Food and drink were good, quiet atmosphere in some zones for work with sockets under some tables. Not particularly happy with the service in one interaction as I was interrupted during a video call then being called "rude". The staff could see from behind that I was in an online meeting as I was facing towards the wall with earphones on. It would be completely normal and understandable that they probably did not see that I was in an online meeting but I am not sure if explicitly calling anyone "rude" would be a nice act merely based on a one-off interaction. Was going to explain the situation and apologise for that right after the meeting which happened to be shortly after as I couldn't speak while I was in the meeting but I don't see the need to anymore. Other staff were nice tho so paid the discretionary tip anyways. Ordered racked up to £20 and got kicked out after I finished my food despite several tables on the floor being empty too lol.

I waited for about 15 mins, which is fine for me. However, after that waiting I got a quit bad table with small chairs 🤨 When I complained about it they gave me worst one!! When I see the food price it is quite high ( fish fingers about £16!!😳) with that quality of table and chairs!?.. they call it atmosphere !!. At the end I haven’t got any food from there.. it is not my kind of place 🙄. (I put one star for food and service cos I haven’t got anything from there).

I would go a 5 star rating due to how friendly the staff were and the coffee was very tasty. The food was a major let down though, for the price, it (in my opinion) lacks taste. The French toast seemed cheap and the bacon on it tasted very cheap. The ambiance was nice and calm, and the actual sitting area is lovely with nice pictures (artwork) hanging on the walls. I went because it is apparently a very Durham thing to do, but I doubt I will be back.

The food is great and my favourite dishes are the Eggs Florentine and the Matcha Pancakes. Both are vegetarian friendly as well so would definitely recommend. Atmosphere is amazing even if it's crowded. There's always a queue but sometimes if you're lucky you can walk straight in. My tip is to arrive earlier or go on a day with bad weather. I wasn't a fan of the drinks personally. Coffee was more on the fruity side so they taste a bit sour which is not my favourite - but it's been a while since I tried coffee in the cafe so it might be different now. Matcha latte was disappointing the last time I tried it, it tasted too light and milky/watery. Might be different now considering that the matcha pancakes are great, but I usually avoid getting the drinks nowadays. I'd say Flat White is worth visiting overall - definitely give it a try if there's no queue. If there's a queue, go for other options as the city has a lot of good cafes.

I have been a regular here for over a year and always visit for breakfast. There is nearly always a queue which you queue to the left where the bench is and leave space for people walking past so you are not forcing them in to the road. I visited again December 2023 and it is becoming a common problem that although delicious and earthy the food is being served Luke warm, service is very slow and inattentive and seems to be getting worse at every visit. Coffee is the best in Durham if you are lucky enough to have it hot. I feel a little more disappointed every time I visit.

Absolutely one of my favorite brunch and breakfast places in Durham. It is so lovely. There are so many plants on the shelf which are so cute, andand the tablestables are quite clean, the staff are friendly, and efficient, and they have very nice dessert such as pistachio lemon cake slice and their egg Benedict and sandwiches are very tasty as well. However, last time I ordered pancakes here and they put too much jam or syrup, it was too sweet. And this time, the lemon ginger tea was too sour because they put too a whole ginger in it. If the stuff can be more careful when they make food, this place would be perfect.

If you are visiting Durham and want a nice place to have something to eat or just a coffee you won't go far wrong by visiting the Flat White Kitchen, 40 Saddler Street, Durham, DH1 3NU. The best car park to park in is the Prince Bishops Car Park (DH1 3UJ) it's quite reasonable price wise. Go up the steps and you will easily find the way to the Flat White Kitchen on Saddler Street. It is open 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. There was a ten minute wait for a table but we'll worth the wait. Our order was taken by Amelia who was very professional and friendly. As you would expect the coffees are excellent. If you have a sweet tooth the caramelised banana pancakes with cinnamon cream, candied pecan and house syrup are delicious. The portion is very generous so you wouldn't need anything else. The sweetcorn fritters with avocado, poached eggs, chipotle mayo and bacon (optional) are also excellent. Thank you to all concerned. The bill (including 10% service charge) was £41.80 for two. I was full up until breakfast the following morning. Compliments to the chef and all the lovely staff who all seemed jolly.

