Went in again last weekend after the umpteenth change of manager over the years and a refurb at last. It's like a different pub. Whilst it's still a small old country pub it's been fully refreshed so we felt we could sit down (walked out last time as so depressing). The young lady serving was a pleasure to deal with, chatty, efficient and tried to top up my beer cos it looked under the right level (I'd taken a sip, which I told her). A nice view out the back over the playing fields. Hopefully there will be food available at some point.

I called in the Eagle for the first time in early December 2023. I really enjoyed it. It was very friendly and welcoming, the people behind the bar were very chatty and as a stranger made me feel very welcome. The beer was very good, although it was a little more expensive than I am used to, but that didn't matter as I had such a great visit. There is plenty of parking, and a disabled space near the front door. There is no food available, there would be a lot of competition locally. It is a proper, friendly traditional English style pub. I will now always visit there when I am in the area. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Eagle to anyone. (It is in the old town)

I was walking my dog with my son last Saturday and saw the sign outside offering mulled wine and a mince pie. We went inside and were met with a very warm welcome from the landlady. Apparently, the mulled wine and mince pie offer was from the night before (for the Old Amersham Christmas Festival) but she still honoured the offer, which we really appreciated. Not only that, she was very welcoming to my dog (who can be quite reactive) and there were dog biscuits in a jar on the bar (for which she would not accept any money) and these came in very handy. Needless to say, all three of us enjoyed our brief visit to The Eagle. The pub is under new management and I wish them every success because the warm welcome and friendliness we received from the landlady is absolutely the essence of a good pub (and on that note, I cannot comment on the beer as we just had the wine, but I look forward to going back for a pint to complete my review!)

After Ludo & Arnaux had provided such a fantastic pub atmosphere and excellent food until moving on in January 2022, it is disappointing that the new management has totally misjudged the Old Amersham market. On Saturday evening, the nearby Elephant & Castle was full to the brim, but by contrast The Eagle had 3 customers and closed its doors at 8pm. One suspects that they may be closed for good shortly?

This is a slightly odd review as we did not eat or drink at this pleasant little pub in Old Amersham. We came here on a sunny afternoon hoping to enjoy lunch in the pub garden. We asked the duty manager about the ingredients of the food offered on the menu as my wife has an allergy to rapeseed and palm oil. Sadly, virtually all the meals were prepared using these oils. The manager conscientiously checked each dish we enquired about and even tried to find 'workarounds' so that we could eat there. Unfortunately, this proved almost impossible and there was a further concern about cross contamination. However, the lady suggested that if we wished to dine there in the future we could call the day before and the kitchen would ensure a meal that my wife could eat safely. This is a rarely offered solution. I wish we had noted the lady's name to express our gratitude more personally and to let the pub proprietor know what a valuable and resourceful employee they have working for them.

Awful experience. We waited 50 minutes for our lunch which never arrived. We politly informed the manager who without an apologie brought over a wooden board with an opened can of sardines dried out bread, cold and disgusting looking onion rings with dried out ketchup. When we informed the manger that we did not order this he aggressively questioned us on what we did order. Needless to say we paid and left. Clearly this is not a pub that wants to do well but if you after a bit of slapstick fawlty tower comedy with a touch of food poisoning on the side by all means venture in. By the way when you check the reviews of this place on trip advisor many more had the exact same experience as us.

Lovely village and lovely location for the pub - backs onto a stream and cricket field. Old building with both inside and outside seating. We sat outside which was nice. We went for lunch today. Well that was the intention. I had to ask to order food as the waitress didn’t come back for ages after she had given us our drinks. We both ordered fish and chips. An hour later, our food had not yet arrived. We asked the waitress and she went to ask the chef and then came back and told us that she had forgotten to give our order to the chef but if we wanted he could start cooking it now. We didn’t have time, as this was at lunchtime (!) so we said no thank you. I complained to the manager and he just said, yes well she forgot to order it and we did offer to cook it for you now. No apology, nothing. We paid for our drinks, left and will never go back ever again.

This was our first visit to the Eagle in years and will probably be our last for some time. The inside bar was deserted apart from a bored pair of staff, clearly surprised that anyone might want a drink/food. Two attempts to get an order of three drinks correct was not a good start. The cassoulet was served tepid and having been returned to the kitchen managed to return lukewarm. When we pointed this out to the manager who cleared the plates there was a shrug of the shoulders. As we walked home we passed 2 other pubs that were packed - I wonder why the Eagle wasn’t?

