This is a wonderful little place. It felt like travelling to a different country. Great decor, friendly service and an astonishing range of teas. We also had two of the vegan cakes which were delightful. It was super quiet when we were in, I hope this isn't as a result of covid, it would be such a shame if this little place suffered as its a right little gem. Bought some tea for my mother as a gift too. Came to just £17 for two cakes, two posh teas and a packet of loose leaf. Well worth it!! Can't recommend enough!

Me and my pals had a lovely chilled time in this quirky tea cafe. We had a shared pot of chai latte and some vegan cake - which were both lovely. The only thing was that the service was quite slow but it kind of went with the chilled vibe I guess.

Nice place, fantastic selection of tea. You can spend hours here with friends. The cake is also lovely but was served cold and would have been nicer warmed up for a few seconds. The place was a bit cold in December, they could invest in some heaters and then my tea would not have gone cold so quickly! Also the (shared) toilets were pretty gross. In desperate need of a good clean and an upgrade

I'd been meaning to visit Tea Sutra for a while now as I've heard such good things about this place. After finishing work early one day I decided to go before home. It has such a lovely chilled out vibe and everything is vegan 🌱 The tea menu is so extensive and all sound so good but I chose the yogi tea which was warming and spicy. It came in a little glass teapot with a timer so you know just how long to let it brew. I also ordered a piece of vanilla and chocolate cheesecake which was really delicious. There was also a soup of the day and freshly made salads available which I will definitely be back to try very soon

A good find while wandering around Newcastle. They have a large menu of different types of teas that are brewed to order and served with care. No coffee. No wifi.Take your time to enjoy the tea and the ambience. There is a small menu of home freshly produced items e.g. "soup of the day is served until it is gone" at lunchtime only (12-3pm). They also sell a range of loose teas and tea paraphenalia.

Booked this evening set meal while visiting for lunch earlier in the week. Fantastic value 4 course Thai themed set menu £15. Greeted warmly with hibiscus tea, a starter salad with beautifully dressed fresh edamame beans, crunchy red cabbage medley and leaves with fresh mango plus different dressings and tiny pancakes for diy wraps.Main was a coconut based broth with rice tagliatelle and veg, followed by a heavenly coconut Panna Cotta topped with mango purée. We then had a choice of teas to finish. Service impeccable as usual, lovely calm atmosphere just very sad that so few diners took up this super opportunity. Visited here with a friend and ordered the Persian Tea (similar with spicy Chai tea) which cost me £2.9 for a teapot. Plus, the staff gladly provided us with a thermos with hot water for us to refill our empty teapots. I love the set up of the place but it may feel crampy because the tables are close to each other. The staff are so friendly and helpful. And patient when 45 minutes later you're still trying to decide which tea you want! The Tea Sutra Teahouse was a delight to discover after a few hours exploring Newcastle. If you like tea, we do, this is a must for anyone in need of a tranquil space and some wonderful teas. The selection of teas is extensive and takes you on a journey across all the great tea producers. We drank a white tea 'snow bud' and a green gunpowder tea both delicious and perfectly matching their beautifully written descriptions. The venue is also worth a mention, deep sofas with lovely fabrics and a warm and relaxing atmosphere. We ate two vegan cakes and just chilled and chatted for an hour or so out of the rain. I had this in mind as a good veggie place from my research ahead of our trip to Newcastle. In the end we visited between meal times and so didn't need to eat but the falafels we saw others tucking into looked and smelled really good!M and I tried 4 different teas between us, and enjoyed having a sofa so we could relax with the paper for a time. There were loads of teas on the menu; unfortunately I managed to pick two which weren't available which was a shame (so I can't give it 5/5). What we had was nice as was the lady who served us. So much to choose from that I didn't know where to start! The guy who worked there recommended a floral tea so I tried that. It was nice! Subtly sweet and it came in a glass teapot with strainer. Also had a falafel wrap with salad. Yummy! There's also a range of gluten-free treats if you have a sweet tooth but I was too full to try any. Enjoyed perusing the tea menu which held a world of adventure for the average tea drinker, I had a fruit tea infusion and my partner a rich exotic number, both served in quiant tea pots with extra hot water in a flask. We each had a light lunch, soup for me and falafel wraps for my other half, each dish was well presented and served and tasty. The vegan menu is small but I guess the small size of the cafe/kitchen must limit the amount and complexity of dishes they are able to offer. I went on to have a slice of cake which let things down a bit as it was dry and a bit stale. The cafe, as it's name would suggest, has an eastern theme, with traditional tables or low tables and floor seating with eastern type decor. The staff were very pleasnat and helpful. Being vegetarian, I was eager to try this place out, unfortunately there were aspects of the visit that were dissapointing. Upon entering we were ignored for a few minutes, eventually we asked if we were able to sit down and the waitress shrugged and said "Yeah...". My partner then ordered a tea to which the waitress said in an annoyed tone "that will take me 20 minutes to make", to which my partner replied that he'd have a slice of cake in the mean time. However, the waitress forgot the order and the tea never materialised. I myself asked if they were serving lunch, to which the waitress did not reply and vaguely gestured at a blank board. Mean while, in the kitchen (which is separated by a wooden screen) the chef tutted and sighed as if this was a chore. All of the waitresses were unfriendly, arrogant hipsters. The service really was so poor, it's a shame I won't be going back because the food was very good.

