We were really looking forward to coming here after seeing the reviews on social media. They "have no chef" and so the Manageress had to step in and unfortunately the food was bland and very underwhelming! The staff were attentive but once we told them about our negative experience, nothing was suggested in terms of trying to make uo for this.

Great find this. One of the hidden gems in toon.

A little gem hidden down in the next to Eldon Square. Nice entry system in which the door is styled as a phone box, press the button, and the phone box door opens. A great selection of beers and spirits

I recently visited this cocktail bar and was very impressed. The food was fresh and well presented, with a great balance of flavors. The service stood out for its attention to detail and professionalism. Whether you’re there for the cocktails or the food, this place offers a top-notch experience. Highly recommended!

Usually enjoy the meals here, unfortunately, not this time.. had The Don.. bit overdone couldn't cut it, it should have mozzarella, but no mozzarella but the waiter assured me I was wrong! and it did have mozzarella?? Friend had Gyros.. it was a chip wrap.. tiny piece of chichen and tiny amount or tztaziki very dry. Maybe try somewhere else next time

Great venue and decor. Too many tables reserved for people that didn't actually turn up for their booking but other than that, a good selection of beers and friendly staff.

Booked a table to watch the 12:30 Newcastle Match with food and drinks. It was a fantastic experience from beginning to end. Civilised, clean, friendly with excellent service. A perfect afternoon!

Popped in for a drink before going to a gig at the City Hall. First time in here and it was lovely. We didn't have food but the table behind us did and it looked amazing. Will deffo go back again. Loved the décor of the place too.

Visited The Exchange on my birthday. I had been there many times in the past when it was a bit of a run-down drinking den. What a pleasant surprise. My son had booked a table for 4 (me, my wife, my son & his fiance) to watch the Sunderland v Newcastle FA derby. He had also asked for a table with a view of a TV. The table position & seating turned out to be perfect. A good selection of beers, wine & cocktails available, all served by efficient & approachable bar staff. I thoroughly enjoyed the drinks & the game. All in all, a good few hours spent in a great atmosphere.

First time here tonight and won’t be our last! Amazing food, fabulous cocktails and love the vibe ! The fush tacos were soooo lush and the booty call cocktail is very moreish and we even had room for dessert!

Went for late afternoon drink with friends. Served by female member of staff who’s customer service skills clearly didn’t stretch to smile / look interested in customer / basic courtesy- she was rude and unpleasant. Drank one, overpriced, glass of wine and went to Banyan - totally different experience which I would recommend! Will not be returning to The Exchange

Do not visit on a Friday at 3pm for a cup of tea with a colleague because you’ll end up buying rudolph cocktails and jealous of everyone’s flashing antlers then before you know it it’s 2am and you’re in cosy joes with your laptop bag.

Did not eat here but the atmosphere was great in this little hidden gem of a bar. Well worth a visit and we will certainly be back

The Exchange is a wonderful speakeasy style bar right in the middle of Newcastle that is tucked away just off Northumberland Street. (It used to be the Purple Bear and before that the Northumberland Arms). You enter through and old style "phone box" and step down I to a wonderfully decorated, quirky pub. Everything about it fabulous. The menu is limited, for good reason, as everything on it is of the highest quality and the choice of beers and cocktails is excellent. The service is also top class and in my recent visit Emily and in particular, Charlotte were fabulous. I always try and pop in when I am in Newcastle and it is definitely highly recommended.

Great pub this been a couple of times recently when visiting the city hall and Theatre Royal, for a gig , the food , beer and service are all spot on looking forward to going back again soon..

This is fantastic venue for drinks with friends, centrally located just off the main shopping high street it offers a wide range of reasonably priced drinks in a relaxing delightful atmosphere. Accommodating and extra helpful staff complete the exceptional leisure experience

Food was really nice. And the drinks were reasonable for the place.

This is a great little find. The venue is underground. The door into the venue is opened by pushing the button on the side. There have been football games playing on the screens the last few times I have been here. There have always been enough table to sit at. The costs of the drinks is ok. It's a good venue to visit when you are on the lash.

