Jolliffes Coffee Shop in Brighton and Hove

Unfortunately we didn't stay to eat or drink, we were met with an extremely rude male member of staff this morning, completely unnecessary. There are so many better places in Brighton to visit.

We were delighted to find this great coffee shop during our visit to Brighton! The coffee, pastries, and sandwiches were fresh and flavorful but if you want a nutritious meal I suggest the owner’s homemade savory root vegetable soup! It was fabulous! The good size portion kept me fueled most of the day! Everyone was so friendly. The service was great! Our two times to eat there during our one week stay will be a standout memory from our time in Brighton!

Nice cafe for a pitstop with some fine snacks. Nothing amazingly special. The cafe is pretty nice. Very big - has upstairs seating so it would be good for bigger groups. Drinks here are fine. Nothing special at all.

Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit today. Atmosphere and incredibly friendly staff made it. The cannolis were amazing. Thank you for helping locate my missing shopping bag. Thank you Jane

great coffee, but we witnessed the owner (a middle aged man) being extremely disrespectful to one of the female employees, using cursing words even tho it was clear to him and everyone else how upset she was with the whole situation. I’m not coming back here as I don’t think anyone deserves to be treated the way she was.

Spoke to two lovely ladies, rosa and Gina. Gina’s coffee was excellent and rosa service was welcoming. Definitely coming back soon.

Wow. What a lovely atmosphere. Me and my friend had the pleasure of stopping by here for a quick coffee and a bite to eat. We were served by a lovely waitress named Rosa who took our order. The flat white I had was absolutely delicious, which was made by Gina. Would 10/10 recommend!

This is our first stop when we visit brighton. Lovely cappuccino and tea. Cakes are incredible. The staff are always friendly. Great place to start our day.

I felt very welcomed and happy at this coffee shop. I’m just not sure it has the ‘Brighton’ vibe. Not a lot of food section and pretty bland but loved the drinks and service. It’s DIY but works.

Really rude owner, felt like we’d done something awfully wrong just by ordering coffee? Ruined the whole experience really. The mocha and food wasn’t great either so wouldn’t go back. Definitely not child friendly

I had a nice experience and very tasty cake here recently but having read some of the sarcastic remarks from the owner to feedback below I’m now reluctant to return.

Nice cosy place for a short coffee break. They have WC facility upstairs.

The cannoli staring at you from the window are quite inviting, they're reasonably priced but quite small and felt somewhat stale and dry, but they tasted quite well nonetheless. However, the mocha I had was rather lack luster

Cute little coffee shop with some nice baked goods. We stopped off for a coffee and some pastries which were white chocolate cannoli and a pistachio sfogliatelle (excuse my spelling), both lovely but nothing spectacular. The place has a lovely relaxed atmosphere with some great art on the walls. The staff seemed polite enough.

Went in today with friends and 3 babies. One friend who was celiac, although they didn’t have anything to cater for her the staff where so friendly and so helpful. Wanted a place to say thank you so hopefully they see this. Would definitely recommend for a coffee and a bite to eat while in the lanes

I thought the customer service was extremely poor, likely melenial students who haven t developed any interpersonal skills yet. In addition, I was dismayed to hear the bombastic bragging of whom I assume is the owner talking very loudly about dismantling a seagull nest on the roof of the cafe which is a wildlife offence

Nice food and drink and friendly service from female staff.spoiled by over loud male possible owner with very loud voice effing and blinding frequently. Children present...I'm no prude but this is not the place for such language

We have visited this Coffee shop in the past and had no problem. This time we waited for nearly 20minutes for just two coffees, asked for sugar and was given a quarter of a sugar lump each and the Staff or owners were more interested in talking about the music they were playing.!!

Can't quite get over how rude the member of staff who served us was, commenting audibly to his colleague that we took too long to decide what we wanted to order. Some people just don't have the demeanour for front of house work.

