Very comfortable bed (pillow blanket,..). Very calm. Top quality food and pub's staff. Very authentic. Well located. Top quality/budget rate. Even better than big hotel's brands if you look after a real british experience. A must. And thank you all staff's membership for their investment to achieve your satisfaction.

A hidden gem. If you are visiting Durham it's a great option if you don't mind a short drive (12-15 minutes). High quality rooms, friendly staff and a restaurant on site if you want it.

Have eaten here many times over the last 20 yrs + but the meal quality / service have certainly deteriorated over the last 12 months , I visited on 20/2/25 with wife and two friends and no meal was finished, amount of quality food replaced with peas,peas,peas, certainly not the mixed grill that I remember mushrooms ( tinned ) carrots were raw, pastry on pies inedible. Peppercorn sauce was cold , Service was very poor which again was unusual, menus require a clean , Worst experience in 20 yrs of visiting and quite embarrassing , Not a cheap visit money wise . I thought it unusual for the car park to be quiet. Will not be revisiting for a while to allow things to improve hopefully.

We go to the old mill most Sundays. The service and food are excellent.

I stayed here for three nights whilst away for work. The staff were excellent and food superb. I would definitely stay here again.

Went for birthday meal with brother and husband food nice bit pricey but well presented very attentive young staff pleasant surroundings toilets not so clean floors wet in need of a hand dryer and soap lacking all in all ok visit food drink wise plenty of choice M

Can see from portion sizes why this place gets a good reputation but not impressed based on tonight’s experience. Chilled elements of starters tasted like they’d come straight out of the blast freezer while the mushroom stroganoff was just inedible. Think burnt chipotle rather than creamy paprika. Would have complained at the time but the service was so poor no one bothered to come and ask

We regularly go here for Sundays dinner , today was very poor , we meet up with good friends and go for Sundays dinner lunch , mine today was potato skins ( absolutely frazzled ) my main meal was Beef , 2 small slices of, very little vegetables and 1 roast potato , and potato that looked like it had been baked , very disappointing, going to change venues next week and go to the Ginger Dog as we’re heating food reports , Very Poor the Mill

Stayed here for the first time after having a few visits for meals. This was recommended to me by a friend who is local and I can see why. Great venue, helpful friends staff. Great food and prices. Good selection of beers. Rooms were nice with everything you'd need. Breakfast was excellent. We will be returning in the future.

Brilliant meals all well presented

My wife and I love this pub. The food is always good and sometimes great. We've never been disappointed with food or service. Clean and comfortable with a chilled homey atmosphere. Parking can be a challenge and the carport could do with lighting.

Found the Old Mill online, so pleased we did! We had very tasty meals, good service & the prices were reasonable. We'll be back

They have rooms but haven't stayed. The food is fantastic and the staff are really friendly and helpful

We just popped into this place for drinks but the food looks Amazing. We will definitely be going back as there were so many dishes that passed us by that we would love to try. Nice friendly staff and lovely atmosphere with great decor

Stayed for 1 night for business purposes and cannot fault this place at all I had one of the best nights sleep I’ve ever had! Staff are friendly, room was comfy and clean and above all had a really nice experience staying here. Anders was really good with customers and made me feel very welcoming and at home on arrival and during my few hours at the bar! Will be coming back to stay with the other half for sure!

Amazing food here and a great location for a family dinner. Pricing isn't too bad either and works out well for a group of 4

Came here with my sister and nephew to see family, lovely room amazing hot power shower. Breakfast was very delicious, plenty of options, staff where fab Would definitely recommend to anyone going to Durham, would certainly come again

Didn't have a room, went for a meal and the food quality was excellent . Aug 24 , the atmosphere is great and the food is still quality. Update .December 2024, the food is still quality and quick service , loads of parking too.

