Hercules Pillars in Camden

I had a very bad meal here last night. I was told that the risotto was freshly made in house so I ordered. When it arrived, it was a large glutinous mess. I started to eat, but it was so completely overwhelmed with cheese, that it was impossible to taste anything else. When the waiter came over to ask if everything was ok I told him that the meal was sub standard. He went to the kitchen to ask if they could do another one with less cheese but the kitchen said that this was the way that they did it. I wasn’t offered an alternative and as I was going to the theatre, I had no choice but to finish it, but I wouldn’t go back. I was surprised, I had expected better food at a Masonic pub.

We were here for football game, we ordered some small bites. I highly recommend chill squid popcorn, it’s like takoyaki but sweeter, and we love it pretty much. Crispy fried chicken is genuinely good, fried chips as well. Beef brisket croquettes is the thing I never had, I am not a fan of, to be honest. I assume someone would like it much than I do. However, love it with seed mustard sauce, the combination enrich the taste. I’d say it’s a nice pub where me and my friends enjoyed the time here. Really should try squid popcorn.

I love the Hercules Pillars! So smart and amazingly friendly staff who look after your every need. The food is great. I’ve been there probably 10 times in the last 2 years and it never disappoints. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our first visit to this pub. Great friendly staff. I had the mushroom risotto and hubby had the steak and ale pie and we both really enjoyed the food. A couple of wines in the nice atmosphere was a lovely end to our day.

we went there when there was a basketball game night and it was very loud and we felt like it was impossible to chat. the food was good even though the hamburger was small. i recommend to try their fish and chips!

What a lovely little find this was. Beautiful little pub with good character. The staff are incredibly friendly and treat you like a local that has been visiting for years. I had the all day breakfast for lunch (yes I know). Wow, very well cooked, good size portions and I didn't even have to wait to long. I will definitely be back next time I am in this part of London.

Called in to watch two rugby games. Great relaxed atmosphere in the pub and very friendly efficient staff. They took orders at your table! Great food too.

The Hercules Pillars is an absolute triumph of a pub. The reassuring wood panelling, the abundant screens, the wide ranging selection of beverages, the welcoming staff, the table service! If you are walking past, stop and walk right in and savour this gem in the heart of Holborn. This pub is not that convenient for me to get to, but I'll have no qualms with going that extra mile to take in the air at the Herc.

It was quiet today as I went in for lunch. Great beer, good food, and friendly service. Maintains five stars

Very unreasonable management masking themselves under T&Cs which legally are correct but the attitude towards the end customer wasn't reasonable - this regarding a reservation with an upfront payment which could ne deducted on drinks at the bar but even if the party actually spent more than the minimum spend because the initial drinks weren't registered because the staff didn't open the tab we were still charged for the minimum spend fee UPDATE - after receiving the comment from Jade, I've sent multiple emails to the email she provided to no response, which further shows my points above regarding the service from this pub and their respect for customers

Friendly staff and FABULOUS toilets, very clean 👌

We had a great time. The server Jerry was as kind and generous as one can be, as he made every effort to enable us to watch a tennis match on tv. Very attentive staff!

Good for watching the football if you're in town, but the pints are on the expensive side, which is understandable if you're in central London, but they don't even fill them up to the top of the glass which is inexcusable, when you mention it to the staff they shrug their shoulders, very poor.

Nice bar not on the tourist map. Frequented by locals. Has multiple screen to watch sports. Pizza was good. And beer was fine. Service (just one person) was very good.

Tuvimos cena de Navidad servida por Jade que era excelente. Ella se aseguró de que teníamos todo lo necesario sin imponer demasiado. La cena de pavo estaba deliciosa y la salsa era excelente. Era una porción muy grande con un montón de cerdos y patatas asadas. El pub tiene un ambiente encantador y si te gusta el deporte se puede reservar una mesa con vistas a uno de los muchos televisores. Sin duda volveremos a comer aquí de nuevo! ¡Gracias Jade!

Estaba abierto hasta tarde, tenían asientos disponibles, así que estábamos contentos. El lugar era agradable, amable y con precios justos de bebidas. Lugar cómodo, volvería feliz.