Rudest person ever. Not the helpers but the owner. If a person have no manners, they should not be allowed to open places like that where you have to have people interaction /communication. Highly disappointed

Passed this place so many times and finally decided to give it a try, which I'm glad I did. They allow dogs which is important to us as we go everywhere with them, and they're completely independent. The freshly made sandwiches are so nice and really well made. The cakes are also among the nicest I've had in a coffee shop, especially since they weren't overly sweet like they often are. The folk that work here are very friendly and easy going and the whole experience just makes me want to keep coming back.

We love this place food consistently good ,go there everytime we go to Brighton It is just typically BRIGHTON bit quirky but lovely.

My friend and I were served coffee which were meant to be for the next table (similar orders). Few moments later we had a woman coming from downstairs who was very shouty and snappy with us as if it was our fault. She took our coffee away without any apology/explanation, stormed away and went downstairs with drinks spilling everywhere. I think the shop needs to work on a more efficient system to accurately identify customer’s order and their location (e.g. table number), and perhaps staff’s stress management. Nevertheless, coffee and cannoli were top quality.

Owner always recognises us and chats even if we don't see him for a year!! Great coffee great atmosphere and we'll always visit when we're in town. Xxx

I had a bowl of homemade vegetable soup with crusty bread. PERFECT

The chai latte was lovely as was the hummus/ avocado sandwich.... come to think of it, so was the hazelnut cannoli.... and the service! Really pleased i came in :)

Can't comment on downstairs, but having recently sat upstairs for a coffee & snack, the place is grubby & needs a clean!

Really tasty coffee but it seem to take a long time for it to get made. Felt like they were understaffed as the dishes and tables took ages to be cleared.

I often stop here for coffee and maybe a cheeky cake. my sons favourite cafe when we go out in town together, Fresh food and a relaxed atmosphere great to get out of the busyness for a while and just relax.

Very welcome place to stop off, rest, have a Pot of Tea, Coffee, Slice of cake and a MEAT sausage roll (in a Lane full of Veggie & Vegan places). Shame the cake tasted as if it wasn't fully defrosted from frozen.

Lovely selection of hot drinks, cakes and sandwiches. I had a chorizo, red pepper and ceddar sandwich and my boyfriend had a salmon bagal! Lovely staff and chilled atmosphere 😊👌

Nice, unpretentious cafe tucked away in the North Laines. Ended up here with the kids on a windy Saturday. Kids loved their ham ciabatta and the coffee was so good that I had 2.

I’ve ordered cappuccino. The oat milk wasn’t hot at all so I’ve asked for another one. Instead of making another one they put it in the microwave! 🤮😂unbelievable!

Cake is fantastic. Every visit to Brighton we stop for cake.

Great coffee shop to pop into for some tea/coffee and cake. My husband and I enjoyed a yummy piece of carrot cake and it was BOMB!

Awful! To all the mums out there who get up and out of the house and make it to a cafe for coffee - well done... but don’t waste your time here. You’ll spend your hard earned me time listening to the owner moan on the phone to his bank then moan about how “f***ing awful” your baby’s cry is when they’re having their nappy changed. Google says child friendly... what a joke!

Staff were not friendly, we sat in a seat by the stairs and could see and smell the filth. Dirty tables unreplenished sugar bowls. Overpriced and bland sausage roll.

Estaba bastante tranquilo cuando paramos a por una taza de té muy necesaria.Buen servicio, las bebidas eran refrescantes y sabrosas, un montón de tartas y aperitivos, no teníamos hambre, así que no prestamos mucha atención al menú de comida. WiFi gratis y un café labrador para mayor efecto. Animal muy relajado y en ese momento estaba haciendo un gran trabajo ocupando a un niño pequeño:)Volvería a ver cómo es la comida.

Popped in for coffee just off the train down. Friendly welcome and lots of space to sit. Coffee was exceptional, cannoli lovely but the ham and cheese pasty was more pastry than filling. Made a lovely change to the Costas and Starbucks of this world.

What in today and had a great vegan hot chocolate! They have almond, coconut, soya and oat milk so something for all! Great service, great atmosphere also!