Visited the Old Mill again after 6 months, we found once again a warm welcome and shown to a table that suited us. Service was first class and the meals were hot and very tastefully. 2 of uor party ordered bubble and squeak with sausages, 2 ordered beef and ale pie with chips. The 2 people that had the beef and ale pie agreed this is the best pies we have ever had by far. Absolutely great meals friendly staff in a good environment. The people at the Old Mill can be proud of the place, we'll done and thank you

Great food and very friendly staff. The only down side is that it can be a nightmare to park when it is very busy.

Sunday lunch, really nice, good value for money

Lovely atmospheric pub with plenty of artwork and nice seating for some grub. Portions are on the larger side but for the price it's extremely reasonable. Staff are friendly and even though we went on remembrance day and it was busy, there was always someone to see to us and food came at a reasonable time.

I’m not one for writing a review unless it’s a top 5 stars and this place is exactly that . I’m heading up to Newcastle for the ferry and when travelling back I won’t pass this place without stopping here for the return journey. The food the staff and the place itself is just amazing. I don’t usually leave negative reviews however, feel it is important for the safety of the public should they choose to eat here, as my visit today could have caused serious illness. I ordered the beef burger, when biting into it, watery blood flooded my mouth, which I spat out to find the burger, completely raw. Not just slightly pink in the middle, but red, bleeding, 99.9% raw. The burgers are really thick and this must have been cooked on the outside only enough to turn the outside brown. The plate was covered in bloody juices and the bun was drenched. The staff were apologetic and initially offered to get the manager to which I said I would just like the meal to be replaced with a “well done” burger. The next meal eventually arrived after my party had finished eating. I cut open this burger, to find that again, it was completely raw. The staff again, took away the plate, and I chose not to re-order as my children had long finished their meals and were growing impatient. I was then charged for the meal I could not consume. When I challenged this, the young waitress said she would need to consult her manager, who appeared aware of the issue and could not take the time to apologise to me directly, simply gave the nod to clear the item from my bill. No apology for not one but 2 poisoning burgers, no complementary drink for the 3 drinks ordered. The waitresses were lovely, the management appeared angry at me for returning 2 blood filled raw packets of mince with a bun garnish. I’ve eaten here before and it was lovely, travelled 40 minutes to come back a second time and drove another 40 minutes home without being fed. Mistakes are made, but the second burger was just insulting after I’d specifically requested this to be well done. Let’s hope I’m not ill from the first blood filled mouthful of raw meat or a report to FSA may be needed.

It's actually nice, but since season 4 there are ugly pictures of Doctor Doom hanging around everywhere and his henchmen are trying to kill you all the time. Annoying. In season 3, some idiots camped here the whole time and then hid in the bunker... The only good thing is that you don't have to pay anything.

Disappointed. Food taste was good and price was fair. Basics were wrong. Don't mind waiting an hour for fresh food anytime but please serve it hot. Half the food was cold and I am not sure how you end up with mashed potato freezing with a hot topping , a hot plate but cold veg. This was the same for half of the ten people on our table..being busy is not an excuse. Serve it hot or don't serve it. A real shame as the taste was great and what we expected.

We had a very nice stay at the Old Mill. Highly recommended. Our rooms were clean and comfortable with great lighting in both the sleeping area and the bathroom. They also had an electronic shower which turned out to be nice. We had our dinner at their restaurant and the food was good although they were very busy and the wait was long. We were able to get a couple of appetizers (potato skins and nachos) which helped and they were really good. Breakfast in the morning was very good as well!

Just been tonight the 4 of us always great service and food

We go here quite a lot and it’s always 5 stars every time until last night we went with friends and the service was horrendous it was like we were just getting ignored there were people coming in after us and getting served before us we arrived at 6.30 and left at 9pm and we only had main meals and it took that long to get them 25 mins had passed and the staff did not come to clear the table or ask if we would like more drinks or desserts like they would normally I would definitely this twice about going back if this is now how they treat customers

Great place to stay. The food was exceptional, especially the beef and ale pie. Also a good hearty English breakfast.

