Partner and I were here for the first time staff are very welcoming and polite, food is reasonably priced and is good quality and taste great would definitely recommend and come here again

Busy on a random Tuesday, quality food, massive portions and Papa Joe is a living legend. Definitely go along if you have an interest in local history - have a look at all the memoribilia and listen to Joe's stories.

The food was amazing. Both our meals were really good, and the price was reasonable. It was just a shame that the service was really poor.

The restaurant was very busy but the staff were friendly and the food arrived reasonably quickly. The selection of gluten free pizza and pasta is good with some very interesting pizza toppings.

Omg .. stuffed . Was on a work visit . Travelodge staff told me this place was good .. fantastic food good beer and a mixed bunch at the bar . Very friendly.

We have just come back from a weekend away in Newcastle staying at the Holiday Inn, we went in the Skiff Inn for lunch and also dinner both Friday and Saturday night. We go away a lot around the country but have to say this pub is our favourite of all the places we have been to, the staff are very welcoming and although we hadn’t been for 3 years, Laura O remembered us, and looked after us all weekend, reserving us the table we asked for both nights. All the staff are really friendly and helpful. The food is amazing and the homemade chips are to die for, I had steak on Saturday night and was cooked to perfection, hubby had the giant Yorkshire pudding. The desserts are lovely too. The prices are very reasonable and can’t wait to go back again next time we visit Newcastle

Had the most amazing meal here tonight the staff are fabulous and the owner when asked him how old was the pub ... because it is just full of character he went out of his way to show us pictures of the pub when it was first built and tell us the history it was amazing. Steak and Guinness pie best I have ever tasted. Absolutely 5 stars 🌟 🤩

The Skiff Inn is a family-friendly, vintage pub that specialises in traditional pub-grub and Italian cuisine alike. The eatery has a nice, chatty atmosphere with vintage decor and plenty of seating. I ordered the garlic mushrooms on ciabatta bread, the skin-on fries and the pork belly. The garlic mushrooms were creamy and juicy and paired perfectly with the bread. The pork belly portion was enormous with a kind helping of gravy and a large Yorkshire pudding. The skin of fries were my favourite. Fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside, seasoned to perfection and paired with a sweet mayo sauce. Would happily eat these on its own! Service was sweet and efficient. Our server came back around mid-meal to check on us which was a lovely touch. Extensive drinks menu and dessert choices, plus on-site parking. Would recommend! - P.R

Really busy on Mother's day, but staff were really good getting the meals out. Food was really good and plenty of it. Reasonable prices too. Will definitely be returning.

Had mince and dumplings and have never seen dumplings so small! They were a little bigger than marbles. Very disappointed. If I go again this is one meal I will definitely ignore.

Me and my partner came at 12:10 today, we were welcomed by a lovely lady who showed us to our seats and took our orders. The food took about 20/30 mins which was very reasonable. My boyfriend ordered the mixed grill and i ordered the chicken Kiev. The food was absolutely amazingly delicious, with nice big portions. There was so much taste in all of it. We were made to feel very welcome. Before I left I went to the toilet. They were nice and clean and smelted amazing, we will definitely be returning soon.

I must be the world’s fussiest eater, yet I could not find a fault with The Skiff. The food was absolutely delicious!! Staff were really attentive, and the full atmosphere was very pleasant! Also great value for money. Yes, I would highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a fantastic hidden little gem of a pub, Called in for some food while working away and straight away made to feel welcome. Had a couple of drinks while deciding and went for the mixed grill. ( you will not be disappointed) it was amazing better than miller n carter est est est and black house all in leeds. The staff were absolutely on point and so reasonable priced i felt like we robbed them. If you don’t call on here and try the food you’ve missed out on a culinary delight.

Really delicious Sunday roast. Couldn't fault it, although I personally don't like onion & the leek & cabbage was not for me. Everyone of our 6 party loved their dinner. The only let down was the cheesecake, which definitely was not a traditional one. My daughter & I thought it had wafers for a base rather than a biscuit. However, this was recognised by the staff when I paid the bill. Staff are brilliant.

Years since I've been here but staff were lovely and the food was excellent. Good portions and proper pie!

