Great food, friendly service. A perfect stop for brunch when travelling

Carnabys provided wonderful catering for us for a family birthday party. The mix of cold meats and beautiful vibrant salads was a big hit with our guests!

Catering excellence ! We used Carnaby’s for private catering for my dad’s 70th birthday after they kindly stepped in at the last minute when we were let down by our venue. Extensive menu choice of delicious salads to choose from. All beautifully presented. Many of the guests had not tried the food from Carnaby’s before and my Dad said people were still coming up to him the week after the party talking about how much they had enjoyed the buffet and how well cooked the meat was and how tasty the salads were. Large portions so we still had some yummy leftover to enjoy the next day! Would highly recommend.

Carnaby's has been our go to place for lunch as it is on our way home to Belford off the A1 and the food is always amazing!! Ordered takeout for a lunch with the girls which turned out great! Everybody loved the salads I chose (honey sesame, curried roasted cauliflower and a beetroot goat cheese) plus sandwiches and dessert too! I would definitely recommend their takeout service but most of the time will eat in. Really lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and love to browse in the gift shop section.

Food always delicious and great child friendly atmosphere

Lovely place to visit - the food is delicious- gorgeous array of fresh salads, sausage rolls and hot food. The coffee and cake is a lovely treat. Kids love playing in the garden, and on wet days in the cosy kids corner by the fire. And what’s better than a look in the shop on the way out- where I always find things to buy - clothes and gifts.

Great family run business. Delicious food, beautiful shop and an all round lovely atmosphere. I will be back again and again!

Dropped into this clean and spacious restaurant on my way up the A1. My bacon sandwich was well filled and served in fresh bread, The flat white coffee did not disappoint either, and came from a proper espresso machine, There was a good selection of cakes etc. on offer. There is a gift shop within the restaurant.

Amazing breakfast. Clean, tidy and good drink selection too. Toilets were spotless, good play area for kids (inside and outside).

We have been to Carnaby’s numerous times, it’s our favourite local breakfast place, we have visited occasionally for cakes and hot drinks and the odd takeaway. We are always pleased with our food, the coffee is great and the staff are friendly and efficient. Everything on the salad counter looks amazing and we will return soon to try lunch.

Had a wonderful lunch on Friday. It is lovely returning after a few years gap, and find the food and service was as good as ever. The salad selection is fabulous. Great cafe with an excellent selection of original cards, clothes and gifts. Thank you. We will be back.

Easy to find, huge car park, great service, perfectly cooked breakfast

Waited 10 minutes for this cafe to open but then decided not to order after interacting with the staff. Also says it’s dog friendly, but not really. Decided to go up the road to Guru, best decision ever

Brilliant homemade food, fabulous friendly staff, highly recommended

Stopped here a couple of times for breakfasts and take away cake. Larger than expected inside and the tables have lots of space between them which is a welcome change. Service is friendly and the food arrived quickly. All the food we've eaten in fresh has been really tasty, there's a good variety too. Unfortunately we have been disappointed with the cake which is often dry, as if it is a few days old.

Just off A1, this was a random choice for me and my friends. Slightly quirky show. Friendly staff. But was sets is apart was the excellent choice and quality of food. Can wholeheartedly recommend.

Another trip north, another wonderful meal at this favourite restaurant. It's our 'go to' stop off place and never disappoints. We were too late for the breakfast menu but the lunch menu is so extensive we struggled to decide what to have. In the end he had the Ploughman's Sandwich and pronounced it 'delicious'. I had the smashed avocado with the bacon topping and it was beyond delicious, absolutely scrumptious. The success of this place could be seen by how busy it was!

This please is fabulous. I just had a delicious sweet potato fritata and aubergine salad on my long trip to Scotland. I couldn't have asked for a better place to have a break.

Great place for a light lunch, with a small shop selling local craft items. We stopped here while on a long drive home from Suffolk, so this was a welcome stop off. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly

We had such a great time at Carnaby’s Cafe. The breakfast was absolutely delicious—everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. The coffee was perfect and really hit the spot. The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff made us feel very welcome. It was the perfect place for a relaxing morning together. We will definitely come back again!

The breakfasts are to die for. All tastes are catered for.

Had two lovely meals here on a recent trip. Both very good quality ingredients and very tasty. Good value for money too. Ambience a little lacking, it's very echoey and a bit cold feeling inside and rhe hard paved garden could do with some tubs and/or hanging baskets. Just to make the surroundings a bit nicer. The most important bit though is the food and service were both great.