We Came on a match day Saturday,it was really busy. staff were friendly and very welcoming. We didn’t have to wait at all to get served. Top place in the heart of newcastle the don flatbread is to die for 😋 See you soon :)

We stumbled across this prohibition bar when walking up a lane in Newcastle and curiosity got the better of us. Initially we were unsure about the entrance but then discovered it was the telephone box door....this made the bar seem secretive and intriguing! Down some steps into the most delightful well laid out bar. Drinks reasonably priced, sadly we missed happy hour by minutes....I would recommend visiting between 4 and 6pm for the 2 for 1 cocktails! Would i visit again? A big fat yes!

After working our way down into the bar we enjoyed tasty themed cocktails and enjoyed the excellent decor of this bar. Has the speakeasy style but still felt busy enough that it was comfortable to be in.

First time visiting and it was brilliant, the staff were all friendly ensuring we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The drinks were lovely and reasonable priced. Loved the decor! Definitely will be back

Another fab Friday afternoon at The Exchange. Booked in advance through ITISON - tapas and cocktails deal. We were greeted by PJ and shown to our table where iced water was served. PJ explained tapas and cocktails options and ensured we had everything we needed throughout our visit. Service, food and cocktails were excellent and we will be back.

What an amazing bar/ restaurant the Exchange is. It is now my favourite go to place whenever I go to Newcastle for a drink or meal.The cocktails are the best that I have ever had,and the food menu is excellent. The Exchange has a low level of music on in the background making the experience of sitting having a drink/ meal absolutely amazing. I also like Weatherspoons for this reason they do not play any piped music at all, however the Exchange is a far superior better class of venue to socialise. The atmosphere is relaxing,the decor is stunning,set during the prohibition,with quirky lights, fittings and furnishings. I would like to say a special thanks to Emily ,PJ and Beth, and the rest of the team,it is a well run establishment,the staff are always smiling ,friendly and very accommodating,even when the place is super busy. Paul the chef creates some amazing meals,all meals are well executed and presented to a very high standard,the food prices are very reasonable. Unfortunately Newcastle on the whole seems to be struggling at the beginning of the week,most pubs, bars and shops are deadly quiet,in fact a lots of place s are closed on a Monday. Hopefully when the new government buildings are completed which are in the centre of Newcastle,the city may be livelier at the beginning of the week. I have just come back from 2 nights staying at the Lowery Hotel in Manchester,they have the same problem,Manchester was so quiet on Monday evening. It seems to be a a country wide problem due to the cost of living crisis/ post pandemic.

Booked a table today for my sisters birthday. When we arrived we were greeted and served by Emily and Beth who had gone above and beyond to make our lunch extra special. The table was decorated with petals and a Happy Birthday banner. We ordered a 'Call me Maybe' cocktail. All i can say is Yum! 😋😋 The food was lovely, especially the Pesto Sweet Potato Fries. Would highly recommend. Lovely decor, great atmosphere, amazing staff and food and cocktails to die for x Will definitely be returning 😊 Thank you all for an amazing afternoon! X

What an absolute gem in Newcastle - - highly recommended. Went with friends, such a great environment with the right amount of music and charm. Able to socialise with friends as music at the correct volume to allow chatting without getting a sore throat! Food choices excellent, staff attentive, table set out beautifully. The Exchange is my favourite place in Newcastle to socialise with my friends, it is somewhere that has an amazing atmosphere,welcoming staff, a place to have drink and catch up with friends without having to shout at each other above ridiculously loud music like most places in a Newcastle.There is some background music however it is kept at a low volume level to enable total socialisation with friends and family. I have introduced some of my friends to the experience of drinking at the Exchange,all of which have thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and said that they will return. It’s underneath Eldon Square ,located between Marks and Spencer’s and The main Eldon Square entrance on Northumberland Street.

First time here. I came on a Tuesday afternoon so the place wasn't busy but still had lovely friendly service from the two team members working. Drinks are reasonably priced. Didn't get food so can't comment. The place was nice and clean. Will be back to try the food.

Come here near enough every Friday with my friends and we couldn't recommend the place enough! The staff have been amazing from day dot and couldn't be more attentive. Beth serves us every time and makes sure we are always happy, comfortable and stocked up...

Great place to visit. Staff are exceptional, can’t rank them highly enough. Food and drinks are always of a great standard. Not many places can cater for football fans, families and ladies out for cocktails at the same time.

Come here mostly on match days for food pre match or post match beers. The service is outstanding, especially Sam, she’s class.
