The Miners Arms in County Durham

What a great Sunday Lunch we had in the Miners. Ample amounts of every constituent contained in the meal. The chicken was succulent with an amazing stuffing mix which is a meal in itself. Delicious. The veggies were very well cooked. They were fresh and with the few roasted potatoes and a lovely mashed potato included also, it made for a exemplary lunch. A nice team of waiting on staff were evident, working well around the many diners. The place itself is cosy, tradional , warming and comfortable. We had a very nice , relaxing time in there. It is worth visiting as I am sure you will like it if you give it a try.

I ordered the Nachos, it was stone cold despite the dish being hot. I sent it back. A fresh one arrived. By the little time I waited I think it had been in a microwave. Once I started eating it I realised it consisted of hardly any nachos, barely any cheese ( luke warm), but loads of sour cream, jalapeños, and about a tablespoon of relish. I'd never order it again or recommend it to anyone else. My partner had the burger with chips. There was onion in the burger 🍔 despite asking not to have any. There was so much tomato sauce that once he'd removed the steak knife from it, the whole thing slide onto the table. The bun was too small for the size of the burger. What a terrible experience 😡

Visited the miners yesterday for a family meal which was absolutely delicious. We ordered a classic cheeseburger, chicken burger, lasagne and mixed grill special. Everything was cooked perfectly and was full of flavour. Their homemade chunky chips are to die for! Portion sizes are very generous to say the least. Perfect place for a tasty home cooked meal without the trouble of cooking yourself.

Really nice family meal. The staff were very attentive, it wasn’t busy but we can only judge it as we found it. The food was really nice, especially for the price as it was very reasonable. 2 parmos, sirloin steak and a gammon steak with 2 rounds of drinks was £87. Portions were generous as well. Make sure you upgrade to the hand cut chips as they were excellent.

My wife, two grandaughters and I were on the lookout for a place for dinner and by lucky chance, spotted the Miners Arms. The menu was varied and the food excellent with good and adequate portions. We all agreed that it was our best dinner experience during our week on holiday near Consett and we'd love to go back again.

I hadn't been here in years. I used to eat here all the time around 20 years ago when I had my first daughter. Went with my friend for my birthday. I had the garlic mushrooms for starters, and they had no taste. For the main, I had the chicken burger with chips, and it came with onion rings and slaw. Sadly, the food was awful, and I couldn't eat any of it. Only had 2 bites of the burger (it was burnt to a crisp) and 1 bite of onion ring (which tasted of fish) the chips weren't cooked on the inside. So, I left it all. Wasn't even offered a partial refund despite leaving the full plate and explaining how bad it was. I hate food waste, and at £16 to throw food away isn't great.

The food looked great but ours never arrived. We waited for two hours in total. We reported that we were still waiting after 45 mins. The waitress admitted she forgot to out the order in. We waited another half an hour and were told it would be with us very soon. We waited another 15 minutes and were told it was just coming. After waiting for 2 hours we left. There were 4 of us, looking forward to a nice Sunday lunch. We will never go there again.

Food was incredible. Best fish and chips I've had in a long time, and parmo was delicious too. Lovely staff too! Will be back 🙂

When the Miners re opened it was great to have it back and the food and service were great but over the last few visits each time I have seen a decline in service and food quality. Today we decided to try again and have to say it was absolutely appalling on all fronts. When we arrived we were not even acknowledged even though the manager was at the bar and were then ignored for over ten minutes. Eventually we were given menus but again no customer service and I had to ask to place an order for food and drink. After ordering I was approached multiple times about my order and was told no baguettes were available but could have a nap or bun but they did not know the difference this was about 13:30 on a Saturday afternoon! The food eventually arrived and it looked terrible I had a plate full of what should have been home made chips but they had been fried in old oil and what was supposed to be a hot beef and my granddaughter had chicken nuggets with over cooked peas and a weird yellow colour in the batter and a red hot plate which burnt my hand and that was for a child. When the waitress arrived to clear the plates I told her I could not eat the food and she laughed and said it’s ok I then said no it’s inedible and she said ok and walked off. All this time the manager had his lunch stood around and then went for a cigarette not interaction and definitely no communication when I had had a poor experience. I have been going to the Miners for 20 years and have had some bad experiences but today was actually the worst and I will not be back which is sad really as we have always gone to the Miners for full family occasions.

