I have travelled all around the world and never tasted a better vegan cake than the homemade one here. Came back again for breakfast and that was super too. The owner and the waitresses were delightful people just to top it off plus an obvious good vibe atmosphere from the locals. Great job!!

Stayed nearby for a holiday and I was genuinely surprised how doggy friendly this place is. I highly recommend anyone in the area stop off and grab something to eat and drink! I tried the breakfast stottie sandwiches and was not disappointed. The pooch was also a fan of the sausages. Thank you making our holiday extra special!

**Cafe Review: A Coastal Gem in Whitley Bay** Nestled along the stunning coastline of Whitley Bay, this beachfront cafe is nothing short of a hidden gem. With its prime location offering unobstructed views of the North Sea, the cafe provides a perfect blend of scenic beauty and culinary delight. It’s an ideal spot for both locals and visitors who seek a tranquil yet vibrant place to relax, eat, and enjoy the fresh sea breeze. **Atmosphere and Ambiance** The cafe’s atmosphere is one of its most compelling features. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by the warm and inviting decor that mirrors the coastal charm of Whitley Bay. The interior is a harmonious mix of rustic and modern elements, with weathered wood, soft lighting, and nautical accents. Large windows ensure that the view of the beach is always within sight, making it a perfect place to unwind whether you're sitting inside or on the spacious outdoor terrace. The ambiance is relaxed yet lively, with the sound of waves crashing in the background adding to the overall serene environment. The staff contribute significantly to the welcoming atmosphere, offering friendly and attentive service without being overbearing. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick coffee or settling in for a long, leisurely meal, the cafe manages to make everyone feel right at home. **Food and Drink** The menu is a delightful mix of classic British favourites and contemporary dishes, all prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast is particularly popular, with options ranging from hearty full English breakfasts to lighter choices like avocado toast and granola with fresh berries. The pastries are freshly baked daily, and the scones served with clotted cream and jam are a must-try. For lunch, the cafe offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, and more substantial meals. The seafood chowder, made with local catch, is rich and flavourful, providing a perfect complement to the coastal setting. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available, ensuring that there’s something for everyone. The portions are generous, and each dish is presented with care, reflecting the cafe’s commitment to quality. The coffee here is another highlight. Sourced from a local roastery, it’s robust and full of flavour, making it an excellent accompaniment to any meal. The cafe also offers a range of teas, smoothies, and freshly squeezed juices. For those in the mood for something stronger, there’s a carefully curated selection of wines, beers, and even cocktails. **Service and Experience** The service at this Whitley Bay cafe is exceptional. The staff are knowledgeable about the menu and are more than happy to make recommendations based on your preferences. They are attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that your experience is both comfortable and memorable. Lovely place full of eccentric and interesting bric-a-brac. Friendly, helpful staff and good service. Sadly our sandwiches were a bit disappointing. The bacon was chewy and overcooked, the sausages were a bit burnt on the ends although the middle bit was tasty and the fried egg yolk was solid . I was hoping for a runny yolk to make the sandwich less dry as I don't like sauces. However I found it all very dry. Lovely little cafe, shame about the sandwich.

We were welcomed, unflinchingly, for a welcome break from our cycle ride, despite being spectacularly muddy. (We did our best not to abuse this hospitality by containing the mud as best we could and clearing up after ourselves.) The coffee was good and stayed hot while we drank it. Each of our chosen breakfasts was well cooked and well presented. I went for an old fashioned bacon and sausage bun, which was delicious and came with a bottle of Heinz ketchup so I could lather it with as much red sauce as I liked. My fella's poached eggs and mushrooms were served, at his request, on ordinary toast rather than sourdough and decorated with pea shoots. Nothing was a bother to the lovely staff and the bill was very reasonable. I'll go again and have already recommended it to friends.

Food great as always, although avo toast is becoming a little too overloaded with other ingredients! Service however - diabolical. We live on the same street as the cafe so frequent it quite a lot. Each time we’ve been over the last year the new manager (I think that’s who she is, bob like brunette hair) has been nothing but rude. At first we accepted it as maybe she was having a bad morning, these things happen. As time has gone on it’s started to feel personal towards only myself and my wife. Every single other table gets greeted with a morning, how are you, idle chit chat, talking to the dog or children.. we barely get a hello. Our order is taken like it’s an effort, no please or thank yous and on our last visit our food was slammed to the table. We’re never asked if we’d like more drinks or need any condiments etc whilst everybody else around us has flowing conversation. It doesn’t seem to matter how overly friendly we try to be - it’s the same blank stare and attitude. It’s such a shame to have a local, great, cafe ruined by one person. We will no longer be visiting or spending our money here.

Dog Friendly but not customer friendly. Three sometimes four or five of us every Wednesday go for breakfast and have done for years even before the new owners took over. This week we were shown to a table for three but next to a dog (nothing against them) allergic and prefer not to if another table is free which there was. Every week there are two seperate individuals sitting on two tables of four. This week one of them wasnt there so asked if we could sit on the empty table. Quite aggressively were told no it was a table for four and we were three and was shown another table for three the other side of the dog. When I pointed out that she had already set a precedent of having one individual on a table for four and does every week then surely a three would be fine. After all there was no queue. She didnt like my attitude apparently perhaps it was my logic. We have put up with staff fondling dogs and having to ask them to sanitise there hands before serving our food as they hadnt, we have even had our order forgotten two weeks ago. Everyone makes mistakes but we cant forgive the attitude I presume of the owner to us yesterday. Her behaviour was totally unprofessional and sorry to say after this we shall not be back.

We visited at the weekend, we both had the build your breakfasts, when they arrived both bits of bacon were burnt to a crisp! The dirty beans were cold, the hash brown was soggy like it had been microwaved and the whole breakfast generally was very underwhelming. No table checks, otherwise I would have told a staff member. The staff looked miserable, had no craic and it was extremely expensive. I'll not be back. Shame, if it was ran by passionate people this place could be fantastic.

One of the best decisions of the day as it did not take long and in the waiting area we were able to view some of the cakes on display which looked delicious. I also noticed they had draft Moretti which is an addition since we last visited (pre Covid). The waitress was friendly and attentive as well as being extremely efficient. She showed us to our table gave us menus walked away long enough for us to choose and took our ordered. My wife ordered a cheese scone and I ordered a fruit scone with jam and cream. We were asked if we wanted them warmed up which we did and very quickly she returned with said scones plus the drinks we had ordered. The fruit scone I had was lovely and the jam and generous dollop of cream on the side of the plate was lovely. My wife said her cheese scone was equally nice and I thought really good value for money compared to other places along the coast. The place was full and had a constant churn as people tended not to linger but it was good to see people out and about on a cold January Saturday afternoon. It was nice to see the staff sanitizing each chair and table as people left and before others were invited to sit down. We will be back when we are next on a walk in the vicinity and will also wait if there is a queue as it is worth it.

Found this cafe quite by accident but went in as it was full. Soon got a table which was quickly cleaned by efficient staff. Good menu, proper home cooked food at very reasonable prices. All staff very good and friendly with visitors and locals alike. Hope to return again.

Warkworth has a small nucleus of great places to eat, and we'd never tried Bertrams, so we went. It was a no brainer given the quality of other reviews. The only downside was that we had to get in and out early so were nearly the first people in hence little "atmosphere" but that was our agenda not the restaurant, and we were there for the food... ... which was first class. Superb hake served with a beautiful herby crab pate and dauphinoise potatoes. The flavours were immense and everything was cooked to perfection. You notice the difference with real quality and top chef standards and this delivered for me. The lemon meringue dessert was the proverbial icing on the metaphorical cake. Superb.