Would we like a last drink, we said yes a cocktail but he said the bar had shut, we complained and he said we were offered a drink, not the one we asked for. The barmaid said we could go up the road for a drink. Really disappointed we spent £180 and an uneventful night! The manager is so rude and unhelpful, really wouldn't recommend. Under fairly new management, this characterful pub has just re-opened its garden after lockdown and the menu offers an appealing selection of lighter and more substantial dishes, eg smoked salmon, ploughman’s lunch (recommended), beer-battered fish and chips, etc, plus desserts and cheese. All the dishes we sampled were fresh, tasty and nicely presented. The staff were very helpful and friendly. A most enjoyable visit. Hope to see The Eagle flourish this summer.

Visited today as a family of three. We all ordered burgers- 2x adults and 1x childs. Disappointed is an understatement.£9.50 per burger PLUS £3.50 per portion of chips. £6.50 for children's burger and chips. After around 30-45minutes waiting, we were presented with three sad looking burgers- ALL THREE THE SAME SIZE. The burgers were small in size. The patty itself was tastey, and thick, however was no bigger than the palm of my hand. The waiter then bought our "sea salt" fries out to us- which my fiancée and I were sharing. After another 5/10minutes of waiting, there was still no sign of our son's chips. We quiered with the waiter, and the chef had completely forgotten about them. So 15minutes later, some piping hot, oil smothered, salt doused, ADULT portion fries were bought out to us.My son wasn't able to eat the fries, due to the ridiculous amount of salt on them. I will not be returning, due to the ridiculous pricing! £13 for burger and chips that is the same as a child's burger and chips. My advice is, if you want to order the burger woth a side of fries- just order the child's portion, it's the same sizs!

Very disappointing Sunday lunch, yesterday. The new landlord opened on Tuesday 1st September 2020. I had Fish and chips. The fish was smaller than a children's portion. It had very thick batter. Once the batter was peeled off the fish was approximately 5 inches long, one inch wide and very thin. I got a mountain of very nice chips but I would have liked a bigger portion of fish. Cost £9.50 but still poor value. The previous landlord David Hawkins charged the same but the fish was a proper portion. No peas yesterday! Not a problem for me as I don't mind The landlord needs to go to the Potters Arms in Winchmore Hill or the Harte and Magpies in Coleshill to see what is expected in this area for Fish and Chips. My husband had belly of pork. The meat was very nice but had a disappointing serving of vegetables. He had 3 small carrots, seared on one side. NB Burnt food is carcinogenic. A very large portion of red cabbage - not everybody's favourite vegetable but he likes it. He would have likes a bigger variety of vegetables for Sunday lunch. The landlord should visit the above mentioned pubs for Sunday lunch for ideas of what is expected. We were both disappointed with our lunch and felt dissatisfied. I eat very small portions and often order a children's meal but for once I was still peckish after my lunch as I did not want to fill up on chips. I only ate enough chips to match the portion of fish.We will NEVER eat there again. We will however probably call in for a drink. The attitude of the owner and staff was pompous and arrogant. They wish to educate we country residents, London ways. We have often eaten in London and had much more satisfying and good value pub meals

This is one of our local pubs and has very recently re-opened under brand new management. The decor has been freshened up and a bit of a re-vamp which makes it much brighter and welcoming. The staff are all very friendly, professional and helpful. However, the greatest improvement is the standard of food served .... it is, without doubt, exceptional and excellent value for money. We visited yesterday evening and it was reasonably busy for a newly re-opened pub, but the service was excellent. It is pub food cooked to perfection, please keep up the excellent standard!! The menu is not huge but it is varied and, as a very fussy eater, I believe there is something on it to tempt everyone. We chose four dishes to share as portions are served the size of a generous starter. We both started with the Teign Valley crab mayonnaise with apple and chive which is served with warm toasted sour dough, it was a fusion fresh and wonderful flavours. My husband then had the Eagle Mac 'n' cheese which was equally as tasty and topped with crispy onion pieces. I chose the Wild mushroom Arancini with wild garlic pesto which was delicious and better than any I have had anywhere. I can't recommend the food highly enough, it truly is first class.

great working class no nonsense pub (with pool tables and super cheap beer), go there before it gets refurbished (ie gentrified)

Nice decor. Booked a table for 8 and needed to order in advance. Food was nice. Staff were friendly and no real problems. It did feel a little disorganised when we visited, but that didn't effect us at all.
