Seven Stars in Brighton and Hove

Homophobic venue claimed i was too drunk to get in after looking at my outfit. I had literally had two drinks. It’s unfortunate that places flimsy this exist

Not a great pub with a tired décor. My glass of wine was served in a dirty glass, other customers were vaping which seemed to be acceptable. They haven't bothered to update their Google info as they are listed as a real ale pub and even the bar person said that's not been the case for some time. Three stars is quite frankly generous as there is much room for improvement.

What delicious food and nice place! We regularly go to Brighton and this has become one of our regular cafes. The food is delicious. We do miss the truffle mozzarella bites that were previously on the menu (hopefully they will come back one day 😊)

Popped in for one drink, very quiet, lovely and clean, the bathrooms were very clean and so pretty!

£3.15 for a pint of Lime and Soda! Barman said yeah it is steep, I’ll check it’s the right price next time. Cheers!

Food was really good. Fish and chips didn’t come with thick cut chips, but other than that food was great.

Romi is the loveliest bar tender I’ve ever had. She was so nice and personable and the atmosphere and music was brilliant :)

It's one of Brighton's less busy pub's, felt it did not have a massive selection and played it a little safe.

Lovely place, beautiful atmosphere, Center of Brighton and just next to the famous lanes but... cold. Literally... I asked if the heating was on..someone said yes but it takes time... After an hour... Everyone sitting and drinking with their jackets on... Of course it's Saturday, people come and goes, not particularly carring if heating is on or not... Could easily stay for more drinks and food but wearing a jacket indoors it's not nice...

Went here on a Wednesday after work with some friends. We only stayed for a couple of hours for drinks and food. The service was very good and friendly. Our food arrived in good time and all arrived at the same time, despite the four of us ordering separately. My friend's food all looked good - tasty and proper portions. However, I had the fish & chips and I can only say that I was disappointed. Note to self - only ever have fish & chips in a proper chippy. It was a good portion and the food was hot. Lovely chips, minty peas, the lemon piece was charred (which was a nice touch) and homemade tartar sauce. But the fish was tough. Not overcooked or anything like that. It just didn't flake when I cut it. It might well have been frozen fish, which is fine but I have had nicer from Morrison's. Yes, I could have complained but it was a very vague complaint. I ate it all and it was nice but nothing more than that.

Fui aquí un miércoles después del trabajo con unos amigos. Solo nos quedamos un par de horas para bebidas y comida. El servicio fue muy bueno y amable. Nuestra comida llegó a tiempo y todos llegaron al mismo tiempo, a pesar de que los cuatro pedimos por separado. La comida de mi amigo se veía bien - porciones sabrosas y apropiadas. Sin embargo, yo tenía el fish & chips y solo puedo decir que estaba decepcionado. Nota para sí mismo - solo tener pescado y patatas fritas en un chippy adecuado. Era una buena porción y la comida estaba caliente. Encantadoras patatas fritas, guisantes de menta, el trozo de limón estaba carbonizado (que fue un buen toque) y salsa tártara casera. Pero el pescado era duro. No demasiado cocinado ni nada por el estilo. Simplemente no se descamó cuando lo corté. Podría haber sido pescado congelado, lo cual está bien, pero he tenido mejor de Morrison. Sí, podría haberme quejado pero fue una queja muy vaga. Me lo comí todo y fue agradable, pero nada más que eso.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere and friendly staff.

We had a recent trip here for a family Sunday lunch. The roast dinners were fabulous with a good choice for vegans and vegetarians. The only dessert available is a vegan chocolate brownie which was horribly dry and there's no coffee available at all. The service was, at best, indifferent. It felt quite unwelcoming.

Awful, rude and aggressive bar staff. I was out for a night out with my girlfriends last night. I ordered my drinks and the bar person misheard me. I told him one of the drinks was a mistake and he shouted at me and said YES U DID order this. It was simple mix up that could have been dealt with politely. Left a sour taste. Won't be going in there for drinks again.

Great atmosphere in this place, the customer service is great and the staff are friendly. The interior of this pub is beautiful. The food was good except everything was cold.

Went to seven stars yesterday for a roast lunch and absolutely loved it there! The staff were so kind and helpful, each one of them made the atmosphere in the pub a welcoming, fun, enjoyable place to hang out, whether it’s for a meal or drinks. Will definitely be going back!