Partner had chefs special, J&D steak Slices, I had Tradition burger and fries, portions were so big, could not eat it all, staff were very nice, 10/10, will be going back.

Had a great lunch today of Scampi and Chips. Lovely pub food and cheerful welcoming service. Perhaps not much call for peppermint or herbal tea in the past, but that's minor. 🙂 Will definitely go back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We received a warm welcome both from the friendly staff and the open fire. Not to worry that it is April, we'd had snow and hail in Medomsley earlier that day!! There's plenty of choice on the menu with additional specials advertised. We had the curry and the surf and turf both of which were excellent. Portion sizes are generous. There was plenty of banter going on and we'd definitely return.

Having been a few times since reopening we had another lovely meal last night. The pub has a lovely warm atmosphere and the staff are so friendly.

Came for a Saturday lunch with the family, food was good value and tasty, staff very friendly and attentive, nice and relaxed atmosphere - can't fault it, really. I had fish & chips, daughter had corned beef pie, wife had a parmo. Even when we went slightly off menu and asked for a couple of changes they were totally fine with it, and we will happily come back.

First time visiting today, will definitely be back! We ordered the lucifer burger, chorizo parmo and kids meal and the food was the best pub grub we’ve had. The 2 young lads that served couldn’t do more for us, lovely friendly pub

We have just recently moved to the area and have been in search of a pub that ticks all of our boxes - found it! One of the nicest Sunday lunches we've had (gravy is a particular favourite of mine), the service and live music was just perfect. We also took our two dogs in and they couldn't have been more accomodating. We will be back soon!

Been going to The Miners Arms over the last 10 years and have to give it a great view after a recent visit. Went with a family member on a whim and very happy with the service we got. We were welcomed very quickly and sat within minutes. The waiting staff were very attentive despite being down a few staff members and made sure to look after us. I had the Famous Fish and Chips and my family member had the Thai Fish Cakes (a starter) as a main. Both were fantastic and solidified the great food I’ve come to know from the pub. The new chefs really made the new menu stand out and had a great selection. After the meal, Jane (The General Manager) introduced herself and had a great conversation with us. She made us know if we needed anything that she’d be happy to help. Jane and her staff really made a local establishment like The Miners Arms feels like a place you want to be on a Saturday Night. If I could rate higher than 5 stars, I would.

Came for lunch here with friends We received a very warm welcome from the new manager and all the other staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Good variety of pub grub available, beautifully presented and piping hot. The parmos in particular went down well. All reasonably priced and value for money. Recommend you give it a go..

Great food and unexpected karaoke - all those people can sing!!!!

Went hear today for lunch with 3 others for a meal, And to listen to the singer that was on last week, but was told she wasn't singing today. Disappointing. So we have gone to the Royal. Where we are now by a nice fire.

Came here tonight 9.2.24 with the family after hearing great things about the food around town recently and must admit I have just had the most flavoured steak just melted in the mouth and packed full of flavour all 5 of us were thrilled by our meals taste and look amazing job and great service to will definitely be back thanks for a great night

I've been a couple of times since it reopened and have enjoyed my meal both times. I must admit it seems like a lot of effort is going into welcoming customers and this creates a welcoming warm atmophere. I had Sunday dinner today with was really nice (three meats).

Nice to see the old original chef back at the miners Arms had a table booked on Saturday night and a quick chat with the chef about menu choice I went for king prawns starter and a hotshot parmo which whould not usually be my 1st choice go to but wow definitely worth it both dishes were amazing the prawns were to die for so much flavour and the parmo was actually really good perfect amount of cheese and sauce with can't wait to get back thank you chef our whole table where blown away with your food keep up the great work

Recently reopened under new management. Visited on a Friday evening. Had the gammon and scampi. Both excellent. Delicious and great value for money. Staff were efficient. Friendly atmosphere. Nice to see the pub thriving again. Will definitely revisit.

