Although there were cakes, none were labelled whether they were vegan or not. It’s a shame to have to ask in so many places we go just because we eat a plant based diet. In the end, we just had a drink without cake because we didn’t want to ask and hold up the queue.

I wondered why this first floor cafe was not full at peak lunchtime in July. Maybe it our choice of food but the cheese toastie looked horrific and my wife confirmed that it tasted like it looked - a level of crudity that only ‘Desperate Dan’ would appreciate. The cheese scone was no better - more of a sponge than a scone and it was red hot (presumably microwaved) and nobody asked when ordering whether we wanted it heated. The tea was OK and to be fair the soup, ordered by the next table looked to be OK I may have been slight generous with awarding two stars but one would have been slightly harsh.

Called in here mid afternoon and had tea, coffee, scone and cake which were all very nice. The staff were pleasant and friendly and they have a lovely selection of home made food to choose from which all looked very appetising. Would definitely recommend.

We visited in the spring and I had the BEST raspberry and white chocolate blondie. I actually wanted to go back just to try it again and I wasn't disappointed, plus this time it was a bit bigger! Absolute perfection, never take it off the menu please! The gentleman who served us was lovely, big smile on his face and very polite, a credit to the business! Thank you :)

We visited as part of a day out including the Etal and Heatherslaw railway. Housed on the first floor of an old mill building, the cafe seemed clean enough and welcoming. Despite arriving at an early lunchtime the soup wasn't ready ( customers were still being told this when we left 45 minutes later ) but we still found something to have from the quite limited menu. In fact I asked for something that wasn't on the menu and they were happy to oblige ( they had the ingredients on other items, but not in my combination - Baked potato with bacon brie and cranberry ) . Top marks for flexibilty. The food was served quickly and was very nice, even the picky 11 year old with us was satisfied. A pleasant stop, although very much a drink and light lunch sort of place, the quality and the staff were excellent.

Lovely little tearoom with a relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff. I was preparing myself to only have black tea, but was astounded to learn that they had vegan soup, sandwiches and scones, with vegan spread and jam. I also learnt that they offer gluten-free cake too. Fabulous!

A wet midweek day looking for somewhere for a coffee and a light bite, we found Boes. Not an obvious place to stop, but worth popping in. Small area by the serving counter/kitchen, but additional seating upstairs I believe. Coffee, sandwich and soup were freshly prepared and served by friendly staff.

Stumbled upon this little cafe and was pleasantly surprised. We arrived late for lunch but the young woman that served us couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. Had a terrific toastie and great coffee. I’d love to go back and sample the cakes one day - they looked amazing.

We had been out doing the Halloween trail and went in to get out of the rain for a little bit and boy did we find the best home baked cakes and scones the staff where very busy but took the time to speak and say hello and the cake omg they where amazing my nephew said it’s the best cheese scone he has every tasted and he didn’t finish all his cake coz u get a big slice so he was given a little box to take it home for later amazing little gem hidden away but worth going to find if ur in the area of Heatherslaw mill on Ford and Etal estates. We will defo be back.

We were recommended this place by the lady in the museum in etal.. she advised good food and dog friendly, and it was. We had to go up to top floor which was fine, some nice quirky seating. We ordered bacon and sausage paninins ,and the ham ciabattas,vteas, ginger beer and 2 pieces of homemade cake, around £47 for 4 of us. The service was good and swift..and sandwiches were superb.. Lovely cake too x

We went to Boes on spec and it was superb. Exactly the right kind of food for a light(ish) lunch, beautifully prepared and served quickly. We had panini and ciabattas between us and they were up there with the best I’ve tasted. The surroundings were really good and the service very friendly. The dogs were welcomed and made much of. Thoroughly recommend!

I visited this gorgeous little cafe on 4th oct with my hubby and mum , we arrived early but the lovely lady said we were welcome to come in , we had bacon pannins that were out of this world , two teas and a coffee again they were perfect the lady was super friendly and told us lots of information of places we planned to visit , everything is home made and looked beautiful, we will definitly return x

Dirty tables poor service very long 20 minute wait after ordering then brought separately no condiments offered with food none on table staff barely grunt when one attempts to speak to them poor food stale bread via order some food items burnt some barely cooked atmosphere like the poor house (one assumes) won’t be going back

I am in a powerchair and arrived at lunchtime with two friends from Lincoln both in their 70's and 80's with walking difficulties. It was trying to rain and we were stuck outside getting wet. The manageress couldn't have done more to accommodate us she summoned staff with table and chairs and set us up for lunch in an adjacent building. Full marks go to The Manageress (sorry I didn't get your name) and to (hope I get this right) Makara who was very polite and most attentive.

Warkworth has a small nucleus of great places to eat, and we'd never tried Bertrams, so we went. It was a no brainer given the quality of other reviews. The only downside was that we had to get in and out early so were nearly the first people in hence little "atmosphere" but that was our agenda not the restaurant, and we were there for the food... ... which was first class. Superb hake served with a beautiful herby crab pate and dauphinoise potatoes. The flavours were immense and everything was cooked to perfection. You notice the difference with real quality and top chef standards and this delivered for me. The lemon meringue dessert was the proverbial icing on the metaphorical cake. Superb.

Stayed here for business on more than one occasion and the staff are all very welcoming and friendly. The food is excellent. The rooms are so spacious and the beds are so comfy clean and the staff really can’t do enough for you would recommend this very welcoming friendly place.I do travel a lot for business and stayed in a lot of different places and this is one of my favourites.