Great atmosphere, friendly and helpfull waiters, but waiting time and kitchen is a big problem. The claim of exquisite food is not true, quite unfortunately! A lot of very interesting items in the menue, looks good on photoes too, BUT the actual taste is so-so. I had pancakes with ham and syrup, ham was dry but not crispy, pancakes were more like undercooked English scones, not the plump American, not the sour Russian versions of the pancakes. I'd rather order scones if I knew. Affogato obviously had to wait to be delivered from Italy -icecream melted and coffee became tipid. Very disapoointing, on the verge of disgusting. A friend had something vegetarian, the rice was cold, greyish in colour, unsalted even! Disappointed, they could do more than they actually do! This place is fashionably popular among students. So sometimes there is 10-20 people waiting in the queue. Actually if you come earlier you can avoid that. However, inside you'd have to wait much much longer anyway. Probably because they need more staff? And it would be fine to chat with a friend when you wait, but you often get your food cold. The interrior is very nice. And the atmosphere is very good. And the waitors are very friendly and helpfull every time. But I am not sure I want to come back, there are other better places. Funny enough, every time we leave feeling happy. They might be adding something to the air, some love potions?!

Nice setting although the perfunctory order to 'turn around and wait outside on the green bench' was a little surprising when there was no-one else waiting and the place was only a third full. Had assumed some familiarity with Antipodean coffee culture given the restaurant name but my request for a long macchiato was met with a blank stare and I was given a cappucino instead - FYI macchiato means 'stained' so caffe macchiato should only have a small amount of steamed milk on top, not half a cup of froth. Asked for the alcohol menu and had to get up and ask for it again after waiting 15 minutes - that gave me the opportunity to collect some salt and pepper as this hadn't been set at the table and these turned out to be very necessary given the flavourless food that arrived. We couldn't finish any of our meals. My wife and I agreed that a tip wasn't indicated but she tells me she accidentally paid one as it was added to the bill without her noticing - a fairly unpleasant tactic I've noticed in the UK on this visit.

Giving credit where credits is due, the food is good even if incredibly overpriced for the portions. That’s why I am giving two starts instead of one. The service, however, was terrible. The waitress kept zoning out and we had to repeat our order twice. She then forgot to add our discount code to the bill, and took another 10 minutes to come back with the correct bill. On top of that, she added a 10% charge that clearly said discretionary on the bill, which means she tipped herself without even asking and for not a good service whatsoever. I would understand if the restaurant was busy, but it really wasn’t when we were there. There were some free tables and they still made us sit on a table with other people. I guess if someone wants to have a private conversation, they simply can’t. Considering how popular flat white is with students, I was really surprised how bad the service was.

This place is hands down the BEST cafe in all of Durham. Whilst being slightly more expensive than a lot of the others, a lot of cafes are now raising their prices to similar levels whilst not providing any interesting, unique or different takes on the food and just serving mid-tier sandwiches and paninis. Flat White has a really exciting menu and my friend had a sweet chilli sriracha pancake with bacon, whilst I had the sweetcorn fritters with poached eggs, smashed avocado, bacon and aioli mayo. These are some of their newer brunch options and are really interesting and I would definitely recommend sweetcorn fritters, they were filling whilst delicious especially with the very well seasoned mayo and sweetcorn fritters, not too heavy whilst still having a good unique taste.

There are always queues outside this café; however, we thought our 15-minute wait was worth it. Really lovely staff, delicious food, perfect coffee and relaxing interior.

The place is really welcoming and cozy. Is full of wooden old elements, which give the atmosphere more historical, which fits the area around. As well the cappuccino was testy and good serviced. Guys there are really friendly and welcoming even we were there 30 min before closing, they didn’t say something but actually were happy to host us. It was a really good experience which I recommend the place for people whose love to have a good coffee at authentic place