Visited 10/12, we prepaid £180 for a Christmas dinner at 6pm. Went to order a coke and was asked for ID and told we had to leave by 7pm without it. The staff member (blonde woman with hoop earrings) was rude and had an attitude even before interacting with us. We were even told that the person without ID should go home, get it, and come back — completely unreasonable. Nowhere did it say we all had to bring ID for a dinner, especially when not ordering alcohol. We asked for a refund and said we would leave, but another staff member called a manager, who eventually extended the time we were “allowed” to be there. Alternatively, they expected the person without ID to leave. The experience was awful and that staff members service was appalling. We were made to feel unwelcome and will not be returning.

Busy city centre pub with a decent beer selection. It's not cheap but central Brighton isn't either. Food looked good but I didn't try. Worth a visit if in the area.

My sister and I made a pilgrimage here from the U.S., as our 3rd great grandparents ran the pub about 200 years ago. We happened in on a Sunday afternoon and enjoyed the Sunday roast along with l excellent service. Everything was delicious and top notch. On learning of our presence, the manager came and welcomed us. Thanks for everything, Seven Stars!

We attended the Seven Stars on the 03/11/24 at 18:45. We checked before hand if we could come in with our little boy (4 months at the time). We knew before we asked we would have to leave by 7, before we asked and we had dinner booked at 7 at the Ivy Asia. The looks we got from the staff made us feel so uncomfortable. I don’t drink because I am breastfeeding my little boy and it was our anniversary, so we wanted to celebrate, but I was not ready to leave him with anyone. He’s a chilled baby. Rarely cries. But we were stared at the whole time we were in there by the staff. We obviously left by 7 like we said we would, but we felt so unwelcome! We have lived in Brighton all of our life and regularly attend this pub. Will avoid it next time. Not nice being judged by strangers.

Came for some lunch. Whole place is decorated really well, decent enough bar area. Competitively priced for the area it's in. My only gripe was the BLT being served with salad bag rather than lettuce. Not really a BLT...

Always a great pub...one of my Brighton favourites

Had our anniversary dinner here and everything was all nice. Foodwise, we were satisfied with our orders. We ordered chicken roast and braised pork belly roast. The staff accommodated our last minute reservation. Disappointed where they reserved our table initially but we were transferred to a better one after. We had our drinks too and we were delighted they had Blue Moon. Our experience overall was great. We would come back here again.

Such a great time at this pub. Had a lovely fish and chips and then stayed on for drinks. They had an excellent DJ on in the evening and staff were great. Really helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

The table next to us had roaches in their food. They spoke to the manager and left immediately. Really disgusting as we'd just eaten.

I had some friends in last night who were seeming to enjoy themselves so after work I came by to have a drink and catch up, upon arrival I walked in and went over to their table, when the lady on the bar came over and told me she was going outside for a cigarette (which is fine I’m a waitress and work in hospo too so I completely get having a stressful day and just wanting one) but she proceeded to tell me she will be back in five and can serve me then. Which to be honest with you is really quite ridiculous as it would have taken like one minute to pour a pint. A gentleman who worked there walked in as she was saying this and started saying he could serve me to which she beckoned him outside and they both went outside to smoke leaving what seemed like a completely unmanned pub. Honestly never in my life have I had that happened and I’m really not a fan of reigning down on service workers because I am one and it is tough but honestly I was just so confused by the whole situation and how you can think that is okay? We left without getting a drink.

Boiling hot inside, toilets dirty. Strong smell of disinfectant as you walk in. Funnily enough, a good atmosphere inside!

Loved it! I had the Confit Chicken leg which was cooked to perfection with a beautiful creamy mash, greens and a lovey, rich gravy. The draft craft beer selection has a good choice, I opted for Electric Boogaloo and wasn't disappointed. Comfortable with a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.

Entró en necesitaba el baño, trajo 2 pts de cola de coca, ojalá no lo hubiera hecho, no me dijeron que el precio solo agitaba la máquina de tarjetas en frente de mí y pagué, me cobraron £ 10. 00 por 2 pts de cola, la comida no tiene sentido en absoluto. Evitaría este lugar en el futuro. Los tonos claros son sucios y polvo por todas partes. El personal está más interesado en interactuar entre sí que realmente charlar con los clientes. Los inodoros bien son así de pequeños un inodoro solo cabe allí y tienes que subir al inodoro hacia atrás para tener la oportunidad de cerrar la puerta. No estoy bromeando. Y mi compañero usando a las damas es peor debido a que la papelera sanitaria no tiene sitio. Evita evitar evitar.

My friends enjoyed most of their food but not the Nachos. I had to ask for water, there wasn't anywhere to help yourself. The room with the skylight is very nice, we came early evening when it was quiet.

Didn’t eat but came here Saturday of Pride weekend. Very lively, fun crowd dancing and singing to a live DJ. We stayed for a couple of hours people watching and had a great time. Top atmosphere.