Decent coffee and their Cannolis are to die for!

We visited twice once for a light lunch and the other for tea and cake. Our lunch of hummus, pepper and avocado wrap and mozzarella and tomato panini were lovely. The cakes on the second visit were exceptional and lovely big slices. We recommend the carrot cake and banoffee cake. I’ll definitely be back whenever we’re in Brighton.

I came to this cute little shop and had the most amazing latte ever! and a slice of triple raspberry cake, which was huge and when the waitress gave it to me she said: good luck with the cake when I saw it I thought that cake is bigger than the girl hahaha Really friendly staff, great bakery and perfect coffee.

Eight of us arrived en masse mid morning on a Saturday, and were served promptly and courteously; we were told there was plenty of space upstairs and could move tables around as we wished so we could all sit together. The coffees, teas and cakes were all excellent. Good price for this neck of the woods too.

Has mug of tea and flat white and delicious carrot cake. Clean, polite staff and generally very nice. Do vegan and fresh sandwiches etc. Made to order.

12.45; 20/07/18: Just bought a coconut and raspberry slice for £2.20. I walked outside and took a bite. It was dry to the point of being stale. I went back into the shop and complained to the woman at the counter. Her response (despite not even tasting the cake) was there was nothing wrong with the cake, and something to the effect that was how the coconut was. (I suspect that it was left out in the heat for too long causing it to dry out) I could see she had no interest in the poor quality of the product, and no understanding of customer service/staff responsibility. So I left the almost entirely uneaten cake with her.

Fantastic value and the pot of tea with slices of cakes were absolutely delicious. I had the treacle & ginger cake and my sister the coconut & raspberry, both so good we took some home for our family.

My visit didn't start well as I stood at the counter and waited about a minute for the waitress to finish tidying the countertop. I then waited quite some time - about 15 mins - for a ciabatta sandwich which was undercooked and not really ciabatta. The coffee was good though.

Flat white tastes like the beans are burnt, not just a dark roast. Had 2 slices of quiche which were unevenly heated, cold bottom and like warm elsewhere. Just not a great experience.

Plenty of seating (which is apparently rare around this area). The cake, coffee, and tea selection is good. Most importantly this place has fast, free WiFi!

My favorite cafe in the lanes! Not cramped and crowded like some others. Delicious flat whites and the best brownies, and tasty made-to-order sandwiches. Definitely recommend!!

I recently went to Jolliffes with some friends for the first time and had a delicious oat milk hot chocolate! Atmosphere was great and service was fantastic. Also had a lovely bakewell tart. Would definitely recommend!

What a shame that the young lady serving is so rude otherwise this would have been a great place. I have given three stars because the coffee was good as was the little pastry but having seen the reviews I wish I'd never eaten anything. I think i would have been straight on to the coincil if i had noticed rat droppings. If places want to keep their customers they need to cherish them. There is no room for arrogant disregard for clientele in business. And definitely no room for running a dirty establishment. I won't be going again.

Onestamente la vetrina è appetitosa e attrae creando grandi aspettative, questo rende però l'interno un tantino deludente... Molto spartano, a anche se l'idea della galleria d'arte sovrapposta al bar è decisamente piacevole.

I've been to this café several times over the last three years as it's in a very convenient location for shopping in North Laines and has free wifi. I usually only have a coffee, but on the last occasion I also had a slice of quiche. The staff asked me if I wanted it heated up, which I did, but when they brought it to me it was still cold in places. I was in a bit of a hurry so didn't ask them to heat it up more. The flavour was good though. Will still keep going to Jolliffes because of the location, but there are other cafes in the area with a better atmosphere - of course they are usually busier though so that's why I go back to Jolliffe's - there's usually a spare table.

I come into Jolliffes all the time with friends or alone! I love this place so much, does the best cannoli and Brie paninis! Staff are so lovely and friendly, especially Hannah, Gina and Trevor! Would recommend to anyone to work or chill!