Beautiful tea spot in NCL. Wide range of teas. They provide a boiling water to refill the pot. There's oriental floor seating table as well. Loyalty card is available.

Tons of tea options and I chose the Chai of the day, which tasted fantastic! The girl was so nice and she wrote me the recipe for the Chai when I said I love the Chai so much. The atmosphere was so great! Visited another vegetarian place which was quite famous but this place was definitely better!

In definitiva ho fatto fatica a finirla. A parte il neo del cibo, migliorabile, tea sutra rimane comunque un posto tranquillo e rilassante dove poter passare un pomeriggio in relax.

Visited here at the back end of 2014 and it was fabulous. We had just been on a tour of Asia and this brought us right back there. Option of floor or table sitting makes the cafe fitting for everyone. I had the chai latte which was gorgeous and my friend got a fruit tea which provided about 4 cups - brilliant value. Really lovely little spot.

Popped in here this afternoon. We had the tea of the day, Indian chai with ginger cardemen lemon grass. Amazing and refreshing. The wraps are to die for. Had to wait a little longer for food as it got bus. But dident mind as the place was so chilled out. Back again in a heartbeat

I've now been to this little treasure it a place a good few times, for catch up with girls, a light bite with the boyfriend and to sit and relax for a bit with my book. There is an expansive tea menu so don't be afraid to ask questions, the staff are brilliant and there's certainly no snobbery. We aren't all tea experts after all. The cake has always been delicious without being pretentious, and the meals are scrummy; just don't expect it in a hurry as they do take their time sorting the food which in my opinion is more than fine.

This place was recommended to me by my cousin, and I am so glad we went. Hidden in a back street at the top of town, I could happily spend hours there, reading a book or catching up with friends. We attended on a Saturday lunch time, and it was not full - there were plenty of seats around. We sat in a table in the corner, with a window out to the city. You get a menu with pages and pages and pages of teas - there must be over a hundred listed? All with lovely descriptions to help you choose. I went for one off a special board, a Vanilla Chai, and it was lovely. It was such a taste experience! And the best part is, it is served in a beautiful elephant teapot! It took all of my reserve not to take it home with me!We also had food, we chose a wrap each - Neither myself, nor my partner are vegetarian, but by god, that wrap was the tastiest thing I have eaten in ages. It was delicious. It had roasted veg and spinach and squash in it - omg - amazing. Mmm mmm. I would go back next time I am visiting Newcastle, without doubt.

Small food menu, every morsel utterly delicious. Vast tea menu, trying tastes from my friends' delightful cups and glasses is a sensation too good for the taste buds to miss.Superb smiling service. The whole thing only slightly marred by the steep limb upstairs. Definitely not do-able if you have mobility issues. That's the only drawback.