Every visit to Gateshead is a visit to Skiff Inn. Close to plenty of hotels in an area you would never believe such a great place existed there. Food unbeliveably good staff fantastic the place is cosy in part and spacious in another part. The menu is excellent - something for everyone. I dont really know how you describe this place it is all so good !! Oh yes quantities no good for dieters lol. A brilliant restaurant

After the chef didn't get either of our orders correct. (Allergies) spotted before eating food. The manager couldn't apologise enough. Was recooked. I asked for nothing burnt and sausages on my mixed grill might as well of been cremated again he took one away. To show the chef. We were then told the meal was on the house. It's not my intention, but greatly appreciated. We have eaten several times here before never encountering a problem. Although the night was just as busy as any other night. We prebooked as we always. This has not put us off returning..

Was in Newcastle for work and we were staying at the hotel right next door. The lad on reception recommended the skiff inn to us, so we thought we would give it a try. We went there the 2 nights. Food was amazing. First night I had the giant Yorkshire pudding filled with veg, mash and Cumberland sausage. The portion was massive! I couldn't finish it all. Of course, there was room for pudding.. I had the white chocolate profiteroles again no complaints, they were delicious. 2nd night I went for the buttermilk chicken burger and the sticky toffee pudding... again portions were a good size and food tasted lovely. Highly recommend and will definitely go again if I am back that way again.

Went with family and really enjoyed the food a lot of which I believe was homemade. The desserts not only look but are delicious the service was prompt and friendly. Would recommend a visit.

Absolute gem of a place. Soon as we walked in, had a good vibe from the get go. The waitresses were lovely and very friendly! The food... man the food was positively sublime! Some of the best food I've ever had. It's extremely rare i struggle to finish a meal but the Giant Yorkshire Pud ended that streak 🤣 Beautifully crafted and was genuinely shocked by the size of it when it arrived! 100% recommend that if you visit 💪 You definitely wouldn't get all that for £12.95 down south!!! If I'm ever in Newcastle again, will definetly pop in for more

Stopped off for some dinner after a long day of shopping over at the metrocentre, from opening the door, to leaving, the staff and service was fantastic, staff were very friendly and helpful. When we ordered food there was a good variety available, we ordered 2 fish and chips and a jalapeño popping burger, when the food came the portion sizes were huge and very well presented, I wasn't sure if I should eat my burger or climb it, the burger itself was at least an inch thick and very tasty, the fish was fresh and was the best fish my daughter had tasted, she ate the majority of her meal cause it was so good, I was really impressed. We didn't have room for pudding but one of the waiters gave my little one an ice cream to take for later, it was in a character tub which was lovely. We would highly recommend, amazing food, great service and very good value for money.

We enjoyed an excellent meal here when staying at the holiday Inn express. We were greeted and seated quickly.I started with mini Yorkshire puddings that were delicious,my husband had potato skins .I followed with mince and dumpling and my husband had meat pie. Both meals were served promptly and were piping hot . Both very large portions. The waiting staff were attentive and helpful and overall a it was a good experience. We've been before when staying at the nearby hotel and the standard of food and service is consistently good.

Food can be good, service is good, parking is a nightmare! Place can be too busy, so if you want to go at rush hour try and book beforehand.

My girlfriend and I had a beautiful meal, and drinks. Food was fantastic. Staff were courteous and very helpful. Everything at a very good price. Would go again

Great food. Lovely little pub. Good selection of alcoholic drinks. The pie chops and mushy peas are really good. Thick succulent pieces of meat and a lovely pastry, which is homemade as we're the chips and peas. Burgers are nice and tasty. Lasagne is big and comes out very hot and freshly made. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend a visit.

Was visiting my family from Canada and had my first Guinness Steak pie. It was AMAZING! The fries, a.k.a. chips were fresh, homemade, and perfect! Gravy was super yummy!!!!!! Definitely will be back to try the Italian dishes that are highly recommended and the Yorkshire pudding. The pizza looked delicious, too!!! Was totally shocked and happy at the bill! It was so crazy inexpensive!!!!!

Online pics don't do it justice. Very efficient and friendly staff. Well priced. Food absolutely amazing and huge portions. Garlic prawns unbelievable. And I have never had a piece of gammon that big. Gave some to my friend but still couldn't eat it all. The mixed grill that I saw people have was huge. Every dish we saw looked amazing. A great find when we stayed next door at holiday inn

This is a lovely restaurant to visit and was very handy for us as we were staying at the Holiday inn. Food was reasonably priced and portions were big. We ate two nights that we stayed and were not disappointed. Lovely food, good atmosphere and staff were great. This is a must if in the area. Usually in places like this with hotels nearby you are stuck with the usual chain restaurants - Brewers fayre etc… so we were pleasantly surprised!!