We came to The Hercules Pillars for a football match, and honestly could not have found a better pub to enjoy a match at! The staff was attentive, the sound quality good, the screen for the match was huge, and the atmosphere was great (without being too intense). Would highly recommend!

Was walking by as a pedestrian and they had the entire sidewalk blocked as well as part of the road, with patrons leaning on parked cars. Make way for pedestrians. Had to walk out into busy street to get by.

We stayed over in the city from Grimsby this August bank holiday.we had breakfast here the best we've ever had in London.The owner is wonderful as are the staff so friendly. Spotlessly clean ,highly recommend,will be visiting again soon .

Great pub with beautiful ornate features, great selection of ales and lagers with a decent selection of wines. Although we didn't eat here the menu was more than good and well priced. I would definitely recommend a visit

Estoy seguro de que este es un gran lugar a cualquier hora del día o de la noche. Estuve aquí para desayunar con amigos y almorzar solo. Las dos comidas eran deliciosas; el servicio era excelente; el lugar estaba muy limpio. Tiene una apariencia de pub con un ambiente cómodo y acogedor. El personal no podría ser más servicial y amable, pero en absoluto intrusivo. Es un paseo muy breve desde el concurrido Covent Garden, pero parece como si estuviera en otro mundo - - uno más relajado, agradable! Me sentí muy cómodo estando allí por mi cuenta para una comida, pero también es un gran lugar para disfrutar de bebidas o una comida con amigos. ¡Gran hallazgo!

Had a group booking for the downstairs dining room on a busy Friday evening. The buffet curry was plentiful and of fantastic quality. The generous cheese board after was also varied and tasty. The cask ales were of great quality. Usually after these functions we move on to other venues but this time we stayed and used the bar area on the ground floor and time flew. Before we knew it it was time to head off to our various railway stations to get home. Staff were very helpful and as I’m not great on stairs to get down to the gent’s, allowed me to use the ladies on the ground floor, guarding the door so any ladies weren't surprised by a big ugly bloke coming out. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them. They even provided some boxes so we could box up our leftovers. Two of our group then took these round the Covent Garden and Strand areas to give to the street sleepers. A great venue and I look forward to returning soon to repeat the experience.

Had the Chicken Schnitzel Burger (£13.75 in London, pretty reasonable price). Was very good. The Schnitzel was really crispy without a trace of oil and the lettuce was similarly crisp and fresh. Chips in a little brass bucket thing that kept them hot for ages. Reccomend.

Este es un pequeño pub fantástico. A 3 minutos a pie del centro de Covent Garden. El ambiente era encantador, el personal era amable y atento desde el momento en que entramos. El servicio estaba todo en la mesa - no tratar de empujar a un bar lleno de gente o, lo que es más importante, llevar sus propias bebidas de vuelta a la mesa. La comida era comida de pub honesta, nada flash pero todavía muy sabroso. Recomiendo encarecidamente reunirse aquí en lugar de uno de los bares más concurridos de la calle.

Un soir d’août, nous avons parcourus les rue pour essayer de trouver un petit restaurant loin des attrapes touristes et arnaques. Nous avons trouvés un petit pub, d’abord le pub est mignon cependant nous avons été terriblement déçu du repas. Mon compagnon a souhaité prendre une pizza. Nous avons reçu un pizza très probablement surgelée et très petite. 12 livres pour cela. Déçu. Personnel accueillant mais au moment de l’addition on nous réclame 10% de la note. Merci de nous avoir facturé le total 36 livres pour un repas moyen/surgele. J’ai oublié de précisé que mon soda n’avait pas de bulle. Résultat nous avons perdu 40 euros pour rien.

Popped in after going to the cinema. Fantastic place. Staff all very friendly. Nice atmosphere. Wine and the food we had was excellent especially the burger. Definitely recommended.

Great place ! I was walking around and decided to make a stop. The bar is lovely and the staff too ! One lady on particular great and always smiling ! I want to come back already ! I had some food too It’s was good and big portion ! You can seat inside or outside too ! :)

The atmosphere and ambiance was comforting. Our server, I didn’t catch her name, really made the whole experience memorable and ticked off one of my bucket list of items from London. It was refreshing to have a considerate and attentive server who I suspect was from New Zealand. 5 stars.

