Cannot fault this restaurant and bar, the food and service is outstanding. And the interior and decor of this old building is perfect. Not one to be missed.

What a great cafe,nice decor,lovely friendly staff,delicious coffee and scones,competitively priced.

This is our local regular spot for coffee, cakes, and lunch. The food is always tasty and piping when served. The carrot cake (and Lime & Blueberry cake) are to die for! The staff are all great, especially the lovely lady with red hair that is front of house most of the time (since been told her name is Caroline from one of the lovely guys) - she is always happy, smiley, and very sociable with all the customers - she is fantastic at her job! The tables are always cleared quickly even at the peak of the day. The general atmosphere is great, and I like it's the general buzz of conversation you hear rather than music playing away in the background like a lot of places. People are quick to post negative stuff online - be kind and post the good stuff too! ❤️

Really busy on Mother's day, but staff were really good getting the meals out. Food was really good and plenty of it. Reasonable prices too. Will definitely be returning.

Very comfortable bed (pillow blanket,..). Very calm. Top quality food and pub's staff. Very authentic. Well located. Top quality/budget rate. Even better than big hotel's brands if you look after a real british experience. A must. And thank you all staff's membership for their investment to achieve your satisfaction.

I had a lovely stay here, a lovely welcome on arrival, it’s a lovely old building with plenty of character. My room was cosy, it had everything required, walk in shower was very good, the bed was comfortable, halls were narrow but this will be down to the age of the property. I never experienced the food in the evenings but I will say breakfast was delicious. Don’t be deterred by the road, I could barely hear anything when in my room and this was road side. Overall, a pleasant stay, staff were lovely. Thank you.

Quality ingredients and service at bargain price!

Lovely atmosphere and food.

I was having an absolute mare. My van had locked me out and the temperature was dropping, still in my suit, dripping everywhere. The kind staff of the surf shop next door had been patiently (twas a little cold-brain-addled) helping me figure out a solution to the issue. Recovery blokes on their way, and with the surf shop closing, I was welcomed warmly into the cafe. Hot tea and some deliiiicious food were very kindly offered and gratefully accepted. Despite my stranded situation, I was cheering up rapidly thanks to the welcoming community and care of the staff. (and warming up thanks to the radiators and carefully placed space heater at my side) I cant thank you all enough, and I'm looking forward to my next visit to no end.

Whenever I'm in Durham I visit and have never been disappointed.

Absolutely amazing food. I have been recommending to everyone! Can't wait to go back. And, as a Boston Terrier Mummy. I definitely approve of the cushions 😂

We arrived without a booking and took a chance that we would get a table. The lunch rush was just finishing and we were shown to a cosy table for two. We had the 3 course set menu which was very reasonably priced. Glass of champagne and gordal olives to begin with. (Not included in set menu) and so glad we did. Huge chunky olives in a very nice piquant brine. What I noticed immediately was the interest shown by the staff, asking if we were celebrating anything and asked in a relaxed conversation, that wasn’t forced or felt like it was required. Just a nice genuine curiosity. Starters were presented superbly and cooked to perfection, which runs throughout all of our (ended up 5) courses. Rillette of salmon and wye valley asparagus. Both a delight to ingest. The wine selection was very very good. We opted for the picpoul de pinet. Pork tenderloin and halibut (supplement). Both agreed expertly cooked and finely presented. Amalfi possett. A rich set custard with a great zing. Desert wine. Coffee. And GnTs rounded off the afternoon. Hugely enjoyable and the staff were expertly buzzing around and paying particular attention to refilling wine glasses. Standard tip and a bit more added for the pleasant afternoon we had celebrating an early 25th wedding anniversary. Thank you so much. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite.

Myself and 3 family members had a coffee and lunch here the coffee was very nice but I have never had such tasteless poorly cooked food from even a burger van. Food was terrible and we all had separate things. Father has been ill later after the food… I won’t go into details.

Called on way back from Durham Uni visit. Food was great and high value we polished off the plates. Otherwise normal village pub setting and clientel