Easy checkin. Excellent position. Room was clean with soft bed and great bathroom. 2 flights of stairs to get to room but they are easy to negotiate. Nice and quiet and is based above a well known restaurant with excellent food and service. Great stay and value for money

Called in mid week for tea, didn’t realise they stopped serving at 8 so we just made it, staff were lovely, the menu was extensive with something for every palate! My braised steak just fell apart & didn’t need a knife, the vegetables & leek dumpling were lovely, hubby’s steak was divine. First class dining experience!

Ordered Braised steak with dumpling and veggies, and Cumberland sausages with Bubble & Squeak Mine was OK, meat was tender enough but not massively flavoured. Dumpling was solid. Felt tough and overcooked. The fella's food was poor. Definitely not Bubble & Squeak! Served a large mound of mashed potato containing chopped carrots! The sausages and gravy the only things that tasted decent. Two coffees to finish. I seriously wonder if any coffee was involved in the brewing process. Tasted like hot dishwater. All in all, disappointing. Especially after the recommendations to try it out.

Called in for a Sunday lunch. A very busy place but plenty of parking space. Food was of a decent standard but nothing special, prices were reasonable.

We are back baby! After a poor run of establishments we are back on top. Dined here last night for a 90th birthday. The venue itself is nice and seating area etc is sound. Service was fine and food was very decent. Decent portion size too. Parking here can get a bit sketchy as it gets busier. Would definitely go back.

Came here for the great north run. It’s such a clean tidy, recently refurbished hotel and pub. Definitely recommend: the shower was amazing, same one my girl friend has, and sand tiles as I have at home, so decent!!

Immaculate rooms and a very pleasant place to stay. Excellent breakfast too. The pub is closed on some days and it feels a little surreal entering with a passcode, but the process all went smoothly. I'd imagine it would be more convivial when the pub is open, particularly because there isn't much else on offer in Dearham.

Haven't been for years but went again with my partner last week for Sunday dinner,no problems and food was lovely We went again last night for a meal,I ordered bubble & squeek and partner ordered gammon,and today I am ill,had no food since the meal,I have diarrhea and feel absolutely ill Shame as food has been lovely but I won't be returning

On our way to Kirk Yethom we stopped for a drink & something to eat. Wow this place was the best choice ever. All 3 of us are vegetarians, 2 eat fish. It is not easy to find somewhere that provides a good choice. The Old Mill was one of the best places we have ever eaten. My husband had the veggie pie. He said this was amazing. I had the jacket potato with haddock. A strange combination, or so I thought. In fact it made the best filling I have ever had. Our friend had the salmon & prawn pasta. Again, simply the best. Shame we live near Dover, Kent.

Great food but the mashed potatoes tasted like Smash fake potatoes which was a disappointment. The steak and ale pie was overly salted also. Everything else was fine.

We stayed at The Old Mill for 2 nights for my granddaughters graduation. It was perfect. Our room was very nice and the bed very comfortable. We had breakfast and an evening meal all very good. We'll presented and delicious. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. Highly recommended

Had Lamb burger with goats cheese and chips. Really good burger, great goats cheese and nicely cooked chips. Everything cooked fresh. Staff very attentive. Well worth the money. Definitely will go back.

Disgusting food! Beef burger was inedible, bones and grissle, foul cheap meat, stale chips, dirty environment, table was greasy, just awful, don't waste your money.

Fantastic food, fantastic service. Stopped off here as part of our walk on a sunny afternoon, we only fancied a bite to eat so got a starter each - nachos and BBQ chicken wings. The wings were so tasty and the nachos were the best I've had in a long time! Not just dry tortillas like other places, plenty of salsa and melted cheese as well as guac and sour cream. Gorgeous! Presented beautifully and served promptly. Lovely little beer garden area for sitting outside in the sun in. A great local spot!

