Hibou Blanc in Newcastle upon Tyne

We booked for Mother’s Day Sunday lunch. Online Sunday lunch was priced at £28 for two courses, and no mention of a Mother’s Day lunch price. When we arrived at the venue, I was shocked to see a Mother’s Day Sunday lunch price of £35 for two courses. Why is this not made available to see on their website. We booked the Sunday lunch thinking the two courses was £28, not £35. Although the food was good, had I known they had put £7 on a Sunday lunch just for Mother’s Day, and not advertised this online, I would have booked another venue who did not add to the their prices just at the venue

From the moment we walked in I could tell the service was poor. Stood at the podium waiting to get seated, no eye contact, no good evening how can we help, 3 staff passed us by. Sat at the table asked immediately what we’d like to drink, I asked for a moment, waited 15 mins to be asked again ended up flagging someone down. Clumsy service. Not a single smile from our waitress. The food itself was full of flavour but the presentation was very poor , we had the chateaubriand , supposed to be silver service, that was a joke I think. The interior is dated, terrible table decor and a lovely view of the happy shopper over the road If people aren’t returning here the food isn’t to blame, there was nothing that would make me return, I wonder if Branches in Jesmond could show your staff how it’s done? Might be a good place for your next team building excursion Food establishments have moved on you need to catch up!

Afternoon tea booked. It was excellent. Food was amazing great quality we were very full!! Super friendly staff well trained informed and extremely helpful. Booked for a birthday lunch,requested certain drinks for arrival ..they were there along with a birthday card from them to my wife.This set the bar high straight away for us the staff were so attentive the food was absolutely amazing..fillet steak,venison perfect.the atmosphere was really warm and inviting we could of spent all afternoon there.The cocktail bar a menu was a brilliant experience and loved the lay out.thankyou so much we will be back.

Do not go to Hibou Blanc for food as the food was awful 🤮 I ordered Ribeye steak and fries in peppercorn sauce and the whole steak was pure grizzle. 2 course = £27 and 3 courses = £30. When asked how food was I informed waitress that it was inedible so she said she would reduce meal from a 3 course to a 2 course price! and therefore £3 off total!!! Absolutely disgusting compensation! Please see photo and video. Pudding was tasteless apart from jar cherries, had shards of filo pastry instead of honeycomb which looks great but is tasteless and awful texture. Place would be good to have drinks only.

Took staff for our Christmas night out last night. First time I've been but fantastic open central bar layout which you don't see very often. Beer taps were lower than the bar rather than on top of it to keep the open feel but not sure that really works as the barman was virtually on his knees when pouring pints. Very minor thing but obviously didn't detract from what was a an excellent experience all round. The large bar area was very busy but the service was excellent, with no waiting at all. The atmosphere was vibrant, particularly with it being the Thursday before Christmas. After a few drinks sitting at one of the many high tables we went through to the separate dining area which was also fairly busy. The service in here was also excellent as was the food which surpassed all expectations, from duck leg in lentils to traditional Christmas dinner served in a contemporary style. I've had many twice baked cheese souffles but the one I had last night was fabulous & surpassed them. For my desert I had milk chocolate ganache, which was also excellent. All in all, a fabulous night, excellent food, served by very attentive & organised staff which couldn't be faulted. I will definitely be going back! Merry Christmas everyone!

Outstanding service in beautifully decorated private dining room. The staff here will go out of their way to make sure you’re looked after! There's always a fear when you book even a favourite for a group Christmas meal that a wheel will come off: new chef serves bullet-hard sprouts, thinks creme brulee should really be burnt, presents a symphony in brown over three courses... So our 16-strong party was delighted with our superb three-course Christmas lunch at Hibou Blanc, held at last year's price of £30 (£27 for two courses). We selected our choices in advance but there was no rush to eat and the servings were fresh and hot with not a sprout in sight! Lots of choice - eg. twice baked cheese soufflé, terrine en croute, smoked salmon, mushroom velouté; roast turkey with root veg; hake with a seafood broth, fish cakes, duck; xmas pud through to nectarine sorbet and cheeses (no extra charges). Several said it was the best xmas meal we'd had as a group and are wanting to book for 2024. Service was discreet but friendly.

Wow! An absolutely beautiful bar/restaurant. Amazing decor and lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Guy playing the piano and singing…. Wonderful! We had three courses plus oysters. The double baked cheese soufflé is to die for…. Mmmmmm! Sunday lunch was gorgeous and meat was tender too. Veggies and potatoes etc really nice. Only let down was the giant Yorkshire pudding which was hard and dry. I absolutely love Yorkshire puddings but that part was a little bit of a let down. Otherwise, gorgeous.

A celebratory meal, booked for post grad ceremony. Not locals, first visit. Initially booked my son wanted a decent, dog friendly restaurant. In the end, we were dog free and were able to switch from car to restaurant easily. Friendly greeting, lovely surroundings & ambience. Staff were all very nice. Coats taken & hung. Shown to our seats. Water offered and brought. Menu explained. (Surprised to find we had booked on a steak night and all ended up ordering steak). Drinks order taken, took a while to arrive. Food (we only had mains), we all agreed, was beautiful. 5 steaks (ribeye & fillets), with various sides. There were no negatives at all on the food. I’ve marked down 1 point for a number of things: Drinks arrived with one short, it wasn’t missing, just needed to be delivered to the table, but instead of bringing it straight away, our food order was taken (we seemed to have waited quite a while to place that too). Drink was delivered by someone else a few minutes later. Food took an age to arrive. Hubby ordered a 2nd wine, non chilled (erm, last glass poured, new bottle in chiller). We had booked for 6pm, although hubby & 1 were staying over, the others had a 2hr drive home. It took almost the 2 hours just to have drinks & a main. I popped to the loo, decor in keeping with the restaurant, but absolutely freezing! No time for desserts, bill requested. Now, I didn’t book the table and we clearly aren’t regulars, and in part, I will take some blame for lack of observation, however, there was no mention of the service charge (most establishments do draw your attention to it). As a result, not only did I pay the bill, but I also left a cash tip! Again, no “you do know there was a service charge?” Just thanked me 🙈 as I said, I’m the fool, but it’s the little things that stop this from being 5/5
