One Up in Redcar and Cleveland

First time visiting and it will now be my go to cafe in Redcar. Really nice inside with uber friendly staff, very relaxing and warm atmosphere. Food, although a breakfast was well presented and tasty. Well done to the staff and see you soon.

Took my child for lunch here as a treat. The food was absolutely fantastic, and I can't say enough good things about the service from the waitress, she was friendly and professional, attentive without being over-bearing, and really went the extra mile with my child. Unfortunately the atmosphere and the meal in general were ruined by the behaviour of the chef/owner who sat down at the table next to us and loudly, and very publicly, berated the waitress for apparently having made a mistake with an order. This went on for a solid 10 minutes even though she had acknowledged the mistake and apologised. The poor woman had to stand there and put up with this, while still serving customers and somehow remaining composed and continuing to do her job. Honestly the way he acted in front of his customers was unprofessional, disrespectful and embarrassing to us, let alone the waitress (who behaved far better, more considerately, and more professionally than her boss). The whole experience ruined the meal and left us feeling angry, upset, and like we'd wasted our money. I've been here plenty of times in the past and always loved it. Unfortunately I don't think we'll be returning any time soon.

We love it here! Cosy & relaxed with sea views, if you’re lucky enough to sit at the window. We had a delicious breakfast, beautifully presented and very tasty! 😋 Staff are all friendly and attentive and we will definitely return!

First impressions were, it's obviously really popular and the surroundings are very nice. The waitresses were very attentive and friendly. Service was a little bit slow but it was a busy Saturday lunch time so to be expected. The food was good. The only thing that spoilt the visit was the attitude of the chef towards the 3 young waitresses. If you are going to have an open kitchen, where all the customers can see everything going on, treat the staff with a bit of respect. It's not an episode of Gordon Ramsey.

Sometimes over attentive staff can ruin an experience which is sadly the case today. I can absolutely appreciate being proactive and clearing tables etc throughout a meal as a staff member however being a former server myself i would never wait for each individual customer on a 8 table to finish a drink them take it then come back to take anothers plate then come back seconds later (and it really was very very fast and constant) to ask for more empties then squeeze in between people who were still eating to get an empty coke bottle and hover a plate of food over their head as they ate... it was just so excessive and was obvious the staff member just was waiting for something to do as she stood watching us all eating to the point my brother actually felt uncomfortable and that he couldnt look anywhere but the food. This really did put a dampener on the meal as we just felt the same server lurking around us every two seconds and to top it off were asked about the birthday cake infront of the persons who birthday it was. Overall felt almost rushed put of the establishment and a true shame. The food was delicious and the view was stunning, really could have been a positive visit if not for the above.

An absolute gem of a cafe which I discovered by accident 👍 I come here once or twice a week for their full English breakfast. Their food and service is impeccable, worthy of a visit 😁

Yet again a fantastic breakfast. Love the eggs benedict especially with smoked salmon. Staff are always friendly. Can't recommend enough.

Our usual go to brunch place is closed for refurbishment so we thought we’d give One Up a try. Turned out to be a good choice. I had the full breakfast my wife poached eggs on toast accompanied by 2 flat whites. My breakfast passed the sausage test and the flat whites passed my wife’s exacting test. The staff were all great. This could be our new to go place for brunch.

Lovely place. We had a full English breakfast and a vegetarian breakfast. We both found that you could tell that all ingredients were high quality and the food was cooked perfectly. Lovely friendly service and relaxing surroundings overlooking the sea front. Would thoroughly recommend and we will be back.

Don’t think there’s a better food place in teesside never fails to impress. Great food great service every time. The home cooked chips are unreal

Excellent food, we've tried nearly everything on the menu and can't fault anything. It's all delicious. A much needed bistro in a lovely position. The place is spotlessly clean. The open grill means it's open for all to observe and the attention to serving the food is immaculate. I would recommend One Up to anyone, and it's certainly our go-to place, whether as a family or with friends. We're never disappointed.

Absolutely spot on here and definitely be returning again. Staff were super friendly and the breakfast was delicious I would recommend this place to everyone 😁
