Donna and her team make the best poached eggs on toast in town. The coffee is delicious, with hot milk, and you’re offered a top-up just at the right time. Best of all is the atmosphere, with cherry music playing, the friendly chat and listening ear, and being looked after by lovely, genuine people. Donna is moving on to focus on her catering business ‘Newman’s’ (on Facebook) I wish her luck. She and her team made this the best cafe in town, and made a real difference to Maldon.

Really comfortable place with amazing service! Hot chocolate is to die for, also have a great selection of cakes. Have expanded the seating areas and can sit outside. Delicious and wide range of food

Looked inviting from the outside so decided to give this establishment a try. Spotless interior , big menu with many tempting options. Our coffee was spot on , just how we like it "proper coffee." Wifey had bacon, brie and cranberry panini which she said was delicious. Myself chicken , bacon and pesto sandwich with granary bread. Thick slices of gorgeous bread with a well packed filling , it was very satisfying. Very good service and highly recommend.

Best coffee that we found in most of our trip around the UK! Beans available to buy, lots of different types of milk, and delicious, rich hot chocolate.

Sadly our experience wasn’t great. We had been in the summer and had a good meal. This time we had a table for 9, as a get together the day before my mother-in-law’s funeral.We had a restricted menu and had to send it in before hand. Most of our party had a roast. Loads of meat which was so hard to cut that virtually everyone left, and most their overcooked Yorkshires. We could have had more vegetables. My son had a burger which he left most of. The chips were overcooked, the bun soggy. The patty fell apart. Some of us had cheesecake for dessert, and had no idea what flavour it was although there was a powder ginger taste to it. My mother and I order a decaf tea. This turned up in a big teapot with one teabag in. Being insipid we asked for another bag. But they’d run out! The young girl that served us was very pleasant. Even though we complained the manager did not visit our table to apologise. Never going there again.

Outstanding liver and bacon was cooked to perfection daughter hoovered up all the mac and cheese and she is fussy so well done cheap but excellent food totally recommended

I always do click and collect here in the mornings when I’m working in Maldon, usually 2 or 3 days a week. The ladies are always so friendly (even though I sometimes have a big order from all my colleagues!) and nothing is too much trouble.

Called in for breakfast this morning good food and service. Went in today just the two of us order breakfast at the bar, collected our drinks and within five minutes food arrived, all hot and fresh so very good for a spoons. Waitress came over to check everything was okay which it was, nothing else to say really good breakfast at a good price in a nice clean and friendly pub.

I can’t rate this place enough not only for their seasonal meals but their roast dinners are simply AMAZING! I went with my family and we shared a Sunday roast platter, it was delicious, plenty of food and great variety (3 different meats, roast veg and steamed veg, red cabbage, stuffing, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire’s and the cauliflower cheese was so delicious and cheesy). The variety of veg was great and none of the veg was limp nor felt microwaved, the vegetables still maintained their vibrate colours and crunch. The gravy had a really depth to it and I asked the waitress and they said it was home made by the chefs, the quality of the gravy finished off the meal. It’s such a beautiful pub near the quay, has a real cosy feel to it along with a great ambiance. The staff are always helpful and tentative without being overbearing. Great drink selection, and definitely one of the best places to eat for food quality and value for money. I can’t recommend this quant pub enough. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from us.

First visit since this restaurant changed from being a Wimpy to now being called The Diner, I believe it’s the same people running it but a vast improvement now. A great choice on the menu and the food is 100% better than it was before. I had the half pounder and chips and my wife had gammon egg and chips, both were well presented and tasted lovely. She managed to fit in sticky toffee pudding and custard which looked lovely and she said it tasted great. There is a good selection on offer here at very reasonable prices, well worth a visit.
