Very flexible prices at Molly's Tearoom and antiques. Today 16/9/23 I went in for a mannequin that I had seen priced at £250 a couple of week ago. No price tag today, so I asked how much, the guy said £495. Now, was that optimistic price because I had a southern accent, I reckon that he assumed I was on holiday. I actually live in Teesdale not that far away. Definitely think he was taking the micky.

I visited here for a cooked breakfast a few months ago but have also sampled their great lunches over time and gave it the best rating possible and proclaimed to all those who would listen, that this is the best in the area. Unfortunately my recent visit didn’t live up to my own expectations. Ordering exactly the same full English cooked breakfast, I was served by the wonderful staff here and picked a table. I was the only one in a waited for the quality to be put in front of me. Unfortunately the presentation let it down straight away. I wondered what had been put on the plate and found it to be a large upside down mushroom. I’m not that picky but every one I’ve ever had was the right way up? …ok that might sound picky! The yolk had been broken while cooking so I got a yellow looking flat egg. One of the sausages was burnt which was left on the plate and the other tasted a bit strange, so was left too. The black pudding was also a little dry. Strange that I was first in on opening and yet these ingredients didn’t seem fresh or the quality I experienced previously. The bacon was superb though! Now here’s the strange thing about this place. I’m used to salt and pepper on the table or at least some of those little sachets to hand. When I got the breakfast I was asked if I wanted sauce. I got it and the guy walked away. Went to look for the salt and pepper. No salt and pepper. I asked at the counter and the staff member turned to the same guy in the kitchen if he had the salt and pepper and he said “I’ve already asked him” before turning to see me standing there. Now this isn’t new. Myself and the family have joked on other visits that the condiments must be on rationing. Overall, disappointed on this occasion, but it wouldn’t stop me from coming back for their lunches etc. the girl on the counter is superb and I’ve always found the ambience of the place good.

We took this way as a change from Barnard Castle, Middleton in Teesdale, Alston route. What a super drive through Stanhope and up lovely quiet roads in beautiful countryside. Hill and dale, valley after valley, rivers and burns and more stone barns than you can imagine. We just happened upon this eating place and decided that it might be the last option. We were glad we did. The staff were very friendly and helpful with a bit of humour which always goes down well. The loos are upstairs, period in style and immaculate. The whole building must have been Edwardian Tearooms and still retains many of the original features. Furnishings are “ eclectic “, I think that is the right expression. The food is homemade not the often seen homecooked. The latter is really factory food heated up like you get at Franky & Bennys. I had homemade Steak pie, very tasty and filling. I forget my wife’s choice but she enjoyed it. They had a new lady cook who took over the day before. On this experience we will be back. Aside from the food, most of the antiques seem to have disappeared except the ones we were sitting on. Don’t except to see the stuff shown in the photos, it’s not there unless they restock. Look forward to our next visit. Thanks.

My and my sister received excellent service from polite and kind staff here. Drinks were incredibly well made and we had an exciting and interesting menu to choose from. I definitely recommend the Irish rose syrup in an Ethiopian cold brew as it’s a lovely and unique flavour combination! Plenty of milk alternatives are offered for those who are lactose intolerant. Service is efficient and prices are really great! Homemade vegan and gluten free cakes are offered which is a rare find in Bishop Auckland. I couldn’t recommend the Fox’s Tale enough! Support this local business.

I had the full breakfast, my wife scrambled eggs on toast and we both had flat white coffees, all of which was delicious. The staff were lovely and the prices reasonable. Great view overlooking the Boating Lake

Fantastic breakfast with good quality ingredients and cooked to perfection. The staff are always friendly, attentive and make you feel welcome which is refreshing in this day and age. Have visited previously for meals also from coffee and cake so if you like quality cakes too then this is the place to visit. All in all highly recommended and excellent value for money.

An ideal place to grab a delicious coffee at the harbour in amble. Great to carry on and enjoy a walk around the pier.

I has been living in Portugal many years and I love Portuguese food and people because usually are friendly as was staff on this place. I was looking for a good coffee and I found a Portuguese coffee that was not cheap but great. After I eat a Full British breakfast that was correct. I miss bras cod, bife a Portuguesa and many dishes that I wish can taste here

I was thinking of coming here for ages for an English breakfast. I was gonna come with my mate from Finland but I got COVID. When I walked in the woman behind the counter was pretty rude. She seemed to have banter with everyone else. It was pretty cheap. £8 for a full English. When they brought the food it was a good plate of food. I asked for English mustard and was brought American mustard. I tried to use the knife but it was like some sort of trick knife. The fork would bend with a bit of pressure. Picture attached. The food was pretty poor. The sausages were pretty nasty. I wouldn't usually review a greasy spoon but there are limits. The cutlery was the deciding piece. A pretty unpleasant experience for a Saturday morning.