Lovely atmosphere got bang bang prawns can't fault it tasted fantastic then mince and dumplings she got soup of the day and plenty of it then giant Yorkshire pudding, if yous are at the metro center give food a miss and come here just round the corner

I ordered christmas day lunch takeaway as I was working over christmas, I was so amazed at last years christmas day lunch. Again, it was the best christmas lunch we have ever had, every element cooked to perfection, every item on the 3 courses so well thought out, portions very generous and we even got a bottle of wine each, they had holly, crackers and all condiments, everything was perfect, thank you to the Skiff, you made our christmas day very special,xx

The meal was outstanding, and generous portions. Staff are attentive and very pleasant. Parking is limited, but there is some on-road. Give it 10 out of 10

Lovely pub for English or Italian food or just a drink . Special menu's sometimes available - tasty! The posset was especially tasty. Old Papa Joe (owner) often wanders about chatting with customers.

Excellent staff and food at good prices. I should really try something new but I alternate between the steak and Guinness pie and the halloumi kebabs as they are both so delicious 😋

My first time in The Skiff since the 1970s when it was well known as a rough pub! Four of us had a lovely lunch. Fish and chips, Gammon steak, Chicken Kiev and a chicken salad. The fish was massive and really tasty, the gammon was lovely and tasty with delicious home made onion rings, the chicken Kiev breast was massive! Must have been a giant hen! We'll be back!

Simply great food at great prices

The portents were good when we arrived for our meal. The restaurant was very busy but we only had to wait a couple of minutes to get a table. We skipped starters and went straight for main courses. My partner opted for an omelette while I went for the pasta carbonara. While my partner's omelette was adequate, my pasta was terrible. The pasta was limp and had no bite and the 'sauce' though plentiful looked and tasted as if it had come out of a supermarket bottle. To be fair, the people around us who had opted for burgers and steaks all looked reasonably happy. This would be a one star review, but the staff were friendly and efficient so it gets two. Although I personally wouldn't return, anyone who reads this would be well advised to stick to the burgers/steaks/chips in order to avoid disappointment.

First time here. Runs like a well oiled machine. Friendly staff. I had the jack daniels ribs from the specials menu. They tasted amazing and the portion was massive. I would highly recommend the Skiff Inn. Well done.

Will never come back to here, horrible food and found this in my cheese ham toasty am very un happy about this, made me feel ill

Never again on a Sunday. Been twice on a Sunday over the past couple of months and the owner the older gentlemen can’t do enough for you, but the rest of the staff every 2 minutes asking if we’re done I understand it’s busy but some people are slower eaters. £16.50 for a dinner and the veg comes out to ‘share’ which isn’t enough

I felt for an Italian run business the pizza was below average. Too much sauce and the cheese was odd and burned.

Have came here for years, consistently good food and atmosphere with reasonable prices. Hard to beat!

Order took along time to arrive. Menu didn't give full description of recipe content. No allergies discussed. Waitress didn't relay the order correctly. Portion size seemed small. Glad my Sister Paid !!!!

Nice meal had to ask staff to be served they had served 2 other couples who came in after us we all sat in conservatory bit can't understand why we weren't asked we were there first then I ordered a extra Yorkshire pudding it didn't arrive still waiting for it come after reminding staff so checked we weren't charged for it meal was nice though guess we just were invisible probably won't be back staff need to treat all customers the same gave 4 stars for atmosphere only because a lovely couple with a baby were so friendly and helpful 😀

I visited the Skiff Inn while I was in Newcastle for work. The Skiff Inn is a good mix of Italian/English cousin. Also, it is a proper family run pub, which it's always a plus. I was served by Pietro, lovely gentleman from Sardinia, who kindly looked after me. Great food, excellent service.

This is great restraunt, very cosy. The service is very good and the food is fab. Have the steak pie, amazing. Nice handy for the hotels as well.

I am working away currently and popped here as it's next to the hotel I am staying at. I was only going in for a couple of drinks. I looked at the menu and opted for the steak pie. Well I'm glad I did. Home cooked chips, mushy peas and the pie, a generous wedge of pie with a short crust pastry and what must have been 4oz of the most tender steak in a rich gravy. I'll be going back soon to try something else on the menu. All home cooked

Lovely staff, great food and not badly priced. Lots of choice of food which is always a positive. Next to the Metrocentre which is perfect after a day of shopping.