We have been to Carnabys both personally and as a business for years now. We use Carnabys for the lunches on our surf camps and retreats that we run locally - our guests love them without fail. We regularly put in big orders - the food is always great, presented and organised beautifully, they have never made even the tiniest of errors in our frequent and large orders. They are always able to cater to varying dietary restrictions. Super impressed with the service and they are so reliable and friendly. Hands down the best cafe in the local area - so thrilled to have them on our doorstep!

We visited Carnabys for lunch whilst on holiday following a recommendation, and we were certainly not disappointed! The food was excellent and at very reasonable prices. Our choices of quiche and fritatta, both accompanied by beautiful salads from a wide range, were tasty and fresh. I would highly recommend. For once, we resisted the cakes, but they all looked gorgeous and cut to generous sizes.

Interesting and tempting menu with reasonable prices. Simple and clean decor. Not particularly atmospheric but a bus load of tourists from a Surrey branch of Waitrose provided some amusement.

Easy to find from the A1 as signposted from the south. Arrived for lunch and decided to choose the flatbread with hummous and mediterranean veg. My auntie had the chicken and avacado wrap, both were delicious and portions were large.Was quite tempted by the various interesting salad choices and by the smell of neighbouring tables chips. We sat inside, which was fairly busy for a misty Monday in September. OUtside we noticed a children's play area and numerous ride-on trctors for toddlers to play on. Will definitely return to sample more delicious food.

One of our regular visits when in Northumberland. Excellent fresh and varied food to choose from. A popular cafe / restaurant. Plenty of seating. Good play area outside for the children. We've never been disappointed in any visit there . Some interesting craft and clothing items in the other half of the cafe!

What a wonderful place to have a delicious breakfast.

We found this by chance on our journey on the A1 and so pleased we did. Alongside the usual sandwich type fare the counter contained a wide array of tasty salads, quiches, fritatq and sausage rolls. There were veggie and vegan options too. I had sweet potato and whipped feta crostini (delicious) whilst the hubby opted for a cheese ploughman’s. Lunch was so good we bought takeaway salads for our ownward journey.

Ordered a ploughman's lunch,what I received was a processed cheese and processed ham sandwich with a tiny piece of salad leaf. Very disappointed worst Ploughman's ever

We really enjoyed this place and the garden. Had a lovely lunch, would fully recommend to anyone!

I had poached eggs on sourdough toast with hollandaise and rocket. It was absolutely delicious. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the sauce rich in flavour. The flat white was lovely too and l took home some cake for later. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the cafe/shop was a relaxing environment to be in. I would definitely come again if l'm in the area and would highly recommend. 😊❤️

Wow, what a great space. Popped in for breakfast with my little boy, Staff were lovely very welcoming. Coffee was great and breakfast was perfect!! Definitely returning, child friendly, great all rounder- on the pricier side but well worth it.

Called in for breakfast with the missus and two kids and it was spot on. Price around average. Little play area outside for kids. Nice and clean and tidy on the inside. Just off the A1.

Cafe and coffee fabulous. Atmosphere not so, I happen to be an ex relation of one of the staff, I said hello to this person as I walked in and then they disappeared to the kitchen, although staring at me ( together with other kitchen staff) and peering through the kitchen hatch and sniggering to each other, also looking through the kitchen door window to see what I was doing constantly. I felt so uneasy, finished my lovely cup of coffee and left. Whilst working, personal feelings should not come into how you treat customers, extremely disappointed at such childish behaviour.

Spot on! We were staying down the road from here and needed somewhere for breakfast when we checked out. We were not disappointed! The food was fabulous and the staff were extremely friendly. The only downside was it is a push button coffee machine which massively let them down as my husband is a bit of a coffee snob and so he just had tap water.

Popped in for lunch on a Saturday. We both had salads, both meals were a decent size and good quality. Nice outside area, dog friendly, where we could eat. Recommended.

Best full English breakfast. Lovely coffee. Who could ask for more? We love this spot on our trips 'north' and back home again. The service is always good, the range of food entices and it's just so handily placed next to the A1.

Just visiting the area to see our baby granddaughter, what a lovely place,food was excellent and so was the service,lovely menu. A nice outdoor area for the children to play.we ate lunch outdoors in the sunshine. Will definitely call again when we are in the area. Highly recommend.

Stopped in for a late breakfast and was very impressed. Excellent food with great affordable choices. Very clean and tidy with welcoming staff.

Definitely, well worth the stop. Good fresh real food, would highly recommend, rather than these fast food outlets. A great out door space for children. There's also a small gift /clothes shop in the entrance . Spacious and light. A real gem.

Lovely lunch stop on the A1, delicious fresh food.

My son prefers this to the Chilli in Otley as it has a large play area as well as parking and excellent food.