Stopped for a quick, pre theatre meal, having not booked anywhere. Food was hot, freshly cooked and good value for central London. Service was good and speedy. (We were there at 5.30 , so fairly early). Sausage n mash with gravy and veggie pizza were out choices but other pub standards available! Lots of screens, so probably not a good spot to eat on 'match' days or if you want somewhere quiet! Toilets also good sized and clean/well stocked.

Not many people in, so poor atmosphere. I'm sure this changed after we left to go and eat before the opera.

Really disappointing service today. Ordered one vegan pizza for my friend. Enjoyed so we ordered another, and it came with vegetarian cheese. The manager took his time to look through the footage and wanted to show me that I had ordered a vegetarian rather than vegan. Would not budge and so will not be coming back sadly.

Fantastic pub and wasn't too crowded. The service was amazing, fast, and very polite. The food was beautiful, and the portion sizes were more than enough. A fantastic range of ales etc, honestly this is a must visit!

Really enjoyed our lunch here. We had the Sausages and mash and the House Burger. Fab on both counts. Really lovely food and friendly service. Special thanks to the staff member who saved the day when my phone was nearly stolen from our table. Fast action saved the day. So grateful 🙏. A good lesson in staying alert!

A nice quaint public house. I didn't sample any food, just got a drink and sat in the outside drinking area at the front. It was a lovely day and enjoyed watching the World go by.

Visited the pub for nostalgic reasons as my friend managed the pub in the 80s. Mis communication on my drink. My husband ordered a vodka, soda and fresh lime. I got lime cordial. After a couple of sips I thought it wasn't correct. Approached the guy behind the bar. He said the mis communication was our fault not his . After years of drinking the same drink, I'm sure my husband knows what i drink He s aid I'd drunk half the drink , although not below the first mark! Absolutely rude and a completely threatening. We've had 3 days in London and recieved fabulous service everywhere. This man was awful! I work in retail for a large company and would be horrified if my staff behaved like this. A very nice female almost apologied for his behaviour. I was actually in tears by the time we spoke to her about the incident. I would like to say , do not visit this pub , but I do think this was one awful individual In all my training in customer serving I have never come across such an awful person. I asked to speak to a manager...he was management. Perhaps poor service and bully tactics is the pub's ethos? I do not usually leave a review but this man was so rude and threatening I feel compelled to do so. I did ask for someone to take this further with but he insisted he was management!

Best chicken Caesar salad ever! Never ever take it off the menu! We came in before our Sunday matinee trip to see standing at the skys edge and we’re met by lovely attentive staff, nice quiet atmosphere and dream service! Will come back for a few beers next time as they had quite a tasty ale selection too. Great pub!

Some friends and I stopped hete a few Saturdays ago and had a brilliant time. The staff were great, the atmosphere superb and the singer was very talented and engaging.

Went there as a tourists, went there for a pint and also for food. The food was good but, the place also is great but was a very odd thing with a girl from the staff, she was asking to many times if we want something else and popup very soon with the bill, the thing is we were not ready to leave yet, so very strange. The table was not booked or anything because we asked so i really don't understand... Probably wanted to make room for regular costumers but was too obvious...

Visited the Hercules Pillars this evening with my good friend. Fantastic ambiance, great music from my younger days and SUPER friendly staff. Jon & Martyna always go the extra mile and it shows. Very kind, caring, enthusiastic and always go above and beyond to make the customer happy. Would 1000% come back. 5*

What a great surprise this pub was. Service was excellent, nice friendly bar staff. They have a varied selection of around 30 whiskies, I opted for a double Makers Mark at £11.75. They have 4 cask ales on offer and an excellent selection of draught and bottled beers. From Mon-Sat there is a happy hour (1pm to 8pm) where you will find selected offers. There is a function room downstairs and this pub is conveniently located, Covent Garden is a 5 minute walk away. Finally the toilets, exceptionally clean. All in all a great pub.

I’ve been to the Hercules Pillars many times. The staff are unfailingly, polite and helpful, the food is excellent value and the beer is extremely well kept. A must if you are in London
