The Three Horseshoes Hotel in County Durham

Ate her 3 times The food is fantastic . Well presented good price and delicious. But the service once ordered was very poor . Food brought to table by staff with no emotion . No smile and no enjoy your food . On all three occasions there was no table check .

Great parking close by. Access has lots of steps to negotiate with suitcases. Friendly reception staff. Room was lovely. Contemporary feel with a massive bath and lovely shower with nice toiletries. Plenty of hot water and fluffy towels. Tea/coffee tray very good. Noise from people entering and exiting pub was noted. Luckily, the noise stopped by 11pm. Room was very hot. Could not open sash windows easily. Electric fan noisy and very dusty. Lots of road noise. Barnard castle is a lovely, busy little town. Pub staff were lovely. Unfortunately, food had stopped being served at 4pm on Sunday, when we arrived. Looked nice, though.Breakfast was nice, plenty of choice. Oat milk and gluten free toast was available on request. Salmon and scrambled eggs on toast were really nice, but toast was dry without spread or butter. I did not ask for dairy free spread, which was my fault.Waitress was a bit grumpy, but we were very happy with overall experience for a one night stay

Delicious food & service, friendly and welcoming. Definitely will be coming back. Sunday lunch is amazing and value for money.

Nice Sunday lunch, we booked about a week ago for lunch at the Three horseshoes. We turned up and a table was ready for us. We had roast chicken, it was a nicely cooked chicken moist and tasty. The veg was plentiful and suited both of us. We had two desserts, the sticky toffee pudding was light and delicious but the butterscotch and chocolate cornflake dessert was just too chocolatey, a wrong choice by us. The restaurant was constantly busy but staff were attentive. Recommended but book for Sunday

We had a fantastic evening at the three horseshoes hotel last night. We wanted a quick meal before going to the Witham for a show. I was pleased we had reserved a table as it was very busy, particularly in the bar. This made for a great lively atmosphere. The menu catered for all tastes and I chose the lamb dish. It was absolutely lovely, totally exceeded my expectations. Beautifully presented and delicious. I didn’t leave a thing! The staff were really friendly and did a great job looking after us. Thank you - we will be back!

We appreciate we booked a 3:30 sitting however…. Service, awful! Food, mediocre at best! Atmosphere, loud! Firstly, we were welcomed to our seats however the helpful service stopped there. No check backs, no service with a smile and no offer of sauces and water was forgotten. Secondly, crispy crackling was non existent (see photo attached). Super sad looking roasted veg (in summer) paired wrongly with over roasted potatoes. Lastly, service! We can accept these people have had a long Sunday service however service with a smile costs nothing, unlike our £100 bill. At this point you’ll be thinking why was it so loud…. Well it was loud because the screaming chef could be heard from the dining room over all of their customers. Our sad experience was topped off by the unprepared popularity of the banoffee cheesecake we didn’t receive. Co op for dessert it was. I’ve had worse but I wouldn’t recommend.

It was a rainy summer day in Barnard Castle so were happy to be able to dry off and grab a bite to eat here. We ordered fish finger ciabatta and chicken goujons. Both were enjoyable, the batter on the fish was perfect. The salad was tasty. The staff were quick and efficient. The place was busy, even though the weather was terrible, so I think other people liked it too. Would be good to come back when weather better and enjoy the town a bit more.

I called into The Three Horseshoes on Monday 8 July 24 at 2:45pm. We only wanted a coffee and cake. I approached the waitress to be told you finish serving food at 3pm. I informed the waitress it was 2:45pm and we only wanted cake to be told you can have one only! Hence to say we didn't stay.