Went for food on a Bank Holiday. Food was good, we will be returning. The chips looks like "triple cooked" but weren't crispy which disappointed 3 out for 4 of us - I still enjoyed them though. I had the lasagne which was nice but nothing special however the Lamb burger, my gosh! Just delicious! I will get that next time - no doubt!! Parking is a bit strange, there is a good sized car park and then there's bits outside which I presume is overflow but it's not clear.

We tried to book a table on Sunday 24th March 2024 for a table for 9 we were advised you can only book if there are 10 people but we were advised that if we just turned up there would be tables available, we then had another person wanting to come, my daughter rang up on the 27th March 2024 to book a table for 10 for the 28th March she was advised that they were fully booked, so I am horrified what would have happened if 9 of us had turned up and then turned away due to no tables, My view on this is either you don't need our custom I mean 9 people we would have spent quite a lot of money, but we will not be trying to have a meal at the restaurant again

Sunday lunch, had the turkey, big plates, plenty of food, big pub with lots of different rooms to sit and clean. Would return

It was a bit chaotic,not much room for movement, between chairs. Trying to catch waiter's attention, for a drink, was unreal.car Park was too small for the amount of cars that visited .

Stayed here for an emergency night while work was happening in our house and wat a lovely find ! Staff were all very friendly and attentive . Room was clean and well appointed for the night . We had dinner, although very busy no need to book for groups of less than 10. Food was lovely , well cooked with great service . Some fabulous pub classics on the menu . Breakfast the next morning was again to a high standard . Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again

Beautiful hotel, incredibly friendly staff and convenient location. The room had everything you could need and I must say the bed was very comfy! My only criticism was a lack of PowerPoints as my room only had 1 spare socket near the room entrance (would prefer bedside sockets) but don't let this put you off . The food here is incredible and the room includes breakfast! I will definitely visit again!!!

Lovely food again at the Old Mill this weekend. Service was a bit off on our visit, no one checked if food was ok, had to ask for bill then gave up waiting to pay so paid at the bar. Service just needs to be a bit more attentive and personal.

Popped in on the off chance for Sunday lunch . On arrival looked busy but were seated straight away. On ordering we were advised of possible delay for food but it arrived in 5 minutes . Lovely Sunday lunch was had leaving no room for pudding unfortunately.

Excellent Christmas meal We attended here mid week pre Christmas for works do; the food was lovely, hot, veg not overcooked, plentiful and tasty. The dishes varied from festive menu to fish & veggie option and everyone in the party was pleased with their choices. The service was attentive but not intrusive, well done in a busy day. Attended again on 29th Dec for belated family Christmas meal - we ate from the main menu: all starters were hot tasty and well presented; the mains - 4 different ones were plentiful, hot, nice crisp veg etc. again the service was great.

Went for a staff meal out. Despite being really busy (to the point I parked my car, pretty much half in some bushes) meals were brought out all together. desserts menu were brought after meal and all brought out quickly after ordering. I was looking forward to an Xmas Dinner but we were told as a big group we could only have it if everyone in group ordered the same set meal depsite orders being given well before night we attended. So had to order something else, despite this food was tasty and plentiful, couldn't fault it, staff were lovely and we were well looked after. Really enjoyed the few hours I was there, and I will definitely return to try some more of the menu.

Went for a meal over Christmas period, festive and normal menu were available. We had starters and mains from the normal menu and it was delicious. A step up from most pub grub.

Great atmosphere, brilliant staff and amazing food in a very family friendly environment

Since we moved away this is one place we miss to eat so was a must on this visit. Seated straight away even though it was busy. Staff very attentive and much better not having to order at the bar. Excellent food, atmosphere, staff. Never had a bad meal here.

If you are fully prepared to wait nearly 2 hours for an extremely average meal then this is the venue for you.

The Christmas Dinner here was second to none. Could not find any fault with the food. And the staff were brilliant