The Miners has been closed since November and only recently reopened with new owners / managers. We have been twice since , on the opening night and a mid week visit , it was our local until it’s sad demise mid 23 , all I can say is what a great start , pleasant friendly clean and attentive staff, there’s a limited menu at the minute which looks good and reasonably priced and I believe this will be extended within the week. I’m really looking forward to the Miners being back to a great pub with good food and atmosphere which includes a great coal fire ! Worth a visit for sure as the reviews of late 2023 have no relevance whatsoever. 👍🏻

Sadly I would not recommend, had the worst service ever today(27/10/23). Staff are friendly but sadly we ordered 2 broths, F&C and a chicken dinner. The soups came out but the meals never did, dont think the order for those reached the kitchen so we ended up cancelling the meals as were taking too long as we would of liked to of eaten together - really disappointed ☹️

Visited for Sunday lunch for a birthday celebration. Loved the food under the previous owners and was the first time visiting under new management. The lunch was ok, eatable at best, nicest part was the Yorkshire Puddings which were lovely and couldn’t be faulted. We were a party of 5 adults and we received……. four sprouts between us. If they’d ran out, either don’t add them to the dish or at least say sorry, thats all we have left! Ladies toilets had a basket of beauty products…..nice touch, but there wasn’t any loo roll in any cubicle when we arrived and still none when we left……so forget the unnecessary additions and maybe focus on the basics? Probably won’t be returning.

Been for a meal tonight with my partner and 4 of our friends knowing this place came highly recommend from friends, we ordered the spicy pancetta and chicken lasagne special, scampi, curry of the day and 3 fish and chips that where delicious. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our experience was nothing but the best. I highly recommend this place for food and drinks. The fire was on which was lovely coming in from the cold, we will be back and also will bring guests 😀

Well where do I start ! My mother and her husband sl g with another couple wen for a nice late dinner they had the worst experience regarding food and staff where so called professional staff raised their finger when they left ! My mother and step dad are by no means rude and would never be troublesome so this so called reply by yourself is an absolute joke! Take responsibility for your ill mannered staff !!!

First time here in a few months and it was absolutely awful Place was dark cold and un inviting menu was limited ordered Scampi which came cold and some pieces still frozen so sent it back the Corned beef pie left much to be desired, asked for dessert menu ordered 2 desserts which they didn’t have , On paying the bill they tried to charge us for all four meals and had to be corrected, Overall a bad experience which will NOT be repeated,

Just had the Sunday lunch from here for the first time and compared to others this is pretty high up there , loads on the plate , piping hot and the staff friendly and helpful , highly recommended and well worth a visit.

Dropped in here for a quick drink and some lunch. This pub has new owners, they offer a fantastic warm welcome with excellent food. Definitely coming back here again. Highly recommended!

Sunday lunch today as always was absolutely gorgeous. We never have a desert as a rule but we were so tempted by the cheesecake we gave in and we definitely didn't regret it. Absolutely lovely all round. Staff, and service were lovely. Back next week if there's room as it's getting busier ever time. Can recommend strongly.

First of all sorry its taken so long to write this review. We popped in as my Mrs fancied a light snack. She decided on a prawn cocktail and chips. As you can see from the pics it was fantastic. We will be back to test out the rest of the menu.

We visited Sat 28 Jun. Staff were very friendly. We had lasange, beer battered fish fingers and scampi and all were very nice. For dessert we all had strawberry, tequila and rose cheese cake and it was delicious. One of if not the best dessert i have ever had. We even took some home for later. When i am back up in the North East again i will revisit for sure

Sunday Lunch Disorganised....... Booked the day before and arrived to be told to just find a table. it was about 15 minutes before a drinks order was taken. Very strange when the person taking the order stood about 6 feet away. 3 tables that ordered after us got food before us. Decent portions but vegetables looked unappetising and were very overcooked. Such a shame, this is (one of) our local pub. Not sure we will be back

Definately a paws up and thankyou from a scared and shy rescue dog .On our first visit she could only manage to sit outside. Thanks to the kindness and consideration of the staff, on the next visit ,she went straight inside for her doggie dinner. I have to agree with her ! Delicious food, great choice and fab service.

We live in the Village and popped down for tea on Tuesday night for the first time and we will most certainly be back again. Food was amazing and the staff were great. My son (Tom) absolutely loved Ben, he was so friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back again.

We found ourselves in the area at lunchtime and needed somewhere to eat, so we decided to try the Miners Arms. We were really impressed. The staff could not have been more friendly or attentive. The prawn cocktail my partner ordered was amazing! Great food and friendly service with good humour. We would highly recommend!