I'm becoming something of a regular at Tea Sutra, which considering that I rarely go into Newcastle these days really is quite something. There's a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the smells hit you as you walk in the door, absolutely beautiful. There's a cushioned area in one corner where you can sit on the floor and use tiny tables, which is where I mostly sit.The range of teas is fantastic, I have a few favourites including ginger and lemongrass green tea and chilli cherry rooibos. You can buy bags of tea to take home too, and they're absolutely delicious, full of flavour. Tea is served in one of their range of quirky teapots, and comes with a sand timer which tells you when it's ready. They also provide flasks of hot water on request to refill your pot. If I have the option I generally always prefer to drink tea from a big white mug, but the quirky range of cups at Tea Sutra is actually one of my favourite things about it, and I've even been known to drink out of orange cups there and enjoy it!! The range of soups and wraps on offer is displayed on boards in the shop. I usually come in for tea, but have had food a couple of times, and it's delicious (although all vegetarian, even a meat lover like me can appreciate it), and the cakes are gorgeous! Maybe one to avoid if you're looking for coffee, as the name suggests, it's all tea here, and if you prefer cold drinks then the range is limited, but if you love tea, then this is a must visit!

This is a very peaceful, atmospheric place which smells great as soon as you walk in. There was an amazing range of teas, we tried two each. The wraps were excellent, very tasty and finished off with their raw chocolates, wow! Service was prompt, polite and thoughtful.

I've been here loads of times and usually love it but today was frustrating. We arrived a little afrer opening at noon and there was one other couple in the cafe. We took the menus and I asked what the chai of the day and wraps were. The chai of the day wasn't ready and we were told it would be at least 40 minutes The waitress also didn't know what food would be available they'd stopped doing the lovely onion bagi wraps and no food was ready to order yet. I ordered a mixed berry fruit tea served iced and my friend something she hadn't tried before which was quite nice. As soon as the boards were turned over with the food choices I ordered a falafel wrap and asked if it could have chutney with it. The waitress wasn't sure and said she'd find out (apparently not as it didn't have any when it came). We waited 40 minutes for food which seemed excessive. Though the food as always was nice. The person at the next table tried to order iced tea after admiring mine but they'd run out of ice (30mins after opening).By the time we'd left about 1:15 there was still no chai tea available.I hope this is just a one off because I love this place. It's relaxed tasty and the decor is warm and cosy. It's not cheap at £2.80-3.50 a pot of tea and £5 for a veggie wrap but it's usually worth it. I guess I can't pop in for a quick lunch if this is going to be the way of things to come.

This a really great place and one of it's kind in Newcastle! The atmosphere is great with fantastic asian/Moroccan decor that just makes you feel relaxed. The tea selection is great, well priced and the presented amazingly! Hardly wanted to drink it, it was that pretty! Also the staff supply you with plenty of hot water for top ups so you can get the most out of one pot!The food is amazing! I'm not even veggie/vegan but I enjoy the odd veggie meal and the food here does not disappoint, so full of colour and flavour!A must visit if you're in newcastle and fancy a cuppa.

loved the tea selection however we visited at 12noon and the daily specials weren't ready. We had soup, but the waitress got the order muddled up, food was still nice.

I went there yesterday with two friends for the first but surely not the last time: 120 different varieties of tea, 3 vegan wraps (come with corn chips & a decent-sized, very varied & very fresh salad), good helping of substantial soup with home-made bread & hummus, (+ other savouries that I can’t remember), large selection of vegan cakes. No background music, comfy chairs & sofas – very relaxed atmosphere. In quiet but central side street; up quite narrow stairs: code needed for toilet, which is half-way down the stairs & adequate but not up to the standard of the rest of the place.

Visited on a recommendation from a friend. Place is beautiful inside and was greeted by a lovely lady who explained the menu to us. I didn't know that it was vegan before I went however the flavour we had for our cake was amazing and would recommend trying it.There are so many teas to choose from and reasonably priced. If you are having a busy day take 20 mins out and have a brew you will leave a better person.

Just a short walk from the metro and definitely worth it. Bustling atmosphere and quite busy but we were served quickly and the food was yummy. Would recommend the sausage butty as you get loads of sausage!

We visited here on a Saturday afternoon. 2 adults and 2 kids 10 and under. What a fantastic experience!!! The ice cream was great and tasty and the staff were great, so friendly and knowledgeable. It takes a little time due to how busy they were but was worth the wait. Will be back. The kids are desperate for another visit.
