I’ll have to go back to taste their divine food and have a lovely time in their cosy warm pub. The last time I’ve been there it was an unforgettable experience for the eyes, the mouth and the rest of the body. Their fish cakes : a delight ! Delicious food, great service and cosy atmosphere. Thank you !

The Phene is set in a great prime location - the garden is a lovely botanical area to chill out and retreat from inside the pub and restaurant. Been here twice for both neices hosting special occasions Baptism and Baby Shower. Food most recently was edible yet shockingly average considering the price points; waiting time for meals to come to tables was disappointing considering event was planned and pre-booked. Would not return primarily to eat, will return on the basis that ambience is 10 out of 10, appreciate the outdoor greenery and luxe-comfort decor, interiors and furnishings throughout.

This was without doubt the worst most unorganised clown show of a dinner service I have ever experienced in my life! After the friendly waitress took our orders it went down hill from there. We waited an hour for one of our party of six’s meals to come out (bacon cheese burger) which was tepid and unappealing. Two more meals came out and were sent straight back as they were both completely wrong. In total it took around two hours for all six of us to get our food. The food itself is of a very poor quality especially for the price you are paying. Cold meat, cold limp fried eggs and a piece of battered fish that would not of looked out of place in a kids toy kitchen. The so called chef/ food warmer upper was so overwhelmed he looked like he would burst out crying at any moment. It wasn’t even a busy service and he seemed to be way way out of his depth! Ordering drinks at the bar was a challenge all in itself as the member of staff was so inept that she asked me “how do you make a shandy” my Sister had to talk her through the whole long complicated process of putting raspberry gin and lemonade in a glass! This place is a disaster and it is not a Beefeater anymore even though the interior is still covered in Beefeater artwork. A new chef or 3 are needed asap and a serious amount of staff training is the only this that will save this rapidly sinking ship.

If it's always this quiet in here, I will keep coming back! Finally, no loud music : )

Had a very unfortunate experience this evening. I am type 1 diabetic and came into the BFI to buy a full sugar coke as I was having an urgent extreme hypo (low blood sugar). My boyfriend went to the bar and paid £3.70 for a half of draft coke. I started drinking it and realised it was so full of ice it was about 4 mouthfuls which wouldn't cut it to get my blood sugar up. I asked him to go back and get them to top it up a little (considering we were already short changed due to the ridiculous amount of ice). The bar man refused (short guy, white with dark hair) saying he "wasn't allowed to top up drinks" and made my boyfriend pay another £3.70 for a glass of coke with no ice. Which was totally flat by the way. Pathetic.

This is what 28 pounds gets you these days. A supposed sharing plate which poorly failed to live up to its branding. It also came to the table within 5 minutes, room temperature. Truly disappointing. I obviously don’t go to a pub to get good food and I totally understand that prices have gone up everywhere and portions have become smaller as businesses struggle. But I just wish kitchens would put a little bit of effort into it. Our dirty plates were also never cleared as we finished our wine. Again, a reflection of how the general level of service in pubs has come down everywhere.

Very friendly staff. Quite a few tables outside, right on the river, so beautiful spot in the sunshine. They dont take bookings for outside tables so just luck on grabbing one. We were lucky and got a table for 4 outside. We could order using the scan QR code at the table, which is great as you dont have to take up bar space inside (or leave your table if there was only one of you dining). Seems to be dog friendly (outside). Food was good pub grub! I had the smaller fish and chips, which came with mushy peas and a delicious tartare sauce, it was delicious! My friends sausage and mash looked good too! Good choice of beers, wines, cocktails. Would definitely recommend.

Not sure why this place is getting such a bad rep. I’ve been going for years and since the change of owner I don’t see any change in the taste of their signature Maru Bhajia or chutneys. In fact we travel from Croydon to just have them! New owner is super pleasant every time we’ve seen him. We went there on Friday to pick up a takeaway and as we were the last customers of the day he gave us extra Bhajias and chutneys. Soo yummy! Love this place.