I recently came here for my son’s birthday to get some drinks and food. We went to order at the bar and the gentleman that served us who was tall, tanned, dark hair and wearing a white tank top. was very abrupt and rude to the point I have come out of my way to write a review. He kept very angrily side eyeing us and angrily repeating/questioning our order back to us. We honestly couldn’t work out what we had done. when I looked at my partner to see if he was also feeling the hostile behaviour the bartender saw this and looked as me as if to say “what are we looking at” I explained to him I was just looking at him in disbelief of his attitude. We then placed our order and ate and left. Food was great but terrible terrible attitude from the Barman, probably won’t return.

Be Careful, they refuse to serve the full pint measure when drinking Aspalls cider, stating they have been told not to do so.

We were exploring the lanes area of the city and happened across this traditional pub. We decided to go inside for a drink or two and are glad we did as we had a great time there. It is a down-to-earth place with a nice atmosphere and very friendly service. The bar maid explained the different beers available including some from local breweries which were delicious and varied. it is fairly standard prices for the area but the pub has a lot to offer and we enjoyed taking a couple of stools at the window and watching the town go about its business.

Best pub with very vibrant atmosphere and they have live music as well which is the best part you can have with beer.

Everything you need from a pub. Chilled Sunday evenings with a live jazz band. Raucous Saturday nights where you can rub shoulders with seemingly everyone in town. Plenty of space for large functions but cosy corners for something more intimate. Friendly staff no matter the day. 7/5 Stars!

Had a Sunday roast here as well which was overall really nice.. only downside was the roast potatoes which were a little dry on the inside and not very fluffy. But otherwise was good value for money

Seven Stars kindly set aside the rear section of the pub for me to throw my other half a surprise party for about 50 people. We already love the pub but I have to say how helpful and hospitable they were for us. Everyone was happy with the music, food, drinks and atmosphere and it was the prefect venue for a 40th. They were even happy for me to bring in a token birthday cake. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this pub for a cheeky pint or to hold a celebration.

Sunday roasts was horrendous 😫 riast potatoes were not fluffy inside and still had skin on the gravy was sickly and too rich guessing it wasnt proper gravy and roasted beetroot with red cabbage is a no go . Stop trying to be fancy goid old fashioned roast with normal gravy is the best not red jus. Felt sick for a while after cracking on pork was delicious and meat cooked good.

Great place for a boozy night out, it's young tho, especially in a Saturday night, so lots of egos to deal with. Toilets were a bit grubby by 1900, which is typical for Brighton, but the staff were nice, so four stars for effort. Didn't eat, not sure if they do anything more than a pack of crisps 🤣🤣

Excellent, friendly service, and a bar with a couple of decent IPAs. The one I had was called 'Dreams', I believe, and was pretty dreamy. Also my mate liked the look of the vegan options on the menu but, sadly, she was in Northampton.

This is a fantastic place to chill out in the heart of Brighton. Very highly recommended for the ambience, the staff and the quality of everything they deliver.

It's geared towards a very young crowd at the weekend with music so loud you can't hope to have any kind of conversation.

Really yummy Sunday roast and the children's half portion of roast was even big enough for me! It had almost as many scrumptious caramelised vegs, just a bit less meat. Along a very cheesy creamy cauliflower cheese of course. I recommend the pork belly with the weird puffed crackling very crispy indeed. Oh and the decor is amazing plus they have live jazz every Sunday from 4.30pm. What's not to like?

Very useful area in town to find a meal and drink that is not too far away from the local buses and other things. A good collection of main meals and drinks and helpful waitresses there for stuff to order, not been before however would try again in another season

Big food and drink portions here though mostly a good time to come and have a meal of some sort, looking forward to coming here in the winter months as more stuff to try out.

Beautiful art deco style pub. I've seen it on a Sunday at noon when it's more relaxed and then again on a Saturday night when it's really loud and a bit more hyped up. Not great for a chat with a pal when it's like that to be fair. The Sunday roast looks really good. It's an institution. Just choose your moment.

Great pub went here for a couple of drinks before going to see Richard Ashcroft at the Brighton center. Great selection of drinks. Lovely, funky, decor, and on on a Saturday night that we visited some great tunes, wham, club tropicana followed by fools gold, the stone roses, music for all ages. I'm a young 49 year old, but felt comfortable in this laid back pub. Staff and bouncers were very friendly too. Will definitely go back here when we visit Brighton again.

This use to be a beautiful pub decorated to a high standard in an art deco style. Now it's run down and the furnishing are tired, lots of the original features have gone. Such a shame.
