We walked to Hendon on the Wall, took 2 hours mostly uphill, so to find a 'proper' pub was great. We had a bar meal, chicken & chips were delicious and really hot. Apple crumble and custard was to die for. Friendly welcoming staff.

Unfriendly staff. Claimed they did not have a phone and proved very unwilling to help with a taxi situation that needed sorting. Did not order anything as a result.

Had a soup and a local ale. Enjoyed both of them. Delightful and quick. Even shot a game of pool.

Stopped by for a few beers when doing the Hadrianus wall walk. Perfectly placed along the trail and a good assortment of beer.

If you're reading this, chances are you're a tourist trying to find a suitable place to grab a plate and pint after a long walk along Hadrian's Wall. If that's the case, take this note as your sign that Three Tuns will serve you quite well in your much needed reprieve. The food is unapologetically standard pub fare that will set you right, but what really settles in once you walk into this old haunt are the incredibly friendly locals, top service, and a cozy ambiance only a well worn local public house can offer. Enjoy their assorted beers, strike up a conversation with the pride of their town Isaac who plays for Newcastle's rugby team while moonlighting as a barkeep, and enjoy yourself!

Very friendly, the chilli burger was lush, the beer was decent and 10% off the food bill if you're staying at Houghton north farm.

Very quiet when we first arrived for a drink - so we looked at the menu and decided to return for lunch after our walk. The food was good, the welcome freindly and didnt have long to wait. All good.

Called in on a Saturday for a late lunch and were greeted by a friendly chap behind the bar. Ordered veggie bangers and mash and a veggie lasagne. We found a quiet table so that our friendly dog would stay calm and not want to greet everyone in the pub, which was nicely busy. Food was great - good sized portions and piping hot. Recommend for anyone who enjoys a good pub meal.

Went on off chance for Sunday lunch with friends. Nice and friendly staff and good atmosphere. Great place for families. Sunday lunch options were beef, pork, or lamb. With a choice of standard or extra large, we opted for standard size. Service was swift, and dinners were AMAZING, proper Sunday lunch. 4 veg. 🥕 🫛 cabbage and turnip, with roast and mashed potatoes. A couple of Yorkshire puddings and lovely gravy, which was made properly. Overall, this dinner was the best I've ever eaten, tbh and friends thought the same. Will be my port of call when I want a Sunday lunch. The price for 3 lunches, 2 soft drinks and a beer was, to my surprise, only £36. I'm only sorry I didn't take a picture,but that was because it was so nice!!

Well. Was planning a light meal but ... no luck here. The largest meal I ate in all England ... and Scotland, so far. This remembers some country side meals I had in Portugal. Good times. Unfortunately the food was not very tasty and my stomach complained a bit the week after. Staff was nice, great atmosphere with music from the 80's, not the new rubbish music. Pretty quiet for a pub.

Simple but excellent home cooked food. I had bangers and mash and partner cottage pie. Both had lovely buttery mash and gorgeous gravy. Staff friendly and attentive.

Although the real ale was off had a lovely couple of pints of keg beer (Loom Pale ale)!

Great little pub. Menu is a good pub grub menu and prices are as you'd expect. First time I've been for 20 years and will be returning. Staff were fantastic.

Worker or owner was very rude to us, wasn’t open when it was supposed to be. Didn’t feel like a very homely establishment due to the workers hostile nature.

Pleasant country pub with friendly staff. Enjoyed watching the Newcastle United match on Sky Sports whilst there. They served a nice pint of Boddingtons; something that seems to be hard to get these days!

Lovely staff, food and atmosphere. The owner couldn't have done more for us. Up from the Wirral to play close house and couldn't have picked a better pub to go before we played. Highly recommend for food, drinks and an all round great time.

First time for Sunday Lunch. Service was excellent,food was hot and full of flavour. Gravy was ace. I had super size beef and lamb. Meat was so tender. Definitely be back. Excellent beer too

Called in for Sunday lunch. Pub is a little run down but staff were friendly and real ale good. Food was excellent with melt in the mouth beef, buttery mash and meaty gravy. I had a regular size which was fine for me but the large one I saw was huge. Will definitely be back.

Had supper here one night. Typical pub fare and I mean that in the best way possible. Great to get a decent meal in generous portions at good price. Veggie burger was good, chips and onion rings were better and pint was fantastic. Good service and atmosphere.

The man who done the quiz is one of the nicest guys I've met! Very accommodating and polite. Food is very good value, plenty of it and tasted awesome! sadly I didn't take any picture.

Hard to judge as it was a pit stop for us, not very busy, so lacked a little atmosphere. The photos give the impression it's a country pub in a little village but it's actually set at the junction of two busy roads. Pleasant lady who served us.

Not a restaurant but pub grub I was told on booking. It does what it says on the tin. Reasonably tasty curries but I suspect involves jars and a microwave. Two TV screens dominate the bar (silently but theme football transfer window with second by second countdown - scintillating!).

Excellent pub, one of my absolute favorites in the Newcastle area. We were two tired walkers from Bowness who had walk the Hadrian’s. The gave us all. Wonderful food, drinks and somewhere to sleep. Thank You!

We stopped by the Three Tuns on our Hadrian's Wall hike as we passed through Heddon-on-the-wall. Apart from being very hungry from the 15 miles we'd already hiked that day, their Sunday roast would have been wolfed down regardless. The service was very quick and efficient, we ordered one beef and one lamb dinner and it was amazing. Just like a proper home-cooked roast, warming and wholesome. For pudding, we shared a sticky toffee pud which was equally as delicious. A perfect ending to the meal. The staff were very accommodating to our need for endless glasses of ice water too! The price was great for the portions we got. Would definitely recommend anyone hiking Hadrian's to stop in to refuel and rehydrate!

Very nice helpful staff and surprisingly very nice lunch cheese n beef burger with trimmings x 2 and a lovely veg lasagne with side salad and garlic bread slices all at very reasonable prices. Coffee great too. The beer was well accepted by the gent we just had soft drinks all round very nice. Wooden seats a bit painful after a while but we did a lot of catching up so stayed longer than comfort allowed

We booked a table for Sunday lunch yesterday first time in this pub. The food was delicious, a very tasty, well presented Sunday lunch the Beef that I had fell apart and same with Lamb my husband had. You had an opinion of meats and also plate size, I had a regular but probably should of had a small as plate was still too much for myself. Desserts were delicious too especially the sticky toffee pudding choice of ice-cream or custard, I had custard very nice indeed. Staff were very friendly and welcoming Definitely recommend. 👍

We drive to Haltwhistle and back every weekend to/from our caravan and have passed this tiny pub a hundred times over the past year or two without stopping as we have 2 Patterdale Terriers. This Sunday we searched it and went for it and WOW what a surprise we got! THE best Sunday dinner EVER! The toon v spurs match was on OUTSIDE where we were told by 2 friendly locals it was very dog friendly so went in... The pic tells the rest but perfectly cooked n £11 for my meal n £24 all in, 5 slices of beef and one happy bloke having found somewhere that does proppa dinnaz! VERY covid safe and table service but a small pub with limited tables so do ring if hungry lol, highly recommended!
