La Petite Auberge

St Mary's, Islington
12/10/2020: We went there for lunch: - The wine is excellent, including the house wine. - The food is very tasty: the bread, the cheese, the meat, the dessert; every single one is just excellent. Overall, a fantastic taste of authentic French food in London.
18/08/2020: My friend and I decided to have lunch here, using the Eat Out promotion. I was also told that I could use my Meerkat 241 offer as well, so this was great news. We had a carafe of Sauvignon Blanc, which was delicious. My friend ordered cod with mash and veg and she said it was gorgeous. I had entrecote with blue cheese sauce and frites. The steak was cooked as requested and the frites were crisp and tasty. The service was very friendly and it was so good to be able to visit this restaurant again. A really lovely experience.

The Old Fountain

Bunhill, Islington
25/09/2020: In my 'umble opinion this is the best pub in London. I frequently pop in when in London visiting Moorfields Eye Hospital which is nearby. In these covid times I rang ahead, the day before, and gave a rough ETA (I was travelling up from Wales). "Yeah, no problem sir, what'll you be ordering? We'll put one aside for you!" (It was a Sunday Roast) There is a chalk board with a choice of about 20 craft beers and lagers. The food came and it was hot, fresh and very tasty. The social distancing measures were phenomenal and every care was taken. I was joined by family and their 2 year old was made particularly welcome. I get a very warm welcome every time.

Wahaca Islington

St Mary's, Islington
27/09/2020: I've never visited a wahaca before. I've always had images of Mexican restaurants in the uk of rubbish stodgy burritos with piles of overcooked tomato rice and premade margarita, but after seeing reviews on tripadvisor, I searched for the menu online and was pleasantly surprised (I dont even think they have rice on the menu). We entered and were made to feel welcome. Alot of restaurants seem to go out of their way at the moment to make dining as unenjoyable as possible with over the top unnecessary restrictions. None of that rubbish here.We took "the favourites" set menu and wow everything on it was really good. Both of us agreed that the cauliflower was the best dish and the pork taco the weakest (but it was still really good).Service friendly and efficient. Take allergies seriously. I think our server was called Alessandro (?)The small plates is a great concept, a good drinks list (but no frozen margaritas:( )The only minor negative is that the tomato salsa with the tortillas wasn't brilliant (but that's one component of one dish out of 7 dishes)
27/09/2020: Since the moment we arrived the staff were super attentive and helpful, explained the new covid safety rules clearly and everything was super speedy - even though it was a busy night, our server was brilliant. The food was fantastic, the vegan burrito was so yummy! Great cocktails too. Will come back here again for sure! :)

Clerkenwell, Islington, 30-45£
29/08/2020: A lovely, cosy restaurant with great food, wine and friendly staff. Super dog friendly too. Our Cocker Spaniel was very impressed with all the attention she received from the waiters! A really lovely Saturday evening dinner experience.
27/07/2020: A seriously good post-lockdown Saturday lunch. Vinoteca bavette has been one of those key things missing from life, and this lunch corrected that. Great food, great service, great wine. Vinoteca is back: hooray.

Comptoir Gascon

Clerkenwell, Islington, 30-45£

Bunhill, Islington
04/10/2020: I was very impressed with the service received from the very friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent, compliments to the chef. I'd recommend Kennerdys to family and friends.
04/09/2020: Flawless chips. Really well cooked, the fish was nice but lacked a little taste for me. There was a mix up with my order but they were really apologetic and service made up for it. I would go back just for the chips!

Max's Sandwich Shop

Tollington, Islington
20/09/2020: Banjo's was the best breakfast sandwich I have had . And the service and staff were brilliant too. Heartily recommend

Clerkenwell, Islington
02/10/2020: I am always nervous when I have to go to a new place as I have a severe nut allergy. However it wasn’t an issue at all here! Staff were very helpful and accommodating, and didn’t make me feel like I was being a pain at all.... which is usually what happens! 10/10 thank you so much, and the food was fantastic too, such great flavours! Will definitely be back!
12/08/2020: We had 2 mains, 2 starters and 3 juices... bill came to £88.50... we’re local and this place truly used to be lovely- good atmosphere, great flavours, reasonable prices for what you were getting and great staff. Not anymore... The ‘schnitzel’ main (£19) was a lone, dried out piece of meat with no sides at all. The ‘bulgar salad’ (£14) was dried and small with browning avocado and questionable brown sauce poured all over it. The starters passed just about with an average croquette being the overall winner of a sad bunch. When we were handed the £44.25 (gov half price scheme) bill we figured they must of forgotten to half it. Not so. They had halved it and the shocking meal would have run in at nearly £100, £44 being unbelievable enough. We genuinely walked away in disbelief. Tip, Exmouth Market is full of incredible restaurants, avoid this stagnant chain, mascaraing as a good eatery and try one of the many cool independents -see you there!

The Green

Clerkenwell, Islington, >100£
28/07/2020: A good welcome and a lovely place for a well organised drink during these tricky covid times. Good tables in the sun and not crowded.

Three Compasses

Clerkenwell, Islington, <20£
17/09/2020: Stopped by to meet a friend and decided to have a bite to eat, which was a great decision! I had the hickory burger, which had a large, very high quality patty. The chips were great and even the side salad garnish was good. The other half had a pizza , which was thin crust and with an excellent taste. The drinks were very reasonably priced for central London, for example, £12 for a bottle of house wine - thats cheaper than all of my locals outside of London! The bar has a large area, so suitable for meeting up with friends. I didn't visit the restaurant upstairs, but im sure it will be of the same high quality as the bar menu, so I will definitely visit it at a later date. Oh - and the bar staff are great - very pleasant and attentive. Thanks for a lovely afternoon!
25/07/2020: Absolutely banging burger and gin (and jäger) but maybe have some cucumber for the Hendricks next time. Still 5/5

Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings

Clerkenwell, Islington
19/09/2020: Attended with 2 friends and have to say the setting is special. Really lovely environment. Ordered the English breakfast: Bacon was so overcooked I couldn’t even bite into it Eggs were cold Tomato looked like it had been sat on the side I sent it back and they returned my same plate of food as I had already had a bite of the sausage. Unfortunately the food just doesn’t match the setting. Waitress was very smiley and prompt with the fizz though!
09/09/2020: Terrible experience. Let's begin with the price which was over the top and the disappointing food that does not justify it. The service was very rude and completely ruined the morning. Unfortunately, we have also found hair in the dishes we ordered.

Acoustic Cafe Brasserie

Mildmay, Islington
27/08/2020: Had a superb selection of starters and mezzas last Wednesday night in August, with a wonderful discount as well. The attention to distancing, masks when needed, sanitisers, etc. is very reassuring as is the superb freshness of the food...whether vegetables, seafood, lamb or luscious fruit, cheeses and desserts Plus cocktails, wine and premier coffee and teas. We've been going there for years, and it keeps getting better and better...always a different, original menu, whether for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. But perhaps what's most enjoyable is the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. They are there when needed, attentive but not intruding. Great to see, too, the variety of visitors, some of whom you may recognise from the media. Thanks Adil!
31/07/2020: Had a lovely Brunch today,I had the English breakfast, cooked to perfection and the poached Burford brown eggs were delicious. My friend had Borek also packed with flavour with a wonderful yoghurt dressing (so good I ordered a take out for later). Service was great and staff very friendly, I was impressed that they had hand sanitiser on every table and the waiters/waitresses all wore masks. Thank you Acoustic.
