Lovely food. Staff were very friendly. Service very good.

Nice place to eat although quite cramped and loud inside during busier periods, I had the egg mayo sandwich and the iced latte and really enjoyed it. Large selection of great quality food for reasonable prices too! Would recommend 😊

Great quality food freshly prepared in a popular local restaurant.

Used to visit regularly before the cafe changed hands. Food not of same quality as previous visits. Atmosphere somehow not the same. We were a bit disapointed

Lovely cafe, good atmosphere, food was reasonably priced and good quality. We got ploughman's sandwiches which were very tasty.

Had breakfasts from many places, this was easy one of the nicest. Great food and great service. Coffee was lovely too.

Had a fantastic lunch with my wife,fast service with close attention to higene Menu was comprehensive. Also a specials board. We had two soups of the day,(Golden Vegetable) a Tuna Salad and a Feta Salad, pictures swapped the Eggs off the Feta Salad for some Cheese and Tuna as beloved doesn't like them . Other customers plates especially the Yorkshire Pudding looked appetising... Went away with a full belly,we sat inside,there was some outside seating and they sold takeaway coffee too. Condiments sachets opened without main force being applied 😁

First visit and definitely not the last. Had an amazing lunch the food was lovely. The staff were efficient and friendly with great sense of humour. Well done guys keep up the good work. Thank you.

Absolutely wonderful place Staff great

Lovely place to eat. Located on the High Street and dog friendly. A popular place to eat and there are tables downstairs. Ordering is from the counter and food is then delivered to your table. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Plenty of hot and cold food choices on the menu. Food was absolutely delicious, fresh, beautifully cooked, and presented. A definite must to visit.

On our way home from holiday and decided to stop in Barnard Castle for breakfast. This place came up on Trip Advisor, so we gave it a go. First thing to say it is clearly favoured by the locals and that’s always a good sign. We had the large all day breakfast, and both thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and cheerful, the place was comfortable and clean, and the food was lovely. We’ll definitely go back if we are in the area again.

Greta café, friendly staff, dog friendly. Went in and café was full but shown to more seating at the rear. Staff were great and loved the dogs (GSD and Border Collie) Had breakfast which was very tasty and not expensive. Thanks

We found The Stables as we crossed the A66 and couldn't face service station food any longer. We are glad we took the time to venture into Barnard Castle .The welcome was warm .With a large choice to look through, we chose the roast as it was Sunday . Generous portions for a very reasonable charge. You can tell your in for a treat when everyone else in the place knows the chef and servers and drop in to take food away or dine. We are glad we found The Stables Cafe and return given the chance.

All you’d expect, very clean, pleasant and personable staff and sensible prices. Soup of the day, Lentil and bacon was the best I’ve eaten. Definitely recommend. Well The Stables.

Good friendly place, great scones

Go here regularly, normally they make me poached eggs on brown toast, today they made me a ham & cheese Omlette(see picture).. Stephen is a top chef, and they have many freshly baked cakes and other items which change weekly. Ple ty of seating, they have a small room out the back also available when the front room is full. 10/10 staff and service is always perfect, and wlaways comes with a happy smile. 10/10

Great service and the same fir the food and prices.

Firstly it welcomed dogs with open arms, treats and water in abundance. The menu was extensive. It was busy, but all staff calm, relaxed and with beaming smiles. We ordered ‘all day breakfasts’, these came, beautifully presented, plenty on your plate, tasted delicious, so two clean plates. We had an Americano and a Mango milk shake also, my friend said her Americano was excellent ( and she is very fussy when it comes to her Americanos), my Mango milkshake was fruity and tasted great. The whole place was well kept, clean and tidy (we did warn the waitress of the mess our dog left with regards to water, which was according to her ‘not a problem’. One thing I am also particular about is toilets, couldn’t fault them. Their food and drink prices were very reasonable. Definitely a place to visit, with or without a four legged companion, I certainly will go back again.

Excellent breakfast today and catered for gluten free diet, which is very important to us. We had a large and a small breakfast, which were very well cooked and not greasy. Highly recommend

We had stayed at Scotch Corner on the way up to holiday in Bamburgh. Planning to visit Barnard Castle ( Castle & town ) on the way , we had researched breakfast venues , The Stables seemed to fit our requirements......Good decision. Staff were polite & attentive , nicely laid out cafe with a huge range of inviting cakes , pastries etc including a cake decorated as the Union flag. Obviously popular with locals , there was a nice hum of conversation going on. We ordered : Full breakfast ( with extra egg ) , Ham , egg & chips , tea & coffee. Our breakfast arrived quickly , hot , nicely cooked , high quality, plenty of it . My Wife said the ham was lovely. We are hoping to visit the gorgeous Barnard Castle again ( to see the Abbey ) & on our way up to Northumberland . We will definitely eat at The Stables again.

Had a lovely lunch at the Stable today. Sat outside out the back in sunshine. Hubby had the Roast Beef dinner and I had the Haddock and Mozzarela cheese fish cakes. Both very substantial and reasonably priced

Visited first thing on a midweek, before a long drive back to Cornwall, for a breakfast after checking out of our smashing cottage. One of the first customers but soon joined by many including regulars. What a great selection on the menu. Went for a small and a large breakfast! Wow what a set up for the day that turned out to be. Grand! Lovely and plentiful tea too. All the staff were so kind and friendly as we're the other customers. Highly recommended, not just an average Cafe.

Came to this lovely cafe today with my family whilst on holiday. The service was excellent and the food was freshly cooked and piping hot. I had the giant Yorkshire pudding with sausages, chips and gravy. It was very tasty and filled me up. I would recommend coming here for lunch if you are in the area. Get in quick as it gets busy (which imps always a good sign). Would definitely eat here again if in the area.