Popped in while local without a reservation, greeted warmly, seated promptly and food/drink/service was top drawer. Kids treated well, Joe bringing my daughter a doll to play with a nice touch. Wouldn’t hesitate to return if in the area.

When going for a pub lunch. You don't expect to be given a can of coke with dirty glasses. When asked what I'd like to drink with no menu and given a dirty look like I should know what they sell. The can of coke is part of multipack and clearly states not to be sold separately. The gluten free options are absolutely diabolical. Then to be charged £4.50 for 2 cans of coke. Will not be returning.

No kidding…the best mixed grill I have had. Flavorful and with the black pepper sauce….perfection! Friendly staff and nice environment

I've been staying at the holiday inn and have been the skiff every night the pub is well run , all the staff are courteous and helpful and the food is amazing but beware the chicken wing challenge is hot and spicey. all in all a great pub great staff, great food and reasonably priced.

Been here many times food been good but tonight 6 September 24 the food was awful .we had calzone and chicken Kiev the Kiev was burnt the chips were all little bits the garlic was sauce on the top not inside the kiev the calzone was tasteless we won't be going bk

Food was back to being amazing this visit. 5/9/24. Yes the prices have gone up again, just like everywhere else. Portion sizes seem to be back to normal (after they downsized them) Definitely worth a visit.

Make sure you are really hungry because portions are huge. On 2nd night going we had kids meals and still could not manage a dessert. Fantastic food at good prices. The staff were all so friendly. Cannot give any negatives, it was excellent.

My favourite place to eat when working in Gateshead, the place does get busy and sometimes there is a waits, but it's so worth it. The food is plentiful and so tasty. The service is really friendly and all staff are attractive. The Price is the best part as it's so value for money. Also a great pint of Guinness.

Cannot believe I have never been here before!! Staff were so friendly and atmosphere great... Food unreal, however eyes bigger than belly so ended up taking some home ... Will definitely be back.

Restaurant quality food in a local pub setting. Plenty of options from home cooked style stuff like pie and mince and dumplings, pub grub like burgers and pizza, grill and gastro/restaurant meals and everything that came out the kitchen (we were sat by the kitchen door!) looked amazing. Friendly and welcoming and great value.

5* all round. Been going here for years. We go most sundays for lunch and sometimes for tea on a week day. Definitely recommend this place.

Third visit last week previously I posted excellent ordered the fillet steak with Diane sauce 30quid portion was tiny wouldn’t have fed a child not sure what’s happened very disappointing

Just visited. Firstly, the food was great. What was the let down was the FOH staff. They all look so miserable. After our meal, we were asked by the waiter if we wanted to order desserts. Not seen the board yet. We kept trying to make eye contact with the team and in the end we gave up and paid the bill. The diver tip should really go to the kitchen only. Sort the FOH out and it's fine. Unhappy staff = poor service and most likely terrible managers

I’m not usually the type to leave reviews but the outstanding first class service and delicious food at The Skiff compelled me to do so. My family and I are staying in The Holiday Inn over the road and were just looking for a convenient spot to eat. We weren’t expecting such a lovely place at all! Smashing friendly staff and a really enjoyable meal. They accommodated our diets (veggie) in such a nice way too. If you miss a trip to this place you’re missing out!

Unfortunately feel like the standards of this place have deteriorated. We ordered steak pie , pasta arabiatta and two flatbread all of which are around £15. The flat reads were huge with alot of salad but very little chicken. The arabiatta is delicious as always however again only about five small pieces chicken. The pie was recommended however although steak was tender there was very little in it more gravy than anything and the chips were obviously frozen. Best thing about it was mushy peas. Now the service. The girl who served us ,although quite polite had the longest nails and eyelashes which seems very inappropriate for someone handling food. She was also very 'slapdash' dropping a dirty knife onto my friends trousers and not even seeming bothered at all. The very young lad serving drinks I must say was lovely and very pleasant. Just disappointed and won't be rushing back or recommending to friends anymore.. Needs improvement in standards for value or money

Great staff. Food & drink are average prices. The old man who owns the pub could not be any more friendly & always makes sure your food is made the way you want. You can have your meal as a carry out. I will be back if in the area again. The pub is between 2 hotels the Travel Lodge & THE Holiday Inn. The pub is only 10 min walk from the Metrocentre or a 2 to 3 min drive away with it's own free car park.

Meal out for 11. Food and service excellent. Value for money.