If you are looking for somehere to stop off on the A1 between Newcastle and Edinburgh you might be struggling. This place is great. A nice cafe with a small gift and ladies clothes shop with parking and toilets. Good coffee. Excellent breakfasts. Clean and friendly.

2nd time we've been. We stopped for breakfast on our way to Scotland.. Excellent freshly cooked food at good prices.. Will be back.

Dirty cutlery, dirty cup, asked for a fresh orange juice-got a bottle of juice from concentrate, waited for our food for a long time, service wasn’t friendly.

Best place to stop on A1 and a lovely cafe for just a trip out for breakfast or lunch. Fantastic coffee. Awesome brunch menu and fancy sausage rolls etc. Lovely salad lunch options too. Kid friendly with toy table and outdoor play area. Dogs outside only sadly but understandable. Good disabled toilet and baby change facilities. Lots of seating, lots of parking. (Easy to miss it when southbound - follow Brownieside signpost).

Best cafe ever! Ok, that’s a big statement but it’s the best I’ve been to. Down to one simple thing. The food is amazing. Salads were amazing (cauliflower and chickpea 5⭐️). Curried chicken wrap was beyond all expectations. Shame it’s a 5 hour drive away.

Excellent place. Loads of staff so you don't have to wait forever and plenty of free parking. Large and airy place with seating and tables that are spaced apart so you don't feel cramped. Very relaxing atmosphere and the selection and range of foods were excellent. The staff in the back are doing a good job here coming up good quality cafe style food. Would definitely return.

A great, surprise find straight off A1. Delicious looking homemade food, and vege mini breakfast was lovely.

A nice cafe, just off the A1. Plenty of parking, and a small gift shop area as you enter. It feels like a brunch place, however the burgers and baguettes are big, and come with plenty of chips, enough to fill up anyone. Also with checking out the salad bar for more options that are not listed in the menu.

I had coffee and a brownie. You order & pay at the till, and your order is brought to you. But. But! you then have to get up again to collect your cutlery! You're either a self service or you offer the whole service. The place is bland, little if any atmosphere, the staff more interested in catching up with their lives. The double expresso was OK, tho smaller even than usual, so I used a bit of the extra hot water I often ask for. The brownie was delicious, and a good size. The 'shop' is dark, possibly to obscure the ridiculous prices. I can't imagine there's much turnover of stock. Not somewhere I'd bother with again.

Really nice! The breakfast(s) are a cut-above and, though the prices reflect that, you won't be disappointed. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean and airy indoor shop and restaurant area. Didn't use the outside play area but looked great for children and those immune to North of England weather vagaries.

It's a great place but can be very noisy in the back area. Not the place to go with anyone with a hearing difficulty!

Lovely cafe to drop into whilst travelling up A1, food lovely and reasonable prices

Stopped here by chance on our journey and we got lucky! We had the spiced brisket with crushed avocado and chips and it was heavenly! We had been pondering what we would be having for dinner but we don't need to worry about it! Lovely chips as well. Very good sized portions, extremely tasty, delish coffee and very friendly service at a very reasonable price. Can't fault anything at all! Will perhaps be stopping again on our long trek home! :) A year later and we were back! This time for pulled pork in a brioche bun and chips, and also a cheeky falafel wrap. Still wonderful and still no need for dinner!!

One of our favourite stops. All the food is very good quality and it’s a nice change to be able to get healthy food whilst travelling.

Lovely food. Sheltered warm sunny outdoor seating for those that want it. Plenty of room indoor space. Lovely service - quick and efficient. Menu is interesting and food excellent quality. What more can you ask for…. Ok then they a lovely shopping area too!

Had a superb lunch here. The lunchtime sandwiches are delicious. The staff are polite and friendly. There's a good outdoor play area for younger children so parents can relax with a paper and a brew.

What a lovely find! Gorgeous food. Plenty of tables inside. Small outside area with tables and play equipment for kids. Spacious cark park. Few gifts - but quite pricey!

Perfect on every level. Plenty of big toy trucks for my two year old son to to sit on & play park area was a nice addition .

Came here for coffee two days ago and it was so nice we stayed for lunch and have come back again for cooked breakfast again this morning. The restaurant is spacious inside and lots of room outside too for children to play. ( small play...

As other reviewers with dogs have said, this place is most definitely not dog friendly. God forbid you even step foot through the door with a dog, you are stopped and pointed to walk outside to find a seat. It is a shame as looks...

Returned for the first time in a few years and wasn't disappointed. Lunch on way back north with my 8y old daughter. Delicious food, excellent speedy service. Perfect poached eggs. Daughter enjoyed the outdoor play area. No complaints at all.