Loved this place. Fantastic team running it, food was great. Had a cheese and ham toastie. It had ham off the bone in, so tasty. Also loved the chips. Simple honest food.

I went in with my child in a pram to see if there was a table, there wasn't so we left.. His blanket fell on the floor in the doorway and when I bent to pick it up a member of staff (brown hair in a pony tail with glasses) pushed me from behind out of the door and when I challenged her she didn't deny it she just told me she was in a hurry. Been going here for a few years now, but never again. After spending nigh on £30 for me, my father and partner (as usual), I forgot the extra 2 slices of plain white bread to go with one of the meals. I went back to the counter and made the order and gave her a one pound coin, to my horror she said it was £1.20 for the 2 slices of measly bread (Tesco do a white loaf for 36p, Sainsbury's do one for 39p). For the most part, a traditional loaf of bread will render around 20 to 24 pieces. That is including the end of the bread, otherwise known as the heel. Needless to say, I was rather embarrassed having to dip into my pocket for the 20p (everyone was staring at me). The following week we went to the top cafe (the Mad Hatter's) where a similar circumstance arose, only this time a single slice of bread was the subject matter, as again I had forgot to include it in the original order. The young girl, however, Australian, and very polite, refused to take a single penny for the errant slice of bread. She obviously appreciated the money we'd already spent. Unlike the penurious staff down at the Stables Cafe.

We were visiting Barnard Castle and a bit late going for lunch. We went to the Stables and asked if they were still serving and they said yes and took our order. We had a burger and fries and a jacket potato cheese and beans with salad. The food was delicious and so filling the portions were huge! We were the last order they took and they were getting ready to close so I really appreciate them serving us. A very friendly place :)

We called in here today for a late lunch at 2.45pm and got a table straight away. We both had the Yorkshire pudding with sausage, chips and gravy and a pot of tea - the tea had a definite aftertaste that was like nothing we've ever experienced before, maybe what they wash the cups with, who knows... My husband tucked into his dinner and declared it to be ok, but there again, he's happy so long as it fills him up... I wasn't a happy bunny at all - a cheap frozen Yorkshire pudding which obviously needed to be in the oven for longer, it was soggy not crispy. The cheap thin flat frozen chips needed to be in the pan for longer, they were soggy, colourless and tasteless. The gravy tasted ok but it was far too thin and there was far too much - it drowned the awful chips and made the undercooked Yorkshire soggier than ever. The only redeeming feature of this poor quality meal was the sausages - they were the only half decent thing on the plate. Would we visit this cafe again - it's not likely to happen unless they up their game.....

We stopped here for a light lunch and the place was obviously popular as we had to wait for a table. It isn’t a table service place so you order at the counter and the menu had a decent selection of lunches at good prices. We ended up sitting in the back room which was a bit out of the way. Food was good and portions generous, all in all a nice lunch stop.

Had a lovely full English meal, for our day walking around Barnard Castle! Even better that they were dog friendly with treats on entry. Also had a jam roly poly for a pud, which was great! Customer service was amazing aswell, really down to earth and nice place to go to for a meal out whilst you are looking around the antique places in Barnard Castle!

Nice bright cafe, very clean and fresh. Fast service for both our tea and burger meals. Very good portion size and looked very appetising. Just as we started eating the relaxed background music was switched off, then the overwhelming bucketful of strong cleaning fluid arrived, clawing at our senses. We manged a few more mouthfuls but that was that, left about 50% on the plate and got out. Better you stopped serving food earlier if your going to start cleaning around customers and make them feel so unwelcome.

Took my children to have some lunch a few times the kids absolutely loved it cant fault them great bunch of people providing quality food at great prices

Popped in today for lunch with our 2 dogs, pleasant helpful staff finding us a space to accommodate us and Izzy&Bella the Shih Tzu’s! Toastie was good, soup of the day good and excellent jam roly poly with custard! Staff attentive and provided a treat for our girls 🐶👍 Thanks for making a wet Monday brighter!

Fabulous little restaurant with fabulous food! What more can we said about this fabulous little place. When it used to be over the road, it was very difficult to get a seat. Now they have moved to new premises, it’s even more difficult. This restaurant is extremely popular with locals. Best option for people is to try and book a table, otherwise it could be a long wait. Well worth every penny

Called in today had cheese and onion toastie it was lovely only thing I'd say is a little bit of salad garnish on the side as £4. 25 is a lot for just the toastie and it will look better . Nothing wrong with food and the place is lovely I will definitely be back when visiting again

Good traditional breakfast in a nice café.

Went in with my family twice over the last few days, looking for a hot meal with the storm having knocked out power at our homes. Food did not disappoint, very filling and the wait wasn't long; also the coffee was lovely. Staff went above and beyond not just to be friendly, but also gave us information to help with compensation when the power went back on, and pointed us to our local MP for future assistance. Definitely somewhere I'll be going whenever I visit Barnie in future, they've been wonderful in an otherwise trying weekend and beyond.

Food was Great home made cheese burger with a proper paddy made in house which actually tasted like beef not some recycled piece of rubber which the case at so many places, Service was at best good, staff could do with some more training on how to keep people moving in and out of the cafe, but they are young and that will come with time. The only issue i had was i ordered 2 Latte's Coffee was burnt and bitter, and a hot chocolate which was made with nearly 80% water was un drinkable..... seeing that this is the only negative thing we will be back and for future reference we'll be sticking to can's of drink....
