Local pub, looks to have many regular customers. Drinks are reasonably priced. It was very busy when we visited.

When in the toon it's a must bar to call in for a beer good geordie hospitality

I visited here by myself and I felt very much like an outsider, which is understandable: this is a local's bar. Karaoke was fun and the drinks cheap, the people can be quite rowdy.

As a football fan this is a fantastic spot pints are just over 3 quid and the atmosphere is always great. Make a point of visiting everytime we travel to Newcastle

Booked table to watch nufc v psg champions league match, the service was top rank and the staff were great. The atmosphere of the bar was the best I've seen in Newcastle.

Had been in before with the guys years ago so tried it on a Friday afternoon with wife . Asked one of the regulars if the seats and table were being used she said no but watch you wallets and handbags on reading other reviews others had said the same thing so drank our drinks and left

No messing around or you’ll get it from the landlady - a wee Yorkshire lass that can deal with the most boisterous customers! Weekends great evenings with Ophelia Balls and DJ Chris Parker. We’ll be back, definitely recommend!

Called in here for a few drinks while out for a friend's birthday on Sunday.. what a night we had friendly staff good range of drinks and shots.. karaoke was brilliant we even got up to sing.. a propa traditional boozer with no airs or graces. Fantastic local in the city centre.. will definitely be back well done team garter.

Great bar in a great location, drinks are reasonably priced and has live sport on TV with a fantastic atmosphere especially on Toon match days. Staff are friendly and polite and the Manager is fantastic!!

New barmaid on today called Wendy... She must be on speed or have OCD or summit like that! I normally only have a pint but she has forced me to have 3 pints so far! and better still during that time she has never stopped cleaning! Even hoyed a local lout out for trying to sell summit! She shouted Oi Out! Ye knar why! - deffo a no nonsense women! (She's a Geordie equivalent to a Peggy Mitchell!) I'll pop back next week for another afternoon of entertainment!

Popped in on a friday night for 1 or 2 drinks with friends we stayed all night amazing atmosphere donna,john and jess made us feel very welcome and were the main reasons we stayed all night along with the other customers so friendly and the clean crisp cheap drinks thankyou we will definitely be back

Early morning regulars were already settled in supping John Smith's, Newcastle Brown and lager. Friendly if subdued atmosphere. Staff were polite, and prices reasonable, but this was a Wednesday as well so probably not the best time to judge.

First time in this bar in the 22 years I have lived in the UK. It had such a reputation for being rough as a chip. It can't be further from the truth. Amazing community of people who clearly have history together. The place is friendly, drinks are a good price. Staff friendly and happy. The entertainment was good. If your passing drop in.

Only been in pre and post match. Very cheap and quality is good. Customers are above average age for city centre pubs, but that's ok with me.

Great real British pub. Booked in for the cup final, had a great time with some great people. Some very sore heads today! We will definitely be returning next time we are in town

I was in Newcastle for the weekend with my wife. We popped in to The Black Garter for a quick two pints at lunch time on Friday. We ended up spending most of our weekend there 🤣 It's a fantastic pub where we met the best of Newcastle. I have to say everyone of the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. For example on the Sunday we had our bags with us. One of the staff, without us asking, offered to store them downstairs for us to allow us relax. We're not thinking about our next weekend in Newcastle, we're thinking about our next weekend in The Black Garter. Thank you.

Always the best entertainment and best beer

Lovely pint of John Smith's. Staff need customer service training. Bar man did not say one word to me.ask for John Smith's Please.give him my money. Said thank you when I got my change.not one word from him.sorry I inconvenienced your staff for calling in for a pint

Drinks are cheap and staff is very attentive. A place for both locals and tourists.

We were in here on a Monday it was great what a laugh,cheap nice pint karaoke great 👍

What a no frills, down to earth bar to drink in 😊 We were freezing from being in the grainger market- and needed a warm place immediately. My partner stuck his head in for me and was awash with immediate relief from the warmness of the inside haha. Bar staff welcomed us, were kind and a laugh. The locals were chatty but not laddish or loutish. I really liked it! It's an escape from neon lights and cocktail menus and girls doing tiktoks and gram reels. I'll be back!
