Absolutely fantastic pub we meet there on the first Monday of the month the landlady Chelsea and Gary are very welcoming the Durham and district prostate cancer group ❤️ love this pub they serve food which is delicious have a karaoke night on a Saturday evening bingo night Wednesday quiz night Thursday great pub

Great pub. Super friendly. Free pool on a Tuesday and jukebox. Locals all very friendly. I would say worth a visit if in the area. All food home cooked.

Great choice of drinks. The food was spot on. Fantastic service from all staff. Amazing atmosphere and a lovely beer garden. Now has a pool table, extra TV for sports, dominoes space and a dart board. Also they do a bingo night, quiz night and karaoke too. Pleased for the place to be back open. Definitely a favourite of ours.

Recently Reopened Under New Management. Visited for a birthday meal with hubby. Food is second to none, I had the Dirty Mac Burger which was delicious, proper food. Hubby had mince and dumplings. Compliments to the Gary the Chef on the amazing food. Defo recommend a visit.

Clean and friendly. Disabled access is difficult. Toilet is not disabled friendly.

Good lunch; nice portions and well cooked and presented. We had Chicken Curry and a Pizza both excellent and the pizza Hawaiian was particularly good with proper ingredients. Nice pub just off main road with ability to relax in large beer garden. Quiet when we were in and staff helpful and attentive.

Having been regulars in when the former landlady was here we were disappointed when it closed, pleased to hear that it had reopened and paid a visit , however the new manager/tenant has reverted to the pubs old failings, horseracing on a Saturday afternoon at a volume that means you can't have a conversation without reverting to shouting, the tables out side were all occupied by parents with ferral children who chased around in toy cars crashing into one another and adding to the general mayhem, no management appeared to be in charge, so the bar area was given over to four men to watch the horse racing (sod everyone else!)and there was nowhere in the place for decent people to meet and enjoy a quiet afternoon's drink together? So in my opinion it won't last long as the decent customers will vote with their feet.

Very limited menu but what we had was nice.take your own condiments they charge 30p for the tiniest paper pot of ketchup which is extortionate

Lovely sitting in the garden on a sunny day. Good friendly service and enjoyed my meal. Big portions, good price and good food if slightly limited menu. Would recommend.

We went to visit Brawn’s den on 8th of April 2023 after the owner change, the food was delicious, big portions, quick serving and the staff is very friendly. We’ll be back soon.

We popped in here yesterday after a visit to Durham. There was a Sunday Carvery which looked and smelt gorgeous so we decided to try it. We weren't dissappointed, the meat was beautiful and just melted in the mouth it was so tender. Hubby had Beef and Gammon and I had Beef and Pork. I was pleasantly surprised as sometimes Pork can be a bit dry on a carvery but this was't the case at all. Homemade Yorkshire Puddings, lots of veg, deliciously creamy, buttery mash and i do Iove a good meaty gravy. All at a great price too. The pub itself was clean and welcoming and had a lovely atmosphere. There were a few couples with dogs so obviously dog friendly which is good to know. We'll be returning when we visit the area again.

First visit to this pub was v quiet but ave to say we had 2 great lunches and lovely freindly service our dog mad welcome we were very impressed lovely venue booed for Sunday lunch coming up can't wait to return please visit well worth a try M

We go here pretty often and Lunch today with my 3 girlfriends was faultless again,,,,, absolutely lovely , food very tasty good alcoholic drinks great service ,, and a massive shout out to the waitress (sorry don’t know her name ) very friendly and bubbly extremely helpful defo 5*

Switches owners ever year or two. Which speaks volumes. Service great at the bar, but the food is below par. £15 for ‘fajitas’ which to be honest was terrible. A mistake Learnt. Sorry. If a meal is above the high standard it should be , then a thank you /personal word with the chef will be made. I wouldn’t embarrass any company or anyone else at a venue hence only a handful of negative reviews to advise the public of an opinion. As forementioned the staff were great

My wife and I went for Sunday lunch 12 June. Food very nice, and the Yorkshire puddings are the best we’ve ever had eating out. A little crisp on top but soft and doughy at the bottom. Just how I like them, basically they were fresh. Pork was beautiful. The service was also spot on, polite and efficient. Definitely worth a visit.

Visited on a Sunday for dinner with my partner and my child a couple of weeks ago. Lovely inside and staff friendly, also a decent choice of beer. However, extremely let down by the quality of the food. We were informed that the pork was not being served because they weren’t happy with it (fair enough - I’d rather the staff be honest I guess). I went for the chicken breast and my partner went for the roast beef. The chicken breast came and was pretty plain, and my partners beef can only be described as a slab of meat. The vegetables that came with it were a small dish of peas, carrots and some swede mash. The veg looked very dull and one little dish between 3 dinners (mine, my partners and my sons - who had a small dinner) was vastly inadequate, so I had to ask for another portion of veg. The chicken breast was alright, but average at best and just plain, and my partners beef was very tough and dry. She did mention this to the staff when the plates were collected after having left half of the meal, for her to be informed that it had been frozen. I then asked if that meant it had been reheated, to which I didn’t really get a response. Nothing was offered as way of an apology so we just skipped looking at the desert menu and after paying, decided to cut our losses. Such a shame because have been here several times before for a drink and had high hopes for the food.

Very friendly bar/restaurant. Your typical pub grub servings but many options. The food was good excellent, wholesome flavour throughout. I had the cheese burger and wife with the chick baguette. Options of chips, fries, salads all given. Service was fantastic with friendly bar staff. Use of dart board was good too and the beer garden, great views for the countryside. A recommended bar off the main road and worth the very short diversion into Brandon. Give it a look, will be back for sure.