Could do with an update, but service and staff were good

So....The Miners Arms; recently taken over by Michael & Simmone. I'll start with the deco - tastefully done throughout with old, antique furnishings and an open fire. Theres a little "snug" at the back, which is super cosy.  There's a lovely chilled, relaxed atmosphere all round. The pub is dog friendly with a "dog station."  There's a play area for children in the beer garden & outdoor seating front & back.  There's a large car park too. A reduced menu is running at the moment until the kitchen is fully up & running.  There's still a wide selection to choose from, and it's great quality with good-sized potions. We'll stocked bar with a great choice of gins, wines & beer. The location is not too far from Ebchester boathouse and the Derwent walk, ideal to pop into after a long walk. They have live music advertised on their Facebook page, which I will definitely be popping in to see (not to mention the free shot and nibbles offered😏). This pub has everything you could want.  They also do Sunday dinners, which look absolutely amazing.

A very pleasant Pub Eatery, with a varied menu to tempt any Hungry Horace, all at an affordable price. The food is well prepared, presented and served by friendly and helpful staff, in a well lite dining area having a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Well worth more than one visit.

I liked it here ,friendly staff and if its good enough for the WI its good enough for us.. i asked for extra as i think chips, ham and egg are a but boring as is..This wasn't any problems and i left my plate empty..will be going back but not if the WI are in as theres an hr wait but that was explained when we sat down..

Down to earth straightforward pub with home cooked food and a good pint. Went here with my husband on a quiet Monday lunchtime.. check opening times as pubs round here as they have limited opening days/times. Two ladies working today were lovely friendly and helpful. Menu is mostly typical pub grub but nice and simple and they do a daily board and special menu. My hubby wanted extras on his meal and they were happy to oblige. Mince and dumplings, home made chips was lovely. Veg perfectly cooked. My only criticism was the dumpling were soft and a bit undercooked (expected them crispy). Hubby had ham, chips and egg with sausage on the side and cleaned his plate! Apple crumble was lush but custard wasn’t enough (teeny jug). Cannot complain at all. All of that plus two rounds of drinks for £32! Amble parking plus an overspill car park. Kids play area out back. NB. On getting seated we were told there was a wait for food as they had a group of around 14 ladies in having lunch….it took just under an hour from ordering to bring served but we were warned. Apart from the group it was mostly empty so if it’s busy, I can’t imagine how long you’d wait for your food! This is an observation and not a criticism. Overall lovely place and will definitely be back and would 100% recommend.

Good beer, a nice local quiz night when we passed through on a Tuesday.

Mrs was hungry and could not be bothered to cook, so we dropped into The Miners Arms.... well happy we did. Lovely food and at a pretty reasonable prices. Mrs had the set menu, but with quite a few options for each course she says it was very, very good. Drinks were good, prices were as a restaurant. The staff were friendly and attentive. We will be returning soon for an evening meal.

I went to the Miners Arms, at Medomsley today decause l used to live there 57 year's ago the staff were brilliant with the children who were with us. The food was first class and plenty plus reasonably priced plus a good little play area at the back. Will be back again before too long.

Friendly service, food really nice, reasonably priced drinks and food, only bad point had to wait quite a while for food although it wasn't very busy, would still go back though!

A cosy, clean and friendly little English pub, well worth a look in.The Best burger I've had in a long time. It had salad and a dressing on. Well worth it!! Even the chips were lush. The kind waitress and chef even went to the trouble of splitting our one pudding order into dishes giving us both ice-cream and custard. As we were stuffed from the filling burger. We couldn't of asked for more. Pity i didn't a tip dish.

We had an amazing lunch today, I played it safe with my favourite Scampi it was lovely but one friend had an amazing steak and the other had a fabulous steak pie, we couldn't believe the quality and quantity for the money, we will definitely be making this place a regular place to go, couldn't fault the service, lovely friendly staff.

Lovely little pub. The atmosphere was really good and the food was absolutely fantastic and very reasonably priced. It was very busy so you may have to book. There was an excellent guitarist appearing called Greg Taylor. Watch out for him. We'll definitely be back

We popped in for a late tea to The Miners Arms, Medomsley. The barman was friendly and polite as were the waitresses. The menu had a very good selection of dishes to choose from - I was spoilt for choice. My husband opted for steak and I fishcakes. Both were delicious and very reasonably priced. We would definitely return with friends and family.
