warmly and really knew their stuff about the menu. The Shakshuka was absolutely spot on—delicious and well-presented—while the Salsiccia e Friarielli was perfection with a slight tweak to the base. Everything was so clean and inviting, plus the service was quick and friendly. Can’t wait to come back for more!