Popped in today for a quick drink after some retail therapy, nice place, however, even though prices have risen I was disappointed with the cost of one can of 7up. One pint carling one John smiths, one can 7up, no lemonade to make a lemon and lime. 11.25, asked about the costs he told me the price of the beer which meant a single can of 7up was £3.30, very disappointing for designated drivers. Replied to your email last week, no response.

Popped in for meal for 1 after work and was very happy with the service. Steak was cooked perfectly, blue cheese sauce was so nice and cracking chips. Will be back with the misses soon

Visited for tea for a table of 8. Food was very disappointing, very small portions for the price. chips were raw, hardly any meat for a meat based dish. However when complaining staff were very helpful and food was discounted but will not be returning.

Second time we’ve had food after the new owners have taken over and second time we’ve been disappointed. Chicken club burger is advertised as a buttermilk burger. I think they forgot the buttermilk or just have no idea what a buttermilk burger is meant to be. I questioned whether I’d just been given a bacon and cheese burger which isn’t even on the menu. Anyway it was bland and tasteless. The chicken looked and tasted like it had been boiled. The garnish was covered in water, so all in all it was just a watery mess. Sent it back and was given a refund. Nothing else we ordered was offered complimentary which would have been a nice touch. Husband had a hot roast sandwich. The beef was nice but the baguette was a par baked pre bought one which hadn’t been baked for long enough. Sizzlers are half the size with an added increase in price. They need to upgrade the menu and learn what the food should be before advertising it. It’s a nice pub with friendly staff and the beers are good. Just wasn’t great or up to the standard we’ve come to expect from the BD 😢

Went for Sunday lunch on 27/02/22, with the family (2 adults and 2 children). I have to say the whole experience from the staff to the food it’s self was amazing. They were great with my 2 boys and catered for all that we asked for, and agin the food was beautiful. We could not have asked for anything more.

We have been previously with no issues however this visit wasn't the best unfortunately. Lovely venue but we waited nearly an hour for food, corned beef pie was predominantly potato and stodgy pastry, child's pizza was burned, burger and curries ok . Sadly for a table of 8 we won't be returning

Lovely little pub with good staff

Myself and my girlfriend visited here for my birthday and the Christmas fayre menu after booking the night before. The food was excellent and very hot. It was very good value dor money for the 3 coutse meal. We've visited twice lately and it's been very quiet both times and I'm not sure why. It's a lovely pub, very inviting and friendly. We'll be back soon!

Went for lunch - parked at the back of the pub and went in the door that was arrowed as the entrance. We were greeted by a surly barman who in no uncertain terms told us we had come in the wrong entrance as they were operating a one way system.we followed the sign outside but unfortunately didnt see the small exit notice . Yep - our mistake but there are ways to tell people and his way was wrong. He asked if we had booked - we hadn't so he asked a staff member if there was a spare table - the pub was completely empty. Not very welcoming and if it wasn't for the fact that we were hot, hungry and thirsty we would have left. Our waitress was lovely and the food was fine just a shame we waited over 35 minutes. Definitely won't be going back.

I have tried most venue's in a 10 mile radius of Crook and The Brawn's Den beats them all for quality atmosphere and Service

Nice welcome into nice pub/restaurant with nice bar. God traditional Sunday lunch which is handy for lovely walks along old railway line through nice countryside. God menu selection ..we had pork & beef with good selection of veg. and pleasant surprise was stuffing obviously not out of a packet. Also good range of starters & puds. Service excellent. Only downside..Yorkshire pud crispy on top but soggy bottom, but roastie potato’s just right.

First time here and the place is well decorated with a lovely warm atmosphere and the food was beautiful. I'm notva vegetarian but sometimes I do order a meal and they even asked if I wanted the whole meal to be vegetarian or even vegan. Would highly recommend this place. Bill was a bit steep due to the lady accidentally putting 230 diet cokes on the bill 😳 however they were very apologetic and the price was then very reasonable. Give it a go you won't be disappointed 👍

Dropped in with a friend yesterday lunchtime after a walk to Brancepeth Castle. We really enjoyed it. Service was great. The menu had plenty to choose from and all at sensible prices. The food and drinks which we had were spot on. Would definitely go again!

Very nice pub in attractive surroundings. Good size car park. Lovely staff. Great Sunday dinner. Only complaint is the dinner was really big! All fresh veg, gigantic Yorkshire, good gravy. My daughter said their fish and chips are made from scratch. Would definitely recommend.

Fabulous meal enjoyed by all. Best fish and chips in a long time. Fab steak pie. Teriyaki a revelation for the old fella. Steak cooked to perfection. Hunters chicken up there with the best. And great puds too. A special mention for our server Bethany...

I've come back so many times, it never fails to impress, satify and please all customers. The Chilli con carne is the best in the business (my absolute favourite meal). Nachos are done perfectly, they are so commonly done with wrong ratios from cheese to crisp to guacamole. The steak was lovely and tender and easy to cut. 10/10 I'll be coming back

Amazing Food (Hugely recommend the nachos), the Chillie Con Carne 🌶 was described by my Nan as "Nicer than my own" which is rare. The Steak wasn't chewy which is hard to get when eating out. I could ramble on for hours about the amazing taste of the food, but I then wouldn't be able to tell you about the lovely staff. The new management has really boosted the quality of the everything. 100% recommend if you're looking for a nice place to eat.

Really nice place, went for Sunday lunch, walk-in managed to get a table (beer garden). Roast pork really tasty home cooked food. Sticky toffee pudding and ice cream for dessert. Staff very polite and friendly. Excellent food would recommend and will return.
